Each day of the week it seems like they do some sort of special. We went on a Friday which meant 1/2 off cocktails! Atmosphere/service: very sophisticated, and more fancy than I thought it would be. But not to the point where you can’t wear jeans. The service was great, they checked on us for refills of our water and drinks and cleared away empty plates. Food/price: 4/5 The food was overall, great. Our table shared some appetizers including the calamari, the hummus with pita, and the flaming cheese (called something else on the menu). – calamari: so crispy and light. Comes with a white and red sauce that you can dip it in that compliments the dish really well. I love calamari so this is always something I order and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint! – hummus dip: comes with 3 different types of hummus (red bell pepper, bean or olive (?), and just regular chickpea), some sautéed onions, and black olives. Bell pepper is actually the one vegetable I don’t eat so I can’t speak highly of the red hummus but everyone at the table loved it. The hummus is creamy and the pita bread is wonderfully toasted. – flaming cheese: my least favorite. Besides being an aesthetically awesome appetizer because they literally do light it on fire. The cheese tasted so much like gasoline/alcohol that I couldn’t bear it. Entree: I had the salmon with couscous and asparagus. Amazing. The couscous was the winner here. It really soaked up the flavors of the butter and whatever stock they used to cook it in. I could eat a whole bowl of it. The salmon was well cooked, not dry or anything. As for the drinks, I had the berry Mojito and the onassi. the onassi was my favorite. If you like elderflower then pick this!

Crazy Pita Rotisserie & Grill – Menu with Prices – 2225 Village Walk Dr, Henderson

The one thing one notices in my reviews is that there’s very few cuisines that I wouldn’t eat; Mediterranean and Greek food is among one of my personal favorite cuisines just because of how flavorful and light their offerings tend to be. Many of the restaurants on my favorites list, however, often require me to be there for at least an hour or more, and I don’t have the time to be staying there for that long ( unless it’s the weekend or immediately after work, of course ). This is why I love Crazy Pita — it’s a fairly casual Mediterranean restaurant where I can get delicious food and don’t feel bad about either staying there too long or eating too much, because of how many healthy options there are! While there’s a few of them in town — I know that there’s another location at Town Square, for example — the District’s Crazy Pita is typically my go-to for a quick Mediterranean fix, especially since it’s so close to my house. This is also where I’m usually able to find one of their special dishes — and my personal favorite item on their menu, the lamb shank! If it’s on the specials board, GET IT and thank me later. It’s so tender and flavorful, and it just falls off the bone. I like to mix it together with the couscous to form something of a lamb plate, and that with the light cucumber salad, warm pita bread and hummus make for an amazing meal. The baklava also makes a great dessert as well — it’s not overly sweet like other desserts, and yet still so good. There are many other places in town that serve better Mediterranean food, I will admit as much. However, sometimes you just want something more simple, inexpensive, and overall, just go somewhere you feel like you can just relax after a long day. With their great food and stellar customer service, Crazy Pita is just the kind of place I’d go. One of my favorite places in the District to go to — and if you check it out, maybe it’ll be yours, too!

Chicago Style Gyro – Menu with Prices – 539 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids

Just ate here for the first time and we were impressed with the food and the staff. We had the Chicago gyro and pita with hummus. The pita was warm and the hummus was delicious but the gyro was awesome! We had it “traditional” with tzatziki, cucumber, tomato, feta, lettuce, bell peppers, and onion. We were surprised that the side was French fries but after tasting them it was clear as day, they were great fries, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Try them with ketchup! Then the piece de resistance, baklava, light and fluffy crust, not too sweet, nutty… perfect. Worth the buck and a quarter a slice. They don’t make it there but its “imported from Detroit” (wink). The staff was friendly and explained the traditional menu and the American side too. The cafe itself was nothing fancy but who cares when the food is so good? Then there is the price, I’d like to say it was cheap but…oh yeah it was cheap! So what are you waiting for, an invitation?? Do it! Keep local cafe’s like this one in business for years to enjoy! Thanks!

Panini Kabob Grill – Santa Monica – Menu with Prices – 312 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica

My new fave restaurant! Lately, Mediterranean is my choice so I’ve been going to Crimson a lot. But when I noticed this place, I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve now been here twice in the same week, & I’m eyeing all the other locations! This location has a large outside covered patio, & an even bigger inside seating area. Even with the big groups (at least 10 or more) I’ve seen dining here both times, seating has been readily available – and service has been SUPER warm, friendly, & efficient. The FOOD is SO GOOD. Healthy, fresh, delicious without relying on excess salt or sauces, filled with colorful veggies. I’ve gotten the shish kebab plates and the portions are so big, it’s easily 2, up to 3 (smaller) meals. The chicken shish kebab is juicy !& well seasoned – the salmon is perfectly cooked so it’s not dry. Chunks of charred ripe tomato & bell pepper slices are perfectly cooked. They serve it all off the skewer, so no struggling with your food. The salad I choose is the Mediterranean Greek, which are field greens, cucumber chunks, red onion, cheese crumbles, and Greek olives with a light dressing. But for a couple extra dollars, the Date Salad (ripe strawberries, blackberries, dried cranberries, lightly candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese crumbles & date chunks on field greens w/a light vinaigrette) is super good too. I’ve had the Falafel Appetizer plate, which was very good – hot & crispy falafel balls, hummus, tsatziki & pita. What that taught me was that their falafel & hummus are good but their tsatziki & pita are OUTSTANDING. The tsatziki has shredded (not diced) cucumber in the yogurt with fresh parsley & mint – which texturally & taste-wise really makes all the difference imo. And! One of my biggest pet peeves is getting that hard, dry, mass-produced flat pita bread that’s cardboardy. Well not here. Their pita is served warm, puffy, & soft, with fresh grill marks. If it’s not fresh baked here, it’s got to be delivered SUPER FRESH. I’ve also had their chicken veggie soup, which is brothy, tomatoey, & flavorful chunky with chicken & veggies. They have shaker jars of sumac on the tables to season your food, and pressed paninis, caprese salad & tiramisu on the menu, as well as breakfast items like avocado toast & eggs. I love that there’s a Mediterranean/Greek/Persian/Israeli/Italian mashup going on here. It all makes sense, & clearly with the busy-ness in the restaurant, I’m not the only one loving it. I could literally eat here every day!!

Ocean Hunter Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 114-38 Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica

Finally made it to Ocean Hunter and it was sooooooo worth it! I was purchasing dinner for a small family celebration. Feeding 7 ppl with different requests could’ve been a total nightmare but thanks to the staff…it was a breeze! I ordered steamed salmon w/ corn, coconut shrimp, fried whiting, calamari, scallops, rice, salad and sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious but that calamari…was PERFECT!!! I usually only eat a few calamari when dining out because it’s either poorly seasoned or rubbery. This was NOT the case at OH!! While driving home…I ate so many that I had to stop myself. The the crunchy batter and lemon pepper flavor was so spot on…and not one had that rubbery consistency. My family enjoyed everything and my younger nephews now like calamari too! We will be regulars at OH!

Tahaza Hummus Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1 Canal Park, Cambridge

After originally giving this Kitchen a 2-star rating, the managers politely asked that I try the hummus kitchen again. Overall, I had a much more enjoyable and tasty experience this time around. The hummus is smooth, creamy, and tangy (especially the seasonal caramelized onion), and I loved the toppings/protein that topped my bowl. On my last visit, the hummus, toppings, and pita felt like it had all been sitting out for a while and the staff was a rude. Yet this time around, the staff was friendly, the hummus was tasty, but…the pita still was not too good. I asked for the wheat pita and part of the bottom was stale and it felt as if I was eating a piece of wheat bread from a store bought loaf. Yet–just come to Tahaza and get the hummus bowl or salad and you’ll be fine! Looking forward to trying the salad. Interior is clean, and entire space is quite airy.

The Arabesque Lounge – Menu with Prices – 101 Montelago Blvd, Henderson

The first thing we wanted to do after checking into our room was to get a drink, relax and just do some nothing. The décor of the lounge is really cool. It just says “come sit and relax”. There is a grand piano but there was no live entertainment when we were there at 4pm. From the very tall vaulted ceilings to the amazing view of the lake, this lounge is just gorgeous. The menu is nice and light. Nothing too heavy, just some fun to food to nosh on. The one stand out of this place is a server I believe her name is Jan. She was very friendly and personable. We asked her if we could have drinks outside on the patio and she said it would be no problem. We ordered the Mediterranean plate which had stuffed olives, garlicky pita bread, baba ganoush and hummus. My GF is gluten free so we asked for some carrot and celery sticks and Jan gladly brought them. The olives were delicious. Nice and briny but not overpowering. The pita had the perfect amount of garlic, I could have eaten more if they put it out. The drinks we ordered were great too, (not because they were complimentary) The mango drink was our favorite though. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

Asian Express – Menu with Prices – 4880 Lower Roswell Rd #110, Marietta

This is an addendum to my earlier review (below). I have been back numerous times now, and the service has been outstanding each time, and the food has only gotten better. The egg rolls have improved, with the restaurant now making larger ones for the same price. They are also well-filled now. This is a great example of the owner taking constructive criticism and improving their products. There is no meal that we fail to order these treasures. Ask for the house-made spicy mustard, and mix it with a generous amount of soy sauce, for a nice dipping sauce. I have had the General Tso’s chicken again (as part of the Phoenix and Dragon, whose Phoenix component – spicy shrimp – was dreadful, I’m sad to say). This time the chicken was crispier, and the broccoli green and not over-cooked. So, I’d get the General’s chicken by itself again. We have now tried both the Salt & Pepper Shrimp, and the Salt & Pepper Calamari several times. Both dishes are phenomenal, with the shrimp edging out the calamari because the calamari is a bit over-battered. The flavor is fantastic, with the chilies, onions, and bell pepper slices adding some interest. The shrimp themselves are large, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside – cooked perfectly. This is my wife’s favorite dish, and I share her enthusiasm. The Singapore Mei Fun (rice noodles, sauteed with shrimp, roast pork, chicken, onions, eggs and other veggies, with a curry flavor) is great too. The plain fried chicken wings are crispy and juicy and super-flavorful from the garlic-soy marinade they were in before frying. They are some of the best I’ve had. See my previous notes about the lo mein, spare ribs and moo-shu pork.

Forty Thieves – Menu with Prices – 1538 Race St, Cincinnati

The food is great. Period. No issues with the food. I went here for the 4th time this past Saturday. I am leaving a 2/5 because of the service and rules that are very obscure and absurd. My friend’s girlfriend ordered some soup and she wanted a side of hummus. At first a guy helped us. He went on some rant about not being able to give people a side of hummus. He stated, “If I allow one person to order a side of hummus, then everyone will want a side of hummus and that’s just not something we do here.” After asking nicely again and stating she would pay for it, he caved and gave her a side of hummus. For yelpers reading this, just keep asking and maybe they will break corporate code as a gesture of goodwill and give you a small side of hummus. In previous visits, I have been able to order a Falafel Pita with the vegetables on the side. Never had an issue with this. Just don’t put the vegetables in the pita, pretty simple. No one quipped or said that wasn’t allowed. I tried the same thing in this visit. The guy who took my friend’s order went away and a woman came to the counter to take my order. After asking for the same thing I have done in the three previous visits, she replied, “Oh well that’s basically ordering a deconstructed sandwich, which we aren’t allowed to do. You will have to get the Falafel over hummus menu item which is $10.” You kidding me? I didn’t want the hummus as I am not a big fan of hummus in general. Instead of arguing, I just took it. Again good food, really stupid policies.

West Hills Flats & Taps – Menu with Prices – 7403 Kingston Pike, Knoxville

My wife and I only live a couple of miles from this great place. Very laid back atmosphere with very friendly crew. Was greeted immediately and taken right to our table, was asked if we had a preference to sit inside or out on the deck. They are dog friendly so if you have yours with you you able to eat outside with them.We started with the Black bean hummus as an appetizer, and it was really good. It comes with either pita bread or celery on request. The pita bread was warm and soft and the hummus was seasoned perfectly. It was maybe 10 minutes after our starter was served to us when our pizzas came out. My wife got the FORMAGGIO & HERB and I got the CRAZY CAJUN. Keep in mind that this is a flat bread pizza and serves one possibly 2 people if your eating light. Both were really fantastic. The seasonings, the crust everything was just plain delicious. The staff was right on top of things and when our waitress was busy with another table, a different server brought us our food. My daughter was at home and asked for the JALAPENO POPPER to go, we placed the order as we were getting some to go boxes, and again in just a few minutes fresh and hot boxed and ready to go. Although I had a soft drink this visit, I looked over there beer list and will be having a cold one some other visit, and yes both my wife and I are coming back to this little gem.

Shish Kabobs and Gyros – Menu with Prices – 9619 N Hayden Rd #106, Scottsdale

Stopped in here for a quick dinner and left really impressed! Seems like a Vietnamese family runs this spot with a combination of Mediterranean and Vietnamese food. Ordered the gyro plate with rice and it also came with hummus, pita and a side salad. The gyro meat was perfection, tender and full of flavor. The hummus had a slight kick to it which I love and of course, warm pita bread to go with it. Good food at a reasonable price. Will definitely be back again!

YALLA HUMMUS Menu with Prices 3458 E Orangethorpe Ave, Anaheim

There is no hummus that compares to Yalla Hummus!!!My entire family loves it and I can never stock up enough. I first came across them at a farmers market and was instantly hooked. Today I decided it was time to visit the store and by golly I’m so glad I did. The pita bread is so delicious and soft. It almost melts in your mouth. My kids ate nearly half a bag on our drive back home! As for the hummus and the dips…there is no bad choice. I love the original but i love the black bean chipotle just as much. Cilantro jalapeño, spicy, garlic and chives, spinach and feta, I love all of the flavors and can’t pick a favorite. The cucumber salad is a great side with just about any meal or you can eat it by itself. I encourage everyone to try this hummus. Even if you’ve never tried hummus or aren’t much of a fan, you’ll love it. I will definitely be back to the store and to the farmers market. Also, aside from the amazing products that can pretty much sell themselves, the customer service is excellent! Everyone is always so polite and pleasant. Haz is the best! He looks out for his customers and stands behind his products. I can go on for hours about how awesome Yalla Hummus is but I recommend you find out on your own. Time to eat some hummus

Pita Grill & Market – Menu with Prices – 13854 SW 88th St, Miami

I’ll cut to the chase here, I’m giving Pita Grill 3 stars for a few reasons, but the biggest being customer service, or should I say lack of. When we walked in, no one said a word to us. They saw us, and said NOTHING. Being that it was our first time here, we didn’t know how it worked. I asked if we order here or sit down, he told us to sit. (No hello, how are you, welcome, nothing!) We sit down and are handed menus. Ten minutes go by, no one greets us, yet several workers passed us by. Finally, the gentleman that sat us asked if someone has been over, which we reply no. Side note, there were only 2 tables in the restaurant, so not busy at all! He sends over a server and she only speaks Spanish, which neither I or my girlfriend speak. Okay, not a problem, she’ll understand me. I order a small hummus appetizer, and 2, TWO, falafel wraps. The hummus came out with pita bread. In my opinion the hummus was good and the bread was alright, nothing spectacular. However, my girlfriend was pissed claiming, “who serves paper with hummus.” (She said it was important that I mention that as she is a pita bread connoisseur lol) she felt that the pita bread was extremely thin and tasted like cardboard. Almost ready to get up and leave due to the completely aloof staff and mediocre food, the falafel wrap comes out. A falafel wrap, one falafel wrap. Even if you don’t speak English very well, I’m certain that saying two and holding up two fingers is universal! Oh well, it was better that way since my girlfriend hated the pita. We cut the wrap in half and split it. I will say that their falafel was delicious, but I would not drive 12 miles again for this. Our server literally never came back to the table to check if everything was alright, if we needed drinks, etc. after waiting and waiting, I finally get up to ask for a box for the leftover hummus and the check. She gives me the box, no check. I realize I have to go to the front to pay. As I’m paying, which again awful customer service, I notice baklava and decide to order two pieces Togo. They are really small pieces and I’m not sure how much it costs. My total was $17 including tip, so couldn’t be too expensive. I will say the baklava was the best part of this experience. Overall, I was completely disappointed with the service and as I said the food is okay, nothing that I would crave and have to come back for! I didn’t even really take pictures because I was pretty frustrated. Sadly, not an enjoyable visit, and definitely not a good first impression.
