Inside the AA Asian supermarket. They have another location not to far away in a swap meet down a couple of miles. Tacos – al pastor was alright and the cecina was just pretty much the same as carne asada. Quesadilla Huitlacoche – this was the yummy unique item here. It’s a mushroom corn type type of quesadilla that tasted like fungus corn, but in a good way lol. They had 4 different kind of frescas- cantaloupe, cucumber, Jamaica, and horchata. The horchata was alright. The tortillas seems to be possibly homemade.

Taqueria 2 Potrillos – Menu with Prices – 515 E 6th St, Corona

For taco lovers!! This place is my new best spot. Everything has been oh sooo good here! I Love this place! Wow! OK here’s the breakdown… Tacos- OMG FRESH handmade tortillas! Juicy meat! That is the base for an excellent taco. They have every kind of meat here and tripas, buche, adobada (pastor), are on point (my favs)! All the meats are delicious (I tried all of them)! Queso Fundido- yessssss….I use it to add to my tacos lol, but they also serve fresh tortillas with this entrée. The chorizo is really good on top. Burritos- you can add cheese and ask for it to be melted, and they throw a pile on the flat top grill, melt it, and put it in your burrito…again…ohh myy gawd! Sides- they have all the typical sides here PLUS the delicious grilled green onion and jalapenos. Thank you so much because I looove these! Salsa Bar- first of all…Guacatillo…then…two red salsas, and 1 green salsa all very tasty. There are also toppings for your food like onion, cilantro, lemon, carrots, radishes, etc. Agua Frescas- Guys, these have been hands down the best agua frescas I have tasted anywhere. The Jamaica…a thing of beauty. The horchata…creamy goodness I have never tasted a better one! The pina and sandia both excellent. I need to go back to try all the rest. This is so good I had to give it five stars. The area and ambiance isn’t bad either. I really appreciate this place!

Salazar’s Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1368 Atlanta Rd SE, Marietta

Ever have your heart set on a place you’ve been thinking about for over a week, finally get to go eat there only to find out they are closed? I love Asian food and wanted to give Hoang Long Oriental Food Market because several friends have now told me they are probably the best PHO in town. To my surprise, my buddy Danny was there to greet me when I arrived (thanks Calendar!!) and we immediately asked ourselves “well…. where to now?” To our surprise, Our good friend Jesus who owns a car repair shop in the area stopped by to say hello (thanks calendar!!) and when he noticed they were closed, said “alright, let’s go get tacos!!”. We had our other friend Gustavo get there just in time to go check out these tacos (Calendar… thank you!!). Bakery Salazar… apparently this used to just be a Latino bakery that started selling tacos along with some other side items and when they got so popular, they decided to buy the suite next door, they expanded and have been a bakery/taco business now for about 3 months. The location is clean and spacious inside, you immediately get the smell of the bakery which is awesome. Their menu offers your typical Mexican menu of items like tacos, quesadilla, burritos, gorditas, sopes as well as bottled/canned sodas or aguas frescas (free refills!!), aguas frescas are Mexican juices. I ordered a taco plate which comes with 3 tacos, rice and beans. The chicken taco was good but the barbacoa tacos have a lot more taste, add the salsa verde to your tacos and it makes for a great meal. The refried beans are a nice compliment along with the tacos with the cheese adding an awesome melty texture and the rice was tasty and well done. I ordered a steak gordita because Jesus said they were good and I wanted to try one, and I order a quesataco because I was curious…. I assumed it was a taco with cheese? The gordita was awesome and filled with steak but I’ll get chicken or barbacoa next time since the steak is on the cheaper side. The quesataco (pictured above) is basically two taco tortillas slapped together with cheese and steak in between…. so kind of like a quesadilla looking meal but that tasted more like a taco? either way, it was unexpected and awesome. We all enjoyed our meal and thanked Jesus for saving the day!! If you find yourself in the Marietta area and on a budget because of LIFE or because you have your kids with you, Salazar Bakery should be on your maps to go to!! Check them out and let me know what you think.  EDIT: We got free churros!!!  Roli’s Rating: 1. Service: 8/10, Service was friendly and patient as we stood over the counter taking our sweet time deciding what to order. Although this is an order over the counter area and they bring your food (no waiter/waitress), the lady behind the counter would kindly come over from time to time and asked if we needed any refills of their aguas frescas 2. Price: 10/10, I don’t remember the last time I went to a place to eat where I got so much food for my $$. I ordered 3 tacos with rice and beans, a gordita, a quesataco (which ended up being more than expected) with an horchata to drink…. all for $12…. you can safely come in here and eat a meal with a drink for $5. I think the most expensive item I saw on their menu were their sandwiches and burritos which will cost you $7 3. Location and Parking: 6/10, Parking here won’t be an issue but the location is out of the way in Marietta, so a drive will be necessary 4. Cleanliness: 9/10, The location was very clean 5. Health Rating: A (100) 6. Roli Overall Rating: 6/10,  Good food if you’re in the area   **Roli’s Recommendations** BARBACOA TACOS, GORDITAS, QUESATACO

Tía Lety Tamaleria Y Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 9629 Evergreen Way, Everett

I really like their chicharron tacos! Everything else could use a lot of seasoning. I’ve noticed that they do not season the meat at all. I’ve frequented this place several times, at different times of the day. During lunchtime, they make fresh tortillas that are very tasty. The sodas are too expensive for. They charge 2.99 for a bottle of soda and a small cup of Horchata and Jamaica. Taco Tuesday is great. They offer 99 cent tacos.

Jay’s Mexican Grill Menu with Prices 1545 McFarland Pkwy, Alpharetta

Gourmet Deli 65 – Menu with Prices – 6540 Woodside Ave, Flushing

It’s a small deli but they have awesome Mexican food! Tortas, tamales, elotes, quesadillas, tacos just to name a few and homemade horchata, Jamaica and lemonade. Their breakfast & regular sandwiches are just as good too. It’s right next to papas kitchen. It has seats outside if you wanna just chill for a little & enjoy the summer weather. I recommend it! You won’t be disappointed :).

Jesse’s Tortilla Factory – Menu with Prices – 1226 Webster Ave, Waco

As you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a very strong corn scent. They process all of their own corn here, and they make their tortillas right in front of you. The employees are all very friendly and were all smiles while serving us. You can get hot tamales on most days, but sometimes they’re sold out so it’s better to call ahead of time if you’re going specifically for tamales. Note that you’ll have to eat them at home or in the car, there’s no seating as this is not a restaurant. Their corn tortillas are the best I’ve ever had. They sell flour tortillas, corn chips, guacamole, and queso as well as their tortillas and corn tamales. If you’re feeling creative, they also sell husks and masa so you can make your own tamales at home. They DO take credit cards, this place isn’t cash only. Totally worth the stop if you’re in the neighborhood.

Yoli’s Mexican Grill – Menu with Prices – 3225 Market Street Ste 102, Riverside

With the long expected but longer to develop changes to downtown, this new eatery is slightly off the beaten path (at least until the nearby 4-story apartment complex is finished. However, it features off-street parking in back and a way to cool off with a cold drink or a plate of delicious food. I ate here two days in a row and was able to try a few varieties of their cuisine, which I will discuss briefly. The first time was mid afternoon, after any presumed lunch rush, and I was greeted immediately and quickly figured out the basic steps on the menu board. Just so you know, it reads right-to-left. A plate with Mexican rice (white rice is also available) and refried beans sounded like good accompaniments for the barbacao. I also selected corn tortillas. At the salsa bar I grabbed hot and salsa verde to sample and some limes. Just to expand the survey I purchased a small cantaloupe agua fresca because I love that stuff! Flavors: The barbacao was moist and rich in flavor, and I felt it was similar to the Cuban specialty, ropas viejas because both are long-cooked and mouthwatering dishes. I really liked the rice and beans too. The salsas were both excellent and the hot one is good to avoid getting into your eye! The only disappointment was the average stor8e-bought corn tortillas that managed to get dried out on the edges during the heating process. B+ Next day I changed it up to slow-cooked pork and black beans. The flour tortillas were much better and will remain my choice for future visits. They tasted fresh, although neither type is made in-house. I’ll definitely stop back to eat and try a burrito or something. The atmosphere is pleasant and perfect for solo dashes or hanging out with a group of friends.

The Alleyway Grille Menu with Prices 2477 Arctic Blvd, Anchorage

Remember steak night at Koots? It was one of the only reasons I ventured into that bar. Well, these are the folks that were slingin’ the steak! They now have their own spot in the space formerly occupied by Arctic Roadrunner. First of all, I LOVE the hours! 10am to 5am. That is NOT a typo. It’s so rare to get hot food (that’s not Taco Bell or Leroy’s) in this town past 10pm…let alone all the way until 5am! I came right when they opened, at 10am. I was the only person in here. Service was friendly. I got the veggie skillet which had a welcomed, generous, portion of Brussels Sprouts. The “hash” part of the skillet was straight-up french fries! It came with a cup of cantaloupe. I usually don’t have nice things to say about cantaloupe or it’s green cousin honeydew…especially with regard to fruit salads but…this was probably the best cantaloupe I’ve had in the states! (Warning: about to sound like a braggy prick) The only cantaloupe I’ve had better than this was in Italy. But, all the cantaloupe there is incredible. (it’s technically a different kind of fruit that what we have, it’s way, way sweeter) Coffee was hot and from Uncle Leroy’s, my favorite coffeeshop in town. Definitely give them a shot!

Tia Chepa Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10915 E 31st St #15B, Tulsa

Man oh man! This is some truly authentic Mexican food. A lot of very, *VERY* difficult to find food here, things you would expect to see in Oaxaca, Mexico City, or Puebla. Fresh made quesadillas, made with fresh homemade corn tortillas, with your choice of fillings such as nopales(cactus paddles), flor de calabaza(squash blossom), roasted poblano, homemade chicharrón con carne(rendered pork rind with the meat), chorizo, huitlacoche(corn mushrooms, aka corn smut), and so on… Oh yeah, and they have the normal stuff like asada too, for the timid ones.

Veggie Del Sol – Menu with Prices – 536 E 12th St, Brownsville

FINALLY a vegan friendly place in Brownsville. My only complaint, was that it was a little warm inside but the staff was QUICK to accommodate us and made sure we were comfortable and cooled down. Once you come in off the hot downtown street and into a refreshing homemade agua fresca LIFE IS GOOOOD. I, personally, love agua de Jamaica; and couldn’t decide between the piña agua fresca or Jamaica. So, I got both! And guess what, $2 agua frescas and refills are FREEEEE. Seriously, this place is great with prices already. I ordered a burrito; green burrito (??) I think it was called. It was a spinach tortilla containing refried black beans, tofu, spinach, and edamame, came out nice and toasty. I’m really picky about vegan cheese because this brand “Daiya” tastes like feet — in my opinion– So I was happy when I asked about their type of cheese and it being coconut milk based; if I’m not mistaken, anything dairy related here (ranch, cheese) was coconut milk based. We also ordered the cauliflower buffalo wings, so good (this is where I tasted the ranch) the portions of each meal were good for the price they were. My meal alone was under $25.00 and I ordered a drink, an appetizer, and an entree. My friend ordered the nachos (these are for at least 2-3 people or 1 really hungry nacho loving person), I would say they’re more like panchos with the beans, avocado, cheese, and crumble (faux meat). SO DELICIOUS. I’m so glad that everything was up to par with what I expected. It’s so nice to have an option for people that are lactose intolerant/vegan. I will definitely be going back the next time I come home to visit. I’m already dreaming of that piña agua fresca.

Taqueria El Mexicano – Menu with Prices – 1717 Oakdale Rd D, Modesto

So delicious!! I just moved to Modesto and I was searching for a Mexican food restaurant near my house. I had driven past this place a few times on my way to Big Lots so I figured I’d give it a try and WOW am I glad I did!! I’m Mexican myself and my family own a Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area so I have pretty high expectations for Mexican good restaurants. I wanted to try a little of everything so I got a carnitas taco, a carne Assad quesadilla, a side of whole beans for my toddler, and I tried their flan. The Carnitas Taco: so yummy!! The taco had a LOT of meat so I split it up onto both of my tortillas and added some salsa. The carnitas has such an incredible flavor and were not dry at all. The tortillas were made of the dark yellow corn which is not my preference as I prefer the white tortillas but these definitely gave a different flavor that I actually enjoyed. The quesadilla: so good! Typically they are folded in half down the middle but here they fold the sides of the tortilla in and then it’s cut into 3 pieces; 2 edges and then the middle section. The edges were easy to eat but the middle section was a little difficult to maneuver without all the contents falling out and your fingers getting food and sauce all over them. I’d definitely get this again though! The whole beans were so good and the broth was so authentic and flavorful. I ate the flan later in the day and it was delicious and homemade and not too drenched in the caramel sauce. Lastly, this restaurant has a really nice salsa bar where you can help yourself to about 4 or 5 different salsas, limes, radish, pickled jalapeños, and grilled onions with grilled jalapeños.

Taco El Paisa – Menu with Prices – 1649 Elvan Ave, Columbus

On the outside, Tacos El Paisa has the rugged, authentic and hole in the wall type look. After all, it is a truck/shack tucked on a busy road. Small place suited with outdoor seating, if the weather chooses not to participates with your meal no worries there is an overhead shed type roof to keep your head and food dry! Mainly people whom venture towards stops like these either have experienced the cuisine before or are willing and eager to try new places. As far as best Mexican food in town its up for debate but its a contender for sure. The usual options on the menu as you would find on any other choices. Ordered Tacos and a Torta. For the tacos, I got carne asada and Al pastor for the meat and got the carne asada for the torta with a Horchata for my beverage. Street tacos are generally known for their doubled corn tortillas with meat, diced white onions, chopped cilantro, and your choice of salsa over the tacos. At this place, they provide a serve yourself type of topping station. These tortillas seemed heated by way of fryer and sort of left the tortillas a little tough on the bite, not a big deal. Carne Asada is the staple of street taco cuisine and the most common choice, to me it did the job of satisfying the craving but was definitely mass produced and didn’t have that certain type of effort i usually get from street tacos. The Al pastor on the other hand was great, The torta was good as well considering coming off of sub par, good for the town type of tacos. Places seem to forget that the street taco/ street spanish cuisine is somewhat comparable towards the “philly cheesesteak” on how its a working person’s type of food and its usually cooked by a person from the same type of energy. In Summary, It is good for what its worth, prices are fair and the food does the job but wouldn’t impress the experienced and in the know.
