There are experiences at restaurants you just don’t forget: The short – high prices that are not backed up by the food, quality, ambiance, or service. 1. The location is in a strip mall however in this particular strip mall there are some real gems. High Tide is some of the best seafood in town. Side note – high tide was packed ( about 3 times the size too) La Calabria was maybe half full. You know when you go to the movies and you walk in on opening weekend and the packed movies are usually the winners whereas the empty ones are usually flops- should turned around right then and there. 2. Inside La Calabria is the first negative. The decorating just doesn’t match the prices. There is a large disconnect. It reminds you of something out of the show kitchen nightmares. Before the makeover. 3. The dining experience – here is where things really go down hill… The water glasses are plastic – this would be okay if they weren’t charging close to 20+ dollars a dish. They served red wine in white wine glasses. They serve white wine in them too so there is that. The wine glasses were actual glass. Still at this point they can save themselves. The bread – not warm, cold in fact and stale!! Stale bread!!! The appetizer – it was the special. It sounded very good. Fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and a balsamic glaze. What we got was triangular fried mozzarella sticks with red sauce. Embarrassing. The salad- well it was a house salad, we could have went with a Caesar but there was a up-charge for that. Everything had a up-charge. It was a little ridiculous. The salad came from a bag – you know the ones at the grocery store. The main corse. – the risotto was not bad however the mushrooms used were the cheap button mushrooms you get at the grocery store. Wife had a chicken dish. She wanted vodka sauce instead of Mariana. Did I mention there was an up charge for that. It was actually pretty good sauce so I won’t beat them up too much. The cardinal sin was the frozen broccoli. For a dish costing 20+ frozen broccoli is unacceptable. Desert – they had an expresso machine so that was good. The deserts they said were homemade. Isn’t everything supposed to be made at the restaurant? Cheesecake was ok. Topping things off with the check- extremely pricy for what it was!! EXTREMELY!!! Oh and they don’t take AMEX so know that. This place hasn’t been there long and unless they work on some things I don’t see it lasting. I have them 2 stars for the fact they know how to cook risotto and they realize an Italian restaurant should have a expresso machine. As with all my reviews If I get a public response I would consider going again.

Cafe Zuppina – Menu with Prices – 4417 Florida Ave S, Lakeland

Loved this place, but tonight was a big disappointment. They expanded and opened another unit next door with a market, a desert/coffee shop with couches, etc. and a gelato service with a few high-top tables. That area was huge and spacious unlike the dining room which was always, and still is smallish. \n\nFirst, we had reservations – arrived precisely on time, and all the tables were taken. They actually moved dining patrons around to other tables to make room for us. Then the wait for someone to greet us once seated was very long, 15 minutes? There can’t be tables for much more than 25 total patrons in the entire restaurant.\n\nThey have a B.Y.O.B. policy, and we always brought wine all the many times we went. Previously, they provided glasses, uncorked, and poured the wine at no additional charge. THIS TIME, they provided glasses, we uncorked and poured our wine ourselves – AND were charged $7.00 a bottle. There was no previous advanced warning of the policy and price change. Yes, I know other places sometimes charge too, but not without providing the service, or you expect to pay a premium for their alcohol if they are licensed – but you know that and expect to pay more for it. This just felt like a new profit center. There were many patrons who brought their own wine.\n\nNo more Turkish coffee or desert offered after dinner (an add on we gratefully paid for) – with free (of course tipped) tea leaf readings – a cute extra and part of the charm. Supposedly that was still available in the new market unit. \n\nFood is still delicious- but – it’s just not the same.

Casa Cubana Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 411 Hamilton Rd, London

This restaurant has always been my go to! Delicious food wonderful margaritas and Mojito’s and great service. When I went there last night with my sister she ordered what looked like a wonderful veggie dish with broccoli cauliflower asparagus a creamy sauce and Parmesan. When it came to the table it was a small dish of over cooked cabbage some peas thrown in about five pieces of broccoli and carrots in a broth. She didn’t want to complain but she told them she wasn’t paying $10 for that. They finally let her pay six dollars for something she barely ate very disappointing!

Sal’s Famous NY Pizza – Menu with Prices – 732 Eden Way N, Chesapeake

Sal’s in Greenbrier is consistently one of the better locations and our food tonight was no exception. Calzone w pepperoni, mushrooms and black olives for my guy. Chicken parmesan with spaghetti, the included garlic bread and side salad for me. I find the taste of mushrooms to be *insert gag sound* so I didn’t try his, but I’ve had other calzones here that were perfectly good. The chicken parm is adequate enough that I’ve also ordered it several times. (Haha) No, it isn’t THE best but it’s far from the worst. If I had to guess – the chicken comes frozen from the food distributor and the dish includes several thinner cutlets instead of one large whole breast. Either way, I always get at least 2 full meals from one entree. You also choose either spaghetti, penne or linguine for the pasta portion. I’ve only ever gotten the spaghetti. For those of you that care, the noodles are regular size – not thin or angel hair. The sauce is always pretty dang good and is a bit on the chunky tomato side which I love. My only issue was with the side salad. The lettuce was thinly sliced iceberg that you usually get on burgers and subs. That’s never acceptable to me in a salad. I’m not sure if their larger salad entrees offer different lettuces but I’d definitely inquire before ordering one. Also, the oil and vinegar dressing (tonight) was waaaayyyyy off. It was mostly oil with only a tinge of red wine vinegar so as you can imagine it tasted mostly like oil. Yuk! I ended up using some dressing from my fridge which was a bit annoying because I’ve enjoyed their O/V enough in the past that I even paid for an extra dressing tonight. Still not a big enough deal to ruin an otherwise good meal. FYI – all of my experiences here including tonight have been through the Yelp delivery feature on this app. Our food arrived 20 minutes later than the time frame quoted though it’s never been an issue on previous orders. I’ll definitely order again.

Broken Top Club Menu with Prices 62000 Broken Top Dr, Bend

We ate here with a group of 8 guys during a week-long guyâ??s ski trip. We usually have several dinners out, and thought this would be nice. It is a beautiful setting and we got a nice large table right by the window. FYI, we brought in about 10 bottles of our own wine and ordered another two when we ran short – it was that kind of an evening. We shared a variety of appetizers, including fried oysters and two others (sorry, Iâ??ve now forgotten what they were). All were very good, but weâ??re relatively small portions.Just about everyone had a salad, which I thought were all underwhelming. Small and nothing very special. The good news was that everyone thoroughly enjoyed their entree. Most ordered a steak or prime rib. All were well cooked and sizable. I wasnâ??t very hungry and opted for the scallops on risotto. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish, including the broccoli on the side. Most had dessert and/or coffee. Again, very good desserts.Overall, a very enjoyable evening, happy we came, and a beautiful setting,I would say the service was on the weak side, although Iâ??m sure a group like ours is hard to care for. I am quite strict about proper table service at a full-service restaurant, and the things like refilling wine and water glasses, replenishing bread, etc…. are important details. There is room for improvement there.Still, we left happy and I would not hesitate to return.

Zen Chinese Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 287 Lacewood Drive, #119, Halifax

Watch your bill! So, we came in at the normal dinner hour, and there was only 1 table with customers! Even with that, the waitress didn’t even spend any effort to really seat us she yelled from half way across the restaurant “take out or eat in” Then told us to sit anywhere by the window (aka make it look busy) At our table here we’re 2 glasses that were dry and 2 that looked like they were chucked on the table right out of the dish washer… She rudely came over and removed the extra settings and slammed them on the table behind us… Then threw the menus on the table… and unskilfully poured water in our glasses… and spilled some on the table. She rushed our ordering process… then less then 10 minutes later without notice she left. No word to either of the tables that our server was changing. Terrible service from her was the start! We ordered the typical combo plates because we didn’t wanna pick. I added beef and broccoli because I love it (under normal circumstances) So my combo was 10.95, and it was 5 extra for the beef and broccoli, my dads was 12.95. We both had soup 5.90 a bowl. Everything was slow in coming but HOT… I tasted something burnt that was either in it or near it… My beef and broccoli was great, but the broccoli was HUGE like whole stalk pieces! (Take 2 bite size) the amount of rice on my plate was INSANE! I couldn’t eat it! Now remember I said at the beginning WATCH your bill…. Once the bill arrived…. the soup was 6.50, my combo plate was 17.95, and dads was 14… so, remember how I said mine was 10.95+5.00….. they added the 5 bucks to my dads more expensive plate…. and wanted a tip! So, if you order something here…. make sure it says so on your bill of you’ll end up paying them twice as much for a tip then you planned! Needless to say, I don’t plan to go back!

The Second Glass – Menu with Prices – 1540 S 2nd St Unit 110, Wilmington

My husband and I went to The Second Glass on a Friday night. This wine bar/ restaurant is located in the trendy South Front District. Hats off to the owners for preserving an old building. But, alas, the interior is devoid of old industrial charm. It has bright lighting and the kind of windows that one finds in new hotels. In fact, it looks like a restaurant that one would find in a hotel. There was some faint jazz in the background that added ambiance. The service was phenomenal. Our server was very friendly and attentive, stopping by to fill our glasses with the bottled water provided on the table. Wine is offered by the glass, half pours, and bottles, many of which were pricier than your average restaurant. I enjoyed a delicious Grenache and my husband had a beer. I guess we should have had “the second glass,” but maybe next time. We ordered the pimento cheese with pickles and warm water crackers. The cheese spread was on the mild side, but those pickles added zest. And, those house made crackers…..nicely salted and crunchy like nothing else that I have ever sampled. We also got the gnocchi, root vegetables, and mushrooms. Best gnocchi that I ever had. Imagine eating buttery, cloud-like pillows complimented by unctuous mushrooms, raw micro greens, and beet purée. You gotta try it! The Second Glass has vegan and vegetarian offerings as well as meatier plates. I look forward to attending their weekly wine tasting!

Phosome Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 480 Parliament St, Toronto

We came here for lunch today. It wasnâ??t busy and the restaurant was extremely well staffed. We ordered four dishes. (1) fresh rolls with mushrooms (2) a vegetarian curried soup (3) shrimp/chicken pad thai, and (4) vegan bun. The food was just okay. There was a weird flavour in everything – almost a chemical taste…not sure what it was or whether I need to be concerned. The main issue was the chicken in the pad thai. It was like rubber. You could barely chew through it. Completely inedible. I brought this to the attention of the waiter who, besides apologizing and saying something to the effect of â??the kitchen made it in a rushâ?, she didnâ??t rectify it. Any normal restaurant would have replaced the dish, offered an alternative, or not charge for it. Anyways, itâ??s only their first or second week in operation…so theyâ??re still learning how to run a restaurant…which is why I will give them another try in 6 months. I will credit them with at least offering a lot of vegan and vegetarian options.

Mike’s Bistro – Menu with Prices – 127 E 54th St, New York

Enjoyed a really wonderful dinner here with my family. The ambience is lovely (although the acoustics are not conducive to conversations LOL). We started with a bottle of Pinot Grigio which was a very welcoming start. Our water glasses were constantly refilled. Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to describe and recommend dishes. For appetizers we chose: eggplant with spaghetti Bolognese: delightful meld of textures and flavors, duck gnocchi: just as delicious as we had anticipated . Highly recommend., Sweet breads: nicely prepared – not my cup of tea, Yam Fritters with dipping sauce. Very tasty -crispy on the outside soft and sweet on the inside. We were also served some fresh olives and delicious Crostini with Olive oil. For our entrees we shared two main dishes for three people. The portions were quite generous and we could not even finish those: we had Mikes Famous short ribs: absolutely delicious well marinated in barbecue sauce so tender you could eat it with a fork alone. We then had the USDA Prime Cote De Boeuf for two: served on a sizzling platter. This was perfect for us since my Brothers prefer their beef rare or medium rare and I prefer medium. We all shared the same steak and were able to enjoy different degrees of cooking. The steak was flavorful and crispy on the outside. Served with a port wine reduction sauce which was heavenly. They also served a bearnaise sauce which we did not try. We ordered a mushroom side dish. It was a combination of various different types of mushrooms in a sauce. None of us really enjoyed this dish. It tasted like there was perhaps too much vinegar or something else going on there. I would not recommend this. For desserts we had apple crisp à la mode, and guava sorbet. The service was excellent. At one point I accidentally spilled my glass of wine. A busboy immediately came over,to clean it up,. Even though the restaurant was very full and busy our servers were always available. Overall, a wonderful experience with delicious food, And great company.

Hana Teppanyaki House – Menu with Prices – 4036 River Oaks Dr #9, Myrtle Beach

Hana Teppanyaki House was our last meal of our vacation before we headed home. We came in a little before 6pm on a Friday. We were greeted upon entering and told to sit anywhere we wanted. There were a handful of 4 top tables and a few booths inside. The restaurant is a bit small but quaint and nicely decorated. Our server, Linda, was a doll. She gave us recommendations and they were on point. She was friendly, personable, and just all-around awesome. She truly made us feel welcome. The other staff members we encountered were just as friendly and warm. Throughout our meal, there were several people that came in for carryout orders. They too were greeted (all by first name) and welcomed in. We started with a Popcorn Chicken and Green Bean appetizer based on a recommendation from our server. It did not disappoint! It was cuts of chicken in a light batter with crispy green beans. There was a quite a bit of salt on the dish so you may want to ask for little or no salt if you order this. The chicken was great. The green beans were flash fried and crispy. It was delicious. Our meals (dinner combos) are cooked Hibachi Style and are served with soup, salad, veggies, and a choice between fried rice or noodles. The House Soup (homemade chicken broth with egg, chicken, bacon, corn) was so good. I’ve never had a soup like it. We all opted for the House Salad with creamy dressing (tastes like peppercorn ranch). The salad was fresh. We loved the dressing. We ordered: – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & Chicken with noodles and veggies (broccoli, zucchini, onions, mushrooms) – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & Scallops with noodles and veggies (broccoli) – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & fried rice with veggies (broccoli, zucchini, onions) All of us throughly enjoyed our meals. We asked for sides of teriyaki sauce and it elevated the meal! The filet was cooking to our liking. My parents loved the noodles. The fried rice was really food. I loved the sauce the chicken was cooked in. The veggies were so soft. Overall, we loved everything about this experience in dining here and we will definitely return the next time we are on vacation.

Good Kitchen + Market – Menu with Prices – 116 Margaret Ave NE, Marietta

I really wanted to like this place. I have a new baby and don’t get to get out much, so to have a disappointing experience was a major letdown. Our server (didn’t catch her name) was ok- we ordered a bottle of wine- the bartender came over and opened it and she just plopped it in the table. I’ve never been to a restaurant that didn’t do wine service. Why am I expected to tip you on a bottle of wine if you don’t pour the wine initially and then continuously throughout the meal? We ordered the Thai meatballs and salmon piccata. The meatballs came with a produce sticker right in top of the dish from a pepper or zucchini. Which leads me to think it probably wasn’t washed in the first place. The zoodles were soggy and the whole dish lacked flavor. The salmon piccata was just ok. It was well done – we asked for extra capers and they put them straight out of the jar in a ramekin on the side. Why would we want cold capers on the side of a dish that has cooked capers in it? The salad was like a leftover hamburger toppings salad. Romaine lettuce, tomatoes and red onion. It needs cheese or nuts or something else. When we got our bill, I noticed we didn’t receive 50% off the rosé wine (a special I saw on their Instagram that they hadn’t communicated with the server, btw). I mentioned it to our server and she argued that she had already done it. I said again that it was clearly not right on the bill.. with attitude, she says “I’ll go fix it again.” Ok. Overall very bad experience and would not recommend. Your staff needs much more training and the food needs help.

Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits – Menu with Prices – Columbia

This is hands-down this is the best liquor store in Kansas City that I have had the pleasure of visiting! The selection at the store is extremely thorough and wide-ranging from the many Boulevard microbrews, to smaller breweries located throughout the United States (i.e. the brewery that makes “Not Your Fathers Root Beer”), to a full selection of all the largest beer brands, both domestic and imported, and we have not even mentioned the wine selection yet! As I am not a wine connoisseur, this review will focus on the service and the selection of the beer at this location. At my last visit to the store, I was purchasing a few gifts for Christmas. One gift that I wanted to purchase and give was the beer that I mentioned above, “Not Your Fathers Root Beer”. Now allow me a second to talk about this beer: I had my first few glasses in Chicago roughly a year ago in a Gastropub where the server who suggested that I try it also warned me that I should be careful of this particular beer because it tastes exactly like root beer yet has a high ABV percentage. Readers and root beer drinkers alike can obviously see how that could be quite dangerous! Yes it is true, after two glasses I was starting to feel somewhat druken, perhaps a little too much! I had been searching liquor stores for this beer for a long time, since I had last tasted it in that Gastropub in Chicago. What do you know? This Hy-Vee liquor store has such an amazing selection of beer that this beer was in abundance on its shelves. This same day that I was purchasing these presents the store was extremely busy, seeing as it was Christmas time. When I needed a clerk to come help me retrieve some additional beer from the back he had no problem whatsoever doing so and was exceptionally professional about it! Truly service with a smile! In the future, if I ever need any beer, wine, and/or liquor (especially if it’s a difficult to find brand) I will most certainly and without a doubt be going to the Hy-Vee liquor store on Stateline!

Season To Taste Menu with Prices 7635 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge

I love this place because the customer service is amazing and just the variety of different oils you can use for cooking your proteins to dressing your favorite salad. They just have just a mixture of different little Knick knacks. I even got my grandmother the cutest little dish scrubbies bc she doesn’t use her dish washer. Five stars for me bc of quality service and products. And they are great if you are looking for a gift for someone. Love love love and their coffee is so good. I got an almond Rocca latte with extra shot of expresso and I will take that over any chain like Starbucks any day. It was perfect.
