First of all, this place has a really stupid name! It doesn’t seem to represent any of their menu items. It sounds more like a place that sells nitrogen ice cream or something. Because of the name, I walked right by it. However, I saw someone’s crazy mac and cheese and decided to check it out. The menu has an unusual combination of Mexican and Asian food/drinks (street corn and boba tea right next to each other). Again, this doesn’t fit with the name at all. Because I came here after a moonshine flight at Mashed next door, “Constant companion” took over and ordered for us. He got us elotes with framin’ hot Cheetos and a cucumber limeade. Side note: the menu calls them “elotes” but they are what I know as “esquites.” It’s corn off of the cob in a bowl. Whatever you call them, they were soooo good. They came with crema and cotija and were also topped with fluffy ground flamin’ hot Cheetos. It was perfect! Also, they had some green tomatillo-like sauce drizzled on top. We squeezed the lime wedge out too, which added a nice sourness. Long story short, I loved this snack! It’s the perfect late night comfort food! My only complaint (besides the name of the restaurant) is that it wasn’t spicy at all. The cucumber limeade was also really good! And it went perfectly with the esquites. I will definitely be back. Luckily, it seems like there are quite a few locations! Next time, I want to try the horchata.

Paleteria La Super Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 3031 S 1st St, Garland

I have been coming here since they opened! Best Elotes in town!! Best corn in the Cob, wow!! There always putting add ons to the menus so you never get tired and they have a wide variety of Hispanic treats or deserts. They are all made from scratch in the store. They show good movies, family friendly to watch while you are eating and there are no servers there. Could be a bit cleaner, more spacious, but other than that, goodness!! It is good, try the Elotes, or corn on the cob. Their sauce for the corn is exclusively made for them. No one else has the recipe. It’s why it’s so packed… Customer service could be friendlier, smile more, greet better…

El Munchies – Menu with Prices – 1353 E Colorado St, Glendale

My friend was excited she had a spot close to her that sold elote so she wouldn’t have to head out to East LA so I had to try it with her. She got a regular esquite and I got a hot Cheetos esquite. Oh, it’s bad. The corn is canned, first of all. No corn is that shade of yellow and all uniformly the same shape. If it were “off the corn” I’d see columns and rows of corn sticking together after the knife slices the corn off. Second, they add about an entire cup of cotija cheese. On my hot Cheetos esquite! There should have been no cotija at all. Hot Cheetos dust is enough, but adding the cotija overpowered it. It was double the powder and double the salt. Two bites was all I could take. The regular esquite had a lot of cotija cheese too. I also included a photo of my esquite so nobody could say I didn’t go or I didn’t try it from here because I know people are so quick to judge. The elote is just nasty. Go to East LA, I knew there was something off.

Paleteria Morelia – Menu with Prices – 880 S Wells Ave, Reno

After spending several days trying to go to another antojitos/raspados place only to find it closed, I was excited that Antojitos Colibri was open! It’s a tiny shop on Wells that you could drive right past if you’re not paying attention. Upon walking in we were greeted by a friendly worker. There are lots of options ranging from raspados (shaved ice), aguas frescas, elotes, to your basic ice cream. We ordered fresas con crema (strawberries and cream) with natural strawberries (instead of frozen) and all the toppings (coconut, granola, sprinkles, M&M’s and whipped cream). The item itself is nothing fancy but it was exactly what I wanted on a warm summer night. We also tried the Hot Cheetos Esquite basically elote in a cup with crushed hot Cheetos. So good! It had a well rounded flavor and both the corn and Cheetos weren’t soggy. All the fun of elote without the mess! I usually wait until I’ve been to a place a couple times to rate on consistency and to try more of the menu but I was really satisfied with my experience and hope this review encourages more people to stop by and give them a try! Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never been before! The staff was very nice and receptive! Definitely worth a visit! Can’t wait to come back!

TWISTED TROMPO – Menu with Prices – 3036 Broadway Blvd, Garland

Wow! I used to eat tacos at this stand before the renovation and let me say, what an upgrade! It’s a full fledged restaurant connected to a Chevron gas station convenience store. There’s a drive thru, you can either order while you’re getting gas, call ahead and have them bring it out to you, or eat inside. It’s actually pretty nice and not weird at all. And the causal vibe of everything makes it feel super easy to eat alone! If you dine in, order at the counter and they’ll bring the food to your table. I tried their tacos and elotes. Need to go back to try their Twisted fries which I’ve heard is a major draw. Taco Tuesday special!! 4.99 for 3 taco plate which comes with rice and beans, and a 24 ounce fountain drink only after 4 PM. I tried two chicken and one steak. A bit on the salty side but wasn’t greasy and a great portion of meat. Came with semi grilled onions, raw onions, cilantro, a like, and red (spicy) and green sauce (extra spicy!!). I’m not sure how much a single taco is, my guess is that’s it’s around $1.50 as the 3 taco plate with rice beans and drink is usually $7.99. They also have tortas, quesadillas, burritos, and breakfast tacos! The elotes was disgusting, tasted like they might have added some weird queso mix over the corn and it was totally off putting. Plus, my corn was clearly over cooked as it was so chewy that it stuck to my teeth and had several brown kernels, not yellow. I would avoid the elotes as the taste of it (regardless of it being overcooked) was bad. @crjetc

El kiosco mexican snacks – Menu with Prices – 8929 N Central Ave #103, Phoenix

Snscks were great their piña and coco loco was delicious! I also tried their nachos with cheetos and they top it off with cotija cheese which at first sight was a bit odd but hey cheese on top of cheese isn’t bad. I’ll be going back to try their raspados, helados, aguas and this monstrous snack called elote chorriado basically esquites surtounded by Nachos all buried in melted cheese

Zero Degrees – Menu with Prices – 2235 Village Walk Dr #151, Henderson

Some places succeed based on style over substance. This is one of them. Zero Degrees is a SoCal-based chain that is self-described on their web site as “Asian-Hispanic fusion.” They racked up lots of Yelp buzz at their original location, which opened all the way back in 2013, but I never got around to trying them out during my visits to the area. Even after their first Vegas opening a few months ago, I kept waiting because I’d heard that this Henderson outpost was in the works. It’s located at the District at Green Valley Ranch, between Me Gusta Tacos and the former Due & Proper, so parking anywhere outside and walking is suitable. They do have boba and a few other drink toppings, but it’s not purely a bubble tea shop. Their menu includes blended ice drinks (including the famous mangonada and some watermelon slushes), flavored teas and milk teas, coffee, horchata, and some basic food options (mostly chicken and fries). Social media indicates that more food choices are coming soon, so I’ll have to keep an eye out. Overall, my favorite order so far is the Hot Cheetos Elotes ($6.25). I was hoping to try the Hot Cheetos Chilotes ($7.75), a version with chicharrones added, but the cashier must’ve misheard me; fortunately, I wasn’t rung up for the Chilotes, and this Elotes dish was a favorite of my Yelp friend Stefany V at the Las Vegas location. After one bite, I could see why. The delicious, buttery corn with the savory cotija cheese paired well with the spicy Hot Cheetos dust and worked even better with a squeeze of lime. I would’ve liked to try the pork rinds, but I didn’t miss them one bit. However, the drinks were more of a mixed bag. – Coffee Horchata ($5.00 for 24 oz) was my favorite of what I tried. It’s not too sweet and both of the individual beverages are represented well, but it’s not as assertively flavored as a version of this drink which I’ve tried and enjoyed at a certain business in San Jose. Also, as someone pointed out, this is a lot more pricey than simply getting horchata at a Mexican restaurant. – Strawberry Limeade ($5.25 for 24 oz) was very refreshing. It also didn’t taste too sweet, likely because of all the acidity from the lime and the mint leaves. I also enjoyed chewing on the strawberry bits. That said, it just seems like a flavored cousin of lemonade, and I don’t know if I’d open my wallet regularly for that. – Lychee Crush ($5.00 for 24 oz) was too sweet. On top of that issue, the flavor is prominently similar to lychee candy and almost certainly has bits of lychee candy in the drink, in addition to strawberry. That artificial lychee is what most people will consider as ideal, but I love the taste of the real lychee fruit too much to accept it. The one positive I took away is that I did taste the green tea easily. – Thai Milk Tea ($4.75 for 24 oz) was also too sweet. It also had a oddly lingering aftertaste. This is a good time to mention that when I asked an employee, she stated that most of the drinks are already prepared with a certain sweetness level and can’t be adjusted down, which strikes me as a really serious, basic flaw. Most of their competitors in the flavored, sweetened tea niche let you adjust sweetness, so I’d go elsewhere any day for Thai tea. Seating will likely be fine after the initial grand opening buzz dies down. The music is catered toward younger tastes too, and the wall art is fine. Air conditioning was on point, which I appreciated in this weather and with a crowd inside to boot. I would ultimately give Zero Degrees 3.5 stars, but I can’t give half-stars on this site and I really can’t justify giving the full 4 stars at this point. They may have succeeded in the flavored drink / tea game in 2013, but 2018 has mostly left them behind.

Taqueria Sabor y Sazon – Menu with Prices – 2018 S Blue Island Ave, Chicago

Really enjoyed the tacos here but the hype about the tortillas and creamy green sauce left me disappointed. If you dine in, your meal will start with complimentary chips and three varieties of salsa. The salsas range in spiciness with the creamy green (jalapeño, tomatillo and sour cream base) being the mildest and the red packing the most heat from the red chiles. I love spice but preferred the flavor of the other green salsa best (think tomatillo and jalapeño with no sour cream). We all got tacos and tried the carne asada (steak), al pastor (marinated pork) and shrimp. All the protein was well flavored and free of excess fat. Dressed in cilantro and onions, the tacos were tasty but not mind-blowing. The tortillas also didn’t blow me away. They were better than store bought for sure but could’ve been better. Inside is small and set up to accommodate parties of 4 max. They’ll push an extra table over to make room for 6 because they’re nice. No liquor license for margaritas but you can BYOB and try the delicious horchata.

Raspados Colima – Menu with Prices – 2203 Clovis Rd, Lubbock

5 stars all the way! They have a big variety of Mexican snacks from corn in a cup to mangonadas, fruit cups and street tacos all reasonably priced. We had the “super nachos” and they were definitely super! They were a very big portion of chips and nacho cheese with shredded chicken (or beef), jalapeños, crema mexicana, avocado slices, and crumbled cheese on top. Nice selection of drinks, we had the cucumber lime agua fresca and strawberry limeade. Atmosphere was very busy and service was pretty quick. There is decent seating space available. It was a little hot in the building, other than that, it was a great experience.

Healthy Henry’s – Menu with Prices – 159-27 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica

Just left a meeting in Jamaica, Queens and was hungry. So many places had no place to sit. Good old YELP help me find Healthy Henry’s. The Jamaica Market is filled with several small restaurants – mostly ethnic – and is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal. I chose the “small plate” which was actually a styrofoam clamshell. I ordered the rosemary baked chicken, cabbage, a corn muffin, and pomegranate limeade. The first thing I noticed and was pleased with was that the chicken pieces did not appear to grown on steroids. The pieces (drumstick and piece of breast) were well seasoned and tender. The breast piece was particularly savory when I bit into the skin and the flavors exploded in my mouth. I’m sure I heard the Hallelujah Chorus. The cabbage was outstanding – cooked with a few carrots, garlic and other seasonings. It was a perfect accompaniment to the chicken. The corn muffin was also very good – the right amount of sweetness and a nice crispy crust. Topped off with the Pomegranate Limeade (unsweetened), I enjoyed a meal which couldn’t be beat for quality, flavor, and price. Who said NY is expensive? This fine meal set me back $6.50! Sorry I won’t be in the area another day. I would definitely return and sample some of their other offerings.

Tortilleria Santana – Menu with Prices – 1801 Lyle Ave, Waco

We were already regular customers of their homemade tamales. Today we bought two of their pork asado verde plates available for takeout. The food was nothing less than superior. So flavorful. The asado verde came with rice and refried beans and tortillas. In case you want it spicier, there is green salsa on the side. Without the added salsa, it is not too spicy, but full of flavor and tender with the milder tomatillo sauce in which it is cooked. Both the rice and beans were perfect!!

Zero Degrees – Menu with Prices – 7480 W Bell Rd #108, Glendale

Let me just start by saying the drinks are really good. I did enjoy the strawberry horchata I ordered. All the drinks looked bomb, my friend ordered the piña colada and that was also good too. But when it came to the food it was trash. The elote tasted dry, not enough mayo and cheese in it. I felt like I was eating spicy canned white corn. I think I ordered the hot Cheetos elote and it was so dry, they put too much hot Cheetos in there thats all I could taste. The WORST elote I ever tasted in my life. I ordered the buffalo wings, they didn’t even taste like buffalo wings I was so disappointed. It tasted like baked honey glazed wings with the tiniest cup of ranch. Huge waste of money, don’t order the food it looks appetizing but taste like crap. Only get the drinks.

Zero Degrees – Menu with Prices – 1777 Coburg Rd, Eugene

Update: I went back and this time, got the ube milkshake and elotes with cajun fries. The ube shake was great & creamy, but the lighting in the store doesn’t quite do it justice, washing out the purple. What’s the point of that?!? I came for the pics, so does that mean I have to bring my own lighting?? Smh. I might have to bring a whole setup next time I go. On top of that, ube isn’t ube unless it looks so purple that if you don’t know any better, it might seem poisonous. Jokes aside, I love ube, and would probably think about getting it again once I try other flavors and split cups. I think the shake actually was super purple, but we went after sundown so it looked a bit less so. My friend got a strawberry peach and it was pretty dang red and pretty dang good too. Refreshing af. Continued the theme of flavors I don’t usually like (peach) and making them into a drink I like! Somehow zero degrees is magical like that. We also forgot to ask for boba because we’re illiterate science and social science grads and can’t read menus unless they’re only pictures. Elotes were pretty good, I like the taste, but some people said they use canned corn to make it. Tbh it’s not a huge deal for me. It was good anyway, but a tiny bit watery. Nbd though. the cajun fries tho…THE CAJUN FRIES THO. ABSOLUTELY pretty good. I liked em, they paired well with the elotes. Very nice. Still 3 stars because we illiterates need more pics on the menu, especially ones that tell us to specifically order boba. We also need a special corner where the lighting is perfect to take pics of the drinks. Maybe a drink photo booth? Things are also slightly pricey, but you can’t blame a ~trendy~ place for it. Besides the Cajun fries, the rest of the food was OK, but nothing I’d go out of my way to get again. Maybe as I try more things, that’ll change. So far, the popcorn chicken is on top. Lastly, we decided that if the Cajun seasoning were on the popcorn chicken. It’d be the bomb dot com. They might already do that, but as we established, neither of us is capable of reading a menu.
