They have different combo selections here. It’s all depends on individual personal taste. For the price they are offering I found it delicious. For my brother who is used fo eating sushi all the time said their sushi is ok but not the best. I like their udon soup and their tea.

Choo Choo Train Udon – Menu with Prices – 3030 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance

Torrance Food Crawl #350 Choo Choo Train Udon has to have one of the cutest names of any food place in Torrance. It’s located in the corner of the Market World supermarket and was formerly named Hanada Sushi. I’m not sure if there was an ownership change or not but the menu has changed, but still is a variety of Asian choices, mostly Korean and Japanese. The Combo #2 has an Udon Noodle Soup (http://bit.ly/2I3c5OY) that has a nice clear clean tasting broth, with seaweed, bean sprouts, green onions, and bread-like strips on top. The soup was accompanied with some kimchi and a sliced yellow item that I think was Korean melon. Very good. (4/5) The combo also included a Spicy Tuna Roll (http://bit.ly/2tchyhP). The sushi was served sliced on-end with the tuna and a spicy sauce on top. There was a nice crunchiness with the vegetable fillings. The tuna was a little lost in the spicy sauce. (3/5) The Bento Box Deluxe (http://bit.ly/2JSdVIn) comes with a large portion of food. Rather than beef I had mine with Spicy Pork, which was very thinly sliced and lightly spiced. The meat had a slight sandpapery texture but the taste was fine. The cabbage salad had an orange colored dressing, good. The sushi and kimchi were average. There also was a large portion of white rice. A small cup of their soup broth (http://bit.ly/2MEcpqV) was also provided, very good. (3/5) There are a few tables inside where you can eat but most business seems to be takeout. It also seems to be customary to pay for your items after they’ve been prepared if you have takeout, or if you eat there to pay at the counter after you’ve eaten.

Arigato Sushi – Menu with Prices – 11199-A, Lee Hwy, Fairfax

Came here on a Monday night at around 6:30. There were about about 2 tables when we arrived. We were greeted by the chefs (I couldn’t exactly tell what they said because it was in Japanese but I know it meant something along the lines of “welcome”) then the servers prompted us to our seats and took our order. We were given a complimentary small dish of edamame and fried cream cheese I think and our food came out pretty quick as well. We ordered age dashi tofu to start with along with a sushi&sashimi combo, salmon combo, and tempura udon as our meal. Everything tasted great especially the tempura udon. The broth was exceptional! However, I didn’t really like the spicy salmon hand roll. It wasn’t like the typical spicy mayo flavor, it was more of a korean red pepper paste flavor. After we were done eating, the servers quickly took our empty plates and gave us our checks. Nothing extraordinary but overall a fine experience.

Minato Japanese – Menu with Prices – 1314 Leesburg Rd, Columbia

Looking for a quick fix to satisfy my hunger. I came across this sushi joint not reading much of the info about this place just a review here and there about it being good. So I rolled the dice. The location is as described from everyone else…… To save you some time since most of you like me go right to the reviews and not so much into the details. This is a Sushi “TAKE OUT”. Not sure how I over read this but it actually wasn’t enough to send me away. I believe I saw the hours from 4pm to 9pm. I entered her shop which had a small section up front to wait on your “Take Out” and the rest was her kitchen. Looked very clean and well kept. She didn’t look busy at all either. I pulled up the menu and asked for options and she didn’t seem to have much input as a true master never talks a big game! I ordered a combo of the sushi norms Salmon, tuna, and eel rolls. Then I also added a soft shell crab roll. Still thinking it wasn’t enough food since the prices were so low I added some pan fried dumplings and a pork belly udon soup. Yeah it was more than enough for one person….. This rating is based solely on a “Take out” perspective for food. Sushi – After taking my first bite the rice had sort of a fresh sweetness taste to it…. almost like it was good quality rice. The raw fish tasted good was not disappointed with the quality of that as well. Off topic but I wonder if she uses the fish market next door… The soy sauce, wassabi, and pickled ginger taste like any sit down sushi place I ever been to but the ginger did taste a little better than other places. The pan fried dumplings were sitting on a bed of lettus which gives it a nice presentation. There wasn’t much wow in the dumplings but I like to eat a lot of dumplings. However the sauce was a really good dumpling sauce that came with it. All in all they worked pretty well together. The Pork Belly Udon soup was a surprise. I was expecting a watered down broth but received a hefty rich and bold flavor of pork. The udon noodles were not overly cooked and kept firm all the way home. Then there were not slices of pork belly but slabs of them! Okay maybe just thick slices but it was soft and made the soup even better. My overall experience here was a great take out experience. I don’t have much longer here for training but would recommend anyone in the area to give it a try if you want to take a meal home. I waited in my car while my phone charged and for my order to be ready but you should call ahead if you are on a time crunch.

Kaizen Shabu – Menu with Prices – 303 N Spurgeon St, Santa Ana

My friends and I decided to meet up at Kaizen fusion shabu shabu bar since it was a fair midpoint that complied with their dietary retrictions. Kaizen is located in downtown Santa Ana a few doors down from the famous YOST theater. There is a parking lot with meters you can pay for with credit card nearby. Lamson and Joselyn were helping us out and they were very welcoming and informative. They were passionate and thorough about the menu and their specials knowing it was our first visit. They made our meal extremely enjoyable! They have this awesome Combo bases (additional $2) where you can 2 soup bases, and they have a 10 oz Combo plate where you can choose from angus beef, chicken, kurobuta pork, pork belly, salmon, swai fish or shrimp. All of their shabu shabu plates here come with veggies, noodles, goma and ponzu sauce and rice. My first friend started off maximizing his options with the combo bases ($2) with spicy miso and tonkotsu and with combo protein ($25) option with angus beef and kurobuta pork. He had this with the white rice. My other friend went with the fancy coconut curry soup base (additional $2) with 7oz Angus Beef ($19) and white rice. I decided on the Tonkotsu broth since I enjoy the rich pork flavor for my soup base. For my proteins I definitely wanted variety so I also went with the combo ($25) and opted for the angus beef and pork belly. I know my eating habits well, so I asked for no rice, since I knew I would not be able to finish it. In addition to their complimentary sauces, I also asked for the Garlic Cilantro sauce (additional $1). The food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. 10 oz of meat does not sound like a lot but when the slices came out, I knew I would have to pace myself to finish the meal. I am so relieved I did not ask for rice! I am really happy with the richness of the tonkotsu base. They gave us garlic and chives to season our broth in which I really took advance of that garlic in my soup base and my sauces. The veggies were fresh. I wish they were cut a big more consistently in size, but overall still very good quality. With every shabu shabu meal I always start off eating about half of the meat with the vegetables I don’t love but eat for health reasons. Then I saved the things I enjoy like bokchoy and mushrooms for the udon soup portion. I asked them for their house soup base, then mixed it with my broth and some goma and pozu and made myself a nice bowl of udon soup with the remaining meat. It was such a DELICIOUSSSS bowl of udon. I was so full but still finished it. We loved the ambiance at Kaizen so much, we hung out while we recovered from our food coma and even decided to get desserts. My first friend had ube ice cream ($2.99), my other friend had mixed mochi ($3) with strawberry and green tea. I had the green tea ice cream ($2.99). It was a sweet way to end an incredible meal! I can definitely see this as a go-to spot to enjoy a fun and healthy-enough meal with friends.

Marugame Udon – Menu with Prices – 1318 Galleria Way, Glendale

Ugh I can’t get over this place! It’s sooo good. Every time I eat here I leave completely satisfied. Service is usually pretty quick except this one time they ran out of udon so we had to wait about 7 minutes for them to make it. It was definitely worth the wait. Udon noodles: The texture is so great. I love how it’s so thick and chewy. It’s cooked and immediately cooled down with cold water to keep the elasticity. There’s also complimentary tempura flakes, green onions, and ginger right before the register so be sure to load up on those! Then on the side, there’s a small counter with tempura sauce, shoyu, sriracha and extra soup if you need it. #6 bukkake udon (regular-cold) I’m usually not into cold noodles but I had just finished a long hike and wanted something refreshing. I didn’t know something so simple could be so good! It’s literally just udon in the soup base but it’s delicious. The soup is nice and light with a lot of flavor. A little on the saltier side but the noodles are flavorless so they make a great pair. #9 beef udon (regular- hot) This bowl comes with thinly sliced beef and a perfectly soft boiled egg. The soup base tastes meatier and richer than the previous soup. Again, the combination of the noodles and soup is fantastic. And the addition of the meat and egg are just the cherry on top. Tempura: Chicken- This is my favorite! It’s so crunchy on the outside and the meat is so juicy Potato croquette- I don’t know how they managed to make fried mashed potatoes taste so good. The potatoes are well seasoned and the coating is so crispy. Not oily at all. Shrimp- Great shrimp tempura, the panko coating is thin and crunchy. Zucchini- zucchini still retained a lot of moisture and didn’t lose its texture

Santouka Ramen – Menu with Prices – 665 Paularino Ave, Costa Mesa

This ramen spot is located inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace and the parking situation is horrendous on Monday (national holiday). There were so many cars waiting for cars to leave their parking spots and people milling about. Even the parking structure was full. Inside the marketplace, the food court is packed. They have many restaurants, offering sushi, ramen, udon, and more. There are tables and bar seating that were all full, so make sure you secure a table while waiting for your food. Also, they are CASH ONLY. At Hokkaido Ramen, they have 2 main menus: the Ramen menu and the Combination menu. The Ramen menu consists of 4 different soup flavors (Salt, Soy Sauce, Miso, and Spicy Miso) and 3 different ramen styles (Regular, Char Siu (extra pork), and Toroniku (pork cheek)). On the Combination menu, they have the same 4 soup flavors and 6 different combos (comes with rice bowl, ramen & flavored egg). Combo A is the Negi Rice Bowl (green onions, radish sprouts, tofu, bonito, seaweed), Combo B is the Sake & Ikura Rice Bowl (grilled salmon, salmon roe, radish sprouts), Combo C is the Natto Rice Bowl (fermented soy beans, green onions), Combo D is the Char Siu Rice Bowl (char siu, green onions, sesame seeds), Combo E is white rice, and Combo F is the Mentaiko Rice Bowl (spicy cod roe & egg salad). They also offer all the rice bowls as side dishes. Prices depend on the size you order (S, M, L) and the type of combo or soup flavor. What’s nice is that pretty much all the restaurants here have their menu items on display. Santouka is no exception. This is really convenient for comparing portion sizes and what looks appetizing and what doesn’t. We ordered 1 Spicy Miso ramen (medium), 1 D Combo (Spicy Miso ramen + Char Siu rice bowl), 1 F Combo (Spicy Miso ramen + Mentaiko rice bowl), 1 Sake & Ikura Rice Bowl (side dish), and 1 Soy Sauce ramen (medium). Food took about around 30 minutes to arrive. Ramen itself was very delicious. I didn’t think it was spicy at all and although we all ordered medium sizes, it was very filling. Broth is rich, flavorful, and creamy. The char siu is good and tender, but not the best I’ve had (try the perfectly juicy and tender char siu at HiroNori in Irvine). And they give you 2 thin pieces. The rice bowls look small, but are quite a lot, especially if you have ramen as well. They’re all pretty tasty and definitely worth the price if you purchase as a combo. TL;DR: If you’re looking for a good ramen spot with great broth and noodles that overall, hits the spot, come to Santouka. Prices are fair ($10-15 for ramen, $13-17 for combos) and they take cash only. Keep in mind how crowded it gets at Mitsuwa and be expected to wait a while.

Sweet Tomatoes – Menu with Prices – 4928 S Power Rd, Gilbert

I generally love eating here. Their soups are usually pretty good but I don’t know what’s happened lately. Their French Onion soup from last month was nothing but salt. This month the Spicy Sriracha Udon soup is nothing but salt. Extremely salty. No other flavor in the broth could be tasted. This is the worst version of any Udon soup I’ve ever had compared to a Japanese restaurant. Sorry for all the bad news. For the good news, I love the fresh salads and homemade salad dressing. So yummy! Usually pretty good but on certain days they add a little too much salt to the Home Greek Dressing. Soups here are generally awesome in the past!! I would have given them 5-stars on many occasions. I don’t know what’s happened as of late. I hope they get their naturals flavors back.

Happy Sushi – Menu with Prices – 846 S Grand Ave E, Springfield

I was driving around looking for a meal with my girlfriend and i looked and seen this little place. I asked her if she could pull it up on yelp and see it was 4.5 stars so I had to see about it. Came in greeted friendly came to the back (behind kitchen) and i was at a lost for words at the different rolls, sushi, and overall assortment (first time with authentic food) so I went with the heart attack, 2 squid, 2 salmon (sushi) and beef udon. I added some soy sauce (I like a little more flavor in my soup) and I have to say. My new favorite place. And if you’re wondering my girlfriend went with chicken ramen (she loves the stuff) and she was shocked by how good it looked and tasted and said we have to come back. We did get a decent amount of food for the price. And overall it was the bomb. It should most definitely be a 5 star

Rakhapura Mutee and Sushi – Menu with Prices – 25 Grant St, Buffalo

Mutu is the name of one of my cats. I don’t know if Mutu and Sushi would go together very well, but if I had to guess, I’d say the sushi would last about 3 seconds before he’d wolf down the whole lot (despite the fact that he’s a huge gargantuan house-cat rather than a wolf), and that would be that. What to get: The Chicken Soup omg! What else: Wear hot pink shorts when you order, it’s what all the cool people do. I’ve never actually had the “Burmese Sushi” here which we’ve now been told is not Burmese Sushi – such a thing does not exist – but simply Sushi innovated by Burmese people once they arrive in the states, to blend the tastes of Burma with a type of Asian food that is already wildly popular here, mainly with hipsters and/or Alex (the two are mutually exclusive). However the soup is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. Some of the best soup I’ve ever had in fact. Just writing this review and remembering the last time I had it, makes me think that tomorrow will be the day I will rush back down to WSB and slurp it down again and be happy. It’s very cilantro-y and garlic-y and those are two of my favourite -y things. I went back and had the soup again today because I love it so freaking much. So garlicky, so hot, so delicious, so good! I usually take the lime out so it doesn’t get to limey (I’m already limey enough). Also the owner is a wonderful guy to talk to about the world and the lady that is often here is so adorable and lovely and keeps checking up on people who are eating her food to see how it is. I always forget to get this soup and make a bee-line or the amazing sticky rice thing at 007, and the combo at Abyssinia, as well as the insanely good fruit smoothies (order with no milk) at Gourmet Lao. But you know, this soup has a very strong claim for being the best item in the Bazaar. It’s definitely in the conversation. If you haven’t been to the WSB, you are really missing out. If you have, but haven’t tried this soup, then you need to return, like, yesterday. And if you must know, while I was at first thinking about a Rack-a purer thought has now entered my mind. Now I’m going to wander off, mutee-ring to myself about something.

Philip Sushi – Menu with Prices – 9475 Philips Hwy, Jacksonville

New to JAX so I’m not sure how convenient this location is for the people that live here. But Phillip Sushi is a nice pit stop for those who are randomly craving for some sushi along their travels. Loved the soft piano music they play in the background. The interiors of the restaurant are already nice to begin with, so the music adds to the ambiance. The service was quick. Moment I walked in, the host greeted my right away offering me any seat that I would like. I was the only one there, sure, but it was still nice. I ordered the Miso Soup, Fried Crab appetizer, and their version of the dragon roll. All of it was delicious. The Fried crab was crispy and meaty with crab and the dragon roll tasted great. The avocado, the shrimp, the rice, all of it seemed like it was made fresh for me. Sushi places can taste the same after while. Especially when you’ve been a long time fan of it, but this place stands out from the already saturated sushi market.

Rolling Rice – Menu with Prices – 9668 Milliken Ave, Rancho Cucamonga

Had lunch here with a coworker a few days back. Location is pretty tiny, not great for big groups. However, location is clean and well maintained. The location is the type where you order up front and the staff brings you the meal. Food was brought out quickly and correctly. I had Chicken Udon, which was absolutely fantastic, absolutely good bang for the buck. I also got the eggrolls, which tasted very plain and seemed very similar to the stuff you could buy at Trader Joe’s and pan-fry yourself. My coworker bought an assortment of sushi rolls and was greatly disappointed. She thought the crunch rolls were more mushy than crunchy, and that this place did not scratch her itch for sushi at all. I might go back for the Udon or to try the ramen, but maybe avoid the sushi and eggrolls.

Laredo Express Sushi – Menu with Prices – 3302 Cuatro Vientos Dr, Laredo

Great price! The sushi was very good for the best price in town. I had a lot of trouble finding the place because the maps takes you outside of the plaza that is covered by a dead end. Which was very upsetting because I already live very far from this location. The rice was a little too dry almost like eating plastic food. And I was told the other side I believe is a crab salad could have been better as well. Besides that the sushi was delicious
