Dropped by the Frisco Fresh Market today to try the food from The Taste of Mardi Gras. I attempted last week but there was a huge line and I wasn’t sure what was on the menu. I decided before waiting in the long line I’d go up to the register and check out the menu. They had a board that listed some wonderful items however there were no prices. I picked up what I thought was a mini menu in front of the register however it was just a brochure. They were so busy because they cook to order most of what they sell I decided to look online, to no avail, and then decided to come back another time. I contacted them on social media and asked for them to post a menu with prices but to no avail. So, I dropped by today and there was no line. I was quoted a price of $8.99 a pound for boiled crawfish and saw they had put out 2 menus by the register. I purchased a 16″ Shrimp Po’boy ($21) and 3 pounds of crawfish ($27) to take home. My son really dislikes tomatoes and pickles, so we ordered the po’boy with lettuce only in addition to the garlic butter they add. When we got home my son unwrapped his po’boy to find the normal amount of tomatoes and pickles, no huge deal just disappointing, pull them off and eat it. The fried shrimp were wonderfully cooked and had a little kick added to the batter. The bread was outstanding and is from Gambino’s (if you know, you know). My crawfish were seasoned okay although we both detected a bit of sweetness that was somewhat off putting. There were a number of mushy tails, tails that were dark grey, and some that were hard. Most of the crawfish were very small, even though I realize this is early in the season I’ve had larger elsewhere here locally in the past couple weeks. When paying the premium price of $8.99 a pound for crawfish at a walk-up counter, I guess I expected more. The people behind the counter were very pleasant and conversive and I wish them well as a fellow Louisianan now Texan. P.S. Late this afternoon I got a response to my online inquiry about their prices however a bit late. I was told if you ask for “The Special” you can get the crawfish at $7.99 a pound. So far this year my standby for crawfish is a hole in the wall in Lewisville called the Bayou Market where you can get mud bugs for $6.99 lb anyday and 10 lbs or more for $5.99 lb. Waiting on Mudbugs Bar & Grill to open up soon on Hwy 423 to try them, is owned by Louisiana folks from Jennings who started out running live crawfish from LA to Dallas.

Cajun Seafood – Menu with Prices – 2707 Granby St #104a, Norfolk

Not the place for crawfish. Originally was really excited to get some crawfish take out, especially for only $5.99 per pound but was really disappointed with the quality. The crawfish looked huge but the tails inside were small and shriveled- as if they were previously frozen then over cooked. For 2 lbs I barely had enough to fill me up and the seasoning wasn’t flavorful and barely coated the crawfish. Would come and try the crab legs next time but definitely recco against getting the crawfish again.

The Cajun Table – Menu with Prices – 4510 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy suite d, Lafayette

Excellent customer service and great food!!! I stopped by for a late dinner and wasn’t sure what I wanted. I’m sure glad I ordered the nachos! They were great! The tortilla chips were cooked perfectly and were very fresh. You can tell they aren’t store bought chips that’s for sure. The cheese sauce and fried crawfish tails were great as well. Overall the flavor was on point and the dish was hot and fresh! We also tried the shrimp and bacon wrap and it was really good. My only complaint was the tortilla it was wrapped in, it was a tad stale, but overall it was a great wrap. The shrimp were cooked well and it had great flavor. I have been here before during crawfish season and you can’t beat their crawfish boil. The prices are very reasonable and all the food is fresh. I just wish they would have beer on tap. That would be the icing on the cake. Needless to say, we will be back!

Shaking Crab (Cambridge) – Menu with Prices – 1815 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

After having gone to Loui Loui (a similar restaurant) multiple times, I was excited to try Shaking Crab as I heard a lot about it. The ordering process is simple and well explained on the walls and menu: pick seafood of choice, pick a sauce (the shaking sauce is a garlicky Cajun sauce, was a good choice for me), decide on a spice level (hot was sufficient for me, I usually like spicy foods), choose your add-ons. The prices on the menu are per pound, so you can order the amount that is right for you. You should consider the ratio of seafood flesh to shell when deciding on your amounts, 1 pound of shrimp is way more than 1 pound of crawfish because of the amount of shell. I liked the Shake It Up add on option as it adds 1/2 a pound of shrimp and a side of fries (good fries, I stole some from my friend). They also have $10 pitchers for the drinkers. A huge reason why I am giving 3 stars and not 4, is because the crawfish I ordered tasted really off/odd, they were supposed to be live crawfish, but they tasted really unfresh. For a seafood place, that is really unacceptable since that’s supposed to be the star of the meal. The shrimp and snow crab legs were perfectly fine.

Bay Seafood Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 23201 Aldine Westfield Rd, Spring

Dim lighting which is fine on a hot day and otherwise nice setting for the place. Bathroom a mess with one toilet that did not flush. Crawfish prices were not in the menu. Waiter started 5 pounds for $25 so I got 5. Menu said corn and potatoes included with crawfish and shrimp, waiter said not true and menu didn’t say it. Crawfish didn’t taste like they were all boiled together. Also came with corn and extra potatoes waiter took back because she said its not supposed to come with crawfish. Asked for extra seasoning it had been wet. Got bill it said $35 for crawfish. Waiter said that’s what she said and you can read it for yourself on the sign which is at the register so if you’re eating there you won’t see it until you leave. Didn’t even look at us when she was taking about it then turned back and continued talking with coworker. She knows I didn’t see sign because I asked her if they had crawfish and them I asked how much. She didn’t have anything to write down order. Asked several times what I was having so she could remember. Either she’s new or they are telling customers anything to make money. Either way she is the reason for my dissatisfaction and 2 stars. If waiter was better I would’ve gave 3 stars because boudin balls were delicious. And shrimp embrochette was ok would’ve been better if jalapenos were fresh.

Highland Fish Market – Chenoweth Square – Menu with Prices – 3941 Chenoweth Square, Louisville

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews, you’ll know I’m a big seafood fan. Growing up in Florida, I can’t seem to get enough. Which is why I’m so happy the locally owned Highland Fish Market exists here in Louisville! This small shop has a great looking selection of fresh fish, oysters and even live lobsters! We came in looking for lobster tail and crab legs, and went with their frozen two 4 oz. tails for $19.99 ($17.99 deal online), and snow crab legs for $11.99/lb. After the four crab leg clusters and two lobster tails we purchased, our total came to $36.05 after tax. I’ll take it! In store, you’ll also find a great frozen selection as well, with crawfish tails, oysters, mussels, etc. So much of which our local grocers don’t offer. They even have specialty olive oils, sides and dips you must check out! Perfect stop if you’re hosting a gathering, as many things are already prepared and ready to go. Highland Fish Market also offers online deals on a ton of different seafood selections, from cuts of fish, to crab legs, to fried oysters, and SO MUCH more. Always check their online deals before heading in! You can even order in advance online and select your date for pickup in-store. The staff definitely knows their stuff when it comes to the products they offer. I’ve always had a friendly and positive experience with the folks who own and operate Highland Fish Market. I’d be a more frequent customer if the prices weren’t out of my budget, but I suppose it’s the price we pay in a landlocked city ? Looking forward to cooking up our lobster and crab legs!!!

Cajun Meat Co – Menu with Prices – 2211 Roswell Rd #150, Marietta

If you’re looking for authentic Louisiana meats and as well as crawfish boiled and live…this is the place! We just recently moved to the Atlanta area from Louisiana and miss Louisiana food and we have searched everywhere and nothing comes close to this place. They have a nice selection of Louisiana meats and seasonings. The owners are very nice too and from Louisiana. They love helping their customers. We ordered 15 pounds of crawfish from them and they were HUGE and AFFORDABLE. A lot of people in Atlanta like to charge $7-$10 a pound for crawfish and Louisiana natives know better than that. Their prices are just like back home!

Shenanigans Kitchen and Cocktails – Menu with Prices – 4612 Quincy St, Metairie

I have ordered from them twice before and the food was good – burger, quesadilla, and onion rings. I ordered a 2 shrimp poboys and onion rings. We were astonished to find a shrimp poboy without fried shrimp. They were grilled or baked or something else. The onion rings were $7.75 for 10, yes 10. Absolutely a rip off. I went back to the DoorDash app and rechecked to male sure I did not order wrong but there is nothing but the size of the poboy and if you want cheese. Don’t think I will ever order from there again.

Crawdad’s of Dallas – Menu with Prices – 2701 Fondren Dr, Dallas

Crawdad’s catered our company event and I’d be glad to recommend them to anyone considering Cajun food/crawfish boil as a party theme. They have a great catering menu and there is more than crawfish. We ordered crawfish for 30 and got a really good price per pound. For parties, you need to order 1 week before the event to ensure you get the most recent market price. We opted to get our crawfish cooked and ready to eat although you can hire them to cook the live crawfish at your location. If you get it precooked, it’s much cheaper. The food came in Styrofoam coolers that kept the crawfish hot until serving time. They were medium-large sized crawfish with lots of Cajun seasoning. The new potatoes were super creamy and the corn was so sweet and tasty. Definitely check them out! They’re the only crawfish caterer that will deliver to DFW locations.

Cub’s Crawfish – Menu with Prices – 4145 Barrancas Ave, Pensacola

Authentic. Nola style. crawfish. boil. Put some south in yo mouth! This is the real deal crawfish shack. Out back this restaurant is a open air cook shack where all the magic happens, they go in early, prepare the fresh crawfish, let them soak for several hours to get that deep flavor everyone craves when craving authentic New Orleans crawfish boil! Woohoo! Laissez les bons temps rouler! The inside of this establishment doesn’t disappoint either. Still very new inside, professionally designed in a New Orleans style fun Madi Gras decor, small bar area & some picnic tables with lots of hot sauce & paper towels on the tables ready for your Cajun seafood feast! Crawfish by the pound, fresh gulf shrimp by the pound, mixed, whatever you like. The fresh shrimp come right out the gulf, are large & super succulent, comes with tator & corn, or you can just get it by the pound. They also have fabulous gumbo, red beans & rice & crawfish étouffée. Both come with amazing garlic bread. WOZA!! We loved everything. Growing up in & around Nola when I was a kid we had many many crawfish boils, too many to count! Love me some good spicy crawfish boil & this place does it right! Totally dope. So good, we went two days in a row bc of their limited hours! Make sure you call ahead I think they are closed on Mondays & Tuesday’s & close early as well, 8PM! The cutest thing about this place is when you get done making a complete mess of yourself, walk on over to their big cool vintage sink in the dining room & wash your hands up with their custom made sugar & lemon scrub!!! It’s so fab! You will smell better when you leave than when you got there! Lol :)) Tiny place. Limited menu, limited hours, beach-town chill, super cold beer comes in a can, OUTSTANDING fresh boiled crawfish & shrimp !!! “Love you guys! Again, your crawfish is BOMB! We can’t wait to see y’all again!” Highly recommend! :)’

Zimmer’s Seafood – Menu with Prices – 4915 St Anthony Ave, New Orleans

I used to love this place when we first tried it. However, the fried oyster poboy I got during my most recent trip still had pieces of oyster shells in it! I was very disappointed when I took a bite and almost chipped a tooth! The cooks at this place need to do a better job in extracting the oysters from their shells or else it may end up a lawsuit! Other than that incident, the rest of my poboy was okay. It seemed a little dry than normal; it needed more remoulade. Also, after having Parkway’s poboys, I am no longer a fan of the bread that Zimmers’ uses. It didn’t have that nice crunch I longed for. Overall, this place is not bad if you’re going for the size of the poboy, but they’ve jacked up their prices and now I don’t think it’s worth going to anymore.

Jimbo’s Seafood Menu with Prices 8911 south Tiger Bend Road, Baton Rouge

I must admit I was spoiled living so close to Jimbo’s when I first moved to town, but now I truly appreciate the quality they offer. After moving across town, I tried a lot of closer places for crawfish…you know the story “I have a cousin that gets crawfish” or “I swear this place has the best prices”…and every time I’ve wished I had just driven to Jimbo’s. Alas, in my old age, I’ve learned to go with what you know and the people who never waiver on quality. Jimbo’s is locally owned, which is a huge bonus in my book as well as an honestly run place of business. If the crawfish are fragile, they’ll let you know. If they’re small, they’ll let you know. These guys are by far some of the best people to do business with that I can think of….matter of fact, perhaps I shouldn’t be letting the cat out of the bag on this spot…too late now, I guess. Even if you are looking for boiled crawfish or shrimp, Jimbo’s will treat you like family. They are seasoned well and really have that South Louisiana flavor that I’m sure most of you appreciate. Don’t be fooled or be lazy drive to Jimbo’s or just end up looking crazy!!

Cajun Boys & Our Poboys Menu with Prices 2673 Valleydale Rd, Birmingham

we have eaten at the Pelham location several times and been pleased and we excited they were opening a location near our house. We are there twice the first week and it was great, since then every visit has been a disappointment. Problems have varied–one time I ordered the fried shrimp which I generally love–2 of the shrimp were warm at best, the rest were room temperature. My husband likes their roast beef sandwich–the last time he got it, it was half the size it usually is (and no he didn’t order a half sandwich). We haven’t gone back in several months until our son came home and wanted crawfish last week. We went to Cajun Boys and asked if they had boiled crawfish that day and they said they did so he ordered it. Two and a half pounds for about $22–not a great deal but not too bad. It came with 1 small new potato, 1/2 ear of corn and 1 mushroom. The worst part was, the crawfish had apparently been boiled sometime way in advance and reheated. They were so soft that it was really hard to peel them and the meat was in tiny pieces. I guess we should have asked if they had crawfish that had been boiled on location and that day. I got a salad and added grilled shrimp–an extra 4-5 dollars. The salad looked like about a head of shredded lettuce, a few tomatoes and 5 SMALL shrimp. We have decided that was the third strike and we won’t be going back–a shame since we need a restaurant of that type in the area.
