Cafe Culinaire is easily one of the hardest places to get into in Bellingham, but it’s totally worth the effort and the wait. This international buffet is operated by BTC’s Culinary Arts Program, and its limited hours and small size make it almost impossible to actually experience. In fact, I’ve only done so twice myself (and I’ve lived here for almost 20 years). Each week, the Culinary Arts team creates a new menu and runs Cafe Culinaire like a fine dining establishment for prices that your grandparents probably paid for a 5-star meal back when they were in their dating years. In other words, not only is the food good here, it’s amazingly affordable. They aren’t open during the summer, by the way, so keep your eye on their website for their next opening date and clear your schedule – ‘cuz Cafe Culinaire waits for no one!

Anacostia Arts Center – Menu with Prices – 1231 Good Hope Rd SE, Washington

Art-drenaline Cafe is a local coffee shop in SE DC right in the heart of historic Anacostia. It’s in the very back of the Anacostia Arts Center, which is a very cool art gallery/shopping space with free wifi and seating. It’s beautiful! Art-drenaline Cafe is the only food spot inside the arts center. They serve coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stopped in for coffee on my way to a meeting. Their menu is beautifully decorating the walls and the seating area is beautiful with plenty of space and free wifi. Each table talks about supporting local business in SE DC. The staff is very friendly and passionate about what they do. My latte was okay. It wasn’t smooth and rich like some other DC coffee shops, but it got the job done. I haven’t been yet for lunch, but I hear it’s amazing!

Mezzaluna Bakery – Menu with Prices – 202 West 7th St, Santa Rosa

Oh, Franco American, I don’t have enough kind words for you. Even though I have never been by every time my family is in Santa Rosa my mom goes out every morning and returns with a loaf of fresh, fluffy, flavorful sourdough. My earliest memories include chowing down on their sourdough with my grandparents, slathered with butter. My grandparents lived a block away in the fifties, and enjoyed this bread on the daily. My grandma even used the French bread in her thanksgiving turkey. No bread compares to Franco Americans sourdough, and if you think differently FIGHT ME. Franco American, PLEASE sponsor me. (Even though I only have like 100 Instagram followers). To conclude their bread is a loaf of goodness no one should go a lifetime without trying. Just to show how delightful their bread is I eat about a half a loaf every day we are visiting SR. Once my mom even packed a loaf in her suitcase to bring home to NY. No regrets on her part. Update: I have since been by Franco American. I envy those who live within a blocks radius to the bakery as they have the absolute privilege of having the aroma of a 24 hour burning sourdough scented candle lighting up theirs lives. The staff is also very friendly.

The Common Table Garden Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2234 W Market St, Louisville

Lunch always tastes a little better when you add a dash of social justice. Common Table is a culinary arts training program led by Catholic Charities and the very competent chef instructor Hank Levitt. Lucky for you and me, they throw their trainees into the proverbial fire by serving a very tasty and affordable lunch twice a week. The menu varies, but the results are consistently worth a trip to West Market. I became aware of Common Table because they have been offering exceptional quiches, breads, and other delicacies at the Schnitzelburg Farmer’s Market this summer. They also do catering. The social mission is a very good one. Here in Louisville, there exists a shortage of competent, trained kitchen labor. At the same time, there are refugees, former inmates, and other Louisville residents in need of job assistance. This operation helps solves both of these issues. On my most recent visit, we were introduced to two graduates of this program that have found work at Farm-to-Fork Catering. The best part? The good food. The kitchen uses a lot of fresh produce grown by refugees in a sister program’s incubator farm. And although the program sustains itself through profits, the prices they charge are extremely reasonable. And if you come down to their campus, they will be glad to fill your belly and tell you all about how it works.

Cevallos Lofts – Menu with Prices – 301 E Cevallos St, San Antonio

Southtown livin’! The Cevallos Lofts are a fairly new apartment complex located right next to La Tuna and Blue Star. It’s a pretty large place, with a nice pool in the center of the apartment complex. The apartment complex has limited parking for the number of residents who live here. It can be especially frustrating when there’s an event going on at Blue Star or around downtown! Fortunately, they have lots of bike racks. The complex is always clean, picked up, and feels safe. There is ample security to keep things safe around here. The common areas are always nice and well lit. They offer a gym and areas to hang out with large tables and chairs. The pool is nice, with lots of places to lounge out in the sun. It’s located right in the center of the complex, with a few different areas to swim or hang out. The pool water is clean, and the place is picked up. The units are attractively decorated, with modern appliances, and plenty of room. The fixtures all work, and it’s a nice complex! It’s only a few years old, so all the interior stuff looks sharp! The best part of this complex is its proximity to cool places to hang out! It’s stumbling distance from La Tuna and right across the tracks from the Blue Star Arts Complex. Right around the corner is Say Si- another arts group. The train tracks go right behind this complex, but you get used to the rumble of the Texas Eagle chugging by on the tracks behind this place. The complex is pet friendly! Woof! Meow!

The Dragon Chinese and Sushi – Menu with Prices – 2846 Palm Ave, Hialeah

This is a little gem here in the heart of Hialeah! Iâ??ve ordered from here several times but had never visited the establishment. Today was the first time My boyfriend and I went in person. I was greeted by the cooks and was told to sit anywhere Iâ??d like! My server was a young blonde lady and she was beyond words sweet. She checked up on us every 10 minutes and provided us with anything we needed. She was an absolute doll and I could tell that she enjoys working at this establishment. I hope it stays open for a long time, I totally recommend this place. P.S, the prices are super cheap and the food is SOOOOO tasty! super huge portions too. I would much rather come here than sushi sake. Keep up the great work guys!

The Commander’s Shellfish Camp – Menu with Prices – 7579 A1A S, St. Augustine

Wow! This restaurant slash bar slash seafood market really delivers! My mom and I were visiting my grandparents in Florida when we decided to check out this joint for dinner one evening, and even they, Florida transplants going on 30 years, were amazed. They said it was the freshest, tastiest seafood meal they’d ever had! We started with beers and 1 lb. of steamed shrimp served chilled. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, easily to peel, and had the flavor and texture of fresh seafood. Just fantastic. We also shared a crab cake (the remoulade stole the show with that one) and salads (better than your standard side salad in my opinion), both solid choices. My grandparents had blackened fish and grilled shrimp, which they thoroughly enjoyed, and my mom and I shared fried fish and shrimp. The fry batter was so thin and crispy, perfectly complimenting the delicate, fresh fish. The restaurant was very crowded, so the service wasn’t superrrr quick, but everyone was friendly. I highly recommend sitting outside if it’s cool enough – watching the sunset while chowing down on fresh seafood serves serious Florida vibes! DEFINITELY recommend Commander’s Shellfish Camp to Floridians and tourists alike!

Palenque Grill IH-35 – Menu with Prices – 4615 San Bernardo Ave #5719, Laredo

I can’t say enough good words for this place. The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. Angelo was our server, he was very meticulous about caring for us, even down to the funeral points of which side to serve from as well as how to serve food and drinks without reaching over one’s food and asking permission before engaging. The prices were awesome. It was my birthday and I was working out of state, so they made my birthday away from home a very memorable one. I wanted a steak, a very good one, and Angelo saw to it by cutting and cooking it himself. I’ve had the notorious $100 steak at Snoqualmie Lodge; it was good, but THIS was better beyond a reasonable doubt. I will definitely be back again. Thank you for a great culinary experience.

Bayside Church Blue Oaks – Menu with Prices – 10000 Alantown Dr, Roseville

My family & I have been in Bayside (Blue Oaks campus) for 3 years now and started attending in Bayside GB since 2006 then came back from Bay Area 3 years ago. Here’s why 5 stars! 1st star- for Bible base (practical teachings/lessons) 2nd star- for my kids love their children’s church their fellowship is not only fun but they have compassion & a heart for the kids (kudos to ALL the VOLUNTEERS) and also their lessons are in-syc with God’s Word. 3rd star- for awesome worship team ( they maybe too modern for others but for me their very good on what their doing) shout out to Kayla, Corbin & Morgan! 4th star- for having a nice & cool cafe! They serve FREE coffee between 7-8:30 am weekdays & cafe donates 1k every month on certain charities & causes! And also, Where can you find a “huge tree” inside a building & an indoor park/play yard that is clean & safe! 5th star -Pastors & staff are great leaders! I salute the staff in most of the Children’s ministry, and btw they have a church/fellowship for (special kids/disabled kids) I noticed that the the culture of Bayside was very Dynamic, Compassionate, they’re very good in Serving others & making a Positive Impact to the community! I think for me, if my kids excitedly loves to come here without forcing them or drama (they even remind me that they “don’t want to be late” every Midweek fellowships & Sunday services) then they must have been doing good, very good with my kids, my nephew, niece & family friends kids!

Manhattan Ballroom Society – Menu with Prices – 150 E 76th St, New York

Manhattan Ballroom Society is FANTASTIC. I agree with the other reviewers: Stephen Dane is an exceptionally talented instructor. He is not only a brilliant dancer, but a warm, intelligent and sensitive human being – such a rare combination in the world of performing arts. I studied with San Francisco Ballet for many years, and Mr. Dane is by far the best dance teacher I have ever encountered. It is a miracle that his classes are so affordable. I highly recommend Manhattan Ballroom Society – for private lessons leading to a special event, for group classes, for the Friday brush-up dance parties – but most of all, for the careful, detail-oriented, masterful instruction by Stephen and Nancy. Bravi!

Bowdies Chophouse – Menu with Prices – 320 E Michigan Ave, Lansing

We had our first dining experience at Bowdies Oct 12 2019. And they did not disappoint! We knew to make reservations a week in advance, so did that for our party of 4 ( celebrating a birthday). We arrived and were ushered right in to our quaint little table in this cozy warm little restaurant. I emphasize this because this is a small establishment and you will want to keep your group small and always consider a reservation. Smiling staff all around greeted us. Our server Ellie came right away and recited to us the history of Bowdies and what we could expect…we appreciated and enjoyed this. Ellie was top notch and lovely throughout the evening, without fail. We enjoyed drinks, prickly pear margherita, 18 yrs old scotch, cabernet. Onto apps, shrimp cocktail, crab cake (deconstructed), grill caesar. Entrees- 10 oz beef filet, ribeye, lobster, sides of brussel sprouts with pork belly, potato augratin. Desert, pumpkin pie, chocolate cake and a surprise brownie cake for the birthday boy the didn’t forget! A stellar, on point meal. Plain and simple. And we know a good steak house meal. See my photos…Service and management and kitchen clearly have their act together. Now, 1 suggestion…tweak the interior, a little better, richer, more lush dining room to meet the beautiful quality of your food and service. There, I said it. Next, I know there’s been a few comments about the prices here…tis true. But these are the prices you pay for this caliber of food and service people. You’ll find it in Chicago, Las Vegas, LA, NYC…you get what you pay for. But yes this is downtown Lansing. I just hope and pray that we CAN have nice things here…and support this fine little jewel for many years to come. Highly recommend!

Martha Lou’s Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1068 Morrison Dr, Charleston

No one stays in business for 35 years without doing something right. Being a staple in a changing town doesn’t get any easier but with the new construction in the area and the “digital minded” residents; Martha Lou’s Kitchen has been a cornerstone in the ever evolving Charleston, SC area. I initially learned of this place on a lazy Saturday when I was channel surfing. Featured on the Travel Channel with Anthony Bourdain, I looked it up on Yelp and had it bookmarked for some time before actually visiting. My dining companion & I were handed menus with the options available…but no prices were listed. I said welp, we here so may as well roll with the punches. I opted for chitterlings and our hostess was kind enough to allow me to sample them to make sure I’d like them. For my 3 sides, I chose macaroni & cheese, collard greens and corn bread. For dessert I enjoyed the peach cobbler. I washed down all this delicious soul food with some sweet tea. Now, I’m no coffee drinker but this sweet tea definitely gave me a jolt of energy. Quaint dining area with a few fans blowing. Walls are adorned with newspaper clippings and photos of famous guests who’ve sampled her fare. Self taught and maintained, this mother of 9 was happy to talk with me during our visit. She was sitting right in the doorway welcoming regulars and new guests as they entered. There’s even a guest book to tell where you’re visiting from and any kind words you’d like to leave. If in the area, I’d definitely return. I enjoyed all of my options and was happy with the portion size. Of note, meals are/were served on disposable ware but I was unphased by it as some folks dishwashing skills are questionable. The total for two meals was very affordable and if you’re skeptical about what it’ll costs you, just ask. Everyone was very pleasant and accommodating. Great visit overall.

Cafe at 6300 – Menu with Prices – 6300 Collins Ave, Miami Beach

Was not given a pleasant experience at this cafe. I had 2 eggs and coffee from what I saw on the menu cost 6$ and for some strange reason the recipe that came after my meal said 15$, my meal was not altered at all I think I got less then what the 6$ meal cost but was forced to pay 15$. I was not served in a plate but in a to go box and after I asked why I was being charged so much he responded with “you pay what I charge you ” in a very uncomfortable way. The owner threw receipts at me to show me who paid because he make them from what he said. This place is not a place locals need to spend money at. Please review it for yourself if your a local.
