I’ve fluctuated in weight my entire adult life. The biggest reason for the fluctuation has been the convenience and speed of fast food. I am currently trying to take some pounds off and have been looking for healthier choices of foods while still being fast. Meal preps seem like the perfect thing for me as they are quick, easy, and healthy. The only problem with meal preps is most places are not convenient at all. Whealthy seemed like the perfect place. It is right around the corner from my girlfriends house and they have refrigerators stocked with meal preps. AMAZING! I walked in and was greeted by a nice gentlemen letting me know to ask for assistance if I needed it. The refrigerators were really straight forward and well organized. Left side small portion $10, right side large portion $15. The prices are defintely on the higher end of the spectrum, but its a retail location so I can somewhat understand the pricing. I ended up grabbing one meal from each side. They charged $2.99 for self serve coffee pump dispenser and didn’t have cup sleeves. The price for self serve and no sleeve was way too much, but I needed my morning coffee and paid for convenience. I got to work and sat down to eat their protein pancakes. These were awesome! They came with syrup, but it was totally unnecessary. They tasted so good that I was seriously questioning the calorie/macro count on them. The second meal I got was their sesame chicken teriyaki. This is the main reason for the 3 star review. The label said there was brocolli in the meal prep, but there was not. This meal cost $15 for chicken and rice. The chicken was good, the rice was acceptable, and the brocolli was non existent. I may come back here again to give it another shot as the pancakes were amazing, but the price may hold me back.

The Nile Cafe – Menu with Prices – 121 I St, Fremont

Wow. Where can you get an amazing hot breakfast for about $5? Try the Nile Cafe in Fremont’s historic Niles neighborhood. The standard breakfast comes with toast, two eggs and choice of bacon or sausage for $5.40. The portion size was just enough to get me full. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo, potatoes, eggs and cheese for $5.20. We also ordered hanfries seasoned potatoes for $2.95 and a side of blueberry pancakes. Everything was delectable and very satisfying. If you’re not afraid of caffeine, definitely order the Vietnamese coffee. Sweet, creamy and so delicious! It comes fully prepared in a cup (you don’t get the fun slow drip apparatus that you can get at other places that serve Vietnamese coffee). I didn’t mind. The taste made up for it. Bonus tip: This place is cash only! We found this out after walking in and seeing a cash only sign. We wandered around until we found an ATM at the convenience store down the street. It was worth the trip. While we were eating, we saw other customers walk in, see the sign, leave and come back with cash. Next time I’m going to try to snag the table next to the front window. So cute!

Sammy’s Stackhouse – Menu with Prices – 707 N Tustin St, Orange

I came here in search of a hearty American breakfast. They definitely have an extensive menu with plenty of options, but their main focus is on pancakes, waffles, french toast, and crepes…so basically this is a carb lover’s dream come true! We ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was a little on the dry side, but paired really nicely with their waffles, especially topped with a little whipped butter and house maple syrup! We also tried the build-your-own-pancake combination, which is an amazing value. For just $10, you can choose any two types of pancakes, sausage or bacon, potatoes or hash browns, and two eggs. I originally opted for the strawberry/banana pancakes, but they came literally drenched in syrup. Besides being way too sweet, the pancakes themselves were soggy and somewhat doughy from being undercooked. Fortunately, the staff was nice enough to swap out these pancakes for some blueberry pancakes, which were much more palatable, although still kind of flat for a place that specializes in “stacks.” Overall, the food isn’t bad, but it’s a bit reminiscent of middle-of-the-road diner chains. The service also leaves much to be desired. Our waitress was pretty good at the beginning of our meal and took our order right away, but kept forgetting to bring us simple things like a set of utensils, napkins, etc., which made us feel rather neglected. I do like how they give you carafes of coffee for your table so you can refill it yourself throughout the meal, which is a nice touch…but not sure it’s enough to bring me back! Even with the current 20% off discount for checking in on Yelp, it’s still a little pricey, plus the food just seems too rich and greasy to start your day off with.

Coffee del Rey – Menu with Prices – 1915 Central Expy #340, Plano

Wow! I lived around here for years and didn’t know there could be good places like these hidden in that corner until after I moved. It seems to be classified under hippie talk to want freshly roasted coffee but i’d argue it’s not even coffee if it’s past 2-3 weeks of roast date. Everything that’s good about coffee is gone after that time so the bags of coffee you buy at supermarkets are past the best before date. Not even organic stores sell fresh coffee. Now to this roastery. This place is awesome. The price of coffee is amazing value. The bags are black and have vents for proper storage and zip locks for convenience. The coffee tastes amazing and it’s perfectly roasted. I went on Saturday and there wasn’t much foot traffic which kinda worried me cause this place is a gem. People love to mention starbucks but wow they don’t even come close. Not even some of the better cafes in Dallas do. It’s conveniently by the highway, ample parking space, perfect outside seating due to less foot traffic and amazing coffee!

Hibachi-San Menu with Prices 2101 Bonisteel Blvd, Ann Arbor

Being in the same food-court area as Panda Express and Ahmo’s Gyros, Hibachi San shouldn’t really surprise you with its convenience. With that said, you also shouldn’t expect to be impressed. Like I prefaced, Hibachi San is a new addition to the basement of Pierpont Commons on north campus. It offers quick and convenient Japanese-style food, at prices that are pretty on par with Ahmo’s and Panda. For about $9, you can get a bowl with 2 proteins, and for $10, you can choose from 3 proteins. The price is respectable, considering that you can choose from raw fish like salmon, tuna, scallops, and shrimp, or cooked options like chicken and salmon. Their spicy salmon/tuna is actually pretty spicy, but the original choices don’t really have any flavor, though they seem to be covered in some kind of sauce. You can have your bowl served on white rice, brown rice, salad, or half and half, which is awesome! When it comes to the fish, you’re not getting Japanese restaurant quality, but there isn’t an overwhelming fishy flavor. I can’t compare to other poke restaurants, but I can say that it’s about what you’d expect from a place that serves raw fish Chipotle style. The portion sizes are pretty good, and you also get the option of adding free toppings like edamame, ginger, seaweed salad, and sometimes avocado. They also have grab-n-go options like California rolls that add some extra convenience, but probably wouldn’t be enough for a meal. Service is usually friendly and quick, and the experience is pretty much the same as it is at Panda. It’s nice to have some variety in Pierpont Commons. For the same price, though, you could get a more filling meal at Fireside Cafe upstairs. However, poke bowls seem to be all the rage these days, and Hibachi San could probably satisfy a craving. If you’re looking for quality sashimi, though, there are plenty of other restaurants that will serve fresher and better quality fish.

La Costera Grilled Chicken Menu with Prices 9755 E Montview Blvd, Aurora

This place in horrible.. I ordered a “entire” chicken which was $21 for the whole meal. After trying to explain that I didn’t want the meal just the chicken.. I was still charged $21.. instead of going through the Spanglish picture game again I just smiled and figured I would try the rice and beans.. So they give me 2 meal plates and I head home.. I open the first to see what I got and its 4 different cups of salsa. They charged the same price for a meal as it is just chicken.. So OK I just overpaid but hopefully the chicken is good.. Nope it was dry and I noticed that my entire chicken was a wing 4 legs and thigh … Which they Cleve into pieces thinking I can’t tell the different between a breast and a thigh cut into 3 pieces aka shards of chicken femur all over your plate.. Just pass there is a reason this is a tiny always empty chicken shack.. Definitely not a hidden gem

LeanFeast – Corona, CA – Menu with Prices – 540 Hidden Valley Pkwy STE 101, Corona

If you like eating healthy or just short on time, this spot hooks it up. Most meal prep companies I have heard of require you to order online and wait for delivery days but LeanFeast is a game changer. You can simply walk in, buy a meal or two or ten, and walk out. It’s like a Chipotle but for meal preps! First, you choose from their proteins (bbq tri-tip, buffalo chicken, teriyaki chicken, chicken fire, turkey patties, etc.) and specify how many ounces you’d like. Next, you pick your carbs (rice, quinoa, potatoes, etc.). Then, the veggies. You can mix and match and they give plenty. Just pay and you’re done. LeanFeast makes eating healthy convenient and easy. They also offer specialty meals, protein shakes and healthy snacks. The people that work there are super nice too. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area! P.S. – bring in your clean LF containers for 5% off!

Break Fast Grill – Menu with Prices – 310 Polk Dr, Tallahassee

We were headed home this morning and I spotted the word Break on a sign set back from the main road. Curious if the rest of the sign said Fast, we turned around to check it out.It did say Break Fast. And Buffet. Since it was still morning and we hadn’t had breakfast, we had to try it.The restaurant was new. It’s been open about a week. The building is a bit run down but the interior looked clean. There were several two-top high tables along the windows as well as regular tables and chairs in the dining room. We first sat at a high table but when the server brought over the pancakes she suggested we might prefer a larger table. Good suggestion. For $7.97 you get an all you can eat breakfast. Coffee and drinks are extra. Eggs, pancakes and waffles are made to order. All the other items were on a serve yourself buffet. You can check the website to see all that’s on the menu. Salad items were available at breakfast. Ice cream is also available all the time. The two most interesting things to note is that the sausage gravy and grits were delicious. These are two of my least favourite breakfast foods at a restaurant but I always like to sample them at a new place. Their grits and sausage gravy were delicious. The grits didn’t taste like water and the gravy had big chunks of meat in it.The server came over to see if we wanted waffles and pancakes. I ordered a waffle, Walter ordered pancakes. They were perfect. The server was exceptionally friendly and almost mother-like as she kept insisting we needed to tell her to tell the chef to ‘drop some more pancakes.’ Cold cereal and fresh fruit were also available.I am looking forward to going back here to try their lunch buffet.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken/Super Express Menu with Prices 1237 Gordon Hwy, Augusta

Ambience. B. Service. A Food. A- Price. A This special chicken is part of this Super Express convenience store on fort Gordon highway. Located 1237 Gordon Hwy across from Capri Lounge/ Executive Inn. Clean convenience store open fall 2017. The Krispy Krunchy Chicken franchise is an interesting concept offering good crispy fried lightly spicy chicken in this location. Very clean. Bright lights. Friendly service. The guy behind counter offered me a breast chicken tender which was very moist and crunchy. This was not spicy. However, I ordered 2 thighs and thought the crunch was great and meat was moist. The biscuit was nice a crunchy I the outside and moist inside. I liked to add extra honey if they had any. Too bad they didn’t have available all side. Only one jambalaya, fries and several mashed potatoes. I was wanting to try the dirty rice and the fried rice balls which they didn’t have….sigh. Wonder if there’s just not enough foot traffic and business to build up this franchise. I would go back for lunch in afternoon in future or go around 4:30- 5:30 when hopefully they just fried for the evening. Nice crunchy and hot! I’m a fan right now for the chicken and biscuit! Mmm!

Brookfield Restaurant & Catering – Menu with Prices – 704 Brookfield Rd, Ottawa

I dont think it’s possible to properly describe the awesomeness that is Brookfields. It is a family run restaurant / convenience store in what looks like a little house along a route with really no other similar businesses. They’ve been here for years! First of all, the restaurant has delicious meals and a super fast wait staff. Prices are reasonable too. Keep in mind its an old style. Not impressive to look at, and mismatched kitchenware all around, but very welcoming. The takeout side of the restaurant is filled with healthy homemade quickgrab meals like brocolli or bean salads, sandwiches, and fruit. They have the best egg bread sandwiches! The baked goods are fabulous. You must try their brownies! And of course a rotating lunch menu that is also delicious. The convenience store has lots of extras. Checkout the selection in the drink cooler including local kombucha and hard to find pop flavours. It also has a wall of homemade products like soaps and lip balms. This place is crazy busy during the day, but the staff are both friendly and super fast, so you’re always out quickly even for a sit down lunch. Highly recommend.

McWhorter Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 104 McWhorter St, Newark

Not bad at all. Really good tasting chicken, they serve amazing proportions for the cheap price. The place is cash only. It is clean, organized, and very busy during lunch time. The great thing about is that it seems to be a very local place for all sorts of law enforcement to eat at. Seems like everyone has a gun on their waist lol. Makes you feel safe. The reason why that is great though is that cops love to eat and they like to eat well. So if they flock to this place it’s because it is good and clean. I order half chicken with rice and French fries. Only thing that sucks is that the garlic spice dressing usually includes in Brazil bbq is not included you have to pay like 50cents or a dollar more I think. Not a big deal but would be nice to have that included. Other than that, I’m very impressed by everything at this place. Overall score: 4.1 Food: 4.1 Price: 4.1 Atmosphere: 4.1

Cleavers Chicago Style Flavor – Menu with Prices – 5501 E Indiana St, Evansville

Stopped in for breakfast today. Been awhile since Iâ??ve been here. Got there right at opening. I had a short stack of pancakes with a side of sausage links. Got two huge (dinner plate size) pancakes and three links of sausage. It was delicious. I couldnâ??t eat it all, but took the rest home. My wife had a half order of biscuits & gravy. She loved it and ate every bit of it. Nothing but a clean plate when she was done. Service was very friendly and quick and kept my coffee cup full. I was in and out in a little over 1/2 hour. Price was very reasonable. I need to make sure it doesnâ??t take me so long to come back. I highly recommend for breakfast.

Joanne’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1141 N Mountain Ave, Ontario

Grabbed breakfast here with a friend this morning and was immediately reminded how good this place is! It’s a classic restaurant with genuine home-cooked food at a great price. It’s a hidden gem in the city of Ontario and seemingly everyone’s go-to breakfast spot after church on Sundays. They have an extensive menu and it’s hard to choose what to order. I landed on a meat lovers omelette which came with cheese, sausage, bacon, and ham and they did NOT skimp on the meat (or cheese). It came with a side of hashbrowns and I paid a bit extra for a side of pancakes instead of toast (because their pancakes are delish). The hashbrowns were a bit basic so I will probably try the breakfast potatoes next time instead, but overall my meal hit the spot. Service was excellent and our coffee and tea were never empty. We had a lot of catching up to do and they didn’t harass us to give up our table even though they get busy. They have a decent-sized parking lot connected to the restaurant and street parking not too far for overflow. I highly recommend everyone check out this spot and say hello to the turtles and koi fish in front for me!
