Is it to crack a cold one with the boys? The Old Boys that is~ In the never-ending pursuit to grab a great cup of boba, my friends and I made our ways to The Old Boys for some lunch and that sweet, sweet nectar of life. The store itself is deceptively spacious and adorned with anime decorations. We were welcomed to seat ourselves and our waitress was attentive and quick to help us out if we needed anything. The menu itself has a wide variety of the traditional Taiwanese fare. You have your beef noodle soups, pork chop rice, and the go to classic of popcorn chicken which is what I opted for. The chicken is nicely seasoned and spiced fairly well where it doesn’t nuke your taste buds for the sake of just being hot. The side of rice has a dollop of minced pork on top that is a great accompaniment to the chicken when you’re a firm believer that “rice is life” much like I am. The vegetables offered on the side were unremarkable and I’d liken it to something from a can whereas the warm celery and tofu “slaw” in a sense wasn’t palatable and came off strange to me due to bitterness from the former of the ingredients. As for a drink, I got their house milk tea just to use as a standardized gauge of tastiness since my friend advised me against their oolong. Unfortunately the drink was lackluster due to wateriness and no discernable taste of tea. RIP my calories I wasted on getting a drink here. The kids are alright, but that’s really all it surmounts to. It’s just alright.

Rollin Fatties – Menu with Prices – 1430 Tulane Ave, New Orleans

Holy mother of burritos! I’ve been deprived of good Mexican food/burritos since I’ve relocated to New York but hot dayuuum, ROLLIN’ FATTIES is on my list of NOLA #GOAT. Rightfully named, these bad boys are FATTIES and stuffed to the max! It’s a miracle they don’t come bursting out of their tortilla wrap. There was just enough pico de gallo without it being too soggy. The seasoned basmati rice was light, soft, and seriously flavorful. The red cabbage slaw had a heavenly pickle and honestly, I couldn’t decide if I liked the rice, slaw, or protein more. The chipoltle cream just tied everything together into a juicy, southern creole Studio 54 dance party that I want to be a part of forever. We ordered the Chipoltle Pulled Chicken and it was succulent and not dry at all. The Pan Seared Tilapia had a nice seafood smell to it and added some extra sweetness to the overall burrito. I can’t decide which I love more! Tips: 1) Check their IG to see if they’re open or not (11am-2pm)! They’re usually around the Tulane Medical Center and they were on Tulane Ave today along with other food trucks! 2) Should you decide to take a burrito en route LANOIA, put this food weapon in its own separate tray because the TSA pulled my bag to the side… It was my questionable item! Burrito blessed in New Orleans. I’ll definitely try the BBQ Tofu Fattie next time and grab the other two as well!

Chinese Sauerkraut Fish – Menu with Prices – 14120 Culver Dr Suite I&J, Irvine

Hands down the best fish soup I’ve ever had in my life. I came here on a Monday at 9 pm and there was only one other table here. We were seated right away and our orders were taken quickly. Overall, service was good. We ordered the crispy pork, rice, black fungus, and the sauerkraut fish for 1-2 ppl. The serving for the sauerkraut fish was HUGE. We added enoki mushrooms to our soup and got the mild spicy. The crispy pork was alright and was your typical crispy pork. The black fungus was great and I loved the taste. Hands down, the winner of the night was the sauerkraut fish. The spicy and sour taste took your taste buds to heaven. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical because I’ve never been a fan of fish, but the fish used in this soap just absorbed the soup flavors and made it taste amazing. It didn’t have that gross fishy flavor that you sometimes taste when fish is bad quality or not cooked well. I highly recommend this place to everyone. I will definitely be going back.

P & Y Cafe Asian Bistro Menu with Prices 2769 S Parker Rd, Aurora

I’ve had jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) my entire life so I’d say I have a pretty good idea of good v. bad noodles. My parents have been eating this dish for a majority of their lives, so a thumbs-up from us means NOM. I think that the jjajangmyun is one of the best I’ve had and would go so far as to say that it’s better than any of the ones I’ve had in Koreatown in LA, in Berkeley, and in Seattle. I don’t know what it is, but it’s delicious without being too salty and too sweet. My mom says that this place is her favorite so I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I also love P&Y’s fried rice. I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS, FOLKS! I eat fried rice all the time, being the Asian that I am, but it is so dang good here. I’m convinced it’s the pork grease, the pork (so tender and juicy!), and the crack. (In my head, I refer to this dish as “crack rice.”) I’m sure someone will eat this and be like, Alice, ‘what’s she smoking?’ And the answer is – nothing! Just high on life… and this rice. But seriously, so good. Sidenote: the fried rice comes with a small bowl of jjajangmyun sauce and a small bowl of jjamppong soup which is the best deal one could hope for. I have also liked their tangsooyook (fried sweet and sour pork (?)) and their Sichuan pork, which is similar to tangsooyook but is spicier. 10/10 recommend.

Dragon Express / Pho Vietnam Express – Menu with Prices – 678 E St, Chula Vista

I was looking for pho in the area and came across this place. The reviews all seem so great so I decided to give it a try. All everyone sayd about this place is that its in a run down ghetto place. Thats definitely not the case. I ordered orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, y eggrolls, and large pho. My total came out to $35 a bit more than what i usually pay at my regular pho place. It was good but it wasnt the best like everyone says. Rice kinda tasted like it had been cooked since the morning and just sitting under heat. Orange chicken was ehh. The egg rolls where good. The pho was a big portion but it wasnt all that tasty it was missing lots of flavor. I was extremely disappointed since I was sick and pho was the only thing I was craving. I dont think i will be giving this place a second chance. I’ll most likely stick to my original pho place even if its a bit further.

MonGa Café Menu with Prices 14603 NE 20th St, Bellevue

The mall area this place is in bad so many places to eat, it was hard to choose! First time eating Taiwanese food. I started freaking out bc there were pigs ears on the menu! I kinda want to try them. So many mixed feelings. Thanks to Yelp tips, we were able to order without too much trepidation even though the menu doesn’t have pictures or a lot of detail- pretty intimidating. We ordered the Combo #1 with the pork over rice, soup, and cabbage and cucumber sides. The cabbage was SO good, I love cooked cabbage a la st Patrick’s day corned beef and cabbage, it was very similar… a little sweet. The cucumbers were marinated in a rice vinegar and sugar, the pork was fatty over rice and oh so delicious. Nice variety of flavors. The soup was cloudy… off putting to me but it tasted like egg flower soup. May have been the color that made it seem starchy. The light color pork ball in it wasn’t appetizing so I didn’t eat it. Tried the fried chicken leg which tasted like turkey. It had a duck spice flavor. It was delicious, the fried skin was so crispy. I was suspicious bc it seemed too big for a chicken but they reassured me it was indeed chicken. The pork bun sandwich was okay. Filling bc the dice was large but the pickled veggies were just too different looking for my taste. I’d like something crispier in there as the veggies were a little soft. Here it comes… the spicy won ton side was AMAZING. I thought they’d be fried but they came in a spicy peanut sauce broth that was so flavorful I wanted to bring it home so I could dip crusty bread it in it. I’ll come back here and try one of their interesting shaved ice deserts. I’d recommend that all workers here even bud boys wear the same shirt or an apron bc someone asked if he could clear the table and I thought it was a random guy from off the street. The restaurant is large and cleanly decorated with a modern look. I like the black and white pictures on the wall

Taste of Tian Jin – Menu with Prices – 3875 Venture Dr A5, Duluth

Taste of Tianjin is located inside the Jusgo Supermarket food court. This food court stall serves all sorts of Chinese cuisine with a presumed specialty in the Tianjin cuisine of northeast China. Tianjin is a major port city and some of its well-known dishes incorporate seafood, lamb, and mutton. I tried a few non-Tianjin dishes from this restaurant, so this review probably doesn’t reflect the best this place has to offer. Taste of Tianjin has one of the larger menus among the stalls at the food court. Along with Tianjin cuisine, the restaurant also serves a variety of other regional Chinese cuisines including Cantonese, Shanghai (Jiangnan), Sichuan, and even Americanized Chinese cuisine. Chef recommendations include braised whole fish in chili oil ($10.95), Tianjin-style braised pork ($10.95), braised ribbonfish ($10.95), egg with tomato ($6.95), and spicy fried intestine ($8.95). There are a lot of options. Like other Asian food court stalls (particularly Chinese ones), Taste of Tianjin has pictures of several of its dishes, many of which are included in a picture book next to the register. I tried an order of the xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), mapo tofu ($7.50), and chicken with plum sauce ($7.50). Eight medium to large sized dumplings were served in a wooden steam basket along with a side of vinegar dipping sauce in a disposable foam bowl. The dumplings were OK at best. They weren’t very soupy (they had very little soup in them), but were packed with pork. These were more like pork dumplings than anything. The skin was thick. While not terrible, I questioned the freshness of these dumplings. The sauce was alright. The man behind the counter said he made it himself. The mapo tofu (Sichuan dish) was good, but it could’ve used a bit more flavor and spice. Along with soft tofu cubes and a small pool of spicy, red, oily sauce, this dish came with savory ground pork, chopped green onion, red chili peppers, and yummingly numbing Sichuan peppercorns. The ingredients in this dish were good quality. We dined in and the tofu was served on a glass plate/bowl. The chicken with plum sauce was tasty, but rather pedestrian (no surprise there). The chicken was chopped and cooked with chopped carrots, zucchini, and green bell pepper. It had decent flavor. This is a simple dish that should satisfy the simplest of palates. Bowls of steamed white rice were included with the meal. Service was good and our orders came out in a reasonable amount of time. Like other vendors at the Jusgo food court, Taste of Tianjin uses a pager system to let you know when your order is ready for pickup. Complimentary tea, water, plastic silverware, wooden chopsticks, and condiments are available at the counter. If dining in, you should return plates, bowls, and trays when you’re finished. The credit card minimum is $10. I’d like to come back and try what I hope are better dishes.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 509 S Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank

I am a big fan of Fried Chicken, so when I heard about this hot and spicy fried chicken, I had to have it. I was reading all the reviews about Gus’ and was hoping that it would live up to the hype. I must say the reviews are right, Gus’ is excellent fried chicken!! The only thing I was a little disappointed with were the Collard Greens, expected a lot more flavor from a Restaurant that’s roots are from the South. But still overall highly recommended based on what we got below. We started with an order of Fried Pickles, then we got two 3 piece dark meals with the standard Cole Slaw and Baked Beans, Sweet Tea and an Unsweetened Tea. The Sweet Tea tastes almost like I remember living in North Carolina, very sweet and delicious. We also got 2 kids meals with Chicken Legs and Fries. The kids meal includes a drink as well, they for Lemonade, very sweet. Also gave the Collard Greens a shot. The Fried Pickles were very good, great flavor, a bit on the expensive side, $6 for 6 small pieces. CAUTION: These are extremely hot (heat wise) be careful not to burn your mouth. The chicken is so flavorful, perfect amount of spice, gives you a little kick of spice, but not over powering. It is very juicy, not greasy at all, lightly breaded, some of the best Fried Chicken I have had for a long time. The sides were also very good, Fries were very tasty and the Baked Beans and Cole Slaw were excellent. I updated my review up to 5-Stars, this is the best chicken! Even though it is on the expensive side, the chicken out weighs the cost. I had knocked it down previously to 4 stars due to the price. I still feel it is on the expensive side. 4 of us for lunch, (2 kids, 2 adults) $89.00, W/tax and tip. I will definitely be going back soon though. Enjoy!

Bourbon Street Grill – Menu with Prices – 3661 Eisenhower Pkwy, Macon

Despite the name, this place is more of a Chinese restaurant rather than a Cajun restaurant. You see this trend a lot in malls across America. Don’t expect to find jambalaya, po boys, gumbo, or muffaleta. Instead, expect fried rice and lemon chicken. Even the namesake Bourbon Chicken is of Chinese-American origin. They give you a fortune cookie too with your meals. Their bourbon chicken is delicious. It actually has the grilled taste, and is marinated/cooked in a sweet and salty sauce. Their vegetables are also light and healthy-tasting, not too heavy. Their lemon chicken is fried, crispy, and tossed in a sweet tangy sauce. They let you sample before you purchase. Staff is friendly.

VO’s Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 9131 -51 Garden Grove Boulevard, Garden Grove

Still a winner in my book Somewhat far direction for banh mi when there’s so many choices in the area, but this place makes my heart happy – fried tofu with lemongrass banh mi is bombdotcom I come here when I’m lazy to drive to lb for vegetarian food lol so freaking flavorful – meatball (banh mi xiu mai) is chockfull of little porky tomatoey slightly sweet and savory morsels Recently tried their salted fish fried rice Flavor is down, but I prefer my rice slightly drier to attain that chewy texture. Plenty shareable as this fed two ppl from one Togo box Another roasted chicken dish with rice was quite yummy and homey Their sticky rice selection looks damn good – roasted chicken with pork floss – BBQ pork looks scrumptious, haven’t seen that one before – another chicken one that escapes my mind They tend to be heavy handed on the mayo/pate, so I always tend to ask them to lessen it in addition to pulling out the doughy part of the bread (so I don’t get food coma lol) Nice service as always One thing though, when I went at 930am on a weekday my bread was more floppy than crusty…

?ì???ë?¤ Ianâ??s Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 40-17 150th St, Flushing

What a pleasant surprise! I pass by this place everytime I take LIRR but haven’t had a chance to try. The place is very small so I was skeptical at first, but I decided to be adventurous. I ordered chicken + roast pork belly combo. The combo came with generous amount of sliced pork belly, an order of fried chicken, ddukbokki (spicy rice cake), french fries, vegetables and a sauce for pork belly (to make wraps), 3 sauces for fried chicken. The pork belly was slow cooked in a rotating roaster, and it was juicy, soft and flavorful. Usually the Bossam (pork belly served with veges to make wraps) is served with steamed pork which tend to lack flavor. Not this one. I didn’t know slow roasting pork could bring out such flavor. Chicken was still crispy despite being in a container for 30 minutes. I don’t think the chicken was flavored and yet, it had enough flavor. Crispy outside and soft inside. I tried the 3 sauce it came with and two of them paired really well with the chicken! I should have asked the names of each sauce. Ddukbboki (spicy rice cake) was reasonably sweet and spicy, well balanced. French fries got soggy from being in the container for 30 min so didn’t try it yet. Throw it in the oven for 15 min and it will come back to life. Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. If you are digging chicken with something else ( they have roasted pork belly and sliced pork feet option), you should definitely try this place. You will be surprised. Will definitely come back.

More Life Cafe – Menu with Prices – 191 Mallory Ave, Jersey City

***100 PERECENT VEGAN*** A vegan spot that’s in an unassuming area of Jersey City? Really, it’s not Downtown?? Not glamorous by any means? Not well known (yet)? But still incredible enough to rank 5 stars on Yelp? YES SIR, BELIEVE THE HYPE MY YELPEEZ I’m playing hype sheep today So let’s brag bout it baby… ? NOTED: *=**=*=*= This is a quintessential way to bring wholesome eating to a community. The idea of health cafes popping up practically in your back yard gives the community a chance to try something new other than the frequently visited chain restaurants feeding you more or less the same types of food. Vegan life is a more than a trend and More Life Cafe is serving it up BAD ASS STYLE. THE MENU *=*=*=*=*= The buffet style menu is eclectic from stir-friy style , salads, rice , beans quesadillas, burgers , and everything in between. THE GRUB: *=*=*=*=*= I had the bbq jackfruit sliders. My attitude and appetite opened up on contact. Lord this was some good grub. Comfort food w a healthy kick. I was Loving it. 2 slider portions accompanied with some cole slaw came through on the tangy, sweet side. Flavor was mouth tongue enticing. 5/5 -Presentation was basic ,but who cares when the food made up for that. -My bf had the chicken quesadillas and of course I snagged a bite. I must say we were both impressed. Especially my bf who never had any subsitutes for meat or dairy before. The vegan cheese used was superb and extra melted. The tofu( chicken) texture identical to real chicken. You can’t lose with that kind of delivery. 5/5 THE JUICE *=*=*=*=*=* The juices were refreshing and on the lemony side of green. I had the number 1 and my boyfriend had the number 4. Exactly the taste we were going for. 5/5 SERVICE: *=*=*=*=* The (manager) at the front register was really courteous and helped us choose our meals. He offered to let’s us try the Philly Cheese Steak sample ,but they didn’t have any made at the moment. Maybe next time . 5/5 VERDICT: *=*=*=**= I was able to combat my fatigue with something so yummy yet healthy and that’s worth coming back over and over again. I can see this place picking up pace, extending their menu and thriving in community.

Bay House Bistro – Menu with Prices – 574 Bay St, Staten Island

So because my friend loves the beef and broccoli from this restaurant I decided to come with her. I ordered the lunch special chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice, the chicken was like rubber which could not be chewed. The waiter was attentive and said he would make me a fresh portion of the chicken. The pork fried rice was very good as well as the egg roll the lunch special came with. Sadly the new portion of chicken was also like rubber. 2 days later I decided to give it another try and ordered sweet and sour chicken I was surprised to see the chicken covered in sauce considering most places put it on the side. No big deal since it was much better than the chicken with broccoli option. Very nice staff seems empty to dine it but many take out orders for delivery.
