We came here for lunch. We ordered right away. My Mom and I split their bibimbap. My Brother got their teriyaki beef bowl. My Dad got their shrimp curry. My Brother and I got a bottle of Dr. Pepper to drink. My parents just got some cups for water. At first all the seats inside were taken. There aren’t that many seats inside maybe only about eight seats total. So we sat outside at the picnic tables. It was nice outside, but the tables had a spider under it that wouldn’t leave. So when people started leaving inside we went inside at their counter to eat. They were just about to bring us our food when we moved inside so they gave is our food at the counter. We got all our food at the same time. I asked for an extra bowl since my Mom and I were splitting. She got it right away. I first tried the bibimbap. The portions here are actually kinda petite. I could of eaten a whole portion of their food here. The bibimbap was really good. Very flavorful. I loved the miso in it. The kimchi brought some spice and the veggies gave it some crunch. Their rice was great, a little sticky and cooked perfectly. My Mom also got a side of their power rice because she wanted to try it. I don’t like brown rice, but I tried some and it wasn’t that bad. I liked the edamame in it. My Mom took the egg and mixed it with the power rice since I don’t like egg. I also had some of my Dad’s shrimp curry. I got a piece of shrimp, some rice and curry in my bowl. It was amazing. The curry was delicious and the shrimp was clean and had a crunchy panko coating. My Dad got the best dish if them all. My Brother devoured his teriyaki beef bowl so I’m sure he liked it. This place was great and the two women running it were super sweet. My Dad told them that their curry was excellent and they thanked him. This place was a great find and perfect for lunch.

Mariscos Las Islitas Menu with Prices 1601 Panama Ln #109, Bakersfield

We came in and were greated by a very nice gentlemen. The host took us to our seats. It was a little breezy so we asked for. Different table we got seated in a little spot in the middle which was nice. They forgot to clean the tables but i just didnt want to complain at the time. Anyway we ordered the oyster shots they were quite tasty. Each shot had 2 oysters inside and the shrimp..omg the shrimp. They were delicious. So crunchy and idk just really good. We had the shrimp, pulp, and fish soup and the meat molcajete. The soup was actually very good. The shrimp again was delicious and the fish very tasty. The molcajete was smaller than what I’m use to. The flavors were okay. The meats were good. The flavor just idk wasnt all that good. They give you 3 tortillas or 6 and then you can ask for more. They dont seem to charge. The molcajete comes with rice and beans. The salsa that comes with the chips are yum. These are complimentary. I would def go back to get some shrimp plates and a few of their margaritas.

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 854 S Boulder Hwy, Henderson

We have not been here for awhile but were in the mood for L&L this evening. I usually get the garlic shrimp and broccoli which I tried again tonight, along with a side of their mac salad. We also got the shrimp curry with rice. The shrimp in both entrees was the same, the difference was what they put on top. In the past the shrimp (plenty of them) were stir dried with the garlic and the broccoli all at once and was very tasty. Tonight we got the shrimp which was breaded (not my liking) with barely cooked garlic spooned on top. The broccoli was steamed I guess and sitting on the side where the garlic never touched it. This was a big let down! I really wanted that shrimpy-garlicy-broccoli goodness we used to get at L&L. As for the curry it smelled like curry. The shrimp the same battered and fried as in the meal described previously but the curry just poured on top. It was OK tasting? But not our idea of curry and it was rather bland. As for the mac salad, the noodles were mooshy and the taste bland. Something has changed in how they make it, clearly not the mac-salad we have come to know and like at L&L. We did not get our other usuals but based on the two we got tonight I am a bit hesitant to go back. I suppose we will give them a go again and order the chicken instead. We have liked L&L over the past 12 years or so that we have been going, tonight was a disappointment tho. It is till nice and clean inside, and the wait staff friendly so that has not changed. I feel bad giving them 3 stars.

Bakudan Ramen – Menu with Prices – 17619 La Cantera Pkwy #208, San Antonio

Walking in, the decor is beautiful. I love the touch of Japanese culture. It’s not a very big space so if you want a seat, you better get there before 6pm. We had a great server. I don’t know his name but he was very knowledgeable and helpful in letting us know what items are popular, spicy, and his favorite. We went with a party of 8. The majority chose to get the Ramen. My son and I got the Bibimbap. We also tried various appetizers. My daughter got the vegetarian ramen. She said it was bland and had to keep adding soy sauce, which gave it a better flavor. My son got the combination bibimbap with noodles. He really enjoyed it, he loved the flavor. My hubby got the garlic tonkotsu. He was a little disappointed. Although it came out looking deliciously beautiful. It was just beautiful. He said it needed more salt. There was no flavor. He said it was meh. I had the bibimbap with shrimp and noodles. It was DELICIOUS! It did not disappoint and it had plenty of flavor. I did find that the shrimp was a little on the salty side but nonetheless very good!! My hubby and I traded dishes after a while. After tasting his dish, I really did not like it as much as I thought I would. You can definitely taste the garlic but that was the only flavor that I tasted. As much as I love garlic, this was not the best flavor for this fish. On the other hand, my hubby was satisfied with the rest of my dish. We also had the Bakudan edamame, octopus balls, gyoza, and shrimp tempura. The edamame was very good, not spicy at all. The octopus balls were interesting, not a favorite. Nobody liked the consistency or texture of this appetizer. The gyoza was nothing great. The tempura shrimp was the best item out of the appetizers. Overall, this place was alright. I would go back for the shrimp tempura, edamame, bibimbap, and the “Coke” (the use a local vendor for their sodas). Not sure what they put in their cola but I drank like 3 glasses! I don’t really drink soda so that really surprised me. Anyhow…I will be back again, at least I know what to order now.

Poke District – Menu with Prices – 1924 N Tustin St, Orange

This is the best poke I’ve ever had. My little brother and I came here right when they just opened the door. As soon as they opened, customers started coming in one by one. It was a steady flow coming in. My brother and I stood near the cashier, contemplating what to get since it was out first time here. I decided on getting the salmon bowl, with white rice, everything, and with the Jay-Yo-Lee sauce, which was a creamy mayo sauce. My little brother got the half and half bowl (half tuna and half salmon), brown rice, everything on top, and the Hot Lava Sauce (Spicy). We received our poke still hot and fresh. The second I took a bite out of the salmon, my mouth was watering! It was an amazing amount of flavor. The sauce was mixed evenly and there was an abundant amount of fish! Sad to say, I couldn’t finish my amount of fish… I know, shame on me… The rice was enough, the seaweed salad was enough, and the imitation crab was just right. No other poke place will be able to compete now !

Pyeong Chang Tofu Berkeley Menu with Prices 1269 University Ave, Berkeley

FINALLY I get to try this place out! I came today, a workday, around 11:30am, so my experience may vastly differ from others. I’ve heard that there can be a 1+hour wait on the weekends, so I’m lucky I just came while taking a lunch break from work! It’s super cute from the outside, and I was pleased that the interior was so cute, warm, and welcoming. The waiter who was the only one working immediately seated me, and he was so quick to bring me barley tea and banchan, and bring me my order. I had looked at the menu online before coming (which is the same as the menu in the restaurant, so if you want to save time, I highly recommend checking out the menu online first), so I knew what I wanted. I ordered the Kimchi Bibimbap in a stone bowl (which is $17), and decided to keep the menu in case if I wanted anything else (if you’ve eaten with me and/or read my other reviews, you’ll know I can eat a lot in one sitting LOL!). In addition to the barley tea and the banchan, there was complimentary hot stone tofu soup! You also get to choose the level of spiciness for your soup. I went with medium. It was chilly outside, and I was cold on my way walking here, and I could barely feel my feet as I was walking. This soup really hit the spot and warmed me up from inside. I loved it! I was accidentally brought the Vegetable Bibimbap, which certainly looked delicious! I was starting to dig into it when I realized there was no kimchi anywhere in my bowl. I got the waiter’s attention, and he was super quick to apologize and take the bibimbap away. I was thinking, “Oh, it’s probably going to take another 10 minutes for them to correct my order.” Oh heck, it ended up being UNDER 5 MINUTES for him to bring me a fresh stone bowl of kimchi bibimbap! I was impressed! Definitely 5 star customer service! As I was digging into the bibimbap and enjoying all the vegetables and ESPECIALLY loving how the rice turns perfectly golden brown and crunchy and crispy (my favorite part of enjoying bibimbap, no point of getting bibimbap if it’s not in a stone bowl!), I thought of how much I wanted to get the seafood pancake too, even though I know I shouldn’t be eating too much. But I thought, “Hey, I walked all the way out here, and I’ve already been eyeing this place for a few months. When’s the next time I’ll be back? Eff it, I’ll just order Seafood Pancake!” I got the waiter’s attention again, and he quickly brought that out too. This came out piping hot and fresh! I like to see how various Korean restaurants prepare their seafood pancakes. Some places have it thicker and cut in squares, some have it thinner and cut in triangular slices. The seafood pancake here is the latter version. The funny thing was that when deciding to come eat here, I was also trying to decide if I wanted Korean food or pizza for lunch. The seafood pancake certainly hit the spot with my pizza cravings, and the great thing is that it’s a healthier alternative! Heck, the waiter even asked if I needed a take out box. I was like, “Nope! Everything is so delicious, I’m eating it all right here!” Great portions, absolutely filling! I walked back to work stuffed! It wasn’t cheap–with tip, I paid about $38 (LOL I can’t believe I spent so much on lunch AND ate all that in one sitting, this was about as much as a breakfast at Wicked Spoon in Vegas). I did love everything I ate, and I can see why this is so popular!

DOMA Korean Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 701 W Main St, Charlottesville

I came here for a solo dinner on a Wednesday evening in the summer of 2019 while in Charlottesville for business. The restaurant was within walking distance from the Residence Inn I was staying at, and is not too long of a walk from the Downtown Mall area. The restaurant was reasonably busy for a weekday night, but there were a good number of tables available when I arrived and I was seated immediately. I was trying to be vegan around this time, so I opted for the dolsot (hot stone bowl) tofu bibimbap minus the egg. This seemed like the safest option for a vegan dish; there were a few other options that seemed like they would definitely be vegetarian if not totally vegan, but Korean BBQ is usually so meat-focused that it’s pretty normal for most of the menu to be meat-centric. The kitchen area is very open and if you’re sitting facing the kitchen, it’s cool to be able to watch them work while you wait for your food. In particular, I saw them putting the hot stone bowls for the dolsot bibimbap on the hob to heat up, which was neat. My food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and I was very satisfied with the portion size and the generous amount of veggies and tofu I got. The bibimbap came with a side of gochujang paste, but I didn’t feel like I needed to use it since I’m not really huge on spicy food and I found the bibimbap to be flavorful enough on its own. Since the bibimbap keeps cooking in the stone bowl, it made the rice a bit crispy and kept everything nice and sizzling and hot for several minutes. The service was efficient and proactive; there wasn’t a huge delay between when I finished my food and when they brought me my check. Each table is set up with a carafe of tap water, so I never had to wait for a server to come around to refill me during the meal. Overall the restaurant was clean and had a modern, bustling atmosphere, definitely helped by the open kitchen area. If you’re in the area and craving Korean food, this is definitely a good option!

Tokyo Teriyaki House – Menu with Prices – 1769 Crows Landing Rd, Modesto

I was nearby with my brother, we were hungry and seen a huge, yellow “Teriyaki” sign that pulled us in. We were unsure about it but decided to go for it after seeing a 4 star review (yes, had to make sure!) on yelp. Ordered the #12; fried rice, chow mein and half chicken, half broccoli with a side of shrimp rolls. Shrimp rolls were on point (very crispy) and rice/chowmein were good. Some of the teriyaki chicken was a little burnt so it had a light burnt smell/taste, other than that, it was juicy and tender. This is one of those places that doesn’t look like much inside/out but the food really makes up for it. All I have to say is, if you’re here, definitely try the shrimp rolls.

BONJAPAN86(YAROKU) – Menu with Prices – 990 12th St SE, Salem

TL;DR – solid, small-operation Japanese joint with great flavors in an unexpected part of town, although the wait time is stretching it a bit, even though he has a sign that says he’s a one-man operation. Definitely will be back! _____________________ FOOD The size of the menu is ambitious for a one-man show – this is not just teriyaki chicken on white rice. He has a wide variety of options that I was surprised to see, including oyakodon and curry. – Nabeyaki Udon, $12 – hot clay pot of chewy udon, a piece of shrimp tempura, naruto, and some veg in a tasty broth. It also comes with a bowl of sticky rice that was a little bland, but a nice surprise. I’d definitely recommend for a cold day! – Oyakodon, $9 – my friend got this and it looked pretty good. He was satisfied and said he’d be back to try other things, and that this could be his “safe” dish when he’s not interested in venturing out. SPACE It’s quite an unexpected location off of 12th. One thing I enjoy is that he’s got a dedicated parking lot. Inside, the theme of a”ambitious” continues for this one guy to handle. There are a few booths as well as a couple smaller tables and some counter seats. A few pieces of Japanese decor make it a little quaint. STAFF One more time: it’s the one fella! He’s extremely polite and considerate, letting us and other guests that there might be a wait, and then thanking us for waiting – classic Japanese manners. We did wait quite a while for our food, but I was satisfied!

Manna Grill – Menu with Prices – 1201 University Ave #110-B, Riverside

I used to come here when they first opened and it was my go-to when I needed my tteokbokki fix! Nowadays, I go bc the boyfriend L O V E S the curry katsu udon. We initially though it would just be curry based soup with udon noodles but NOPE. It’s like actual curry over rice but instead it’s over udon noodles and there’s a nice crispy katsu pork or chicken on top. Super delicious, highly recommend! Although the first time he got it, he had said it was good but wouldn’t go again. Turn out it grew on him and he’s been back multiple times since, JUST for that. Also love that they have korean desserts and drinks! I’ve ordered the bibimbap, kimbap, udon, bulgogi plate, and tteokbokki before. The bibimbap is good, kimbap is simple but delicious, and tteokbokki is spot on. The spice level isn’t too bad but it’s definitely there at least for me. I don’t do well with spice and I can only eat a few pieces before I tap out. The bulgogi plate is fair, good ratio of meat, rice, and salad with that really good, never-know-what-it-is dressing. The udon was also good, noodles well cooked and broth simple but there was barely any fish cake and I asked if I could add bulgogi and they said no which…I don’t see why not. She didn’t even ask anyone else she just said no which I mean it’s fine she probably gets paid minimum wage but still I don’t see the big deal but it left the udon kind of plain and too simple. Like I could’ve just bought a packet from the grocery store and boiled my own water simple. But overall, bang for your buck isn’t terrible and at least they don’t skimp on the meat when they offer it! A good spot to satisfy your Korean craving (at least from a non-Korean).

Suh Sushi Korean BBQ – Menu with Prices – 165 E Boardwalk Dr, Fort Collins

Man… I had a craving for some Korean BBQ and this place hit the spot! When you arrive, you can choose between sitting at a regular table, a table where you can grill your meat; or the sushi bar (about 10 seats, I think). Prices for grilling your own meat at the table seem to be a bit more expensive PP; we opted for the other option. My kiddo is super spoiled and had sushi (yellowtail, salmon and shrimp nigiri); which was gobbled down, so take that as you will. Interestingly, the fish had some more cuts made into each piece. Not sure if its just aesthetics, maybe? What we ended up ordering to share included the seafood pancake (pajun) and japchae (stir fried glass noodles), which were both delicious. My only note on the pancake is that it broke apart easily due to the bulkiness of its ingredients. From the main entree menu, we got the Q4 LA-style short ribs, and the dolpan bibimbap. The bibimbap proved to be unnecessary as we were stuffed and had to take most of it home, but both dishes were irresistible. Like the seafood pancake, they both arrived on sizzling stone platters; we were each provided with a bowl of rice, and several banchan dishes (kimchi, spicy cucumber, spinach, pickled daikon, fried sliced tofu, etc). Definitely come hungry and ready to share lots of tasty dishes. Service was efficient and friendly.. there seems to be a good variety of sushi available as well, but it’d be better to come for the Korean food as I found the rolls and sushi to be pricier than other places we frequent in the area.

Bamboo One Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 70 Colony Rd, Newport News

I came here with my family for a late lunch on a Monday. The restaurant was empty but I’ve been determined to find flavorful asian cuisine in Virginia. I ordered the Shrimp dumpling, pork shao-mai, BBQ Pork Bun, Sesame Rice Ball, Walnut Shrimp, Yanzhou Rice, and Grilled Beef over White rice(C2). Everything was amazing, the Yangzhou Rice was very authentic, as authentic as it can be considering we aren’t in Yangzhou. All the food tasted fresh and it was noticeable that the food was made to order based on temperature, presentation, and flavor. The Sesame Rice Ball was flavorful and the inside tasted great, the consistency of the inside was too sticky for my liking but it was tasteful nonetheless. In addition, the walnut shrimp was too saucy for my liking, however the sauce was so rich in flavor that it also overpowered the shrimp too much for my liking- Still a great dish. The BBQ Pork Bun and Pork Shao-Mai both came out steaming and were great! They reminded me of the restaurant back home. The only reason I gave this place four stars is due to the sanitation, it’s not dirty by any means but the restaurant could have a cleaner restroom. Don’t let this deter you because i’d definitely come back to this restaurant!
