The Chipotle Burger is delicious! Freshly made – no frozen patties here. The bun is some type of artisan bread…usure exactly what kind, but its perfectly soft and flavorful. There is a nice balance between the slight sweet flavor of the bread, the mildly spicy chipotle sauce and the lightly salty flavor of the meat and cheese.

Viet Subs Cafe – Menu with Prices – Monument Rd, Jacksonville

Came here for lunch due to a recommendation of a friend. It’s a small spot (probably 10 top). The lady at the register was nice. The menu is slightly smaller than other Vietnamese places I’ve been to (but maybe they pride in quality over quantity?). I ordered some spring rolls. When I checked the yelp the pictures showed a bunch of shrimp to each spring rolls. But when I got mine there was only 3 pieces of shrimp per roll AND a mix of beef or pork? I’m not sure why the switch from a lot of shrimp to some shrimp and another meat, but it wasn’t bad. In the roll had sole good fresh greens and rice noodles. Normally it comes with peanut sauce but the wife has a nut allergy so they switched it to their version of ‘sweet and sour.’ It wasn’t bad but it could have used a stronger sweet and sour flavor to it. It was a very faint flavor of a little tang/sour and some sweet. I ordered the philly (cheese) steak banh mi. At first you think they sandwich is small which technically to me it is (check picture;nickel for reference). But after I ate sandwich, I felt STUFFED! Maybe because the meat and cheese is dense? Anyways, it came with a good amount of mixed flavors. First the bread had crunch but ALSO still had chew to it (I hate hard crunchy bread). I don’t think the beef had any sauce/marinade but the combo of beef and the melted cheese they used had a good savory/steak component to it. It wasn’t to salty or anything. To add to the savory, there were julienned pickled carrots (it’s wasn’t heavily pickled/sour to those asking; it was only a slight sour with a little hint sweet, to me) and cucumbers to added the ‘freshness’ elements to it. Then there were some cilantro on it and a few pieces of jalapeños. I like spicy food but I hate the taste of jalapeños, but I like to try everything “as is” the first time, so this sandwich had some. It wasn’t bad with the jalapeños but I would still go without it in the future. But if you like them/spicy, just keep it on.

Plant Power Fast Food – Menu with Prices – 5095 Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach

Nice to have a plant based option in close proximity to our home. This fast food joint joins the growing contingent of plant based options in the Long Beach restaurant scene. Alas this menu is crafted to be based on 3 types of non meat patties. Soy based, black bean based, if memory serves there was a fake chicken patty as well. Tried their signature burgers. Bun quality was of the super cheap variety, White, wonder-bread like, but not really soft. The food here is like if McDonald’s replaced their beef patties with vegan patties and vegan cheese, and used plant based mayo as well. So what you get is affordable, guilt free fast food. Just manage expectations.

Xinantecatl Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1421 N Clovis Ave Suite 101, Fresno

Tried out this new spot. The staff is very friendly and explained the menu and specials for lunch. I ordered a double cheese burger with no onions, came with fries but no soda, I added on a soda to my order. Got my order and dug in….the meat is not fresh and had that freezer Brown look to it, very dry, tough, and salty. The bottom of the burger bread was totally soggy from the juice of the tomatoes and mayo spread they put on it. I am not exaggerating. French fries are just basic frozen crinckly fries from the grocery store. The soda was not dialed in properly as I got a mountain dew and it taste horrible. All in all I think there is too much on the menu and for that reason they turn to frozen food as most of the items on the menu are frozen fried products. A small place like this may not have the volume of a McDonald’s however they should take advantage of that and cook fresh food vs. Frozen food. If that burger was fresh hand made burger patties it would taste 10 times better. They mentioned to me that they recommend the shrimp fries, well with frozen fries I will not order them. I will try you guys again for breakfast to update my review. The customer has spoken.

Saucy’s Thai & Pho – Plano – Menu with Prices – 4152 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano

Saucy Thai gets a 3.5 star rating from me….. yelp we need half stars! I picked up a to-go order. Called it in and it was ready soon after. Ordered the crab and cream cheese wontons and a Pad Thai. Crab and cream cheese wontons were the best part!! I was surprised to see how small they were when I opened them up but there was 7 in total (~$6). The filling inside is so tasty and a perfect balance of cream cheese, crab, and a surprise of green onions, rather than a cream cheese and breading overload from most places. I think the bread is more of a phyllo dough than a wonton- which I liked better because they weren’t so hard. These were addicting! They served it with a sweet sauce and I also had a spicy sauce in my bag.. not sure if that was for the Pad Thai but I dipped the wontons in both and they were amazing!! Get you some of these!! Now here comes the part where I wasn’t so satisfied. The Pad Thai ($11).. ugh so disappointing. I got a level 3 spicy.. most of the places in Dallas when I’ve ordered a 4, man it gets you. And I’m Indian.. this girl likes spice! The 3 had absolutely no heat. NONE. This made the Pad Thai overly sweet… I had to dump some sriracha in…not a fan of sweet. Not to mention the package was filled with peanuts and tons of bean sprouts. I threw away more than half.. it was too much and looked like they were trying to fill the space. The meat was also lacking. Pad Thai should be a staple at Thai places– this one just didn’t do it for me.

Nexus Silver Taproom Menu with Prices 2641 Coors Blvd NW d, Albuquerque

The taproom has barbecue, y’all! Okay, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal, I mean, the menu’s limited, just a handful of sandwiches and a few meats by the half pound, and a smattering of sides that honestly didn’t much appeal to me, but my inner-caveman was still, like, Beer? Meat? Me happy. Like his delightfully clean craft beers, owner Ken Carson takes a safe, easygoing approach to this underrepresented cuisine, offering lightly smoked chicken and beef and a sauce that bleeds loose with vinegar, a nice balance to my burnt ends, which were a bit too sweet. The real revelation, here, is the red chile sauce, precisely what you’d hope to find in New Mexico: firm, beaming in color, and hardly spicy, whatsoever. I could eat the stuff by the spoonful, so gooooood. Oh, and the mango milkshake IPA: decadence. Way too much mango, which is exactly the way it should be.

Blu’s Barbeque & BBQ Catering – Menu with Prices – 17630 Preston Rd, Dallas

Really excited to have a great new BBQ place nearby. I stopped in for a late lunch today and just getting out of my car I was met with the delicious aroma of freshly smoked BBQ and I knew if it tasted half as good as it smelled I was in for a treat. The meat is cut to order (and weighed) in front of you and the guys are very conscious of your preferences (lean, moist, etc) and making sure you don’t get a single gram less than you’re paying for. I tried the 5 cheese Mac and cheese for my side and it was good and a generous portion. I’m a bit of a Mac and cheese snob so while I liked it I do think there’s room for improvement. It was creamy and cheesy but it was a bit bland. I’m thinking it could benefit from some pepper and seasoning salt, maybe a sharper cheddar. It just needed something to amp up the flavor. Don’t pass on it though, it’s still very good. They also had a bacon jalapeño Mac and cheese that looked great so I’ll try it that one next time. The brisket was so tender and juicy I didn’t need the knife I grabbed. Great flavor and didn’t *need* sauce but it was a good compliment to it. The regular sauce and the spicy sauce were both good. The spicy sauce wasn’t all that spicy and a 3rd option of a super spicy would be a nice addition. The dining area was very clean and a nice size. It’s not huge and it kind of gave me the feel of that small town place that all the locals know about. And they were playing Texas Country which was a smart choice! The staff was so, so, so nice. There wasn’t salt and pepper on the tables or the sauce stand (I personally think there should be) but I asked for pepper and the gentleman at the register happily got me some. I’ll be back again! Hoping they add turkey to their regular selections (selfishly) because I’m sure its awesome.

Big Storm Brewing Co. – Menu with Prices – 12707 49th St N, Clearwater

We came in and sat at the bar. I noticed that today they have a BBQ menu during lunch hour. The Queen Bee, as it turns out, was in the mood for BBQ so I said why not? Good choice; Julie was our server/barkeep. Very friendly and knowledgeable, and guided us on our way. We both had Surfline Lager, which is a strong and lovely tasting brew. It pairs well with BBQ I’d venture to say, although it was a guess at the time. Meanwhile, we looked at the options in the BBQ menu. Queen Bee had half rack of ribs with Mac n cheese and baked beans. Ribs were fall off the bone tender and yummy smoked aftertaste. Beans were totally awesome with little bits of pulled pork swimming in their awesome Key Lime sauce. Mac and cheese has never been something I liked as a rule. However this stuff was smooth and creamy. Cheddar was cut with some Gouda to get rid of that crappy yellow cheese flavor. I chose the open faced brisket with a side of fries and cole slaw. Slaw was nice, crisp and creamy; the missus is fussy about slaw but even she liked it! Fries were shoestring; not my favorite but at least they were crisp and not salted as I requested. OK: enough about sides and such; on to the brisket!!! Probably about a third pound of smoky unctuousness slapped on a piece of toasted garlic bread. I’ve never had fork tender brisket, but this is as close as I’ll likely ever find. Wow! They have four sauces to chose from…One is the above-named key lime, which has a subtly sweet flavor. They also have an oddball honey mustard sauce. It actually tasted like Big Mac special sauce, but with a kick at the end; not my first choice, but not bad. Queen Bee loves chipotle peppers, so she tried the chipotle one; she liked it. However our number one pick was their mojo sauce. Wow; best BBQ sauce I’ve had in eons!! Smoky, spicy, sweet and scrumptious. This menu is only for Friday afternoon, too! I look forward to trying their regular menu and sampling some of their other beers. Hip atmosphere, good music and great service. Way to go Big Storm!

Bigfoot Subs – Menu with Prices – 2204 W College St, Springfield

New sub shop on Route 66 / West College resides in former 50s-era former motor court office Covered and built of native stone, the surrounding cottages are being renovated. This new Cafe is much larger inside than it looks from the outside: pool table, dart board, intimate seating up front with a larger expanded area around a corner. Brand spanking new interior is super clean, the ladies running the place are sweet, pleasant, and concoct a sandwich that is way above average: giant-size bread is soft and moist, absorbs the juices and sauces perfectly, the meat is freshly sliced and topped with nice balance of cheese/lettuce/tomato. Ordered Traditional Bigfoot, wife ordered Roast Beef and cheese. They’ll warm any sandwich, too. Chips & drink combo adds $1.75. Really good. Really REALLY good taste, atmosphere, and price. Highly recommend! Only 4 Star as I wish they served fountain soda instead of canned, but you still get a soda for $1, and that’s a good deal.

Tom Friday’s Market – Menu with Prices – 3639 California Ave, Pittsburgh

Years ago Groupon had a special for this market which put it on my radar. Small, well run, meat market with weekly specials. I came for the lebanon bologne which comes out of Pennsylvania Dutch country. I also wanted the thuringer that I had as a kid that you cannot get in my hometown of Columbus Ohio. I should have come in on the first day of the sale for the thuringer because they quickly sold out by the morning of the second day. Oh well. There where 3 kinds of lebanon bologne, regular, sweet and chipotle. The chipotle is supposed to be sweet and not spicy but I got my favorite, sweet. Competently helped, my bologne was sliced thin. As a matter of fact it was sliced the best I have ever have and so patiently too because it is a pain in the neck for them. I enjoyed the Pittsburgh friendly conversation. We met Tom Friday, yes there is a Tom Friday, with his big smile and friendly demeanor. On the way out, we passed by a cooler with lots of deli items and picked up some wonderful looking deep orange cheddar cheese. They even had homemade jerky! Lots of various things that would be perfect for a night of small munchies with wine. The store itself is small, but is packed full of groceries. You want Mancini bread, they have it. Isaly’s BBQ sauce..yep. Pittsburgh Mustard..yep. Sauerkraut out of a barrel..yep. Ice Cream, yep, smoked turkey wing, yep. This is a great little store. Now for the piece of resistance, the meat. Their butcher shop has nicely trimmed meat, old school. They also have lots of freezer specials for freezers big and small. Now my freezer is 200 miles away and hubby is getting on me to “eat it down”. I am doing pretty well with it but I can tell you, when it gets low on meat, I am coming into the Burgh and grabbing some freezer specials. And Kudos to the nice young man who sliced my lunchmeat. This is worth the drive, even from Columbus Ohio!

Matty G?s Steakburgers & Spirits – Menu with Prices – 18425 N 51st Ave, Glendale

Matty G’s is a casual family restaurant with a sports theme atmosphere. The menu is mostly burgers. They use grass fed beef and serve the burgers in mostly two 4oz patties that are nicely caramelized. They offer cocktails and beer on tap and milkshakes made with frozen custard. This is a casual restaurant. You get full service at the bar but if you want to sit at a table you order and pay at the bar like any other fast casual restaurant. I went with a non-burger option and got a “birdie” platter combo. I had my choice of fried or grilled and went with grilled. The chicken was caramelized and served on a soft toasted bun. The chicken was ever so slightly over cooked but still good and was a tasty sandwich. For my side I got the onion rings. The onion rings were very hardy and very bread-ee. My husband got the “All Star” burger platter combo. His burger(s) was nicely caramelized. He received a MOUNTAIN of garlic parm fries that came with fry sauce. His only complaint is that he thought each burger patty should have a slice of cheese instead of just one slice of cheese between the patties. I think the food overall was A-OK and an A-ok is three stars. This is a neighborhood restaurant so that means that you aren’t going to travel across town to eat here. You come here if you live nearby and want something casual and not too fancy. The help were especially helpful and friendly.

Gus?s World Famous Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 308 S Diamond St, New Orleans

Gus’s has to be one of the best fried chicken places I’ve ever been to! Better than Hattie B’s in Nashville and definitely better than any other fried chicken spot in New Orleans, including Willie Mae’s. I think Gus’s is originally from Memphis, and they have a lot of stores across the nation. Despite this, they are still able to maintain high quality, great service, and a fun ambience. First off, the food tonight was AMAZING. I got the 2 piece dark meat (drumstick and leg) with mac & cheese and fries as my sides. The highlight was the leg!!! I love that there’s no batter, so the chicken isn’t too heavy. The skin is fried to perfection – so crisp and juicy, almost like a chicharron. The meat inside was also succulent and very moist. My friend had the breast, and it was the juiciest piece of white meat I’ve ever had. I also loved how the mac & cheese was down home soul food (tasted almost like kraft and wasn’t too salty, but I think that pairs perfectly with the seasoned chicken). Something about it just felt really homey and Southern. The fries were also seasoned very well; kinda like Cajun fries where they were a little salty, a little sweet, and a little spicy. I was soooo close to ordering more chicken. It’s absolutely addicting, especially the seasoning. It had a slight kick from the spices and was salty in a good way. My friend and I also shared the chocolate chess pie which tasted kind of like a lightened up brownie, but with a pie crust. It wasn’t too sweet, which I really enjoyed. However, it was pretty heavy to eat after all the chicken and carbs, so I wasn’t as crazy about it. But if you have a big stomach and like chocolate, you’ll definitely enjoy it. Service was A+. We were immediately greeted by the staff when we walked in, our server was attentive and very nice, and (who I think was) the manager walked around the room checking in on everyone. My friend and I live so close to Gus’s, so you bet we’ll be frequent fliers at this new spot. I hope they’ll be able to maintain their standards throughout the next months since they definitely set the bar high from the get-go!
