I had my very first experience at Sole last night. I was meeting friends for a birthday. The reservation, unfortunately, got mixed up and so we were stuck waiting awhile because it was PACKED! However, they provided us with two free sushi rolls and edamame to eat while we waited. They quickly gave us the next available table which was outside. But then it started POURING rain and they quickly made arrangements for us to re-locate again. After we ate, our waitress informed us that the owner was covering ALL of our food, it was all paid for! Although it began with an unfortunate circumstance, the customer service was unbeatable. Friendliest and most adaptable staff ever! Definitely going back!!! ?

Empire Szechuan – Menu with Prices – 4373 Amboy Rd, Staten Island

I would challenge anyone who says they have located better Chinese food on Staten Island. I’ve been ordering from Empire Szechuan for years with my family, and I cannot even begin to express how strongly I recommend trying it out. The staff is very friendly, the food is always made quickly, and the quality is unbeatable. Although I understand some reviewers claiming it is a little pricey, I argue that the lunch specials are unbeatable. Soup, fried rice, & and entree (a very large portion of food) for an extremely reasonable price varying based on the entree of choice. Empire Szechuan has become a constant in my families take out food rotation, so much so that we have relatives who crave the food whenever they come for a visit.

The Cake Room Lafayette – Menu with Prices – 104 E Kaliste Saloom Rd, Lafayette

Unprofessional – I paid for a cake in full (a little over $1,000). Due to unforeseen circumstances the event was canceled 2 1/2 months before. I informed the owner the event was canceled and now she refuses to refund the money. The agreement states a refund is given if the owner is informed of the cancellation.

Martin’s Tavern, Est 1933 – Menu with Prices – 1264 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington

My family of four came here for a late lunch last week. Only two other tables were occupied, but the bar was full. The history and ambiance of Martin’s is wonderful. The food and drink were fine, and the service was awful. First off, we couldn’t understand our Hispanic waitress. She was very nice, but we just flat out couldn’t understand her, she spoke very softly, and she kept having to repeat herself. We waited almost 10 min. for two cocktails and two ginger ales. They obviously had been sitting for most of that time because they were watered down when served. Our two salads and two sandwiches were fine, nothing special. I wanted to change my order after I discovered they had soft shell crab, but our waitress disappeared until our food arrived. (It should have been suggested by our waitress!)Then she disappeared for the rest of our meal! I would have had a wine with my lunch and we would have ordered dessert. We were on vacation, it was my husband’s birthday and we were ready to go all out on this meal! By the time our waitress reappeared, we were ready to go, so we paid the check. It started pouring rain, so we decided to have a cocktail, dessert and wait it out. Alas! No server to be found. Two hostesses stood at the front door chatting, but our waitress was nowhere to be found! She came out once to take an order at the next table, we attempted to flag her down, but she didn’t even look our way. Overall, the terrible service cast a dark cloud on what we thought would be a fun, lively lunch. Martin’s lost a nice chunk of potential revenue from our little table of four. Thank goodness for the history and charm, that is the only thing worth writing about. Save your money or go to Old Ebbitt Grill. We had a fabulous lunch there!

Raising The Bar Menu with Prices 2030 Powers Ferry Rd #338, Atlanta

We hired Raising the Bar for our wedding in Oakland Cemetery this November. Their servers did an INCREDIBLE job, even serving my guests in the pouring rain! They made my grandmother’s old fashioned recipe perfectly, which was very special for my family as she had recently passed. We were able to cheers to her together. They made the best gin and tonic my now husband has ever had, and served the wine one of my aunts donated (which saved me a ton of money). They even got the local beer I wanted without any issue! Amy and Matt were fantastic woth communication. I would recommend them for any event where you want to ensure the product and service are absolutely superb. I cannot thank these servers enough for being such troopers in the rain and ensuring my guests had the time of their lives. THANK YOU!

Rose & Crown Pub – Menu with Prices – 10235 101 St NW, Edmonton

I am a gainfully employed, Indigenous man who once frequented the Rose and Crown, and I regret to say that given the attitude of the staff towards Native peoples, I will not be back. After hearing the pianist strike up my ex’s favourite song, I knew I had to leave, and quickly. I asked the bartender for the cheque, paid, and tipped. The hostess accosted me and told me, as if I were unfamiliar with the concept: “You need to pay your bill!!” I am quite familiar with accusations of theft and immediately asked the bartender in a loud fashion: I need to pay my bill! The bartender corroborated my previous payment, and informed the hostess I had indeed paid. For whatever reason, this did not assuage the need in the hostess to condescendingly ask the poor, confused Metis, who clearly had all of THREE beers and couldn’t hold his liquor (you know how them Natives get when they’ve had a few, amirite?) :Are you SUUUURE you paid your bill? I threw my jacket and backpack in frustration, prepared to be ripped off of my bill yet again, but the hostess instead resorted to the time honoured tactic of painting me to be a problem. “You need to leave! You need to leave now! You need to go! Leave this bar!” I had enquired about my bill that I apparently hadn’t paid, and was informed brusquely: “You paid it now leave!” As she attempted to grab my aforementioned personal articles. Not wanting to risk damage to my personal effects, I collected them and left. I ensured I paid my bill twice, to assure management I had not stolen from them. But I must insist that anyone darker than a grocery bag not frequent this establishment, as they will likely be scrutinized as a Thief, a Liar, and a Problem.

Hole Doughnuts Menu with Prices 168 Haywood Rd, Asheville

I’m a fan of doughnuts and fully support their current status as a trendy baked good. When researching places to eat in Asheville I noticed that HOLE was at the top of a number of lists I checked out. After a quick skim of their Yelp page I was sold, so I made arrangements to check them out during my stay. I was actually a little surprised at first when I saw the business hours – most bakeries I know of (especially trendy spots) don’t close at 2pm. I quickly learned however that all the doughnuts are made to order and that they occasionally run out of their supply for the day, so then it made sense. There was a small line when we got there, but it moved fairly quickly. The space itself wasn’t large – a few tables, a long bench with stools, and some space outside to enjoy. Because all the doughnuts are made to order, more chances than not you’ll be waiting – but you won’t be bored because the entire process in in plain sight so you can see your doughnut being made. There were about 4 to 5 flavors to choose from, and my brother and I decided to split three: two glazed and one sesame. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our order to be ready, and I think it took us about 3 minutes to devour them. Holy moly – they were hot, they were sweet, they were delicious. I mean, there’s not more I can say – go get them…do it…do it. Staff was *super* friendly – this woman named Laurie was manning the line and wow she was definitely one of the friendliest people I encountered my entire trip. She was really a gem and they’re blessed to have her. Overall, I’m glad I stopped in and glad I waited for these doughnuts – they were unique and delicious and worth whatever amount of calories they were.

Hope Valley Wine & Beverage – Menu with Prices – 4711 Hope Valley Rd #4E, Durham

Now I am by no means a wine connoisseur (I can’t even spell that without looking it up), but even I found myself at home in this fantastic wine shop. As mentioned in numerous other reviews, the staff here really are just about the friendliest people you could meet. The importance of that fact cannot be overemphasized enough for an essential wine rookie timidly walking into a wine shop! My fears quickly dissolved in HV Bottle Shop, however, as the staff member that helped me was so very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Upon asking him a question about a possible wine selection, he had a suggestion for me right off the bat! (and of course his suggestion turned out to fit the bill perfectly) There is a wide selection of wines from numerous regions to fit pretty much any budget, as well as a decent selection of chilled wines and a tasting machine (score!). Plus they host regular wine tastings so unsophisticated individuals such as myself can broaden their palate a bit. Despite my naivety when it comes to vino, I do think I’m a bit more well versed in the arena of beers. And lo and behold, there is a very respectable selection of craft beers and microbrews here as well! Clearly, you are not going to find the variety or sheer numbers found in Sam’s or Tasty Beverage, but the selection of ales here is nothing to shake a stick at. Seemingly equally knowledgeable about beer as he was about wine, the staff member informed me that NC cannot sell Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA because of NC’s 15% ABV cap on beer (as the 120 minute IPA runs north of the 15% ABV line). He further informed me that NC had a 6% ABV cap until 2005 when a new bill was put into effect thanks to the Pop the Cap movement. (maybe everyone else already knows that, but I certainly did not!) Great wine selection, much more than decent beer selection, amazing staff, and fun facts to be learned upon visiting–what more could you want?

Heinrich’s German Grill – Menu with Prices – 8420 Lockwood Ridge Rd, Sarasota

Wow! The food may be delicious but the service and attitude of the people working there is completely disgusting! My family and I had a “reservation” for 6:45, god forbid we showed up at 6:30, it was pouring rain so we opted to get out of the car and wait on the bench outside. Upon looking in the restaurant we noticed it was half empty so we thought we’d see if we could be seated 15 minutes early. The hostess began making our table up for us and was questioned by someone who wanted to act like they were in charge, if that’s the owner, even bigger WOW because he spouted off with “your reservation was for 6:45, I thought we talked about this”. Umm…excuse me?!? Who do you think you’re talking to?!? We proceeded to be sat at our table and I could just tell things were not going to go well. They were going to make us sit there and wait until 6:45 to even take our drink order. At this point it just wasn’t even worth it, we got up and left. And funny thing, you think they would be nicer to their customers, they clearly need the money, the chairs are torn and falling apart, they need to be reupholstered.

Zuroona Mediterranean Cafe – Menu with Prices – 6210-6212 Northwest Expy, Oklahoma City

The Case of the Missing Cell Phone I stopped in about !:15 and the place had only one booth with someone, probably a worker. They had no customers, ZERO. I just wanted to try their Tabouli Salad. The waitress seemed new, not knowing how to wait a table. She handed me a small, paper menu, and I said, “I’ll have the Tabouli salad, the small one.” In a few minutes, the salad came out. They did not serve pita with it like they do at Simply Falafel in Edmond. The waitress brought ice water. I was considering ordering soup and told the waitress that I might. After the salad, I was ready to pay, but the waitress was up front, so I went up to the register. Seeing me, she turned to take my pay, but rang up eight dollars and something. I said immediately that I had ordered the small salad. She didn’t get it, saying, “We have only one size.” At that moment, a man stepped in and rang up the right amount. Leaving, I walked right past my table and didn’t get my expensive cell phone. I walked only about 25 steps toward my car when I realized that I left it. I did an about face and rushed right back into the restaurant, but the phone wasn’t anywhere in sight. With the speed of light it had vanished. Yeah, that quickly, it got legs. The waitress and the man who rang me up acted expressionless, like they hadn’t a clue and were silent. I Insisted that it had been only seconds ago, “Where is the phone?” I asked. At that moment, another man appeared and reached under the cabinet and produced my phone. I took the phone and started out. I did not look back, but one of the men trailed behind me some of the way to my car, yelling, “Sir, what is wrong with you?” I kept walking toward my car as I heard his repeating himself, “Sir, what is wrong with you, sir, what is wrong with you?” Now you can look below at several paragraphs of the restaurant owner’s tirade, accusing me the customer, and distorting everything. I’m glad I paid in cash. In addition, the owner claims to have an active video in the place. That’s interesting. Customers will love that. But, the bottom line is, why was my phone so quickly stashed under the counter?

The Fishing Hole Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 15 Brent Ln, Pensacola

I’m torn here. The food is good, bisque is mediocre and my pasta rather flavorless, but the sandwiches and fish tacos and cheese grits are really good. I was informed that the waitresses do not receive the tips you give despite only being paid just a bit above minimum wage. Usually when this is done, waitresses are paid a larger sum do tips aren’t needed. I don’t care how you feel about that, either way: management needs to inform patrons of this to make their own decision. There is still a tip line on the bill. Meaning when you tip, you’re just giving more money for your food for no reason to a greedy owner. No thanks!

Meridian Crossing Tavern & Eatery – Menu with Prices – 627 Meridian St N, Huntsville

Had great expectations for this place when we walked in. Loved the decor. Great atmosphere, but staff failed in every way possible. Took the waitress/staff at least 20-30mins everytime we asked for drinks/food. The Golfer Martini I order was just ok. Most of the night we could not locate the waitress so bar staff would come over to us. I couldnâ??t even get a glass of water! Husband had the brisket and he ended up with more fat left on his plate than the meat he ate! Worst heâ??s ever had! I had the smoked chicken, which arrived lukewarm. Beans were good, but greens were awful…no salt/seasoning. I kept adding salt, but ended up just not eating them. I figured the food is made earlier then warmed. Since we sat across from the kitchen, we watched as random people went in/out of the kitchen/bar areas, then return to a table they were sitting at. They were also delivering food. I was waiting for a hair in my food and really never saw any of these people wash their hands! The most troubling part of our evening was when the waitress finally took our payment and promptly disappeared for 20mins! I wanted to know where the crap our credit cards went! A gal from the bar finally came to return our cards and said, â??Sorry, no one told me these were up there.â? So, all of that time, with ransom people going in/out, where were our cards? Also, band was so loud, our ears were ringing when we got outside to go home. Just not a good night at all and 3 stars was generous.

Paradise Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 6256 N 43rd Ave #6, Glendale

This restaurant is one of the best places there is to eat! The name says it itself, a little piece of paradise. The food tastes homemade, my favorite place for Mexican food. The prices are unbeatable & the service is amazing! Went there today & our waitress went above & beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. It is one of my favorite picks to eat at when I head over from Mesa. If I could give it 10 stars I definitely would. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
