I love local coffee shops especially since they are always so adorable. Yellow Mug is especially so with their yellow ceramic coffee mugs for the the casual, dine-in guest and the yellow-accented decor. The owner was especially kind and welcoming, and does co-own the shop with his wife. She actually makes some of the pastries and baked goods that are displayed out front. The owner was very convincing selling us on the *Pumpkin Cheesecake* upon check out. This clearly had pumpkin puree since it was a little more whipped than dense like a cheesecake. Such a rich, divine creation which lit up our eyes with glee. The *Chocolate Chip Cookie* also made in-house was just as delectable. Decently sized and so chunky with chocolate chips in every bite. For my espresso beverage, I went for one of their seasonal choices listed on a separate chalk board. I elected for a large *Spiced White Latte* which was a nice added touch for those who don’t like pumpkin (yes, they had a Pumpkin Spiced Latte). I hadn’t ordered a ‘large’ in some time and there’s is a 20oz. I learned once again how unnecessary this size is for a latte. There’s was especially frothy, almost like a cappuccino. There was a nice ‘spiced’ cinnamon character to it, otherwise it was mostly sweet. Their specialty coffee beverages are the center piece items for their menu board with the Punch in the Face being the most popular. My friend did order this white chocolate mocha which is very heavy with the inclusions of Irish Cream, half & half, and 2 whole shots of espresso. The espresso was well masked because this drink was DIE-abetes! A cute shop for sure with lots of interesting drinks and smoothies too. They even had some brunch food items. I think their baked goods were the star of the visit though!

Organic Man Coffee Trike – Menu with Prices – 4501 McPherson Rd #9, Laredo

Cute little independent shop. I had high hopes for the coffee. Unfortunately the barista serving me, while very friendly and pleasant, simply didn’t have the level of training that one would expect of a dedicated coffee shop. When I was initially asked “what size?”, I asked if they used a standard “doppio” or 2 ozs of espresso, she said that their “12 oz cappuccino” came with only a single shot of espresso….most places, a doppio or 2 oz shot of espresso is served as standard, bringing a cappuccino to 6 ozs total (2 ea of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam))….so no idea how they get to a cappuccino with a single 1 oz shot of espresso to 12 ozs……so I asked for a “doppio”. My first “cappuccino” that I ordered was a latte (predominantly milk, maybe 3x the qty of espresso). She was pleasant enough to make a second one after me asking for equal qty of milk to espresso…..but that one was simply average in flavor. Not sure what roasting house the beans come from (she didn’t know), but the flavor was pretty lackluster. Also, for this cappuccino, I was charged with tax, $6.12. Unfortunately, overall, average at best.

Sweetie Pie by Savie Menu with Prices 150 Whitehall Rd, Athens

Definitely a true gem in Athens, GA. This cute bakery shop has something for everyone. Their affordable menu items ranges from butterscotch coffee to Thai tea lattes. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are immediately welcomed by kind workers who are eager to help with what you are looking for. Baked Goods: There are many items that are displayed — brownies, cakes, cookies, etc.. Whatever you can think of! They’re specialty I believe is their Japanese Cheesecake. It has both a cake and cheesecake texture; creamy but also spongey, a must try! Coffee: From what was told to me, they use 1000 Faces Coffee beans for their espresso based drinks and Jittery Joes for all other coffee drinks. You won’t find a drink that’s over four dollars, which is pretty amazing if you ask me. Other beverages: they also sell teas such as Thai Tea and Green Tea. I believe you can choose between having milk/half and half added or just lemon. The workers will be more than happy to adjust your drink to your liking. Also, the drinks are pretty cheap! Less than two dollars for a small and less than three for a medium. The only downside is the size of the bakery. There isn’t many places to sit since it’s pretty small. From what I remembered, there was only one table with a couple seats. Definitely bring your friends/family here for the food, but don’t plan on staying for long since there’s no seating. Overall I really enjoyed my experience at Savie’s. I hope more people will stop by! You won’t regret it.

Midtown Coffee Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1693 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo

NEW!! I am so excited about the Midtown Coffee Cafe, located near the deli in the Midtown Fresh grocery store. It is located in a long, sunny extension of the store, facing the parking lot. The large windows let in a lot of sun, which is quite pleasing in winter. The menu is extensive, offering both coffees and teas, as well as YUMMY-looking baked goods. Coffee goodness: you can have either chemex or drip, espresso beverages, and chai latte, vegan hot cocoa, and a matcha latte. Soy or almond milk is available for those wishing for non-dairy options. They source Kalamazoo Coffee Company beans. The special beverages this week include a brown sugar cinnamon latte, and the uber-scrumptious cardamom maple latte. The place was bustling when I went in today! There are several four-top tables, and then a long window bar with high perch stools. I don’t love that it is in a grocery store, but this part of town definitely needed a coffee shop. ? I love Kalamazoo’s coffee culture, and am happy to see our newest coffee shop. YAY!

Bon Beans Organic Coffee, Tea, & Juice – Menu with Prices – 875 E 9 Mile Rd #3, Pensacola

Bon Beans is for sure a coffee shop you can go to every day and not get bored. The baristas offer a great variety of coffee drinks and even more teas. Milk substitutes (almond, soy, or coconut milk) are also offered at an extra price. Make sure to go every Tuesday for BOGO! Out of the numerous coffee shops I’ve been to. Bon Beans stands out for it’s cute and welcoming interior. There are plenty of board games and books to read along with tables and couches to study. The best drink I’ve gotten so far is the cold brew with sugar free vanilla flavoring. I like my cold brews strong and not too bitter; this one was perfect. I would not recommend the dark chocolate flavoring; it did not taste like dark chocolate and instead more like candy and did not hide the bitterness of the coffee well. I’ve also gotten the mocha frappuccino which had a rich milk chocolate flavor; I had hoped the coffee taste would be more apparent. Most recently, I tried the pumpkin spice latte and was not pleased. The latte tasted nothing like pumpkin spice and was exceptionally bitter. Perhaps I have high expectations after having a Starbucks PSL, but I would not recommend this drink from Bon Beans.

Savory Bake House – Menu with Prices – 3008 36th Ave S, Minneapolis

Come here for unique, flavorful baked goods. I usually stop in on Sunday mornings when I am in the area and whenever I go I find something new and completely unique to this bakery. Everything I have tried has been great, but I especially love all of their savory baked goods. However do not make the mistake of coming here late in the day. I have arrived to find most of the goods picked over and I once even found the shop closed because they were all sold out! Also, do not expect to come here, sit down with a cup of coffee and your baked goods while watching the world go by. There is nowhere to sit in the tiny shop so you’ll have to take your baked goods elsewhere! Definitely put this small bakeshop on your bucket list!

Rose’s Coffee Bar – Menu with Prices – 299 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale

Rose’s Coffee Bar is the new coffee shop in Flagler Village located inside of The Dalmar hotel. The coffee shop is on the ground floor of the hotel, and is easily accessible from the street. Rose’s is adorably decorated with light pink accents and aesthetically pleasing design. They serve La Colombe coffee, which I love, and both drinks I purchased so far have tasted delicious. Their Iced Mocha had the perfect balance of coffee and espresso, not tasting too sweet or overpowering, and the simple Iced Latte was delicious. I also tried one of their house-made baked goods, a frosted sugar cookie, and it was incredibly tasty, while also not being too sweet. The staff is friendly and efficient, too! My only little negative is that when I went the second morning around 10:30am to order another Iced Mocha, they told me they were out of chocolate, because they make it in house. I respect their dedication to making their items in house, but so early in the morning I feel like they shouldn’t be sold out so quickly. I’d expect the to be more prepared. Otherwise, its a great coffee shop that I’ll definitely be returning to!

The Coffee Wheel – Menu with Prices – 7 Caliente Rd, Santa Fe

OK, I don’t like to be mean or snarky BUT – – I decided to try the Coffee Wheel today when I was over by La Tienda. The lady behind the counter was very pleasant but she knows no more about making a cappuccino than I know about heart surgery. I cannot describe what she served me but it was maybe like a bad cafe latte? Weak flavor, zero foam, lukewarm, unattractive, blah, and NOT INEXPENSIVE. Just for the record, a cappuccino should be roughly one third espresso, one third steamed hot milk, and one third foamed milk. I know because I have a Rocket Espresso machine at the house and I lived in Northern Italy for years. I’m not blaming the employee as she has obviously NOT BEEN TRAINED. Guys, you charge enough for your drinks that the customers should expect professional quality drinks. As I stated, the lady behind the counter was very nice, now how about training her! A cappuccino is a basic coffee drink; and you failed miserably; I won’t be back.

Divinocafé – Menu with Prices – 3169 1/2 Leavenworth St, Omaha

What a nice small, off-the-beaten-path specialty coffee shop! I was headed to Farine+Four, but they were closed for the holidays. Wandering down Leavenworth, I looked across the street and noticed a cafe that I’d never seen before with a flashing open sign. I stopped in, not knowing what to expect, and was immediately greeted by Lupita. She mentioned that their specials often had additional spices added, recommended the Mexican Mocha. I wasn’t quite ready for that level of sweetness, so landed on a Cubano Cortado, which came spiced with a bit of cinnamon (and perhaps chicory as well?). The milk was foamed nicely on top. If you’re looking for something a bit unique and happen to find yourself on Leavenworth, stop in for a sip. This place is everything you want in a simple coffee shop; limited menu, just espresso-based drinks and freshly brewed leaf tea (not a bag to be found!). There are a couple of small fruit plates (and smoothies), but I didn’t notice any baked goods. The decor leaves a bit to be desired, as it’s almost hipstery but not quite nice enough to give you the warehouse vibe you get from Archetype or Hardy Coffee Company. That said, the place is cozy and I spent a few minutes sipping my cortado enjoying the shabby-chic attire. I’ll be back again. Next time I plan to try the famed Mexican Mocha Latte, an espresso, and perhaps a drip so I can get the full feel for the menu.

Neat Coffee – Menu with Prices – 1922 Pomona Ave, Costa Mesa

My favorite coffee shop in the Costa Mesa area…HANDS DOWN! I’ve been a supporter for Neat since their days over at FLDWRK when it was just Allie at the front. It’s great to see the growth of this small little shop, offering more food and nice little pop-ups on the weekend. They even sell some fresh bread baked from Rye Goods. The espresso drinks are very consistent and offer a few flavored and seasonal drinks that are tasty. Their Golden Latte has been a staple and it is worth a try. They also have a ice draft latte that’s pretty good but a little too sweet for me. My favorite is the honey cinnamon latte iced of I’m looking for something other than my usual cappuccino which is solid. They offer a variety of toasts and offer breakfast burritos from Rooster Truck but that’s only on the weekend. The toast is served with two slices and there is a mix and match option which is nice if you want to try different ones. The pan con tomate is well balanced and not too sweet or tangy with the right amount of salt. The sweet toast is good but the orange zest is a bit too citrus much for me. The avocado toast is pretty good but not a fan of the dill. The bread itself is very good and soft with the right amount of toast on them. Atmosphere is friendly and casual. The employees are always asking about your day and make it a point to get to know their customers in their neighborhood. The space is well designed and a great place to meet with friends and catch up. It’s also a great place for families with small children. Overall, I think the coffee and food offerings are great. Support your local neighborhood coffee shops! 5 stars coffee 4 stars food 5 starts atmosphere and staff

COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE – Menu with Prices – 4193 Pearl Rd, Cleveland

Score! Another great coffee shop find in CLE. I went in the fall which is arguably the best time for coffee shops to really shine, and SHINE THEY DID. They have a list of fun spooky drinks and treats, like the Dracu-latte (beet powder, strawberry syrup, milk, espresso) and Dark Dimension Cappuccino (local maple, ‘The Spice,’ activated charcoal, milk, espresso). Both were AHMAZE but I liked the Dark Dimension Cappucino a liiiiiitle better because of the spice. The Dracu-latte had a very nice earthy taste but I would probably add an extra shot next time for a little more oomph. Things I wanted to try but didn’t: basically everything else but especially the stoner cereal and the homemade pumpkin poptarts they were setting out just as I arrived. I had to RESTRAIN myself. The interior is a bright, airy space with tall ceilings and a good amount of seating. Lots of books organized neatly on shelves in the window seating areas to each side of the entrance. Additional shelves hold other fun things for purchase like local maple syrup, mugs, and (of course) coffee. The shop also houses Sixth City Cycles, so there’s cool bike paraphernalia too. Their signage and the artwork on the windows is all so fun and matches the vibe of their neighborhood (Old Brooklyn) well. Went back the very next morning (a Monday) even though it’s 15 mins away and not at all on my way to work.

Vida Coffee Co – Menu with Prices – 812 Hitt St, Columbia

Warm atmosphere, free Wi-Fi, friendly service and an interesting menu make this a great choice for meetings or studying! Fresh baked goods. A couple of unusual drinks that we enjoyed are the Smoking Gun Latte with matcha green tea and sweet heat (a ghost pepper syrup that’s spicy) and a Cinnamon Latte with half a shot of the sweet heat. If you like tea, the London Fog has Earl Grey with steamed milk and vanilla, like a latte with black tea instead of espresso. Ask about the bottomless tea and coffee special. Be aware that you’ll have to get a decaf Americano if you want decaf after 10 a.m. They don’t brew decaf after that. It’s a campus so most people want caffeine! Worth a visit!

Café Kitsuné New York – Menu with Prices – 550 Hudson St, New York

My friend and I were really curious about this place, it’s a 2 in 1 shop I believe. In the back of the store they have clothes while in the front it’s a little cafe. The store it self is pretty, you come in take a seat and the severs will come to you. My friend and I ended up getting our latte and cappuccino to go. I didn’t see many baked goods in the front, perhaps they were done for the day? While my friend and I waited for our drinks, we noticed that they serve food as well, and it looked really good. The coffee took a while, but it was good! The offer soy and oat milk, which is great! The place fits the vibe of the west village. This would be a cute spot for a coffee date.
