Sam’s Meats is unique in a city filled with gigantic grocery stores and food warehouses! One star for being a great, “mom & pop,” woman owned business that caters to carnivores of all types. One star for the new location, though there really wasn’t anything wrong with the old location. It is brighter, with more windows, better lighting, and has a more upscale interior design. One star for the quality of all the products offered to satisfy all manner of carnivores as well as other treats. Sometimes I stop by just to pick up a pie! One star for the wide selection of land animals and water dwelling creatures to feast on and the sheer number of options available to rub on, dip in, shake over or marinate them. I do love their offerings! But no place is perfect, and my current gripe with Sam’s Meats is that the new place is too big for them manage. It now feels cold and impersonal and they’ve lost the friendly vibe they used to have. They can’t see the whole store hiding behind the meat counters in the back and so they no longer even say hello to their customers. It doesn’t help that they decided to focus on reducing us to numbers. You can no longer just grab something from a case or counter and walk up to the register to check out like at the old place. You can stand right in front of them with your pie or BBQ sauce and you’ll just get ignored! Forget expecting anyone to notice you or offer to help you if you are browsing around. So minus a star for running the new place like the DMV. Don’t forget your number!!

Yoder Meats – Menu with Prices – 798 N West St, Wichita

What they say! Taste The Old Fashioned Flavor ? It’s a joke of a meat butcher shop! The meats Beef Chicken Turkey It’s all delivered via truck and none of the meats are home grown from Yoder Ks.Its all supplied through all the big meat companies and pre packaged.Yes they cut the meat up out of packages but it’s not a real meat locker where they have meat hanging in the back! I wasn’t impressed and you will see that it all taste the same plain.Nothing old fashioned about it. Yes they have different kinds of cheese to cinnamon rolls that come from the main office in Yoder Ks but if you want the real experience drive to Yoder! Customer service is terrible cause all they seem to hire is young people who don’t represent the company very well.Bad attitudes with being very wasteful with the products they are supposed to be selling. I have walked into this location only see them vaping on those ecigs I wonder what they do when customers don’t come in. My viewpoint is they should hire some professional people to run this business who actually care for what they are promoting/selling of the product! If you visit this location Don’t over pay for something that you can pick up cheaper at your local grocery store!

Taqueria el Torito – Menu with Prices – 2515 Freeman Mill Rd suite b, Greensboro

If this was asked of me before i stopped comming here they may have gotten 5 stars. I will no longer come in this place. Me and my family used to go here january to May we ate 3 times a day (everyother day) $35+ a visit. I thinks its the owners daughter or sister they look just alike.. I tell them everytime i go in there she doesnt listen shes too busy speaking spanish talking junk she isnt listening. I get the same thing all the time im in there all the time well i used to be and she still say she doesnt remeber and if she does she messes the order up anyways like my smoothie. Its not that hard to be quiet stop talking junk and make the food. But shes rude. I told her the last time i was in there my family will never be there again if shes still there. I havent went back since and this was almost 2 month ago. Ik our business was just somemore money but ive told everyone ik because that girl is just so rude. Hire people who understand both languages and if they speak spanish make sure there not talking about customers while the customer is inside the store. They’ve lost my business completly.

BENTO Gainesville Midtown – Menu with Prices – 150 NW 13th St Suite 60, Gainesville

I love Bento restaurants, as much as I love living in Gainesville. I loved this location when I first visited a few weeks ago. However, on a rainy evening tonight – it was a complete disappointment. I understand that the orders can take longer as it was completely packed (long line and customers standing around throughout the hall to be seated), but I do not get how food can get undercooked (hard and chewy udon noodle) and cold (tempura shrimp was almost under the room temperature). Most disappointing aspect was the response done by the kitchen staff for Japanese curry (for curry pork katsu bowl) for my order – it was extremely watery. I believe someone decided to add more water to the near empty curry sauce pot due to high demand, resulting watered down curry. When I asked for an explanation, the hall server staff member told me I will be provided with another curry. We waited for 15 minutes without being told that it was going to take longer – when it finally came to us, our food was already cold and no longer crunchy. We wish they told us in advance. Again, taking longer to cook for each order due to high volume of customers is completely understandable. However what I have difficult time to tolerate is the practice of willing to sacrifice the quality to meet the excess of demand, just to get by one shift. I really hope this change for the restaurant soon, so I can come back again in the near future.

Don’s Meat Market – Menu with Prices – 8607 Bancroft Ave, Oakland

What can I say this is the best meat market in Oakland and one of the best in the Bay Area. The pros: meat is fresh daily, clean, friendly butchers, not expensive meat and all the meat there is tender..The Con:rough neighborhood, no seafood, some of the customers are rough looking. Besides that this place has good prime meats

Cafe Dujour Menu with Prices 3655 Perkins Rd, Baton Rouge

This place is a little gem!! I would never have known about this place because it’s literally in the inside and all the wayyyyy back of the HUGE antique store. I’m serious! I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which had alfalfa sprouts, avocado, honey mustard, a side of dill pickles, and chips for around $8. It was DELICIOUS!!! Why did no one think of this combination before!? The menu featured 10 different cold sandwiches, 10 different hot sandwiches, soups, salads, and oh so yummy looking cake balls! They had several tables and chairs which accommodated the ever growing line of people. By noon, you would see a whole swarm of people lining up to order their food. Minus one star for slow service (they only have two people working there in the Cafe) but if you come early, say around 1130am, then you will definitely beat the lunch crowd. P.S. All the customers were all business women! What a secret they have been hiding!

Harry’s Cold Cut Center Menu with Prices 98 Blackstone St, Boston

HIDDEN GEM ALERT! I’m not cheese connoisseur, nor have I been to many other specialty cheese places, but I’m thrilled about my experience at Harry’s Cheese and Cold Cuts. Let’s just say after several disappointing and expensive charcuterie boards from various restaurants, my boyfriend and I decided to make our own. I did a little Yelp research and found Harry’s, mainly through Nancy Z.’s recommendation. I was surprised to see that it was right in the Haymarket area – I’ve passed by it several times gawking at produce and being lost in the crazy crowd. After walking a couple of stairs downward into the shop, we found that we were the only customers inside. There, we saw a case of cheese, each labeled with the type and cost per pound, buckets of olives on a shelf, and a refrigerator full of soft cheeses and cold meats. Somewhat overwhelmed by it all, the girl working there was nice and allowed us to sample anything we wanted. She explained where each cheese was from, recommended different ways of using the cheese, and didn’t make us feel awkward or out of place at all. I was tempted to buy everything we tried but we left with a ton of goodies for only $16!!!! The stash included: half a pound of prosciutto ($5), a bottle of fig jam ($4), quarter of a pound of smoked gouda ($2.50), a ball of fresh mozzarella ($2), and a types of hard sheep’s milk cheese i forget the name of ($3.50) They are able to slice softer cheeses and cold cut meats to the way you like it. Harry’s even offers vehicles to eat your cheese and meats on, such as various crackers and freshly baked bread. Validated parking is available in the Parcel 7 garage for $1 an hour (for up to 3 hours), so therefore, there is no excuse not to come here and give it a shot. Winner winner cheese dinner!

Subway Restaurants – Menu with Prices – 4973-A Clairemont Dr, San Diego

This used to be the subway i went to all the time growing up. I come every once in a while now. The past two times in a row coming here i now remember having the same employee both times. I think his name was “Kian” couldnt make out the nametag. But they were unwelcoming moments. I walk in and theres only one customer and its very slow. Shes almost done. As im walking he glances at me but doesn’t acknowledge me. No greeting or anything. Im standing and waiting for about 5 minutes until he finishes up with this customer. No issue. But when he finally comes to me he still doesnt say a word takes his time and then finally stops and looks at me. Again not a word. No apology or greeting. So i had to take the initiative and start the order. As hes doing it he does it so poorly like he doesnt want to be doing it. Hes half assing and throwing whatever he grabs in his hand on the sandwiches. I hardly get any words out of him other than “is that it?” When it came to paying he just told me my total and handed me my receipt . I usually dont care about how people act enough for me to complain like this but he held that vibe the whole way through. Whatever i guess â?

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit – Menu with Prices – 4212 Stadium Dr, Kalamazoo

Finally had a chance to head over to this chain. I hadn’t actually heard about it until I went to New York and found out kzoo had their own. So naturally I had to try it out myself. I dug the interior layout of the place. Very easy to find the order counter. You can order one type of meat or a couple in a platter. So I did two meats pulled pork and brisket. I really love juicy meat and not having to rely on using a sauce. Unfortunately that’s exactly what I had to do with my brisket. Pulled pork was already sauced up, no problem. However, the meat was cold which was super weird. The brisket although dry was at least hot. The meal didn’t come with any type of bread, so I’m not sure if I was to order that on the side like I did with fries. Thank goodness I had those when I got home. I was able to use the waffle fries as “bread” pieces. However, it just didn’t hid the fact that both meats were so dry. When you are playing a lot of money like that, it really sucks to have cold AND dry food. Two stars for the drink machine though I love those.

Sam’s Club Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3201 S Louise Ave, Sioux Falls

We shop at Sam’s a lot. Maybe 2-3 times a month. I’ve always been pretty happy with the selections as well as the quality. Lately we had been using the grocery pickup and that was wonderful when they first started. But the last few times we haven’t been very impressed with the service end of the deal. Groceries used to be carted out to our van, loaded up and a receipt was handed to us. The last few times they’ve pushed the cart out, asked my name then left it all sit and walked away. I’m not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to go but it’s definitely not the friendly and thorough service we had been getting. We now just go in and get our own stuff. Which is good for my wallet because we shop way less frequently and we don’t buy as much because we don’t have time to peruse every aisle as I would have using the app. Either way we do enjoy Sams and will continue to keep our membership current. Oh and don’t forget the gas discount!

Nino’s Bakery LLC Menu with Prices 718 Central Ave, Albany

Italian sandwiches and subs are still pretty new to me. Sure, the area is filled with delis that will make you all kinds of cold cut sandwiches to order. Perhaps I was paralyzed by all the possibilities. To make a long story short, I’m triangulating my way towards a favorite cold cut sub. At this point I know that it’s not the standard “Italian Mix”. I’ve learned to ask for the “fatty cappy” which gets you actual capicola instead of the weird spicy ham that Boar’s Head makes. It’s a tragedy that so many of our best delis rely on this national supplier of processed meats and cheeses. Also specifying sharp provolone is the only way to make sure you’ll get a cheese on your sandwich that can stand up to the flavor of the cured meats. Nino’s had both of these, and sliced them to order. Sandwiches also need to have shredded iceberg lettuce, onion, oil, and vinegar in order to cut through some of that fat. Nino’s delivered on these too. And that’s important because some delis have moved over to fancier leaf lettuce that just gets lost in all of that meat and cheese. I think my sandwich may also need something else, but I’m still trying to figure that out. Maybe some other meat to round out the cappy, like perhaps a prosciutto. I’m not sure. But I can’t blame Nino’s while I figure that out. Soon, I will learn to stop asking for those sad round reddish slices that pass for tomatoes. And thanks to Nino’s for reminding me. It’s a hard lesson, but an important one. The bread was good for coalescing around the sandwich and letting the fillings be the star of the show. I got mine on a roll. But I think these Italian sandwiches really require commitment. My goal was to be moderate, however this breed of sandwich seems to be a go big or go home kind of experience. Overall, Nino’s feels more like a 3.5* Capital Region deli, but I’m bumping it up for being an old school holdout on this deeply commercialized strip of Central Avenue. It’s a deli attached to a bread bakery. They have great old sausage making equipment, and a counter where you can stand and eat your sandwich overlooking the gridlock of cars trying to navigate an especially congested part of the local thoroughfare. Although I can imagine that not everyone would be as thoroughly charmed by the joint.

Kahwa Coffee – Menu with Prices – 701 6th St S, St. Petersburg

I’ll give this tiny coffee bar at the hospital a 5/5 because it’s convenient, the coffee is good, the barista is nice, and the caffeine in their coffee does the job. +3 stars- yummy coffee. Their coffee is not the best that I have had but it is delicious and it is good. It does not have any after taste and it is smooth. They also have daily offers and happy hour. I don’t remember what exactly it was but I remember 50% off pastries after 3pm. +1 star – convenient for me because we spend a lot of our time at the hospital and it is easy to just go to this location and have a yummy hot cup of coffee to get through the 12 hour shift and the cold hospital environment. If you are at Bayfront and you need some coffee, definitely come here! +1 star – nice barista. The barista who works here is nice. She does her best to accommodate us even if she is working by herself. She also let us know that there is 10% off with a USF ID so if you have a USF ID don’t forget to avail this offer. LOCATION: it is inside the West Entrance of Bayfront. You can park in their parking garages or the 2 hour curb parking. Overall, they have good and yummy coffee. I suggest that you try their coffee.

Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea Mint Town Center – Menu with Prices – 7545 E 29th Pl, Denver

I was really excited for a new coffee shop (one that isn’t Starbucks) to open within walking distance of our home in Stapleton. We went here on opening day (today). I have to say that I am a bit upset about the experience. The cold brew coffee was fine, the location itself is stylish, airy, and bright. The people working the counters were nice enough, if a bit undertrained. We headed there with our two-year old for an afternoon pick me up…I had cold brew, my wife ordered hot “premium” tea, and we got a single macaron. Total bill – over $14 (including the $2 tip that I left). I got my cold brew in a to-go cup, and my wife orders the tea to consume there. I am not worried about the price, though I will note that the tea was around $5. So, we wait 5-7 minutes for our order…by the time we get the drinks our daughter is starting to freak out a bit and is about ready to go. We stick around another 5 minutes or so trying to let my wife drink a little of her tea, but ultimately, my daughter needs to go. I head up to the counter to ask for a to-go cup for my wife’s tea (remember that I spent $5 for hot tea). The counter helper is about to give me a cup, when some guy walks over and informs us that Sweetwaters charges for their cups…$.25. I am a bit perturbed, but say “fine”. The girl rings up the cup, and I go to pay with my credit card…they only take credit card on orders over $1. They ask if I have any cash…I don’t…so they are basically like, “that sucks for you, sorry.” So, basically I wasted $5 on hot tea that we didn’t get to enjoy, and I learned that Sweetwaters’ newest location has TERRIBLE customer service. Seriously, you can’t throw in a to-go cup on a $5 hot tea. Sad, like I said, I was really excited to have a new coffee shop close at hand. I will keep driving out to a locally-owned joint that cares about their customers.
