The restaurant is as cute as it can be. It’s clean and inviting and there is ample seating as well. The food is authentic and quite delicious. We ordered peas and rice, pumpkin rice, cabbage, curry goat, oxtails, and plantains. The rice was dryer than I’m accustomed to, but I asked for some gravy and it was of course perfect after that. I really enjoyed my visit and I like the concept of what’s being offered culturally and collectively at this establishment. I will certainly return to Harper’s Corner for my Jamaican cuisine and soul food fix because they can handle it. My experience all and all was 4.5 stars.

Blueberry Frog – Menu with Prices – 624 S Main St, Greenville

Great establishment. Came here when it first opened and my family has enjoyed it many times since then. I enjoy their toppings more than other places in town. Their selection of yogurt isn’t as vast as other but the flavors are great everytime we visit. Lots of room for those that want to dine in. You can also leave your stamp via chalk provided by the establishment. Really fun and colorful. Will definitely return!

NoBaked Cookie Dough Nashville – Germantown – Menu with Prices – 1120 4th Ave N #102, Nashville

A really cute and unique idea that offers a novel experience and insta worthy pictures. Return business? Not so much. The concept of NoBaked is like a love hate relationship, but with more emphasis on the hate. The concept of eating rich cookie dough every visit just sounds like a punishment, and I like to eat plenty of cookie dough. They have a nice simple menu, with a handful of flavor choices. In addition to indoor seating, they have a nice patio attached to the parking lot! I ordered a single scoop of the original dough and put chocolate chips on top. It was rich and gooey and offered a rich and delicious flavor. However, I definitely struggled to eat more than a couple bites. I find that an issue for the fact that it happened even with the smallest serving size. Maybe just aim to split a single? For those complaining it’s too rich..may I remind you, this is cookie dough? I wouldn’t expect anything less than rich. Definitely worth a visit, but plan to split a serving with others.

Sushi Gen shreveport – Menu with Prices – 6607 Line Ave, Shreveport

Having spent 4 years in Japan with the family, we take every opportunity to visit the restaurants that offer this fine cuisine. We were not disappointed with Sushi Gen. My Daughter and I were out for the day from Texarkana and on the way to the movies. What better time to check out a place we had not visited. The service was excellent and the food came out fast and fresh. The Salmon was a generous portion and simply fantastic. We also experimented with a variety of Sushi and found nothing that we didn’t like. I would have rated a 5 if steamed towels were offered before our meals and no plates were offered with the starters. Got kinda messy. Another way to garner a solid 5? Offer Yakisoba! Yum!! At the end of the day, I WILL be back to this establishment. Nice work guy’s.

Monta Ramen – Menu with Prices – 800 N Coit Rd #2550B, Richardson

I’ll start with the service was 5 stars. And it was highly recommended by Mr. Max’s at Irving. The store was pretty empty on a Sunday evening. Probably bc it was 97deg today and no one wants ramen when it’s hot. We were greeted promptly and offered a nice table. Attended to throughout our meal with more water. A nice enjoyable experience overall. We started with the crispy spicy tuna rice and a house salad. Then had tonkatsu, Taiwan spicy noodles, and a chicken chasui rice bowl. Enjoyed the starters, but the ramens were below average. Chicken bowl needed some work too, a bit too chunky for my preference. The food is nowhere close to my expectation, coming from dining at Mr. Max just the night before. I hope the store will rethink the concept and workout their food consistency issues. There are better single purpose ramen shops around DFW to choose from for me to go back without some major change. If you happen to be in the area, this is a good store to try other Japanese inspired cooked dishes. Their price is fair.

Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 56 W Chippewa St, Buffalo

We had the absolute worst dining experience. Whenever we travel to Buffalo Bacchus is a must, as we’ve enjoyed years of dining here. Tonight the server spilled the juices from a mussels plate all over my partner’s hat. He looked at the spill and quickly walked away with the empty starter plates. I had to get up and ask another server to please bring me a wet cloth to clean the hat. As I was walking to the rest room our server saw me and offered club soda to clean it with. All is well…accidents happen…we’re not going to make a huge fuss. Anyway, we wait and wait and wait for our food. We finally ask another server to please check on our food. He says “it’s coming right out”. Several minutes later we track down our server and ask him to please check on our food. He goes to the kitchen and doesn’t come out for several more minutes. At this point we’re pretty sure that our food has been sitting at the pass waiting on our server. Sure enough he brings out 3 cold dishes. So why did I give 5 stars? Because a manager (I think his name was Garrett) handled the situation in a manner that was above and beyond. So my rating represents the countless great meals and services we’ve experienced here over the years AND for the manner in which our unpleasant experience was handled. It’s not how you handle issues when it’s easy, it’s how you handle your customers when things are difficult…and Bacchus/Garrett stepped up. We’ll be back next time we’re in Buffalo.

MISSION BBQ – Menu with Prices – 13067 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax

I can’t give Mission BBQ 5 stars for food, but I can give it 5 stars for the general experience. This place has delicious bbq (I’ve had better, but it’s still very good), but the staff is so friendly and especially so military-friendly, that it’s hard not to love this place. I was there for my second visit recently, and when my daughter blurted out to the cashier that I was in the Navy (embarrassed the hell out of me), she immediately handed me one of their brownies, on the house, and shook my hand. On top of that, there was an unexpected strawberry shortcake dessert with our order. This was our second trip to this location after our first one a month or two ago, and my youngest daughter had been pestering us to go back–we had all enjoyed the first visit (really enjoyed the variety of sauces), but she seemed to have enjoyed it the most. During the second visit, after the gratuitous freebies, I became an instant fan. I actually would love to give them a couple of my old patches. Bravo, Mission–you guys are great.

Petra Grill – Menu with Prices – 1335 W Elizabeth St, Fort Collins

Dining at Petra Grill was quite an authentic experience and we will definitely return soon to enjoy such delectable Middle Eastern cuisine! We were passing through Fort Collins after a day of traveling and stumbled upon Petra Grill on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try and I am glad we did! The food was served promptly, the presentation of each dish was done with great attention to detail, and the exceptional quality of ingredients, coupled with a talented chef, provided for the perfect dish. This is a family run restaurant and you can tell immediately that they are a family passionate about what they do. All the dishes tasted great, the yogurt was absolutely incredible, the shawarma was delicious, the za’atar & olive oil mix is second to none, and the experience was authentic. If you are looking to experience genuine Middle Eastern cuisine in FoCo, this is your place. I highly recommend Petra Grill!

MeXo Tequila & Mezcal Bar and Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 118 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids

I heard about MeXo from a Spectrum Health Healthier Communities event about a month ago and had to come give them a try! This is hands down one of the best cultural experiences I have ever had within the confines of our border. This “prehispanic” cuisine is spot on!! My husband and I agreed on trying the chicken molé appetizer which came out with little pipettes to control the amount of heat you want. I loved it! I used ALL of the pipette in mine then topped it off with my husband’s because he doesn’t like heat. The molé was a perfect balance of sweet and heat. For the entree I very much enjoyed the entree version of pollo molé and this is some seriously mouth watering goodness right here! The pickled vegetables were a pleasant surprise. The rice was seasoned through, though slightly undercooked. It was almost like an undercooked batch was mixed in with some that was perfectly cooked. Though it is possible they bake it which can sometimes result in a crispy top. It didn’t bother me though and it wasn’t bad enough to damage how I felt about it. It was amazing! My husband enjoyed the salmon and black rice which was also full of flavor!! Food quality, freshness, creativity, and originality all get 5 stars!! Our waitress was educated, helpful, pleasant, and attentive… 5 stars!! Ambiance is laid back, romantic, and cultural…5 stars!! Cleanliness… 5 stars and yes I went to the bathroom. For dessert, my husband had the cheesecake which is layered with coconut, pineapple, and lime cheesecake. Sounds weird right?? It’s a MUST TRY!! Creamy, citrusy, sweet, and tangy all perfectly balanced. I had a dessert I can’t even pronounce or remember the name of but after trying the cheesecake my dessert pales in comparison. Seriously guys, 5 stars though all the way around. Fantastic job!! I need an encore!!

Taste of Korea – Menu with Prices – 5 S Western Ave, Oklahoma City

Ok… I’m new to Korean BBQ. But my first venture into this cuisine was great!! I already new that I liked Kimchi, and the kimchi here is mild and not too spicy. I may have been able to handle a little hotter perhaps? No complaint here about it though. The sides were all very good. I really enjoyed the Kimchi and Cucumber Kimchi. The marinated daikon was yummy. My first fish cake and it wasn’t a bad experience at all. My impression of it is sort of Fish stick taste? I hope that’s not disrespectful to say as its not a bad taste to me. Korean Beef was great and I left feeling very full and satisfied. I’ll be back for sure!

Koen Japanese BBQ & Sushi – Menu with Prices – 2601 Jamie Ln #100, Lincoln

I almost gave Koen Japanese BBQ & Sushi five stars, but I just can’t after one visit. I’ll be back to Lincoln next week and plan to return. Maybe my next visit will elevate my review to five stars. I ordered the Sashimi Combo, 18 pieces of sashimi. The fish was very fresh and ooooh so tasty! I won’t go into a piece by piece review. Instead I will mention this is the first time I’ve been offered fresh wasabi! It was nothing like I expected. It was not hot, rather mild and quite flavorful. Fresh wasabi has ruined the green horseradish mound of ‘wasabi’ for me forever! If you stop by Koen for sashimi or sushi… get it! A friend got a selection of beef to cook on the little grill thingy in the middle of the table. He said it was very good and, while it didn’t seem like a lot of food when it arrived, the portion was completely satisfying. The waitress was super nice and attentive. The plum wine was perfect. I seriously can’t wait to get back here next week!

Coney Island Hot Weiners – Menu with Prices – 1001 W Douglas Ave, Wichita

This is an update to my initial review. On opening day I had the tamales which were fresh and pretty tasty. I gave the experience a four star review on that day (4 stars for a fast food joint, let’s keep it in context. It wasn’t a 4 star date night review.) However, and I am sad to use that transitioning word, on a subsequent visit my hopes for a successful local business fell. I don’t believe it is a concept issue, as the initial rush to visit, as witnessed, shows that Wichitans want this type of place, it is a product issue. A place called Coney Island should have some of the best dogs around, it doesn’t. I have had better dogs at Sonic and a Sunday visit to Costco will land a significantly better dog and drink for $1.50. Step up the product, even if the initial concept mimics what Coney Dogs used to be, we have evolved since then. I would pay more for a good flavored, grilled, 1/4 pound dog with all the trimmings than for the three you offer in your meal deal. I want you here, I want you successful…there is still time!

Oz Pizza and Gyro Halal Grill – Menu with Prices – 36472 Fremont Blvd, Fremont

There is a bunch of competition for Kebabs in the Fremont area and this is a place that sells both Kebabs and Pizza. They were out of several items on the menu when we popped by. We elected to go with the Kebabs. Service was friendly but when we went it was just a one man operation. Super friendly gentleman but the food did take a while to get out and he also was the cashier/cook. The kebabs themselves were very tender and flavorful which we enjoyed. Rice was just o.k. as was the bread that came with. The aesthetics of the place also left a lot to be desired. Some of the tables were dirty. They were missing silverware in the area where you bus your own table. Some of the tables/chairs were wobbly as well. Struggled between a 2 and 3 star review but the service was friendly albeit slower than some of it’s competitors nearby. If you like my reviews, consider “following” my profile for reviews all across the SF Bay Area . Why “follow” someone? It causes the person you follow’s reviews to tier to top when you pull up a business. I find this very handy when researching venues. Rod’s Review grading scale explained. Essentially I personally base it on the likelihood of a return visit and I try to be stingy with 5 star reviews since they should be “special” in my eyes. Price/Value also play a role obviously but there are $ and $$$$ littered across my grading scale. 5 stars – “I’ll go out of my way” (approx 6 % of my reviews) 4 stars- “If I was in the area I’d go here and would recommend”, (approx 38% of my reviews) 3 stars “Maybe if was nearby”, (approx 37% of my reviews) 2 stars -“Would likely not return, Only if you want to go”, (approx 16% of my reviews) 1 star -“No thanks, even if I was hungry”, (approx. 3 % of my reviews)
