This place has apparently been in Fort Wayne longer than I have (my entire life, by the way), and yet tonight is the first time I’ve ever past thru its doors. The evening was certainly interesting, but in a good way. This place is in a bit of a time warp – they accept cash and checks, but no credit cards; and….if you don’t happen to have enough cash to cover the tab, they actually send you home with a stamped and addressed envelope so that you can SEND THEM A CHECK. Who does this? Apparently Durnells, and according to our server, they never been stiffed on a bill. Unbelievable. Anyhow, we went in for dinner, as we had heard that their fried fish on was really good, and we had heard correctly – the fish was terrific, and the portions are enormous. The decor is old school also, but not in a bad way. We will be back to try more items on the menu, with cash in hand. Also….no beer, wine or liquor – strange for a “bar and grill”, but they apparently dropped their license some time ago. If you are looking for something a little different, this place certainly qualifies!

Java Crew Vista – Menu with Prices – 3045 Commercial St SE, Salem

So what customer service do they provide when after you have waited 8 minutes to even order, they then tell you it’s “cash only” because their credit card machine is down? Can you guess? If you guessed a free $3 coffee, you’d be WAY off the mark. No, she provided directions to another Java Crew and one punch on a punch card. YEP, that’s right…total waste of my time and future patronage. UNBELIEVABLE I say!!!! There was no sign saying “cash only”, in the front window…to alert people waiting in the drive thru. UNBELIEVABLE! And the topper? The complete TOPPER? I just got home to email corporate, and spent the time to write them a letter, etc….and when I went to send…their feedback button won’t send! It’s down!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Oh my lord.

Shack Breakfast & Lunch – Menu with Prices – 7940 W 135th St, Overland Park

I tried to love The Shack. I really did. The first visit was okay except for our breakfast wasn’t freshly cooked. Based on the reviews of my fellow esteemed and trustworthy YELPERS, we went back the next day. I was determined to love The Shack and taste some of the amazing food I’d heard tell of. When we were ordering, I even told my server we were coming back as a ‘second chance’ to experience how great they could be. I told him we’d been in the day before but were disappointed in the heat lamp temps of our entrees. He told me they were probably just too busy the day before. Apparently, they were “too busy” to serve hot food the second day too. He dropped off the entrees and disappeared. I had to flag him down and tell him my hash browns were only somewhat warm. He brought me out another serving, and they were hot. That was fortunate, because… we didn’t see him again until he dropped off the check. No ‘check back in’ to see how things are at this place! On the plus side, the entrée names are fun. The restaurant was clean. Entrée portions are large but the prices reflect that. I had the ‘why the French hate us’ and it was well put together. My friend said his entrée was “just okay”. I remain puzzled at the disparity in our experience and that of others. Color me disappointed and underwhelmed.

Loony Bin Comedy Club – Menu with Prices – 215 St Francis, Wichita

I am so disappointed about how I was treated and will never be returning. The night started off fun and the comedians were great. At the end of the night, our server decided she could treat us however she wanted (I’m assuming because gratuity was already added to our checks — she didn’t care about being nice anymore). I was with a group of 8 people, three couples and two others. Our server did not keep track of what we order throughout the night, and thought it was acceptable to simply split the bill in three. When we received our checks, there was about 10 minutes of the show left, so we asked her if we could wait until the end to figure them out and make them right. For some reason, this really made our server mad. Her whole attitude with us changed. At the end of the show, she brought security over with her and asked us, “So how do you want to do this then?” Correctly… I want to do it correctly. After her rudely going through every item we ordered and somewhat fixing our bills, we paid and decided it was time to leave. I had already left the performance area and was finishing a drink out front when she come up to me and held a receipt in my face. She then said she was missing a signed receipt and pointed at me telling me she was missing mine. I paid with cash, so no I did not have a signed credit card receipt. This behavior by a server is unacceptable when people are paying to be somewhere. The comedians were great, but I will never be returning if this is how people are allowed to be treated.

Merkado31 On The Beach – Menu with Prices – 216 71st St, Miami Beach

Unbelievable food and service, Jose was incredible and when my wife told him it was her first time trying Peruvian dishes he went above and beyond explaining each dish and provided small samples of chichi morrotta and fresh fried corn nuts for our ceviche. I had the grilled octopus and it was incredible, it is listed as an appetizer but it’s a meal unto itself. We travel a lot and this is one of the best restaurants we’ve found in ages. Follow up – We went again and this time for lunch. Ask your server for the lunch menu, it has loads of choices and is a set price of $10. Lunch includes an appetizer and an entree. The food was once again incredible and the portions were so big we had our left overs for dinner.

Sea Fish N Chips – Menu with Prices – 45 High St SE, Calgary

I just got home from a late lunch/early dinner at Sea. Fish n Chips. I’m pretty disappointed. While it wasn’t dreadful, it definitely won’t have me returning. First, the food. I ordered the “Jaws” meal, with the halibut as my choice. “Jaws” comes with 2 prawns, 2 scallops, 2 oysters, fish, slaw, and chips. Sounds great, right? Well, not so much. I received a TINY spoon of slaw, a handful of chips (honestly, about 12-15 pieces?) and the seafood. The chips tasted as if they had been fried in old oil. Not very good at all. The prawns and scallops were decent enough, the fish was a TINY portion though (i’m guessing 2 oz. TOPS, which when paying the premium for the big meal with the premium fish, I expected a bit larger) — the fish portion tasted fine, but I am dubious as to if it was actually halibut. (I used to manage a Fish n Chips place — I can identify fish by taste/texture. It was more akin to cod or a haddock — not dense like halibut usually is…hmmm…) The oysters though? There was something definitely off with them. I was actually frightened to eat them for fear of becoming ill later…. and I am not one to be persnickity usually. The “off” oysters now brings me to my next issue with Sea…. the service. The service was friendly enough, but the server was completely inattentive. We were one out of the 2 tables in there and they didn’t appear to busy with take-out service or anything. Both myself and my dining companion ordered coffee and we waited a very long time before being offered a refill. When we received our meals it was still awhile before we ever got more coffee, and she dropped our plates so fast that we couldn’t even catch her to ask for more. (where she was off to, I have no idea… like I said, we were one of two tables) We never got any sort of quality check. I was waiting, and waiting, hoping she’d come by so I could let her know about the strange/off oysters, but nothing…. I finally went to the counter and told the young man, because the server wasn’t even IN the dining area. (??) The response? “Really? Huh. That’s weird. Let me get your server.” (I would have apologized…???) The oysters were replaced with 2 other prawns, which was ok. But it was frustrating not having a check-up shortly after food was dropped. I’m in the service industry myself. I am actually VERY forgiving with less than stellar service if I can see the server is overwhelmed with tables, or appears to be in training or whatever. Our server at Sea. just seemed to not really care one way or another. When she was at our table she was “friendly” I suppose, but I felt like there was no actual SERVICE. Given the disappointment in food (value and taste), and service, I don’t think I’ll ever be back. Wouldn’t get take-out either. No wonder the place was pretty much a ghost town…. ?

J J Fish & Chicken – Menu with Prices – 217 7th St, Rockford

I was somewhat skeptical when I read on the menu that the fish was farm raised, and info was not given on the menu concerning if the chicken was free range, factory raised, farm raised, or organic. Being I’m in Rockford and not back home in Atlanta I didn’t bother asking being most restaurants I have frequented since I have been in town look at your crazy when you ask such questions. At any rate I ordered a fish combo ( 2 catfish fillets with 4 chicken wings, fries, coleslaw, and bread). my order took about 20 minutes, not bad at all, lets me know my order was cooked fresh. Everything tasted great, seasoned to perfection and fried perfectly. The portions for the fish and chicken were nice big portions. The price for the combo considering the portions was AWESOME. I only have one complaint one piece of bread is not enough for all the food they serve for the combo meal I selected. I would recommend this restaurant to others looking for good fish/chicken dinner.

Arriba Villa Taqueria And Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 3040 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem

Hidden gem in Winston-Salem. We frequented this place at least once a week, usually more often than that, when it opened during our last year of law school. The servers are the greatest and the food is awesome. Everything we ever ordered was delicious. My favorites are the fish tacos, fried and with flour tortillas, and the shrimp fajitas. They let you order the lunch portion of dishes even at dinner which is just the best bc the lunch portions are plenty. The Texas marg is the way to go bc the extra tequila balances the sweet mix. We were genuinely sad to say goodbye to our favorite waiter when we had one last dinner here before moving away, and we miss the food here! And if you like super spicy salsa, ask for the spicy salsa as well when they give you the regular chips and salsa. You only need a little but it’s delicious!

El Camaron Alegre Mariscos restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1588 W Highland Ave, San Bernardino

This place has had some severe ups and downs. At first the food was excellent and the service great. Then the best waitress got wonderlust and took time off. The food stayed just ok but the service dropped off. She returned and things went back to great. Then she got pregnant and had to go for bed rest. The service dropped as well as the quality of the food. Last night was the worst. We were greeted by a lazy teenage girl. She was leaning on the counter by the cash register the whole time. We had to ask for a menu twice. She ‘took’ our order by shouting across the restaurant. She totaled the order and announced the total before sending the order to the kitchen. When we sat down we noticed that three tables were dirty. One had three coke cans still on it. There was no one in the restaurant and no one left as we went in. The tables had been dirty for quite a while. I had to ask for a cloth so I could wipe the table myself. The man who came out of the kitchen thought we were being picky until he arrived at the tables. He then went out of his way to give us the service we should have been getting. HE brought the water we had asked for we placed the order ten minutes before. The fish tacos were still pretty good. The portions of the fish for the fish and chips have been drastically reduced. We ordered hush puppies. They were slightly raw in the middle suggesting the oil was too hot. There was a slight rancid taste to the surface of the hush puppies suggesting that the oil should have been changed sooner. The ceviche was drastically different from before but it was still very good. This used to be a favorite place. Now I doubt we will ever return.

Torteria San Lenchito – Menu with Prices – 4810 N Drake Ave, Chicago

Just moved to Albany Park this summer, but haven’t had a lot of time to explore the restaurant options. It’s a cool fall day today, and everything about it said “tortas” to me! I dropped in to check out this little place, and all the reviews are spot-on. It’s close and cozy inside and exceptionally tidy from what I can see. My server was sweet and fast, and the chef did a great job with my giant sandwich! I heard the sizzle on the flat top as every ingredient was prepared. I got the chicken mole (love love mole) with fries and a bottle of Coke. The chips they give you as a little appetizer came with refried beans on top AND a little cup of bean … soup? I don’t know if I was supposed to eat that bowl of beans with a spoon, but it came with one so I did. The homemade salsas were excellent on top of the crispy, freshly fried chips. The torta was enormous (I could barely finish half) and amazing. I’d never had a torta with mayo on it, and it wasn’t too much – just added a nice richness. Chicken mole is one of my favorite things, and this had a great flavor. Not too saucy to eat, and perfect with little drips of red salsa. I will be back!! Winter is long and cold here and I need mole to keep me going!!

Nawa – Inspired Asian Cuisine & Cocktails – Menu with Prices – 126 W Columbia St, Fort Wayne

We didn’t have reservations, but that didn’t seem to be a problem with the Columbia street construction. The atmosphere is delightful with many warm tones of natural wood and Edison bulbs. The bar staff is very friendly. The host was ever so accommodating because we had our 7 year old daughter with us and they were able to pull a table for 5 together relatively quickly. The waitress was professional and friendly, however service was a tad slow, but one waitress had several tables and apparently knew the other patrons and chatted for a bit. The food was definitely the star of the show. The steak my mother in law had was huge and she shared with my daughter. The Thai noodles my father in law had were tasty to him and plentiful. My husband had the whole fried snapper. Omg such huge portions, but you pay the price for it for sure. But the breading the fish was fried in was light and tasty, not over salted at all! Beware if you’re the average American and done want to see fish heads or fins, just ask them to not send that portion out! I had the lettuce wraps as my meal. They were plentiful and filled up with lots of chicken. There are only two things I didn’t like, that was the chairs that we sat on most uncomfortable to me. However they are nice to look at. The sexy is the music was a bit loud and it caused the do of the place to louder than I appreciated, especially when one table was practically yelling so loud I couldn’t hear the conversation at our own table. Once they left it was much better. I’d like to say that we’ll be back. It was really good food. Not to mention they have really good handmade house cocktails. Great place!

Thai origin Menu with Prices 4686 Broadway, Allentown

Excellent Thai food. I have eaten at more than a hundred Thai restaurants and this is one of the best ones. Plus, they were fast and our server (who is part owner) was very hospitable. We had the following: Papaya salad: very nicely presented wrapped in lettuce and garnished with an orchid. Liberal amount of whole peanuts. Red snapper with kaffir lime and chili sauce: the fish was just right, not overly fried nor too fishy raw. There were plenty of veggies. Creamy tomyum soup – the shrimps we added were enormous and had a delightful snap as you chewed (read: not overly cooked rubber). Tasty with coconut. Green curry – excellent. The tofu was steamed to a nice consistency. Pad Thai – served with sprouts and crushed peanuts on the side . Flavorful with a little sweetness. We got the dishes spicy. All dishes were 5/5. Portions were generous and we had leftovers even after four at the table. We will be back soon. They are also open on Sunday’s and I’m looking forward to that as well ?

Socastee Station – Menu with Prices – 4504 Socastee Blvd a, Myrtle Beach

I had heard a couple of people mention this little place and they commented that it was really good. When we pulled in, i literally kind of hesitated. The outside doesn’t look like what you would expect….BUT Don’t let the looks fool you. We went inside to find a very Family Friendly restaurant and were seated very quickly. Our Waitress (Mary) was wonderful!! The service was very quick and the food was brought out just as fast. My Husband ordered the Fish Dinner, and in honor of Ash Wednesday, they had all you could fish. He ordered the fried Haddock, and it came with Fries and Cole slaw. The fish was fabulous. Light not fried ‘too done’ … actually it was perfect. I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, I just needed some Comfort Food, and it literally melts in your mouth. It was served with Mashed Potatoes and fresh green beans. Absolutely delicious. But the highlight came when Mary brought out the Fried Brownie!!! That dessert should be illegal!! It was beyond yummy!!! The brownie was deep fried and the chocolate inside literally melted as you cut into it. And if you can only imagine that brownie with a sweet Vanilla Ice cream…….. needless to say, we will be back!! Again don’t hesitate to go in!! The food is amazing!!!!!
