This place is close to where I work. I have had breakfast here a couple of times, and lunch once. The plates are big for breakfast, I think there are some who could share with a friend or SO. Today I had a patty melt with the clam chowder. The patty melt was very big, and they made it for me on sourdough as I do not enjoy rye bread. It was a very good patty melt, one of the best I have had. The clam chowder was a disappointment for two reasons- the one dollar upcharge, which would not be an issue except for the other thing. That other thing was that it was served lukewarm. The service is very good, they sit you quickly, get your drink and menus, take your order without delay. This is a very clean café. The ladies who are serving the food are very kind and helpful. A great place to eat, but watch that clam chowder-not worth it. Update- I have been eating here too much, I guess. Service can really be slow. I was here last week again. It was twelve minutes to get our order taken. Almost forty five minutes later we were fed. With one hour for lunch, that does not work out. Cols soup is one thing, but being late from lunch, I won’t do that. Updated 7/1/19

Cross Keys Café – Menu with Prices – 101 S 3rd St, Philadelphia

We had a nice lunch of New England Clam Chowder for two of us, with a Niçoise Salad for another; soft drinks, a pretzel, and some candy. It was later in the day, so there was no crowd; and, the kitchen had run out of some items. Everything tasted great; in fact, it was some of the best New England Clam Chowder I’ve ever had… and, we’ve just come from Boston! My compliments to the chef. The only downside is the pricing; and, fairly spartan decor. You have to bus your own tables; and, serve yourself too, so it’s much more a cafeteria then a cafe. Great food, good service, good seating = 4 stars.

Stones Throw Tavern – Menu with Prices – 3417 Shelby Ray Ct Unit E, Charleston

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Visiting Charleston and my friends took me to this new location. Staff was very friendly but I ordered a patty melt and have to say it was the worst patty melt I have ever eaten. The burger was overcooked, found very few grilled onions and it looked like a not even a slice of cheese was put on the patty melt. The rye bread was as hard as a rock to the point I ate the patty melt without the rye bread. I think this restaurant has great potential but they definitely need to get their menu in order and have some experienced chef to assist with food preparation.

A Bite Of Maine – Menu with Prices – 2865 Lynnhaven Dr A5, Virginia Beach

I’ve heard about a food truck called A Bite of Maine out of Virginia Beach years ago and how popular it became in the community. And the raves were around the Lobster Rolls. Two years ago, they opened up their own brick and mortar where customers can dine in, with reviews still mainly positive. Now, I finally got the chance to see what the fuss was about, and man was I satisfied. Once you walk in, you have to stand in line to place your order. If you’re there worrying to yourself saying ‘Is this gonna take long???’, then you’re wasting your time (joking of course). My girlfriend and I were probably in line maybe 5 minutes where there were 6 people ahead of us so it was no biggie. The people told me that around 1pm it would be crowded and it was. Like the old saying goes, it was worth the wait. We both ordered Lobster Rolls and pint size orders of clam chowder (I also ordered the Moxie soda), but her roll was the ‘Maine’ which is the mayo-based sauce (the most popular choice) and mine was the ‘Connecticut’ which is butter based. It may be a small roll, but man oh man does it pack flavor. The roll was buttered just right (not overdosed with butter) and there was plenty of lobster. And no, this is not the type that’s out of a freezer bag. This here is the real deal, fresh from Maine. $13/roll sounds right for the authenticity. The clam chowder is chunky and flavorful. And it helps with the addition of bacon. My only issue with the clam chowder (which is very small) is the lack of thickness. I’m used to having the chowder a little thicker, however with everything that’s served, it makes up for that issue. Like I said earlier, this place lived up to the hype. I will be coming back here again, maybe to try fried clams and clam chowder (or lobster bisque depending on which week it will be). Stay tuned…….

MJ’s Cafe Irvine – Menu with Prices – 2600 Michelson Dr, Irvine

Food is good. It’s a breakfast lunch place for those that work in the same building or nearby buildings. So, parking is paid if you don’t work in the building. The service is great. Maggie and the other girls always has a great smile and are always so helpful. For the food, I always get their tomato bisque when I’m not that hungry but need something to get me through to dinner. Good and creamy. They serve the bisque and chili daily. They have other soups that they rotate during the week. For sandwiches, I get the albacore melt. Nice and comforting. I’ve had their other sandwiches as well, but that is my go to. As for breakfast, I get the Denver omelette or the MJs breakfast. Both are good and filling. You may not be able to work after. They also have smoothies, kombucha on tap, and coffee (lattes, mochas, etc.) Great place to eat.

Catch of the Day – Menu with Prices – 6854 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach

One of my favorite restaurants! I go here every time I’m in Huntington Beach. The food is consistently delicious and the owners are the nicest people you will ever meet. There is a consistent pool of regulars that I recognize every time I’m there and it’s no surprise because the restaurant experience is so wonderful. Highlights are the old maritime decor, the friendly staff and the fresh seafood and clam chowder. We always start with the fried clam strips followed up by a huge bowl of creamy New England clam chowder. My favorite items on the menu are the fish and chips, Mediterranean halibut, pecan crusted salmon, and macadamia crusted anything. All of the fish is fresh, cooked to perfection, and served as a hearty portion with two sides and a bowl of chowder or salad to start. I have never had a bad meal here and I would recommend Catch of The Day to everyone. I don’t think I could say enough nice things about this place.

Sam LaGrassa’s – Menu with Prices – 44 Province St, Boston

Highly suggested place for pastrami from our tour guide. While there may be a line this place moves faaast. Order ahead for pickup or enjoy your time in line for 10-15 minutes. The windows here make the place look much larger than it is and lets in plenty of natural light. Our tour guide suggested the traveller but I was torn between the pastrami/corned beef combo so I thought it would be the best of both worlds. For ~$15 a sandwich you have enough to share between two people. The pastrami and corned beef were flavored well and were delicious between the two pieces of rye. The bread held up well but I’d be curious to try it on a thicker cut of bread. We also opted for a side of their clam chowder and it was the last bit of food we needed to fill us up for the rest of the day. The chowder was thick just the way I like it and had plenty of thick cuts of clam and pieces of bacon. YUM! They close around 3PM so be sure to come during lunch since you won’t be able to get it any other time. Other fave seems to be the chipotle pastrami so need to try that one next time.

Alive & Kicking Lobsters – Menu with Prices – 269 Putnam Ave, Cambridge

I just couldn’t let summer end without another lobster roll. Stopped by Alive & Kicking last week with an out of town friend who demanded New England-style seafood. I heard good thing about this place and wanted to give it a try (to kill two birds or something like that). This place did not disappoint! Loved the lobster sandwich. Generous serving of lobster in the sandwich. Loved how I got more lobster than bread. Don’t know how I can ever go back to eating it in a roll. The lobster bisque was flavorful and tasty. Could really tell it was made that day. The clam chowder didn’t disappoint. Super fresh and a really-true-to-its-roots clam chowder. There’s outdoor seating and a couple of off street parking spaces. They did have a smaller seating area in a makeshift shack. It was on the pricey side ($31 in all) and the soups were smaller portions than I would have liked for $6 plus bucks. Lobster sandwich was better value, even if the price is comparable or a little more than some places. You just get so much lobster! But hey, its a small business and I’m sure the taxes are high. Is it worth trekking out to this side of Cambridge to eat? Maybe not, but I would definitely eat a lobster sandwich here again if I was close by.

WHISPERS OYSTER BAR & SEAFOOD LOUNGE – Menu with Prices – 331 W Forsyth St, Jacksonville

This place has a lot of potential but there’s a long ways to go. Whispers is a great location, especially for those who work in the TIAA Bank Tower. The prices are relatively good and hopefully they stay that way. To increase the stars, these are the things that will need to be worked on: 1) The staff do not appear to be trained/experienced waitstaff. A lot of confusion and there is no communication between staff. If you’re coming here for a business lunch, do not do it. If you’re coming to eat lunch by yourself or with some work buddies, it’ll be okay. 2) The food took over 35 minutes to come out and once it did, everything was barely lukewarm. If you offer lunch specials, lunch should be out quickly and the food should be hot. 3) I tried the wings special (Cajun ranch) and the oxtails. The wings were okay for the price, but were cold and a little over done. The oxtails were better than the wings, but not by much; barely warm but there was some flavor there. The Mac and cheese was okay, again, would have been better if it was hot. This is really a 2.5 stars, but I have 3 because while the staff seemed extremely lost and uncertain of what to do, they were kind and you can tell they were trying their best. All in all, time will tell if things will improve, last week was their first official week open so we will see. I’ll give them another shot in a week or two and I’ll update the.

Fish District – Menu with Prices – Town Center, 6278 Irvine Blvd, Irvine

01.02.2018 Hubby, Little O and I came here because it was next to the bike store (a required stop) and we just finished running some errands. We spent $29 for the three of us: 1-Regular traditional salmon poke bowl 1-Cup clam chowder 1-Baja fish taco 1-Kid’s grilled salmon plate 1-Calamari Fritti Little O was not too fond of the sauce used for the poke bowl so we took it home. I told her I’d rinse it off and take off the cucumbers, and seaweed salad. The clam chowder was the best! I would definitely come back for it. The flavor was balanced and had good sized pieces of clams and veggies. It was creamy and yummy. Little O ended up eating all of it instead of the poke. I tried the Baja fish taco on a corn tortilla. It was average. The tartar sauce did not help at all. The fish was just plain, no flavor or seasoning. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried light (not much color on the fry). It was seasoned well and tasted good as soon as it was served because it was crispy and hot. But about 10 minutes into the meal the pieces began to go limp and soggy. The aioli was good, nothing exciting in flavor. The cocktail sauce was simple, not spicy. Hubby enjoyed the kid’s grilled salmon plate. The fish was a good size and thickness, seasoned well and cooked through. He didn’t care for the battered fries that it came with. If we came back to this area, the chowder and grilled plate would be on our list again.

The Capital Grille – Menu with Prices – 801 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis

Beautiful surroundings, impeccable service, and delicious food add up to a delightful dining experience. My dining companion and I were looking for a light, hot lunch and Capital Grille delivered. I enjoyed a cup of their French onion soup, a beautiful beefy, oniony broth with a hint of Sherry topped with a chewy layer of bubbling hot gruyere. My companion had a lovely bowl of clam chowder, silky smooth and rich with cream and big fat chunks of clam. We split the shrimp cocktail – perfectly boiled shrimp served on a bed of ice with a sweet, vinegary, and spicy cocktail sauce. The bread basket was lovely with chewy rolls and fresh warm cream crackers. We finished with a a delightful, cinnamon infused apple crostata. Our server, Tom, was the definition of professionalism – Knowledgeable, the right level of friendly, attentive, and helpful.

Worcester Technical High School – Menu with Prices – 1 Skyline Dr, Worcester

Located inside Worcester Technical High School, this is a great lunch spot. Both the dining room and kitchen are run by the students under the supervision of some amazing chefs and teachers. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are more than fair. Be sure to try the homemade Clam Chowder, and ask about the daily specials. Cash only, and reservations are recommended.

Village Green Golf Course – Menu with Prices – 302 Riverdale Dr, Green Bay

Grand Reopening on December 4, 2015. New Chef and new menu! We were very excited to visit the Village Green upon reading about the reopening. We were worried it would be too busy on a Friday night but we were able to get a table right away. The layout is the same but the walls are painted and there is new lighting and soft background music. Overall a very nice experience. I had much higher hopes for the service and food but understand it was the first night they were open for business. It was awkward when we walked in. There is no indication if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We went to sit down in the corner but were told that table was for a group at the bar. We were then directed to another table. No big deal. We ordered our drinks. Waitress came back for food order before our drinks arrived. Always seems odd to me… the timing must be off… drinks and then order. We ordered and then our drinks arrived. Ordered a couple of Southern Old Fashions. They were ok. We wife bit into the plastic spear as it was poking out of both of our drinks (instead of being speared down into the drink). Again, first night issues I’m sure. We had to ask for water. Our food came out. No clam chowder. I received a 6 piece perch instead of the 4 I ordered and was charged for. They were again OK. Seems like they could have been fried at a bit higher of a temperature. May have been the intent to just lightly deep fry the fish. Ordered the fresh chips. A bit cold and all remnants… no big chips… kind of like getting the bottom of the chip bag. Tarter Sauce was great. Cole Slaw was very good. Wish they were served in the small plastic diner-wear… I feel it cheapens the meal. My wife ordered a burger with no onions and no sauteed onions. The burger came with onions. Gross if you don’t like onions. We pulled them off and she really enjoyed her burger. I then asked if I had ordered a cup of clam chowder. Waitress apologized and indicated she forgot to bring it out. I declined having it at that point since I was already enjoying my fish. We didn’t see the waitress again for a while. I had to ask a different server to bring some butter out for my Rye Bread. The bread was phenomenal. Had to flag down our waitress again later for more plastic tarter sauce. Ironically, I was offered a free drink to make up for the missed Clam Chowder… but they made a whisky old fashion instead of southern. Irony. Overall food was OK and service needs to work out a few bugs. I see real potential and would encourage others to go and leave a review and let me know what you think. The other items on the menu looked good. Very limited menu but a very interesting variety of food items. Perfect for a small local establishment. I hope to see them succeed but they will need to work on a few of the items I’ve noted above. Happy dining fellow Yelpers!
