THE BEST LOCAL MEAL PREP SERVICE I’VE USED. I’ve been ordering from Healthy Helpings throughout the year, and I’ve loved just about every single meal. They keep a consistent menu for the most part, and each week, I see their Instagram with new specials that allow me to try something new from time to time. I get 5 lunches a week, which is perfect for me because I work in an office, I’m lazy to meal prep, and I save time/money/gas from going out to lunch everyday. They also have 10-meal and 15-meal plans, or you can just buy a single meal. Everything is packed neatly in reusable containers (Or, at least I think reusable; I’m still using them months later, so if any staff reads this and wants to warn me otherwise, I’ll continue.) And the best part: everything is healthy AND affordable! I appreciate knowing how many calories and macros (I think that’s what they’re called) are in my food. I also appreciate not spending $80+ on lunches per week like other meal prep services (*cough* Freshly *cough*). I thought because it was healthy, the flavor would be whatever–but nope. The food is delicious, and they have familiar options (hamburgers, tacos, abondigas, chicken salads, steak, salmon) with tasty twists that make them enjoyable to eat everyday. I consider myself a picky eater, so I love that Health Helpings balances traditional foods with new flavors that I don’t feel guilty about eating. To sum up my obnoxiously long essay, Healthy Helpings is great. I’m all about supporting dependable local businesses. If you’re looking to amp up your health life before that wedding, vacation, or just to make the primas whisper jealously behind your back, check out their menu and place and order. Combine it with some exercise and bam, gainz. (Also shoutout to the person behind Instagram who promptly and professionally answers any questions I have about ordering, recommendations, etc. For all you social media savvy folk or those who hate the phone like me, you can hit up their IG for info or questions.)

Valley Meal Prep – Menu with Prices – 0560, 222 McHenry Ave, Modesto

It’s been quite awhile since I have been eating healthy and have been paying the price with weight gain and feeling crappy. The owner of VMP, Matt Martin, posted some new menu items on Facebook recently and that inspired me to get back in the groove again. So off to VMP I went. I went in on a Monday afternoon and it was hoppin’. It was so busy, that the choices weren’t as plentiful as they usually are, but that’s ok, everything made here is healthy and tastes great. I had no problem finding a nice variety. Despite creating a new menu, VMP still had my favs, such as the Asada bowl and the Blueberry Protein pancakes. I made my choices for my lunches for the work week, and found out that VMP still has the deal where if you order 4 meals, you get the 5th for free. 5 meals came to $38 even. That’s $7.60 a meal. That includes Nutrition facts for each meal ( calories, fat, carbs and protein info), no shopping for groceries, no cooking, no dishes, no kitchen clean up and a very nice variety of healthy meals. The containers are even reusable if you wash them by hand. I use them when I do my own meal prepping or when I want to send friends home with leftovers. Honestly, for healthy, economical meals like this, it doesn’t make sense to cook yourself. If you’re on the fence about getting healthy because it’s too much of an effort to cook or keep track of nutritional info, VMP is your answer.

Good Eats Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1116 Coolidge St Suite F, Lafayette

Good Eats Kitchen has had an extremely positive impact on my life and health. I’ve been eating their meals consistently for the last 2 months and my body can tell the difference. I’ve lost weight and toned up, I perform better in my workouts and I feel better overall throughout the day. I never finish a meal and still feel hungry. The portions are filling and every meal is delicious! Not to mention I save hours each week from not having to grocery shop/meal prep or stress about what to eat for the week. They are constantly adding in new menu items, too, which is great because you never feel like you’re eating the same thing all the time.

Apple Spice Junction – Menu with Prices – 1909 Carew St, Fort Wayne

I’m a local office manager & have been ordering from Apple Spice Junction for almost a year now for most of my catered lunches at work. Not only is it a business with a foundation based on helping people in need, the food is outstanding! Their boxed lunch menu is the absolute best for working lunches & the sandwiches are delicious & the portions are GENEROUS. The salads are huge, and the ranch dressing is made in house (seriously so good). Everything is fresh, you can tell each item is made with care. Orders are taken promptly, and delivery times are better than expected. Nate is beyond friendly, and nothing like a manager who is there answering the phones everyday in the middle of all the action. I have recommended them to many people & will continue to order. Great company, with a great cause. This business is inspiring!

Snap Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 4005 Montrose Blvd, Houston

My partner and I got a weeks worth of lunches from Snap Kitchen. Overall, Snap Kitchen has a pretty diverse menu and makes the process very simple – order what you want, pick up, grab and go during the week. If you are looking for something purely convenient, Snap Kitchen is the way to go. However, Snap Kitchen is marketed as being a healthy alternative. Of the five different lunch items we got, there was maybe one objectively “healthy” meal. Most of the meals were pretty high in sodium, high in saturated fats, and had some considerable sugar content. The meals we got ranged from about 300-450 calories. Meals varied in how tasty they were – lasagna was a favorite, but higher in sodium and sugar. Chimichurri chicken had healthiest nutritional info, but lacked flavor and seemed kind of bland. Based on the nutritional information, I’m not sure that buying a meal from Snap Kitchen (~$10 per meal) is all that different from buying a healthier frozen meal from a grocery store (~$4-5). I’m just not convinced this is actually a healthy alternative unless the meals you choose are salads. Convenient? Yes. Tasty? Meh. Healthy? Not really.

Roots Café – Menu with Prices – 2229 N School St, Honolulu

I’m so happy to have found this little gem in Kalihi! Plate lunches in Kalihi are a dime a dozen, but finding healthier, more nutritious meal can be quite the challenge! Thanks to Yelp I found this little spot and gave them a try on a Thursday. I bought the Eggplant Curry lunch for $8 and also bought 1 starfruit and 1 local orange. Total came out to around $10! The curry tasted great, the best part is that it didn’t feel like a bucket of sodium! I also liked the colorful salad and tried their balsamic mint dressing. Overall, it was quite a healthy and delicious and affordable lunch! It’s great that they have a mini farmers market as well that had fruits and veggies! I ate my starfruit and orange a day later and they were so juicy and yummy. They have an awesome Instagram, I look forward what’s next on the menu! I do hope they rotate through some of their most popular dishes, I saw some of the past menus and was so enticed by the offerings! The only downside is that they have limited hours/opening times and that the menu is not always posted on Instagram, but I believe in their mission so I’m willing to make the drive and be surprised! Fast Facts: -Parking was relatively easy. They have a lot for the 2 medical buildings. -They take credit card! -Order at the register and pick up at the counter -Compost/Recycle available! -Ample and spacious seating

Abby Singer’s Bistro – Menu with Prices – 617 Texas St, Shreveport

I can’t explain it! Well, this was my first experience at this restaurant and I wasn’t impressed. First off it was lunchtime and my time was limited. I waited 8mins at the wait to be seated sign for the rude waitress that coughed over everything to acknowledge I wanted service. It took a lady to walk over to her and tell her I was there… I ask the rude waitress who was the lady who alerted her of my presence and the waitress said” I don’t know who in the fuck she is”. Wow, what great customer service. I was told to sit at the bar to make my order. I ordered and watch the waitress cough, cough, touch money, cough into her hands and cough, cough, and cough without washing her hand. She then complain about her $3 tips. She cough and waited on other tables. This is how the flu and other germs are passed around. The Managers really need to teach your waitress hand sanitizing and how important it is to practice safe serve. I Ordered the chicken and waffles, it wasn’t a half of chicken and it was bland but with the hot honey sauce made it taste better. I wanted to take my family back for the experiences but I wasn’t really moved by the whole ideal….

Marmitaria café & buffet – Menu with Prices – 182 Wilson Ave, Newark

Marmitaria Saudável is a Newark, home-cooked food delivery and pick-up service. They make an assortment of tasty, filling, and nutritious meals. Perfect choice for healthy meal prep in Newark. Due to their success, they’ve recently opened this storefront location in a quaint cafe. They specialize in healthy and fit meals, homemade with Brazilian flavor and seasoning. The menu is creative and changes weekly. The new storefront location offers trays of fresh food to eat in the restaurant or for take-away! For only $6 a meal for pick-up, it’s an amazing deal. Each meal is made with care, delicious, and filling to keep your diet on track. For $7, they’ll even deliver your meals to the surrounding area of Newark, Elizabeth, Kearny. The menus are posted weekly on the Facebook page, and you can order via phone or Whatsapp. The menu changes every week, so there’s a ton of variation. The menu that gets posted is currently in Portuguese, as it is a home-style Brazilian-run business. The food and recipes therefore are also representative of Brazilian cuisine, such as various stews, moquecas, and more. So far, everything I’ve had from there has been well worth the price, as well as being incredibly delicious which will keep me ordering more and more.

Kitchen and Online HQ for Kitchfix – Menu with Prices – 1731 W Grand Ave, Chicago

I can’t believe I waited so long to try Kitchfix but I am SO happy that I did. I’ve always loved the idea of meal prep kits or meal delivery services or anything to make life easier with regard to planning, shopping, cooking, etc. I have two kids and a demanding job, so I’m always running short on time and happy to find any sort of shortcut or life hack. I also have a nutritionist who prescribes a unique diet (and one which changes week to week) for me. A typical mealtime in my house consists of me making two meals – one for the kids/my husband and then one for myself, which I usually wind up eating after after the rest of them have finished. I tried a couple of other services in the past, but in the end, they just didn’t work for me because I was always having to adjust ingredients to tailor the meal for myself. Plus most of the time, my kids wouldn’t eat the stuff, so I would still have to make a separate meal for them. Ultimately they just didn’t make life any easier. Kitchfix is a GAME CHANGER. I can totally customize the menu to fit my quirky ever-changing meal plan and get individual servings of meals just for me. I can now heat up my Kitchfix meal while I’m making dinner for the rest of the family and we can all eat at the same time. AND I can order lunches for the week and have them dropped at my office on Monday morning. Delicious meals with a good variety of options, all compliant with what I’m supposed to be eating and cheaper than buying lunch every day! I would give 10 stars if I could…

Plate Therapy – Menu with Prices – 26306 Ferry Ct, Santa Clarita

I am so stoked to have discovered this place! A buddy told me a year ago to check it out. Unfortunately, I was living in Irvine at that time and delivery was not available for that far away. When relocating to Los Angeles, I forgot about this company and I’ve been ordering for delivery and eating out every day until recently. Delivery and eating out has taken a serious toll on me. Majority of the time, I would end-up tossing most of the food (approx. 70%). One bad habit I have is not liking or eating leftovers. There’s something about leftovers that grosses me out. So, I would eat about 30% of the food and toss the remaining. I was spending an average of $1600 per month eating out and for delivery. I finally ordered for delivery from Plate Therapy and had the first week of food delivered. I didn’t quite order enough for the first week; I didn’t want to risk not liking a product and end-up wasting money. Well, that waste of thought and time. The food was delicious! I cannot believe how good the food is. The food is also very healthy, but not so healthy to the extreme where you’re eating tree bark, weeds and “natural” dirt. It’s “common sense” healthy. The food was so good, I immediately ordered more food to be delivered the following Sunday; I ordered twice the this time. The delivery was smooth sailing. I ordered the food earlier in the week for Sunday delivery. The delivery person was very professional. There was no attitude or request for me to walk down the block to retrieve my food, unlike some “delivery services”. I really wish I didn’t waste so much money within the last year ordering delivery and/or take-out. I’m definitely going to be saving a lot of money ordering from Plate Therapy. I’ll also be saving myself and my health, both mentally and physically! Bad service takes a toll on people after while, especially when it’s continuous and has been become standard protocol. It’s worse when it becomes an acceptable way of business. All I have to say to Plate Therapy is Thank You For Existing!!!

Anthony’s Health Hut & Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5329 Florida Ave S, Lakeland

Great heath food store. You can get daily supplies, vitamin/supplements. It is an organized health food store that cycles through items quickly, so never an old product. **They even make healthy food fresh. I’ve recently tried one of their sandwiches from the deli. It was called the Driz. Very good. Made inside a pita bread with mayo, fresh crunchy lettuce, bean sprouts and tomato with warm, surprisingly juicy, turkey chunks. **It is run by a wonderful woman, Ms. Anthony, who is very informed and gladly willing to give you info if you have questions. It’s also a great local business that has been making ‘Healthy Lakeland’ easier for over 40 years. Proud to buy anything here and support this business and Ms. Anthony.

LeanFeast – Corona, CA – Menu with Prices – 540 Hidden Valley Pkwy STE 101, Corona

If you like eating healthy or just short on time, this spot hooks it up. Most meal prep companies I have heard of require you to order online and wait for delivery days but LeanFeast is a game changer. You can simply walk in, buy a meal or two or ten, and walk out. It’s like a Chipotle but for meal preps! First, you choose from their proteins (bbq tri-tip, buffalo chicken, teriyaki chicken, chicken fire, turkey patties, etc.) and specify how many ounces you’d like. Next, you pick your carbs (rice, quinoa, potatoes, etc.). Then, the veggies. You can mix and match and they give plenty. Just pay and you’re done. LeanFeast makes eating healthy convenient and easy. They also offer specialty meals, protein shakes and healthy snacks. The people that work there are super nice too. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area! P.S. – bring in your clean LF containers for 5% off!

MacroBox Meals – Menu with Prices – 2217 S Grand Ave, Santa Ana

Finally a mealprep company that actually tastes good I have tried other companies in the area for mealprep before and although they are healthy, they were just not edible on my terms. I am so glad I found Macrobox because of many reasons. I love that they change their menu weekly so I am always excited for whats new and I do not get sick of the same items. I also like that all their ingredients are always fresh. And the biggest reason why I love Macrobox is that it is actually tasty. Their food is really good and done right. So far I have tried them for a week and I love it. I’ve had their steak and potatoes and their fish dish. The steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Even the potatoes are worth mentioning because they too were seasoned right. It didn’t taste dry like other companies. I recommend that dish if it is offered. I also like the way they make their fish. It’s hard to find a place that makes fish well without it having the fishy smell and with good seasoning. Macrobox did it perfectly. It was delicious yet healthy. Their pricing is very affordable. It’s either comparative to other meal prep companies or cheaper. They carry breakfast meals as well but I haven’t had the chance to try them yet. They usually have a good amount of options for you to choose from and their website was pretty easy to use. I love that they post their nutrition facts straight onto the website so you know what you are getting out of each meal. They couldn’t have made it easier for me. The staff working at Macrobox is also very nice when I encounter them. I are experienced at what they do and get me my meals in a reasonable timing. Overall, its a great meal prep company and perfect if you are a busy like I am and seeking for an alternative way to get in lunch without having to cook.
