Over the past year or so, Denver has become home to a number of restaurants specializing in Turkish food. And one of the best, in my opinion, is in fact the newest of these – a little outpost in Aurora (where else?) called Antepian Turkish Cuisine. As you may have guessed, the eatery’s name is a reference to the Southern Turkish city of Gaziantep. Since Gaziantep is located very close to the Syrian border, it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that some of Antepian’s dishes have strong Near- and Middle-Eastern influences. For example, the beef-stuffed orbs of fried wheat known as ?çli Köfte bear a remarkable resemblance to the Kibbeh you might find in a Lebanese household (or indeed, the Kubba of the Assyrian kitchen). Meanwhile, a few bites of the tomato-kissed bulgur pilaf will probably bring to mind its Armenian equivalent, Eetch. And the spice sometimes termed “Aleppo pepper” in English makes its presence felt in numerous selections on Antepian’s menu – notably, the meat-topped flatbread Lahmacun. (By the way, don’t forget that in Turkish, the letter “c” is actually pronounced like the “j” in the English word “jellybean” – if you want to make the “ch” sound, you would instead use “ç”). But before I get too distracted by linguistic tangents, let me tell you a bit about Antepian’s kebabs! Yes, skewered meats and veggies are indeed a popular fave in Turkey, and here you can sample such varieties as ground beef augmented by sweet red pepper, lamb layered with baby eggplant, or chunks of chicken in a yogurt-garlic marinade. If you’re feeling especially indecisive, you can avail yourself of the PaÅ?a Kebap, consisting of a beef skewer tucked inside the Lahmacun I mentioned in the last paragraph (see what I did there?). If you have to head back to the office (or indeed, the opera) right after your meal, you’ll be pleased to hear that many of the aforementioned kebabs are in fact available as wraps – or more accurately, Dürüm. But regardless of what you settle on, you have to finish with a bit of dessert, right? Well, of course – so why not end with the flaky, creamy pastry Å?öbiyet, traditionally made with Gaziantep’s famous pistachios?

CherryBerry Self-Serve Yogurt Bar – Menu with Prices – 5107 S Louise Ave, Sioux Falls

Alright so let’s start off by a disclosure of stating that me and my wife enjoy our frozen yogurt one of my favorites is salted caramel it’s so good so anyway we go to Cherry Berry tonight who walk-in we’re both adults and children of our own it was just me and the wife tonight looking for some frozen yogurt to soothe our bellies we walk in and we see all the different flavors of yogurt now and it normal person that walks into a yogurt shop doesn’t always necessarily know exactly which flavor of yogurt they want to get so you get a sample cup like any other yogurt shop in the United States you get a sample cup so that way you can sample the yogurt before you buy the yogurt at $0.45 an ounce which is incredibly expensive you would think they can afford a sample now if you have people that are abusing the samples for employees serve the sample cups but don’t take the samples away not for anything but you just lost $60 tonight between myself and my wife that’s on you and if you continue this fashion just like all the other yogurt shops that have shut down in Sioux Falls your shop will be next so anybody looking for frozen yogurt don’t go here because if you don’t like what you get you can’t return it

Aria Meat Market – Menu with Prices – 228 N Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank

Aria makes the best kebabs I have ever had! The spicy chicken kebabs are the best! More please!! Yum Yum!!! I’ve had these at parties, picnics, or just hanging out. One day I finally asked who made it and where they got the chicken kebabs from because the flavor was excellent and the level of spicy was undeniable. When I got the name, I immediately bookmarked it and couldn’t wait for a chance to visit Aria in Burbank. Upon my visit, I had ordered quite a few pounds of the spicy chicken kebabs. The gentleman that served me was very polite and he basically “took care of me” and my order while I was there. Very professional and polite staff. I would go back there anytime I’m in Burbank. I could have these everyday for the rest of my life and I’d be a happy man. I appreciate the recipe and the business decision to have their kebabs for sale. This is a must visit. Hats off to Aria Meat & BBQ!

Jordan Grocery Halal Meat & Deli – Menu with Prices – 1507 Lowry Ave N, Minneapolis

I WOULD take a pic of the Philly steak and rice I ordered, but it looked and smelled so good, I dove right in! I also got two triangular pastry puffs with ground beef and spices in it. OMG- this is where I’m going for my comfort food!! The two Somali men there were helpful and friendly. The younger one spoke excellent English and handled the money. The elder was the chef, was a little less fluent, but could still describe much of what was on the menu. I had a sample of hot sweet Somali tea as I waited. Don’t know their every workday hours, but today they are open 7A-9P. DEFINITELY worth checking out.

Jordans Hot Dogs – Menu with Prices – 970 State St, New Haven

This is my favourite hot dog place. I don’t eat pork or beef so it’s awesome they have turkey franks and turkey chilli. My choices of food places to get turkey franks are sorely limited. The chicken melt supreme is my favourite, the chicken is juicy and the sauce is so good, I usually ask for extra sauce. They include drinks with the combos which is nice. The service is always good and they are pleasant people to deal with. Prices are competitive just wish they were a tad cheaper but that doesn’t make or break they experience. Only two issues I’ve ever had was several times I attempted to order turkey franks and they have been out. The other was ordering online, my food isn’t usually labels and it’s not always easy to tell the turkey franks from the others (they revealed they use two links for the turkey) so when we’ve placed a large order I gave mine away out of fear of eating a beef or pork link.

Sweet Savannah’s Frozen Yogurt – Menu with Prices – 10108 Taylorsville Rd, Louisville

The woman working was very kind and sweet. She let me sample the yogurt before buying. They have maybe 6 flavors plus one machine with traditional vanilla ice cream. I was surprised how good the sugar-free vanilla yogurt was! Very sweet! Instead of filling your cup up, weighing it, and then hearing the price, you pick a cup that is already priced and add as much stuff to it as you can. Way better! No surprises when you check out this way and it wasn’t overpriced at all. Mix and match as you please. They didn’t have as many toppings as some froyo places do but still plenty to pick from, in my opinion. They had a good 5 or 6 syrups to pick from as well. When I didn’t end up with a full cup, she reminded me that I could add more yogurt to the top, if I wanted. They also sell maybe 7-8 varieties of Dippin’ Dots and a dairy-free option (a few different flavors) that are similar to Italian Ice. I would say this is one of the better froyo places, mainly because it tasted great and ended up being more affordable than most. Great for families!

Food Basics – Menu with Prices – 509 Commissioners Rd W, London

Paper advertisement stated ground beef “or” pork for $3/lb. When I got to the food basic establishment on 509 commissioners west, they did not honour their advertisement as the night shift supervisor stated, “Our meat department manager is not available on nights, it is what it is.” What was on sale for $3/lb was another completely different item: ground beef “and” pork. I have previously purchased ground pork cheaper at another grocer prior to making my stop at this food basics for their “sale ground beef.” Hoping to make a blend of pork and beef burgers; Now I’ll have to enjoy a pork burger instead of a beef burger for the week. Thanks @foodbasics, I wonder what the legalities are towards falsifying advertisement are ?

Villa Dolce – Menu with Prices – 20 City Blvd W #811, Orange

Unbelievable experience today! I read the reviews and expected a mediocre experience, and yes, the yogurt is mediocre. The customer service dropped it down from 2-3 stars to 1. In terms of the yogurt, some of the machines are runny, and many of the flavors taste overly fake like syrup. In addition, they are stingy with sample cups. They have yogurt gelato and non-dairy sorbets, but the taste is just not up to par to other yogurt establishments. I came in the evening and many of their fruit toppings were not refilled and near empty. I only came because I had a BOGO coupon from a coupon site that had other coupons with the EXACT wording as coupons I’ve previously used. The store employee refused to honor the coupon saying it’s a Buy 1 then on your next visit get the next one free. So is said ok..then I’ll do 2 different transactions for my 2 cups. She then changed the terms just so I couldn’t use the $5 off to Buy 2 then get the 3rd one free. When I said I’d buy a 3rd she looked shocked like REALLY?! I didn’t buy a 3rd and because I was reading the terms out to her and trying to understand how she could interpret it and change the terms twice, she said I’ll give you a discount of $1 since you’re confused. She then abruptly turned around. This is on top of the fact that this yogurt is expensive at 49 cents an oz…totally not worth the quality.

House of Kabob – Menu with Prices – 1212 Sparkman Dr NW, Huntsville

Very friendly staff. We were served by I assume the proprietor based on how she was talking. She gave us an extra soup and also brought my daughter crayons and paper to color. We were also checked on at least three times by another friendly employee. The food was delicious. I had a two kabob combo, chicken and beef, and my wife had a chicken and beef kabob a la carte. The odd thing was that my chicken kabob was chunks of chicken and hers was ground. Both of them were very flavorful, especially with the taziki, but we the menu wasn’t clear on what the difference was. I enjoyed the soup very much as well. I could see ordering that soup as a main entree on a winter day, maybe with some pita. The worst I can say is that I wish I had ordered more, as I didn’t know what the portion sizes would be, and I wish they had fountain drinks as opposed to cans. Other than that, very positive experience. We will definitely be back.

Shishkabob Express – Menu with Prices – 11210 Lee Hwy, Fairfax

We decided to visit on a Friday for lunch around 12:30pm. The place was fairly empty. I mainly tried the meats, salad, soup and dessert. The minced chicken kebab was the only decent kebab, especially if you go and a new batch comes out, the other chicken kebabs tasted old and/or over cooked, the beef was also good, but a little more tough. It takes them a while to replenish meats, so you have to sit tight and be patient. They had a good yogurt and cucumber dip and lemon to eat the kebabs with. The lentil soup tasted wholesome, packed with lentils, onion and garlic. For dessert they had oranges cut up, a rice pudding make with powdered rice and dusted with cinnamon powder, which wasn’t too sweet, and a really sweet flan. All desserts were ok. Salads looked plentiful. I had the Greek salad, onions were a little soggy and the tabouli which had just parsley and tomatoes, but tasted fresh. I looked at some of the other items but didn’t try them, as I’m on a low carb. diet. Bread at the front, looked old, my husband had the tilapia, but he didn’t enjoy it, said it was too bony, rice looked ok. They also had potatoe and chick pea curry and biryani. Service is nonexistent, you just pay at the end, they don’t even bring water to your table. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this buffet, but if you’re nearby, you could check it out. I also didn’t understand how a Spanish women is running an Afghan restaurant ?

Moe’s Original BBQ – Huntsville – Menu with Prices – 127 Holmes Ave NW, Huntsville

I literally just finished eating at Moes downtown. I ordered the chicken wings, first bite was bloody, not pink…bloody! I told one of the girls and then a gentleman from the kitchen came over and asked me if he could get me something else. They never offered to give me my money back. I told him I would take the sliced turkey instead. He brought over some sliced turkey and a paper container with no sauce just four pieces of sliced turkey, so I asked for sauce. Then I overheard one of the kitchen guys Say the â??Fâ? word very loudly. Then another bartender/cook was running around asking everyone if they had baby powder because he was chafing. The gentleman who brought me the sliced turkey came by and to asked me if the turkey was better than the wings and I mentioned that at least it wasnâ??t raw, he just laughed and went on. I would never expect this from this particular restaurant. Iâ??ve eaten at Moes for years! Very disappointed!!!!!!

Shish Ke Baba – Menu with Prices – 59 30th St, San Francisco

Turkish food has been refined to perfection over generations. Shish Ke Baba does justice to an ancient and amazing cuisine, sticking to its authentic roots. Beshir and Christiana make you feel special, like you are eating at their house. You can tell they are proud of their restaurant that is second generation Turkish, with original recipes created by Beshir’s father. For a 2 month old restaurant, B & C run an efficient setup, and make most of the desserts in-house, except for 8+ kinds of Turkish Delights, which is hard to make here, and they import it from Istanbul, Turkey. We start with some excellent Turkish tea, which is a lightly caffeinated tea served in an elegant narrow glass cup and is a hot tea that is a blend of 3 Turkish black teas. Lots of flavor and you may qualify for a free refill if the restaurant isn’t too busy. I prefer not adding the lump of sugar, however my dining partner swears by how good the tea tastes with a little sugar. I order the Baba’s Sampler, which allows you to try 7 different kinds of cold mezzes: Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Tabbouleh, Dolma, Eggplant Salad, Ezme and Falafel. This is served with a beautiful light baked bread that’s soft and topped with 2 kinds of sesame seeds on it. Delicious. Of the sampler, everything tastes fresh, and the chef confirms that they prep and make dishes everyday. My favorite is the Ezme, a mix of walnuts, tomato, green onion, parsley, red pepper, lemon and olive oil. It’s fresh, light and umami with the bread. For $16.50 for a whole sampler (which is a meal by itself and includes bread), this is a deal in San Francisco. This is great for vegetarians and vegans alike. I check on hot sauce, and Christiana gets me some super fresh tzatziki and hot sauce. Since we were past their closing time of 9 pm, I did not expect their tzatziki to taste fresh. Incidentally, since the restaurant does fairly well, they have to keep making fresh mezzes. Lucky us. My dining partner has gluten and other allergies, so the chef swaps the bread for cucumber slices with a sprinkle of parsley. This is delicious to scoop up a lot of the mezze. She is craving lamp, so she orders the Lamb Shish Kebab, which includes grilled skewers of lamb, roasted bell peppers and some delicious marinated sumac onions. She tells me that she can rarely finish her entire meal, but she found the lamb delicious and did not need a to-go box. Tip: Get Baba’s mixed grill, which is a great deal for $22 and includes a cornucopia of juicy, succulent kebabs: Adana, Chicken Shish, Kofte, Lamb Shish, Lamb and Beef Shawarma. A great way to sample all the grilled meat options. We were so impressed with the high-quality, delicious meal, that we decided to indulge in some desserts. And on hindsight that was a great decision. While the Baklava was excellent, the chocolate Turkish Delight steals the show. And it also happens to be gluten free. The chef surprises us with an amazing layered triangular pastry called ‘varkat’ that’s not yet on the menu. Think of it as several layers of thin, crisp phyllo dough, and in the middle is a layer of rose flavored cream. Subtle and unlike anything you have eaten. We also get the chocolate baklava, which is excellent, and intentionally made with less dough. Bottom-line, if you love reasonably priced food, in a great ambience, and immensely delicious food cooked with a lot of love and pride, in a friendly milieu, Shish Ke Baba is a great find and likely to add to the roster of great Arabic/Mediterranean/Turkish restaurants, such as Beit Rima. We did not feel rushed, and although the restaurant closes at 9 pm, we left past 10 pm. What an incredible culinary experience! P.S.: If the restaurant is closed during posted hours or has run out of some dishes, be kind. The chef and his wife drive down from Napa every day, away from their 4 girls, and are trying really hard to make things work in the startup phase. Give them a chance to find a balance so they can share their amazing food with you.

Palm Tree Market – Menu with Prices – 2702 Parade St, Erie

Tons of spices to paw through! Many exotic ingredients and traditional Middle Eastern products. They have a small cafe in the back that features a deli with baked goods and such. I literally was not only the only non-eastern but the only girl as well, but don’t be put off by that, its worth it! I had the falafel ‘sandwich’, which is served on a fresh baked pita with pickled radishes, yellow bell pepper and some chopped iceberg with a tangy yogurt dressing. Expect to wait at least 15 minutes, because they take the time to do it the right way. It was pretty much the best felafel I’ve ever had in Erie. Better still, it was only 3.50$. Had some delicious turkish delight and the store owner/front end guy was very nice too.
