For those who don’t know, “Soondae” is blood sausage. It was traditionally eaten by peasants in Korea when food was scarce. In the modern day it is a popular street food served with steamed pork liver, lung and an eclectic collection of ear cartilage that have various textures for the palate to enjoy. This establishment is has good food in all front especially the Soondae Soup and my favorite- the “YukGaeJang”. Not a high end place by any means, it sticks to its authentic roots in wholesome street food type of dishes that regular and soju drinking Ajushi’s patronize. The only issue is the flies. Every time I go there, we had to constantly swat away the flies so they don’t sit on our side dishes. When I brought it to the staff’s attention, they seemed more nonchalant about it since it is commonplace there. Overall, I would recommend ?

So Moon Nan Wang Jok Bal – Menu with Prices – 8911 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove

I always like to pick up some soondae when visiting my parents, and now this place is my go-to. I can’t remember how I found out about it (Yelp, most likely), but they serve up some seriously good stuff here. Located in the food court inside the Garden Grove H Mart, it’s run by a very nice middle-aged Korean lady and her cohorts. The soondae here is always fresh and they give you a lot per order. After having tried their soondae a few times I decided to give their jok bal (pigs feet) a try. I did not eat a lot of jok bal growing up so I’m not that familiar with it, but after reading the glowing reviews (and seeing the pictures) I wanted to see what it was all about. Well, it’s probably still a taste sensation that might be a bit off the beaten path for most, but I really dug it. I loved the seasoning and the chewy texture of the skin, plus all the condiments you combine it with to suit your personal taste. I’m a fan! Now I get their $30 soondae and jok bal combo whenever I visit the parentals. FYI, the name roughly translates as “Famous King (Giant) Pigs Feet,” which sounds a lot better in Korean. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Legit soondae and jok bal served with a smile (and perhaps a prayer) in a convenient food court.

Bakery Del Bajio – Menu with Prices – 2905 S Euclid Ave, Ontario

FLIES . . . They feed on fecal matter, discharges from open wounds and sores, sputum, and moist decaying organic matter. You can find this bug anywhere filth and decay live, such as dumps, sewers, garbage heaps, dead animal carcasses, dumpsters, trash cans, etc. Because of this attraction to filth and rot, flies spread bacteria. They are strongly suspected to transmit at least sixty-five diseases to humans. Among them are typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera, poliomyelitis, yaws, anthrax, tularemia, leprosy and tuberculosis. Do I even need to get into the fact that flies regurgitate their stomach contents onto the food they eat so their stomach acids can dissolve food matter and make it possible for them to suck it in through their straw-like mouth? I think you get the point. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Want some on your conchas, tortas, menudo etc? I know I don’t. Well, their employees don’t seem to care. I am never coming back to this place!!! This is not my first time at this panadería, nor the first time I see flies in their store. Except last time the cashier seemed to care a little bit more than today’s cashier/ employee. Today a few flies were in the store, bread was uncovered on some silver shelves and the flies were on the bread. I informed the lady who was at the cashier and she was super nonchalant and said “Yeah, it happens, especially if people don’t hurry in the flies come in and if you don’t hurry and choose your bread in the covered shelves they’ll go in there as well.” So I asked her “Do you guys have a fly problem?” Considering it’s not my first time witnessing flies in this store, and she said “Yeah, but I mean sometimes it’s worse than others.” I couldn’t believe her!! Honestly, my thoughts, if this is what’s happening in the front of the store, where customers can witness and flies are standard… can you imagine what goes on in the back?!?!?! I really hate to do this, but people can get sick from this, this is not funny!!! I’m quite pissed off and feel guilty watching all these people walking in and out of your store, buying food from you, whole heatedly trusting your sanitation. Take some responsibility for your business and tackle this issue. And it’s a freaking shame because their bread is actually good and the place is so close to home. I’m gonna have to find a new panadería, even if it’s further or until they fix this issue.

Oasis Tea Zone – Menu with Prices – 519 6th Ave S, Seattle

I’ve been coming to Oasis since middle school and do I’m familiar with the place. And I can tell that oasis’s quality has been going down. I ordered a royal milk tea and it tasted disgusting surprisingly enough. I already knew the drink’s quality wasn’t the best and was going downhill but this is a staple drink. For it to taste so bad after every sip I took I was disappointed. I had to throw it away. The boba along with it had no flavor either, I wish they soaked it in something. For the price of the drink, it was not worth it. It was way too expensive for what quality was given, you’re better off drinking anywhere else in Chinatown. Now for the wait time for the drink. Way too long. It wasn’t even busy, there was no one in front of me in line when ordering. The wait should not be long especially since they pre make their drinks already. You would think with pre made drinks it would be faster but no, you can just see the workers in the back conversing, which I’m not mad about, but if there are drinks to be made then do it. Also this is just a peeve that I have. Why are there just so many flies everywhere. I’m tired of trying to swat them away in the middle of a conversation.

Seoul Soon Tofu – Menu with Prices – 3191 W Colonial Dr, Orlando

Was not easy debating the stars to give this place but I don’t feel like it’s a five star store. It needs some improvements for sure, because I have definitely been to better Asian markets in Florida. If you haven’t been to a lot of Asian markets, especially Korean ones, this place will seem awesome to you but I promise you there are better ones than this. I enjoyed my bibimbap that I had at the little food court off to the right when you first come in. I got a lot of food and it tasted great. The food court was lively and poppin which is a good sign. My mom had sundubu jigae which was also good. I was able to find a table right away. I did have to swat at a few flies quite a few times so I think they need to take some extra measures to prevent the flies from coming in. I also saw flies flying around while walking through the aisles and even saw dead ones lying on products. Not good. I also saw quite a few opened products lying around. I didn’t really like the low and dreary lighting. It felt very drab and depressing. The aisles also had a lot of boxes and carts lying around with no one attending them. It was difficult maneuvering around them especially with other customers around. There were also very few workers around to ask questions if you needed to and some even seemed unwilling to answer questions. This store definitely doesn’t put any emphasis on customer service. There was one young girl who was happy to help me find the price of one item though. Also, even though this is called Lotte Plaza (Lotte Corporation is a major corporation in S. Korea), it’s not really a “Korean” theme grocery store. It has other Asian products and many of the workers could not speak Korean. It is no different than any other general Asian grocery store. Also keep in mind this store is in a very low income neighborhood. It’s definitely not a very exciting town to be in…

The Dog House Tulsa – Menu with Prices – 3711 S Harvard Ave Suite A, Tulsa

This place has moved and is reflected by the new address. I liked it better when they had the brick and mortar building going on. I came here recently and ordered a couple of hot dogs out of the truck. This was the first let down as we had been told they had a new brick and mortar shop. It wasn’t open. We sat at some pick-nick tables nearby and were immediately swarmed by the flies from the garbage can near by. It was awful. Flies everywhere and we would get an occasional whiff of some terrible smell. Aside from the location and flies, the food was good as I remember. I would always get their stuff if they had a cart going at the BOK Center, as it easily blows away the rest of the food there. I just hope they get the new building going and get some practices in place to keep the flies out.

Clover Food Lab – Menu with Prices – 360 Longwood Ave, Boston

Clover has slowly but surely turned me into a regular! I love the variety of veggies and have felt much healthier and more energized after eating here. Longwood options are definitely not the freshest otherwise, especially if you’re eating the same thing every day… I order through the app and even come in for breakfast when I can. My favorite lunch option is the the japanese sweet potato platter! and the sunchoke mushroom sandwich and the Brussel sprouts platter! But those are seasonal, so otherwise I’ll get the meatball or eggplant platter. Today I was a bit disappointed at the amount of eggplant I got — coming here in the past I’ve come to expect 2-3 YUGE slices, but today got only 2 small pieces. I didn’t want to be That Guy, what if they were changing the portions? What if the eggplants just came in small today lol? But, I mentioned it to someone taking orders near the front, and they agreed and nicely/quickly helped me get more! So I mostly wanted to write this to say if you’re feeling some type of way about your order, I had a good experience with letting someone know ? Thanks clover! Also while I’m here, I love the egg and roots morning breakfast bowl but find it kind of strange that the egg and potato are warm but the roots and sauce are cold. I wish it was all warm? I also wish the app had a check box for “No pita” with soup because I don’t want the pita but always forget to type it in the notes box.

Osteria da Nino Italian Ristorante Menu with Prices 2900 S Quincy St, Arlington

We were a small group that came in for an early dinner, at first service was slow but we were not in a hurry and it was early. We all noticed fruit flies all over the place, in front of us, falling into our drinks, etc, many of us spent the afternoon/evening trying to catch and kill fruit flies. We noticed the manager/owner and he never came over to apologize. Some of us had to get new waters or other drinks due to the flies falling into the drinks. It was a very uncomfortable eating experience. The food should get 4 stars, since we all thought the food tasted good, but were unable to enjoy the restaurant. 3 of us had a higher price on the bill than shown on the menu for some items, this was corrected. I’m very disappointed at the manager / owner and wait staff for not doing something about the flies, and at least offer us a coffee or dessert for just sitting there, competing our meals and having our business. One waitress thought it funny when we told her that we’re busy killing flies. None of us are coming back and we’re in Shirlington very often.

Los Bellos Portales – Menu with Prices – 108 Columbia NE Dr # A, Columbia

I have a problem, I generally love Mexican food and Los Bellos claims to have authentic Mexican food so of course I’m going to try it. When we went to the place it looked close, there was only one other couple sitting in the restaurant that seats about 40 on a Friday night. Still we decided to get a seat anyhow and ordered six dishes off the la carte menu, a couple tacos, a tamale, and an empanada. And then we waited, and waited, and waited… After what appeared to be 45 minutes our food started to come out one dish at a time. I know you want me to tell you how the food is, but first I have to say one thing the server/host was super friendly and created a wonderful atmosphere as we waited for our food making the wait a little more pleasant. And now the food was a mixed bag on the one hand it was extremely authentic and very good, and on the other hand he came out very slow, and still then on the other hand or should I say foot, there was a bug in the lettuce of my empanada. I didn’t want to bring that up the bug issue, because the food was fantastic this service is very good and the handling of the problem (the bug,) was handled very well. I’m only giving Los Bellos three stars and would’ve given them four stars if not for the bug issue. I would’ve never thought that I give a restaurant such a high rating. After having a bug in my food but, Los Bellos has some of the best authentic Mexican food in Columbia, South Carolina. There was one other problem that I did not mention. The oil in their the fryer needed to be changed. I did feel like this was a major issue other than the food having a bit of an after taste. So even though this is some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I will not be back to me the bug in my food is enough of an issue to keep me away. However, I might just try them again if some other yelpers have some positive reviews, so let me know.

A’Bravo Bistro & Wine Bar – Menu with Prices – 2069 Central Ct # 77, Green Bay

Just WOW. This place is so flippin great. Atmosphere: It is located in a strip mall. There is a decent amount of parking. They have a dreamy little atmosphere inside, cute lighting and decorations all around. It was SUPER clean in here. It did get a bit loud but there was quite a crowd in here on a Thursday night. Service: We were greeted immediately upon entering and our waiter was just a treat. You could tell he was super passionate about the food and the restaurant and was extremely helpful explaining dishes. He always refilled our water and drinks and promptly removed empty dishes. Food: The BREAD THOUGH. So good, yum YUM. I could just make a meal out of the bread. The food was fantastic as well, just wholesome flavors that made you happy you were eating. I can’t remember exactly what it was, but I had a slice of cheesecake, it was some type of hazelnut, pumpkin seed decadent delight that was just mesmerizing to eat. I can’t wait to keep coming back here for a healthy option in Green Bay, I will be recommending this place to friends and family who are in the area.

Pipes & Pleasures – Menu with Prices – 4244 E Main St, Columbus

I’ve been a regular here going on 5 years now. The location works great for me on Columbus’ east side. The pricing has always been more than fair when comparing the same cigars at other shops. I haven’t had any issues with the quality of the cigars(humidity) since I’ve been frequenting this place. This place for sure makes it easy to patronize here from the knowledgeable staff, to the friendly regulars. I went here one day for just a quick visit and that turned into me becoming a “regular. I will definitely continue recommending this place.

Kyoto Sushi – Menu with Prices – 5506 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi

Worse place ever. The only good thing I can say is the server tried his best. We ordered the dumplings and sushi. The dumplings were over steamed so the wonton covering tore apart easily leaving you to just pick at the meat in the middle. The sushi took way too long to be served, and it was low quality grade. Worse of all, there were several flying gnats around our food, I even killed two and showed the server the dead flies on the plate and table. Horrible experience, the owner and manager didn’t care to take of us, but to offer free desserts. Who wants to eat at that point when flies land on your food. Who knows what’s going on in the kitchen, how many flies are landing on everybody’s food. As we were leaving the server managed to get us a free order of yellowfin Tuna sashimi. We were already trying to leave, but I tried a taste anyways, and it tasted like bad quality fish. My wife and I spent $90 there, it would’ve been nice if they discounted our ticket, I would’ve given them an extra star for doing that. We would usually give restaurants a second try, but never this place. Let me save you some time and money and NEVER try this place out. You’re better off going across the street to HEB and buying your sushi at the little stand.
