Savory and spice and everything nice here at Sipan Bakery! When I first drove by, I saw “bakery” and stopped by to pick up a sweet treat. What I found instead was one of the most delicious Middle Eastern bakeries serving mostly baked savory goodies made fresh at this location. My go to is the Mushroom Beoreks ($2.00) and the Spinach Beoreks ($2.25). Each of these doughy pockets is filled with the ingredients (vegan friendly) and baked until golden brown. They are a delicious snack and freeze well. Another one of my favorites is the Zahtar Maneish ($2.00) and Lahmajune ($2.00). The Zahtar had a heavy thyme, sumac and sesame flavoring. So much flavor with each bite! The Lahmajune reminded me of a Middle Eastern thin crust pizza and I thoroughly enjoyed while it was prepared fresh. I have brought these as gifts and my guests have raved over them. If you never been to a Middle Eastern Bakery, this would be a perfect choice with all the home made selection including wraps, paninis, a twist on tacos and salads. They are located in a small strip mall and open 7 days a week. The owner is extremely friendly and went out of his way to complete my order even though they were out of stock. As for sweets, you’ll have to keep on looking, but for savory this hits the spot.

Sahara Mediterranean Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3061 Fieldstone Way, Lexington

I had been to this shopping area where this restaurant is located several times, but had never noticed the restaurant. It was recommended by a friend, and so I went there for lunch, There was a line to get in the door (this was shortly after noon), but it moved quickly, and the staff were extremely efficient in taking and filling orders. This was some of the best Middle Eastern food I have ever had. Their $6.99 lunch special was a huge, delicious meal, including choice of entrée (I had the best chicken shwarma) , rice, Greek salad, hummus, and a giant tender pita bread. There is a shop next door selling halal meats and ingredients for Middle Eastern food. Tragically, this restaurant will close for the summer in a few days. I hope to make another visit before that happens, maybe to bring home one of the big family-style take out meals they offer.

Palm Tree Market – Menu with Prices – 2702 Parade St, Erie

Tons of spices to paw through! Many exotic ingredients and traditional Middle Eastern products. They have a small cafe in the back that features a deli with baked goods and such. I literally was not only the only non-eastern but the only girl as well, but don’t be put off by that, its worth it! I had the falafel ‘sandwich’, which is served on a fresh baked pita with pickled radishes, yellow bell pepper and some chopped iceberg with a tangy yogurt dressing. Expect to wait at least 15 minutes, because they take the time to do it the right way. It was pretty much the best felafel I’ve ever had in Erie. Better still, it was only 3.50$. Had some delicious turkish delight and the store owner/front end guy was very nice too.

Lahmajune Factory – Menu with Prices – 1139 E Broadway, Glendale

I have been here a few times and have enjoyed it each time, with a few things they can improve on. The service is great. The staff is very friendly and always offer to heat it up if I’d like to eat it there. They have a variety of options available. I always get the Lahmajune and the Borek. The Lahmajune can be a hit or miss as sometimes it’s really good but sometimes the flavor balance seems off. I have always enjoyed the borek. One thing that can be improved is covering the food or keeping it somewhere it can stay fresh. The borek and other bread is left out for display, but I don’t know how long it has been sitting there and there was one time I saw a fly flying around and landing on the food. It didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth to see them take borek that I ordered and put it in a bag for me. Another thing that can be improved is the temperature. I asked to heat up the borek since I was taking it to go but eating it right away, but when I took a bite into the borek it was still a little cold. Overall, it is still my go-to Lahmajune and borek spot as the food is generally good, and it is also convenient location-wise. It would be an amazing spot if what was mentioned above were improved.

Mediterranean Roots Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4200 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake

Eh ok. If you have ever had middle eastern food this place doesn?t have much flavor. I had the shawarma and even though the chicken does have good flavor I didn?t think it had enough flare! They use hummus not garlic sauce. I put my French fries in it too but still not up to my standards. The guy at the counter was an amazing guy and I feel bad saying it was just ok because he was so friendly and lively!! He is trying to redo their menu and shows initiative so maybe they will add some garlic sauce in and it would be soooo amazing!! The lemonade is fresh and very good! I wish I could?ve given it more stars but I have had other middle eastern food and this just was not as good. Not bad but not as good.

Siraj Bakery & Grill – Menu with Prices – 3700 S Waverly Rd Ste. E, Lansing

I’ve been coming here since it opened a year or so ago. This is some of the best middle eastern I’ve had other than when we go to Dearborn. It’s truly authentic and the owner is super friendly and always gives me a falafel ball while I wait for my food. Although it’s in a sketchy strip mall on Waverly rd. Means nothing as the food is what it’s all about. I’ve raved to everyone I know about this place and now on here. If you are a lover of this type of food I explore you to come here. It’s not a sit down and eat type of place, just a order and take out so fo not load a group up and think your going to be able to sit and eat. Great food!

Addeo Bakery – Menu with Prices – 2352 Arthur Ave, The Bronx

Small bakery in the Bronx. We read reviews for the bakeries in the area and it seemed like this might be the best one to pick up some bread for dinner. My inlaws love fresh bread and cheese and I knew they would appreciate good fresh baked bread. When you look in the window you see a bunch of different loaves of bread. It makes it hard to choose. We went with three. They are all so delicious. Like seriously some of the best bread I have ever eaten. I wasn’t alone, my wife’s whole family loved this bread and raved about it. I have only eaten them with butter but I intend on making garlic bread with one loaf and grilled cheeses and French toast tomorrow with the leftover bread. The lady working inside was super nice. I asked her for a recommendation and she showed me what most people buy there. It was one of the three that I was selecting. This place is a must if you are in the area and are looking for killer Italian bread. All three loaves cost $10 which was totally worth it. The loaves of bread are really big. This bakery also smells amazing. There is metered parking all around so your best bet is to drive up to the bakery and just look for parking.

La Creacion Bakery – Menu with Prices – 11258 W Hillsborough Ave, Tampa

Came across this bakery when I tried out the LA fitness in the same shopping center. I love that it’s locally owned and is not your average bakery. Lots of new Puerto Rican pastries to try and they are all so fresh. I decided to go for the first time on Father’s Day. My husband loves cafe con leche and any chocolate pastry. My son loves anything chocolate (shocker). We chose from a large selection. I read reviews and had to try the quesito, since it’s a known Puerto Rican pastry. I have never had one, to the point where I had to ask which one was a quesito, newbie alert! Trying it for the first time I thought it was delicious and will definitely get another one again. Not too sweet but just enough. My husband raved that his donut was so fresh. And my son was surprised and excited to eat the m&m donut. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I had a huge mishap where my toddler would not cooperate which led to me spilling my whole cafe con leche on the sidewalk. I came back in to order another – willing to pay (gotta support small businesses), but the owner refused and gave me another one on the house. So thankful! The staff immediately cleaned up “mommy’s big mess” and we were on our way for the second time. I loved this bakery and will definitely be back and recommend to friends!

Falafel-N-Load – Menu with Prices – 1415 N New Rd, Waco

I stayed in Waco for a month for an external rotation for my school. I searched places to eat and looked up everywhere for some good Middle Eastern food until I came across this place. I went on a Sunday night and met the two owners and they were really nice. They had recently opened their food truck and next to it they built a cool little hookah bar named Shiaha Cafe. I love hookah and I know a lot about Middle eastern food and hookah. I ordered the Kabob sandwich and an Al Fakhir hookah with watermelon/peach flavor. The food was really tasty and fresh. The French Frieda were crispy the sandwich was delicious. On top of that the hookah and the service was 5 star! I loved it so much that I went there a couple of more times and every time I went received great service. I definitely recommend this place.

sham sweets – Menu with Prices – 1327 Fulton Ave, Sacramento

Being Lebanese, I love coming across places that offer Middle Eastern food, desserts, and anything that reminds me of the culture! I stumbled across Sham Sweets and decided to give it a try. I was greeted by Ayman, the owner. They have plenty of desserts from baklava to knefe to booza! If you know what booza is, you know how hard it is to resist! Booza is a Lebanese ice cream. It’s known for being thick, rich, and super stretchy! The only flavor they have here is a Ashta/Pistachio flavor. Luckily, that’s my favorite one! I ordered a Small Cup to try it out. It was ~$5. It was delicious and reminded me a lot of the authentic booza I’ve had in Lebanon. There was almost too much pistachios and not enough actual booza, in my opinion, but it still had a great flavor! I loved getting a small piece of Lebanon in this dessert and the Kashta/Pistachio booza was a solid choice. However, for ~$5, I definitely expect more of it since it did seem a bit overpriced. I would probably come back to check out their other menu options! I definitely recommend swinging by for some authentic Middle Eastern desserts if you’re in the area.

Savory Bake House – Menu with Prices – 3008 36th Ave S, Minneapolis

Come here for unique, flavorful baked goods. I usually stop in on Sunday mornings when I am in the area and whenever I go I find something new and completely unique to this bakery. Everything I have tried has been great, but I especially love all of their savory baked goods. However do not make the mistake of coming here late in the day. I have arrived to find most of the goods picked over and I once even found the shop closed because they were all sold out! Also, do not expect to come here, sit down with a cup of coffee and your baked goods while watching the world go by. There is nowhere to sit in the tiny shop so you’ll have to take your baked goods elsewhere! Definitely put this small bakeshop on your bucket list!

Petra Grill – Menu with Prices – 1335 W Elizabeth St, Fort Collins

Dining at Petra Grill was quite an authentic experience and we will definitely return soon to enjoy such delectable Middle Eastern cuisine! We were passing through Fort Collins after a day of traveling and stumbled upon Petra Grill on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try and I am glad we did! The food was served promptly, the presentation of each dish was done with great attention to detail, and the exceptional quality of ingredients, coupled with a talented chef, provided for the perfect dish. This is a family run restaurant and you can tell immediately that they are a family passionate about what they do. All the dishes tasted great, the yogurt was absolutely incredible, the shawarma was delicious, the za’atar & olive oil mix is second to none, and the experience was authentic. If you are looking to experience genuine Middle Eastern cuisine in FoCo, this is your place. I highly recommend Petra Grill!
