I’ve loved Petee’s Pies for years. Her pies are about as good as pies get, so I could barely contain my excitement when: 1. They opened up in Brooklyn. 2. I got to meet Petee. I was a little blinded by her celebrity; I’m sure she gets a little annoyed by the paparazzi constantly following her everywhere, and superfans like myself bugging her when we catch her in front of her new cafe here (a very cute spot that will be getting alcohol eventually, and has an adorable backyard). But I couldn’t help it. I had to tell Petee all about how we’re pie people. How I get her pies for birthdays and parties. How we had pie at our wedding, because fuck cake. And she said, “Team Pie!” You’re goddamn right, Petee. I’m on Team Pie, and you’re our captain. O Captain, My captain, I want to jump up on a desk like Robin Williams and tell you that I love the wild blueberry, the sour cherry, and the strawberry rhubarb (your manager Morgan’s favorite, evidently, and he has good taste). The banana cream pie will make my wife love me again when I’ve done something stupid, and everyone seems to love the salty chocolate chess, even though chocolate desserts are not as good as fruity desserts. Basically, it doesn’t matter what pie you get from Petee, because it’s always going to be such great pie. Team Pie.

Gardner Pie Co Menu with Prices 191 Logan Pkwy, Akron

What are Americans’ favorite pies? Apple takes, ah, the cake I believe, beyond that all pies are created equal unless it’s a chocolate pie because that’s my favorite late night pie hmmm that’s unless it’s a holiday then it could be pumpkin in the No. 2 spot, while cherry places third, unless my mom brought over a pecan pie of course. One of the most common questions asked after opening the refrigerator is “What kind of person eats the last piece of pie” – well I have to admit I am that kind of person and I’ve never had any regret or remorse, but I do counter that with what kind of person would leave the last piece of pie – in my opinion a single slice of pie should never be saved for later. Well if you live anywhere in the vicinity of a “pie factory” those are issues that you should never have to deal with. Ok first of all I don’t know anyone who has ever told me “I grew up next door to a pie factory” that would just seem too unbelievable, after coming here now I know for a fact there are people who live next door to a pie factory and who are within walking distance to fresh pies 24/7, now wait a minute I understand the public can’t access pies here around the clock but certainly if I lived next door I would know someone who works here and hopefully they could hook me up after hours if I had a pie emergency. Any description one conjures up here doesn’t do this place justice, when I walked in the door I saw fresh baked pies everywhere and if it wasn’t a pie it was something that has something to do with pies. The two young ladies working the retail store in front of this production facility must have been hand picked out of scores of applications because the customer service here is amazing, although I’d rather be shoveling pies in the back than dealing with the lines of people upfront especially when the last of their favorite pie is sold out just before they make it to the counter to place their order. I am sure it’s possible for this place to run out of some types of pies but it’s highly unlikely with that being said that the person would walk out without a different kind because everyone has a second favorite pie and probably a third and fourth favorite as well. I will tell you there is a lot of pressure to make a decision when it’s your turn, so read the menu board ahead of time and be prepared. I started with an apple then added two strawberry / rhubarb and decided to get a cherry and since it is only a few miles from the office I figured I could come back if necessary. They also have creme pies, frozen pies, and even savory pies I’m sure they have something you will like as well, they may even have Boston Creme Pie although that’s really cake isn’t it….

Dolci Pastries & Confections, Inc. – Menu with Prices – 936 Exchange St Unit B-111, Rochester

If you’re looking for excellent food and desserts of all kinds that personally cater to any of your allergy or food preferences this is your place to go. I’ve tried everything from the pizza to the cookies to the calzones to the sweet potato pie to the chicken fried rice to the strawberry rhubarb crostata (which is my favorite) and everything has exceeded my standards and left me yearning for more. I’ve enjoyed the familiar food flavor combos like strawberry-rhubarb or the best lemonade I’ve had, all the way to more unique combos such as her s’mores and birthday cake frappes or the fig and caramelized onion crustadas w/goat cheese. No matter what I’ve tried, Dolci Pastries & Confections never let’s me down!

85C Bakery Café | Arden Fair Mall – Menu with Prices – 1689 Arden Way #1186, Sacramento

Eighty Five Degree Celsius, Sacramento California- Okay, so visiting Sacramento and it’s after 9pm and looking for dessert to fill in the empty spots dinner didn’t cover. Narrowed the choices down to three, but ended up with 85 Bakery Cafe because of the variety of cake by the slice. So yeah, 85 is a chain. That could be bad, or it could be good. I generally prefer small local places that really put out the local flavor and extra effort and love. But having said that, there’s something to be said about a chain IF…IF they make across the board consistent products no matter which store you walk into. (For example, I feel that Starbucks pulls that off quite well, and will often add a unique regional special for the area) So the store appeared to be very clean and bright and was moderately busy at 9pm. So far good signs! The counter staff appeared to be in the process of taking down some of the displays for closing (not a problem) but when asked cheerfully said they were not closing and staying to dine was just perfect! There was a boatload of various desserts in the tall bakery cases. Of course everything looked good. It was offered by the slice or whole cakes and pies. Staff was super cheerful and welcoming and helpful. When asked, we got a basic rundown of fan favorites and personal favorites and notes about what was enjoyed about each. Soo cool!! So I wanted to try a slice of cake…..and ended up wit the following: Black Forrest cake Blueberry cheesecake Strawberry Creme cake Mango Brûlée cake Okay, so maybe the lines between ONE slice and FOUR slices got….um…..blurry? LOL. Here is a brief rundown of my tasting notes for each.. Black Forrest- a classic chocolate cake with signature shaved chocolate curls on top, chocolate cream layers and cherry filling. This slice was moist, bouncy (a good cake trait) and creamy. Now I would like to say it was “chocolaty”…but it was sadly overpowered by the cherry flavor. Big canned sugar syrup cherry bomb flavor. So it was GOOD, but for me it was not great. And for me it missed the mark compared to what I was hoping for in its namesake. Blueberry cheesecake- Rich, smooth creamy bold mouth feel. Good sweet cheesecake flavor and fresh blueberry flavor. Light crust that bound the flavors and textures well. This was well done! Strawberry Creme- This one was big on “artificial” strawberry flavor, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. At least not to me. Picture if that “Frankenberry” cereal favorite was a cake, and this would be it! Big and bold sweet “fakeberry ” flavor, which I actually really really enjoy! Plain whipped cream layered to separate flavor and color. I really enjoyed this. This and milk, a winning team! Mango Brûlée- Okay, so you had me at “MANGO!” And add brûlée? Yeah! This light and bouncy Creme cake was HUGE on mango flavor! Not sure about Brûlée… because there was no evidence of torching. But still, a five star cake for me! Lusciously bold fresh mango flavor and a texture I would describe as “ribbony” when it comes to the interplay of fruit, cream and cake! This one I rate a “BAZINGA!” Now if you’ve never been to one of these before, standby for what might seem like sticker shock. I soothe this by telling myself that a slice can go a long way, so share the dessert..and the bill! Thank you 85C! You’re just what we needed for that “after 9” sugar rush!

Peggy Jean’s Pies – Menu with Prices – 503 E Nifong Blvd, Columbia

Let me start by saying that Iâ??m generally not a big fan of sweets at all. I also donâ??t generally review places online. But I wanted to make certain to review Peggy Jeanâ??s Pies because you canâ??t miss out on this place. Needless to say, the pie is phenomenal and the staff is eqaually excellent – very friendly and helpful. My favorite pies right now are the coconut cream pie and the white chocolate strawberry but Iâ??ve yet to try the other ones. I love banana cream pie so Iâ??m excited to try theirs. Also, the blueberry streusel is heavenly. My only gripe with Peggy Jeanâ??s is their location – wayyy too close to my apartment and so tempting. ð???ð??

Southern Baked Pie Company | Mail Order and Georgia Pie Shops Menu with Prices suite 165, 3145 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta

Got three mini pies from here, the cherry hand pie, apple pie, and buttermilk pie for $4.5 each. Pies were about four in across, crust was not super flaky but not hard, very buttery, with a light sprinkling of sugar on top. Pies were pretty good. My favorite were in order the apple pie, the cherry pie, and the buttermilk pie. The apple has really small pieces of apple packed super tightly. It was the biggest in size out of all the hand pies, not too sweet, not a lot of syrup inside, but great apple flavor. Cherry pie was pretty good, had much fewer cherries. Buttermilk pie was a little disappointing. The flavor was ok but the texture was kind like cottage cheese? It was pretty offputting, I was hoping for a thicker, firmer texture. Overall I would go again because they are better than costco pies haha. The shop is located in a plaza in buckead. Google maps has a really hard time navigating there for some reason so you’ll have to look at it’s actual geographic location. Shop smells literally like butter and sugar when you walk in and the staff is very friendly. I would like to try their savory pies some time as well.

Came here for a corporate team building experience, it was great!! You can tell they’re so passionate about their chocolate and incredibly humble. It was an absolute pleasure to be hosted here, we learned about the origins of chocolate, sampled some items and had an opportunity to actually make our own chocolate!! The team building exercise was fantastic, you can observe leaders come out in the team, see how well each person takes direction, overall very very happy. They have such positive energy & we couldn’t help but smile & enjoy our time here. Not to mention the chocolate itself is absolutely delicious!! You can taste the care and love made into these creations.

Gilman Brewing Company Menu with Prices 912 Gilman St, Berkeley

First, a heads-up for City and Peninsula Yelpers: Gilman’s Daly City satellite taproom is opening soon. It will be at 2001 Junipero Serra Blvd., next to the Century Theater, and a short walk from Daly City BART. Be there or be elsewhere! Now, the flight from my current visit to the original Berkeley brewpub and production facility: – GT’s Cannabliss Kombucha. 0% ABV. Well, ordinarily I wouldn’t be much interested in a kombucha, especially one free of the Demon Alcohol, but I needed a sixth item to fill out my flight. Hazy gold; cream halo head. Sharp ginger-grapefruit nose. Taste is dominated by ginger, with a bit of sting on the tongue, balanced against a sweet base. Despite the name, I doubt I would have known that there’s anything hemp-based in its ancestry. – Hot Carl Hazy IPA. 7.7%. Slightly hazy gold; white halo-and-patches head, lacing the glass. Mild hoppy nose. Hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe. Dank, with bitterness in the finish. – Plum Champ Saison. 6.0%. Near-clear copper-red; minimal white head. Weak, indistinctly-fruity nose. Sweet and a bit tart, with a hint of antihistamine. I don’t think I’d have specifically picked out the fruit note as plum. – Strawberry Champ Strawberry-Rhubarb Saison. 6.0%. Slightly hazy gold; cream halo-and-patches head. Distinct strawberry nose and taste. I’m not sure what the rhubarb contributes to it; but then, rhubarb can taste like strawberry anyway. Anyway, a good summery refresher. – La Ferme d’Or Golden Belgian Saison Fermented with Brett. 6.0%. Clear brilliant gold; white halo-and-patches head. Subtle pear nose. Overwhelming Brettanomyces horse-blanket funk is the first rather unpleasant impression; fortunately I had been watching the Royal Ascot on TV this morning, and was somewhat attuned to horses. Get past that, and there’s a soft fruitiness, with a dry finish. – La Ferme Rouge Saison. 5.8%. A pretty ruby red; minimal white head. Primary fermentation with 100% Brettanomyces; secondary fermentation on tart cherries. Sour cherry nose. No noticeable Brett funk; it’s cherries all the way down.

Beau Bien Fine Foods – Menu with Prices – 2478 Riopelle St, Detroit

I’ve been obsessed with Beau Bien’s Roasted Strawberry Rhubarb Preserves for years. Every time I came to Detroit, I made sure to go to Eastern Market to seek them out. It is AMAZING. Now that I’m lucky enough to live in metro Detroit, and Beau Bien’s store on Riopelle is 10 minutes away from work, I can enjoy their delicious lunches. The shop is absolutely perfect. The minimalist design and displays draw the eye to the product perfectly. The owner is super friendly and invited me to simply call if I wanted to know what deliciousness they would be having each day. My goal this summer is to try everything they make. The combinations of flavors sound amazing and they’re all very unique. Of course, is be devastated if they phased out the Roasted Strawberry Rhubarb Preserves but I’m sure I’ll find new favorites to add. I also use the empty jars as votive holders in my kitchen, I love the look of the label so much. Beau Bien Fine Foods is a true gem in Detroit’s Eastern Market.

Uncle Calvin’s Sweet Potato Pies – Menu with Prices – 18095 Shields St, Detroit

Have visited Sister Pie on a number of occasions; taken out of towners there, attended a Pie making class, travelled an hour just to try a quirky new flavor and pre-ordered pies for our housewarming and Thanksgiving.I love the community feel of this small Detroit bakery, you can really feel itâ??s a business that has heart. Everything we have eaten here has tasted delicious – there is a Pie menu of 4 flavors, based on local, seasonally available produce to enjoy at the communal table by the slice (with whipped cream if youâ??re feeling decadent) or to take out while or by the slice. Then thereâ??s an amazing selection of goodies available in the pastry case – uniquely flavoured cookies, brownies, scones, macaroons and small savory pies, to name but a few things. Items of note in my humble opinion are the Sour Cherry Bourbon Pie, Ginger Peach Pie, Chocolate Coconut Pie, Salty Malty Scones, Rosemary Shortbread, Fennel Snickerdoodle Cookies ….. actually, I could go on and on!!Breakfast galettes are available for early risers; salad or soup at lunch to supplement your sweet treat. The atmosphere is great, as the team of women that work here prepare the next dayâ??s bakes in the open kitchen. Itâ??s cosy, casual and continues to delight each time we visit. Very excited to see the Sister Pie cook book launch this week and watch where this business goes from here. Donâ??t all go at once, please…. and if you do, leave me a coconut sesame macaroon on the counter!

frutissia ice cream – Menu with Prices – 3643 NE 25th St, Ocala

I tried the strawberry ice cream and my husband had a chocolate one, at the 1 Million Cups presentation today. The strawberry was as fresh tasting as a just picked strawberry, and the chocolate was excellent, too. It even had chocolate chips in it, which was a nice surprise. Far better than any of the ice creams you find in the supermarket, with many more varieties.

Donut Palace – Menu with Prices – 1605 W Buckingham Rd, Garland

Nothing fancy but a great little donut shop with many choices of both savory and sweet items. I have tried their blueberry cake donut, chocolate cake donut, another donut that had fresh strawberries in the icing and some kind of bacon croissant thing and all were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by how cheap they were a well. Definitely my go to donut shop ? P.S I wouldn’t get the cherry donut again just because it had so much food coloring to get that red and cherry flavor reminds me of medicine.

Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop – Menu with Prices – 5355 Dallas Pkwy suite 610, Frisco

Well I heard there was a new dessert place in town and i immediately had to go try it. The first thing i noticed walking up is that they are open from 10Am to 7PM daily and closed Sundays and i thought to my self how do you run over here for a pie after dinner out in the evening? The important thing to know is the format of the store is like Anything Bundt Cakes as compared to Emporium Pies. So they are more to go than to eat their like a cafe. I was greeted right away and shown around the store. She explained all the pies and options and was very helpful! I bought 4 of the small pies and got the dozen mini trial size pies. The mini pie sampler was a great way to try all the pies. In the small pies i got the Lemon Ice, Chocolate and the season Peach Pie. I read a few of the other reviews before i went and read that some people didn’t love the pie crust. Im more in their camp. It isn’t a bad pie crust but it isn’t a flaky crust that browns in the oven. So i have had other small pie crusts i liked better. The mini pie samplers end up with a lot of crust compared to filling. My favorites were the Chocolate and Key Lime because they didnt have the crust. The other pies were good but just not a lot of filling so you tasted more crust so the Pecan pie would be very good in the bigger size. The Chocolate and Lemon Ice in the small size pie were very good. I liked the Peach Pie as well but have had others i liked better. Everyone has slightly different tastes so you definitely go try them out!
