Tl;dr: Good coffee, wide variety of breakfast options. Woody theme and open interior. Drive through option. Oh and they make pour overs too. ***The long read*** How I got here? I was visiting Seattle for work last minute and I got put up in Hotel 116. They gave me free vouchers for free 16oz coffee and breakfast option. Ambience: First thing you notice once you enter the place is that it has a lot of natural light, high ceiling. So much wood that it lives up to it’s name. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Chair by the fireplace( a working one!) I love the rough shaped natural finish wooden bench by the door. It has a very natural park feel to it. Coffee: I usually go for black coffee. They have 2 blends Woods blend and Bear. They serve their hot drinks in black cup and custom logo embossed lids with quotes by the likes of Joh Muir et all. I asked them for a pour over and they obliged. Btw the pour over tasted really fresh as compared to the drip. Breakfast: Egg sausage and bread was quite decent. I’d rate it above Mc’Ds. Taste wise it reminded me of the ones served in Starbucks. I tried the Avocado toast too. Not really sure if the bread was toasted (check the picture) but the taste was ok. Avocado spread was a little too sour for my taste. Lots of parking in front as they share parking with Hotel 116. They also have a drive through option for those days when it’s raining too hard and you don’t want to get out of your car. This is a Californian view of Seattle rains so take it with a pinch of salt(or cream and sugar!)

John J’s Tiki Bar – Menu with Prices – 141 N 9th St, Lincoln

Great option for breakfast/brunch in the haymarket in the new Graduate Lincoln (formerly the Holiday Inn – some phone map apps still has the Holiday Inn marked). The Graduate tries for a kitschy boutique but JJ’s is open and modern even if it as aspects where it tries to harks back to an earlier time. I like the space because it gets so much natural light unlike most of the Haymarket and their brick and dark spaces. The windows open up to create an outdoor / indoor California type of space with small table tops that are so well lived in the Midwest still. The coffee is good and the light breakfasts ($6) options are a nice option to the full breakfasts. I had the egg/avocado toast which was perfect and the H oatmeal with apples, which was just okay. But it may have been the service that was the most odd because our server was in a work Tshirt that was just drenched and he was sweating big time – like he biked to work or just ran a 10k. Is it me or is that not cool for a server? Might be okay for someone who worked in the back kitchen but a server/waiter on the floor- eh? I told the manager and her reaction was I’ll tell him. Lol No get the guy a new shirt or have him change. I’ll chalk it to new hotel – new restaurant . I’d return to JJ’s because I think this is a one-off thing. Parking pricey ($15/day).

Farm Fresh Halal Market – Menu with Prices – 226 N Negley Ave, Pittsburgh

I stopped by here earlier today by myself for breakfast. Farm Fresh Deli is located in the center core at PIT and I must have walked by it a hundred or so times before today. It’s a free standing “kiosk” so there’s not much to it. You can walk up, place your order and walk down the line subway style before paying at the end. On this morning what caught my eye was the avocado and egg white panini. It consisted of avocado, egg whites, American cheese and tomatoes (I chose to forgo these) all on a toasted wheat bread for 5.99. After ordering my sandwich I watched it get made and they put on a decent amount of egg white and cheese before being stingy with the avocado. I am talking 3 tiny slices for the whole sandwich which maybe made it 1/8 of an avocado. If you are naming a sandwich after it, you probably should add a bit more. In any case, I paid and went to wait. It took a little longer than 5 minutes which seemed like quite a bit for a faster airport place but I was happy about it whenever my bread ended up being well toasted and the cheese nice and melted. Other than that the sandwich tasted decent enough although i really could have used avocado. The bottom line for me is that I might stop by here again in the future. While my sandwich was well executed and tasty, I really wish they would have added more of the namesake ingredient.

Go Natural Foods Menu with Prices 784 Kentucky St, Bellingham

We were headed to Seattle and I was craving empanadas so I did a trusty yelp search and this place popped up. The reviews were sparse so I was hesitant but after reading their simple and clear, great menu online, we decided the prices are decent so why not? I checked my door dash app and had some credits so I preordered 6 Pan De Queso and decided I will order the empanadas in person!! Yayyyy lol! Finally got to Go Natural Foods and there was ample parking and it was very easy to find. We came inside the establishment and a nice lady was there and greeted so I told her I had a pickup order and she presented it to me. Hubby decided he wanted a drink and we also ordered 3 Colombian empanadas as well as 3 tropical ones. HOLY SHIIIIIIIZZZZZ HALLELUJAH THERES AN ACTUAL SOOT THAT CAN MAKE GREAT EMPANADAS?? It’s either too much dough and little filler or too bland but they were both delicious! I highly recommend the empanadas as well the Peruvian Chocolate smoothie was actually good too! I thought it maybe too sweet but all natural vegan and gluten free ingredients. Only issue I had was the Pan De Queso. I guess it’s not like back in New Jersey or Colombia with the circular and actual more cheese but this is more like dense for me, which is why I would give a 4.5 star but we do not have that option. I’m sure one day soon when driving across the border, we will be back to try some other goodies. Thanks again for the delicious treats as well kind and great customer service! Go to Go Natural Foods NOW! They do delivery and pickup as well!!

Dirty Couch Brewing – Menu with Prices – 2715 W Fort St, Seattle

My friends and I literally stumbled upon dcb after finishing a drizzly & brisk walk at Discovery Park on a Saturday afternoon. Truthfully, we were drawn in by the minimalist logo and the dogs we saw sitting inside. I’m so glad we did! Most of the menu is sour beers, which can be very polarizing if you’re not in the mood for it. Luckily, they have a couple IPAs on the menu too. What I enjoyed was their option to get a 5oz pour ($2) for all of the beers on tap – not as much of a commitment as a 12oz pour! We ended up sharing multiple beers amongst our group in the short time we were there. Our favorites were the Plausibility Whiskey Sour Porter and the Irregularity Blackberry Sour Blonde. There’s a decent amount of seating, some board games, and service was very friendly. When I come back to Seattle in the future, I’ll make an effort to stop by dcb!

The Breakfasteria – Menu with Prices – 16615 Huebner Rd, San Antonio

Pretty neat idea, definitely something to lure in the millennial and generation z people. Touted as “Mexican-inspired breakfast bowls,” The Breakfasteria blends the ideas of Mexican restaurants, poke bowls, and health-foods into an amalgam of something you’d probably find in LA. The concept is simple enough. You have a large bowl option ($10) and a small bowl option ($8). You pick your base, add your type of meat, and other fixings, and boom. Or, you can select from other, lighter, options like Mexican Toast, their take on avocado toast. And, for the purist, they have breakfast tacos, too. My avocado toast tasted great, and the price was competitive. ($8) It had scrambled eggs, onions, tomato, spinach, avocado, and avocado salsa. Service was also friendly, fast, and efficient. He even gave me the rest of the coffee in the pot when it was running low. In the future I’d like to see a little more wiggle room with the options, such as a vegetarian protein option. What if a vegetarian wanted a bowl? Would they get a discount because they can’t select a meat? Or are they destined to order the Mexican Toast?

Made coffee – Menu with Prices – 107 W Amerige Ave, Fullerton

This is one of my favorite study spots. The owner and workers are all very friendly, and I always receive top quality coffee, specialty drinks, and pastries! Single Origin Pour Over ———————– Usually I order Cappuccinos, but they do the pour over so well here! I forgot what beans I picked, but to be honest, I have not had a bad pour over from here. If you love quality black coffee, I recommend getting yourself one! Coffee Cake ———— The pastries seem to look and taste similar to the ones at Intentional Coffee, and I mean this in a good way! The owner told me that they receive the pastries from a bakery, and they sure are tasty! This Coffee Cake has just the right amount of sweetness to pair with the Pour Over. Deliciousness that is perfect for a pick-me-up! ————- This coffee shop hasn’t been around for very long, but I highly recommend coming here if you have not already! A note for those who plan to come here to study: {PROS} – Good Wi-Fi (I personally never had a problem with connection or speed.) {CONS} – Limited Outlets – Except for the big table in the middle, not very comfortable seating – Bathroom is in another building next door, but access key is provided. Although it may seem like a lot of Cons vs. Pros, I mainly come here for the products, the service, and the ambience, so I do not mind tolerating these Cons!

The Kookaburra – Menu with Prices – 4265 A1A S, St. Augustine

Came in for a late night coffee and snack after dinner with some friends. The staff were super friendly and served us quite quickly. We ordered the Long black which is basically espresso pulled over water. I can’t tell you how delicious it was. I really enjoyed it. We also got a biscotti and and some gluten free pumpkin donuts. There are plenty of tables, nooks and comfy chairs to sit. There is free WiFi too. The place is clean and bright. There are quite a few coffee and specialty coffee choices. There is also a large assortment of breakfast and lunch Aussie pies. They are delicious. Nice puff pastry crust and fresh and delicious fillings. Great place for coffee and espresso. There is plenty of parking in their private parking lot. If you’re looking for a good cup of coffee and a bite to eat check this place out.

Gypsy Place Coffee and Juice Bar – Menu with Prices – 90 Hampshire St, Cambridge

FYI: Their breakfast toast is not really the open face, stuff lying on top of a piece of bread kind of toast you might initially think. It’s a full blown sandwich which is even better. WHAT I GOT: Iced coffee & plain bagel w/ avocado mix // latte & breakfast toast with avocado mix PROS: Y’all I did not eat/drink all of the stuff in the previous section on one day. I came here twice in the same weekend when I came up to Boston for a visit because YES, this place is that good. They serve up some seriously amazing coffee and some equally as amazing food. The bagel I had on the first day was quite literally the size of my whole hand and that avocado mix they put in there was freakin delicious. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s not just a chopped/mashed up avocado. I don’t remember what exactly they added to it but it kind of reminded me of a breakfast like guacamole. Either way, I loved it so much that I requested them to put it in my breakfast toast (sandwich) the next day. They used some real nice cheese for that sandwich too, and toasted the whole thing so it was oozing by the time it got to me. Great portions, great coffee, and great interior decoration. This place is now my go to if I’m ever back in Boston again. CONS: Menu can be a bit deceiving/under explained so maybe a few more descriptions wouldn’t hurt so people know exactly what they’re ordering but all in all, no negatives about what they serve.

Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee Menu with Prices 1858 Central Ave, Augusta

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a hole in the wall unless it’s in your living room after your kids played baseball in the house…But I digress, this place is located inside of what appears to be a home so it’s right off the road near some houses. I needed a quick coffee and breakfast so I decided to pop by. 1) it’s easy to find, there’s a big sign out front so you can’t miss it. Parking can be hard but they have a gravel lot near the back. However, when I got there it was full so I just took to parking in the street. 2) they have tons of food options from pastries to sandwiches but I opted for the roasted red pepper and spinach quiche. I posted a low quality picture of it bc I got it to-go but I couldn’t wait that long to eat it. It was warm, smelled amazing and holy moly was it good! An amazing crust, toasted on the top, melted cheese and full of flavor I was honestly surprised at how good it was. 3) I’m very picky when it come to coffee and always get pour overs and this was the first pour over I’ve had in a while that I actually wished I went back to buy their beans. I got the Ethiopia roast on a pour over and it had a deep bodied flavor with chocolate undertones. Only thing that would make it better is drinking it out of a mug on my porch in the midst of a cool crisp morning. Anyway, if you’re looking for a quick coffee and breakfast or if you want a place to study, I would add this to your list.

Bare Beans Espresso – Menu with Prices – 7 W Pacific Ave, Spokane

Stopped here on the way when I moved to Seattle. Very friendly service, but more importantly had an iced white chocolate latte that was probably the best coffee I had ever consumed. I still have a lot of Seattle coffee ahead of me, but at times I contemplate driving all the way out there just for another coffee!

Boots & Brix – Menu with Prices – 701 E Campbell Rd, Richardson

I happen to be staying in the hotel where this restaurant is located. I get a free breakfast so I chose to eat here for my stay. It’s good, but not great. As I had the buffet, I noticed the place is clean, neat and organized. The staff is overly friendly and will accommodate almost any request. I am only giving 3 stars as for breakfast, $19 is a little high and if I were paying for it, I wouldn’t pay that high price. I think if they dropped the price to even $15, it would be better. I will say that even for a buffet, the food selection is great, lots to chose from! The coffee is so-so, but I am also a bit of a coffee expert. Unless you get the breakfast for free as part of your stay at the Hyatt, go somewhere else.

Black Swan Espresso – Specialty Coffee and Tea – Menu with Prices – 93 Halsey St, Newark

Black Swan Expresso is a welcome addition to the city of Newark! It’s located right on Hasley street, so you get a lovely window view of the city but conveniently located within only a 5 to 10 minute walk to Rutgers Campus. The shop is small. It’s literally a whole in the wall, but probably the prettiest whole in the wall I’ve seen! Seriously! Black Swan is cozy, charming, and modern all at once, with brick walls and local art hanging on the walls. The shop is small but there is a decent amount of seating. A few small tables along the wall, counter seating, and stools by the window… perfect to grade papers or read a book on a Saturday morning. Black Swan is known for their expresso (hence the title) and they live up to their name by delivering a strong savory brew. They also rotate choices of single origin pour over coffee. I had the Brazilian just recently and it was fantastic. Drip coffee and cold brew is also available as well as an assortment of tea. They have a number of baked goods… donuts, croissants, cookies!!! I typically avoid sugar but I splurged in a giant walnut chocolate chip cookie here and it was so worth the calories! Yummy in my tummy… and paired with a Guatemalan pour over hot coffee … perfection! Staff/baristas are professional, warm, and welcoming. They know their trade well and are happy to answer any questions you might have. My only complaint is the price for the pour over single origin coffee is a bit high for the small size. Regardless, I think this a great addition to Newark.
