I had the banh cha gio thit nuong. Which is basically a rice noodle salad with vegetables, charbroiled pork chop, egg roll and fish sauce poured over it. I had this dish for over 40 years so I know it quite well. First I’ll say their cha gio are small, thin versions of what I’m used to having. So when my banh dish came with only 1 egg roll (and the cut up pork chop), I was surprised. It just didn’t seem like a lot. Their rice noodles are different than I am used to also. Theirs are softer and larger in diameter. Almost the size of Italian spaghetti. Rice noodles or vermicelli is typically thin threads. So I’m not going to order this fish again. I did have their goi cuon. Fortunately it remained tasty and freshly made like last time.

Cafe Dang Anh – Menu with Prices – 1C9, 5186 Victoria Dr, Vancouver

There are so many great options for pho in this area that it sometimes gets a little hard to figure out where to get your fix. Wanted to try a new place this time and with the suggestion of fellow yelpers, we found ourselves here. This little place is tucked away between two mexican places and can be easy to pass by if you’re not paying attention. We got the Bun Rie + Cha Ca pho (Grilled fish and fresh water crab pho), spring rolls and the Banh Cuon Cha Lua (stuffed pancake pork pie). We also saw a bunch of people ordering chinese donuts on the side so we got an order as well. The pho noodle itself is a wider version than the regular pho noodle. Like the cantonese style rice noodle. The soup is a mild sweet tomato based stock that is fresh and super flavourful. Although similar to the Hoang Yen style, Dang Anh’s is a more milder and fresher taste in my opinion. The fish cakes were the star of the dish for me. It was fragrant and full of flavour. The stuffed pork pancake is similar to the cantonese style rice rolls you can get at a dim sum restaurant. They came with a side of veggie and herbs and some vietnamese ham. It’s a little on the small side so if you’re hungry it may not be enough. They come with fish sauce to dunk the rice rolls in and they are amazing! This is a super fresh dish to get if you’re not in the mood for hot noodles. The rice rolls are nice and thin and the meat to roll ratio was perfect, not too much or too little. Spring rolls were nice, not amazing but okay. The wrapping is good not like the lame chinese restaurant wonton skin ones, actual rice paper roll. Tl;dr Great noodles and broth. Restaurant owner/servers are really nice and helpful. They take their time to explain dishes and make recommendations which is very hard to find in many vietnamese restaurants. Would definitely recommend if you want yummy noodles and don’t want to wait in line for the other competitors around the area.

Pho Binh Minh Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 819 Sargent Ave, Winnipeg

Lovely new Vietnamese restaurant on Sargent! It’s a rather large restaurant that’s has a very bright, simple yet pretty decor in a very clean space. This place is where the former “Martini’s” Italian restaurant use to be (years ago) which has it’s own little parking space. P2 – rare beef pho (large $8.50) – there could have been more slices of beef but overall it was a good pho. The broth was lighter and leaned to a slight sweetness with a tinge bit more oil than I normally like but it was still good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and tasted great with the small dish of bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime and real bird’s eye chili. The ice coffee here is super strong and delicious – I highly recommend if you like stronger coffee! The best dishes here has to be their vermicelli bowl or “bun” and the “banh xeo”. V27 deluxe vermicelli bowl ($9.75) has grilled pork, spring rolls, grilled pork meatballs with veggies/herbs and vermicelli noodles. The vermicelli is served warm (which is a subtle thing many Viet places don’t do) which really adds to all the flavour once you pour on the fish sauce. The grilled pork is nicely seasoned and everything mixes really well in this dish. The banh xeo sort of looks like an omlette but it’s really more like a crispy savoury crepe/pancake. It’s made of rice flour, water, turmeric (which gives it that yellow colour) and it’s filled with pork, shrimp and bean sprouts. You eat it with lettuce and dip it into the fish sauce. I don’t normally order banh xeo as they always taste soggy but this one is super crispy and has lots of great flavour! Definitely give this one a try. Good as a shared appy or a light meal. Overall, great place with good prices and the service is very friendly!

Saigon Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1943 10th Ave N unit a, Myrtle Beach

Best tasting Pho and Bun Bo ever- visited the next morning again! Hate to admit it, but it tastes better than my home city vast pho selection. It doesn’t taste artificial like it’s been loaded with pho bouillon, msg, no murky broth appearance. The broth is clear, it’s not overly salty or sweetened up- you can taste the flavor from the beef bone. Although, didn’t feel like the serving size of the noodles was enough. Condiments are readily accessible to season to taste if needed. -Vermicelli noodles approved -Summer roll approved -Grilled pork chop rice dish approved -Fried egg roll is a thumbs down- didn’t like the stuffing -Strange but I did love the iced water- clean tasting Bonus- there’s an Asian market next door serving those freshly prepared rolled shaved ice cream.

Mama’s Kitchen Taiwanese Food – Menu with Prices – 10820 Abbotts Bridge Rd, Duluth

My absolute favorite ever since I moved to John’s Creek. They have not disappointed me yet! (Located inside johns creek hmart food court, alllll the way in the corner) Seafood noodle soup (spicy or not spicy) – delicious and portion is pretty big! All their noodles soups a pretty good. My fav is the seafood. They also have beef, pork and preserved veggie and with option of regular noodle or rice noodle. Fried pork chop on rice – portion is huge and pork chop is seasoned very well. Very savory dish Boiled pork dumplings – very flavorful and bursting with juice and meat inside Taiwanese style spicy boiled fish – slightly pricier than their other menu items, but worth it. Very aromatic and delicious Taiwanese rice noodle (curry or regular) – also a must try item. It’s just plain good. Chicken nuggets: ok, I might have lied when I said I haven’t been disappointed. I got the nuggets once and found it to be very dry. Maybe over fried? But it’s ok, I’m willing to overlook it because everything else I ordered was great. A lot more items to try on the menu and they have a vegetarian menu too! I’m actually sitting here waiting on my fish dumplings and noodle soup as I write this….

Sunday In Saigon Menu with Prices 682 N St Asaph St, Alexandria

Came for brunch around 12:00PM in the afternoon with mom & bf. Mom wanted to try a new place and I figured who better to bring to an upscale Vietnamese joint. We chose the AYCE option $38/person to get a sampling of everything. We started off with a few plates, partially because I never know the size of small plates at places. In total as a table we ordered about 17 dishes(Including repeated dishes) here is my breakdown. (Small plates portions are for 1 person) Banh Beo Chen: rice cake was a bit thick and wasn’t oiled well so it was really hard to get out of the dish. Bo Bia vs. Bo Bia Chay: Chay(Veggie) version jicama was a bit crunchier Bo Bia normal was actually pretty good jicama was a lot softer in texture. Goi Cuon tasted similar to the other 2 cuons that it’s hard to say if it was good or not. Banh Tom Co Ngu: Crunchy and you could taste the sweet potato not overly battered good structure didn’t completely break apart and the medium mini shrimp were good also. Appreciated the shrimp in each bite. Mom approved. Cha Gio Ga & Cha Gio Chay: Both tasted pretty similar just the Ga one was a bit saltier. But both were just okay. Pate: chicken pate was really good bit crumbly. Pickled veggies was a nice plus. Only bad thing is that they gave you literally 3 pieces of bread. But Mom approved. Nom Du Du Hoan Kiem: This was actually pretty good. Although mom thought the papaya was a bit too crunchy for her she figured it should have a softer bite. She did like that there was 2 types of jerky in the salad. Bo Ne- steak was tender but a whole lot of butter…it was soaked. But at least there was pate with it..oh and a half a baguette with it. Banh Kot- thicker crepe then I am used to but I did appreciate it was hot had a crispy exterior. BF thought there was a bit too oily . Banh Bao – Surprised…it was actually good, meat was juicy nice slice of Chinese sausage and a half of an egg in it. Outside was nice and fluffy and steaming like burning hot. Which is awesome but it was burning our fingers. Banh Pate So- Not only was the pastry not even hot or crispy it was flat like a pancake and the meat inside was sour…and I mean it was spoiled meat. Mom took a bit and spit it out she was like its Chua…and not in a good way. Even the bf then I took a bit and it sure was. And I’ve eat a spoiled pate so before so I know when pork don’t taste right. Xiu Mai..: so here’s the deal it came on a banh mi as a sandwich…I am not sure if it was cooked cause it was still pink but it was juicy and not sure if it was sour because there was pickled daikon so I guess it was safe. Banh Mi Ga Roti- Probably about 4 thin pieces of chicken. Tasted okay but nothing memorable. Cute sandwich tho. Mi Xao Gion- Flavor was a bit bland but the let down is soggy noodles…that is not okay in a Mi Xao Gion…when the key word in there is “Gion” cause it was like a sponge that soaked all the juice up. But the seafood was cooked well. Com Tam Bi Cha Thit Nuong- Looked good and we got bamboozled. The Pork Loaf was spoiled I took one bite and spit it right out. The BF and mom were scared to even taste the bi because they didn’t know if it was spoiled. I didn’t eat the rice but the bf tasted it and said something wasn’t right either. I tried the Suon Nuong…Even though the menu said pork belly so I am confused as to how we ended up with a pork chop to begin with but it wasn’t bad. Dessert: Che Bap- Mom Approved in her words it’s so hot and good. Good sweetness from the corn and overall balanced flavor with the coconut milk. Frozen Yogurt with Fresh Berries- Mom Approved real fro-yo not faux-gurt. Fruit Salad- mango, blueberry and strawberries with crunchy mint. Nice freshness after our meal. So..you ask why 2 stars…Honestly I don’t like giving less then 3 stars even if my meal was mediocre. However I cannot ignore 2 spoil dishes, a kitchen backup and a lack of prese

Vietnam Taste – Menu with Prices – 666 Wonderland Rd N, London

We ordered some Vietnam Taste from JustEat.ca. We recently moved and wanted to find a place that sold Bun (Vermicelli Noodles) in our area. Vietnam Taste was the closest thing we found at the time, that was open on a Sunday night. When we opened up our food, we saw that they are using rice noodles but it definitely isn’t vermicelli. It was basically the size of spaghetti, maybe a bit bigger even. We had to order 2 of each topping choice on the dish. At most places, I order it with a spring roll and pork. I chose the “Spring Rolls and Pork” option, however I had to choose 2, so I picked it again because I didn’t want other meats. The dish came with 4 spring rolls and no pork. I was quite confused. The rolls were very hard and difficult to cut. I dont know if the pork was IN the roll itself but it didn’t taste like it. Either way, we weren’t too happy with our choice in changing restaurants. We will pass next time we are craving our favourite dish!

Metro Noodle and Boba – Menu with Prices – 635 N Main St, Corona

I ordered a few menu items to go. My buddy was visiting from long beach. He was craving asian food so i heard about metro noodle so have been wanting to try it. Ordered hanain.chicken. grilled pork spring rolls. Stirfried rice noodles and beef. And fried fish balls. Honestly all the food was horrible.the chicken tasted old and dry. The noodles the same. Rubbery and stale while the beef tasted almost recooked and leathery. The fish balls were ok. We got a few in the order i suppose. But the worst was the spring roll. I opened the plastic wrap to find the top of the spring roll was hard and i took the spring roll out and both bottoms were completely ripped open. Its obvious the spring roll is a day old from this. Im embarassed for the restaurant that would even serve this. I trued to take a bite. I made my own sauce. The sauce they served with it was straight from the bottle of fish sauce. In edible. The spring roll had lettuce. Rice noodle and a repeat of old grilled pork. No herbs..nothing. Obviously i wont be returning. I just wanted this to grt back to the owners of the restaurant. Truly disappointed because its so close to home and read good reviews

VO’s Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 9131 -51 Garden Grove Boulevard, Garden Grove

Still a winner in my book Somewhat far direction for banh mi when there’s so many choices in the area, but this place makes my heart happy – fried tofu with lemongrass banh mi is bombdotcom I come here when I’m lazy to drive to lb for vegetarian food lol so freaking flavorful – meatball (banh mi xiu mai) is chockfull of little porky tomatoey slightly sweet and savory morsels Recently tried their salted fish fried rice Flavor is down, but I prefer my rice slightly drier to attain that chewy texture. Plenty shareable as this fed two ppl from one Togo box Another roasted chicken dish with rice was quite yummy and homey Their sticky rice selection looks damn good – roasted chicken with pork floss – BBQ pork looks scrumptious, haven’t seen that one before – another chicken one that escapes my mind They tend to be heavy handed on the mayo/pate, so I always tend to ask them to lessen it in addition to pulling out the doughy part of the bread (so I don’t get food coma lol) Nice service as always One thing though, when I went at 930am on a weekday my bread was more floppy than crusty…

Banh Cuon Luu Luyen – Menu with Prices – 14351 Euclid St #1J, Garden Grove

In light of recent coverage in the LA Times and NY Times, I really wanted some banh cuon. Banh Cuon is an art form. A thin and light rice batter is spread thin on a steamer and then steamed until set. These delicate sheets are pulled off and then layered and folded or filled and rolled. It takes a deft hand to make them perfect. The family running Banh Cuon Luu Luyen makes them perfect…every single time. They can be ordered plain with cha lua or filled with grilled beef, ground beef with wood ear mushrooms, or ground shrimp. Or you can order the mega-combo and have a little bit of everything. Each table comes with a jar of house made seasoned fish sauce (nuoc mam/nuoc cham) and house made chile sauce (sambal). Mix your own combination and use with your banh cuon. So long as it’s banh cuon, you can’t go wrong. It’s delightful and so very good. And it’s a steal at $8 per plate…I would gladly pay more because this is such a great meal. Front of the house is run by the second generation of the family and is very hospitable. Just a warning…CASH ONLY. I grew up eating banh cuon and this is by far one of the best!

Kimlan Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 1035 N Broadway, Wichita

I’ve been wanting to try this place. I’ve read many really good reviews! So, on my day off today, after waking up from a nap, I was hungry! I first thought about getting a burger from one of our local burger places. Then I remembered Kimlan! I looked them up to find their hours and had only 30 minutes to get there! I’m about 20 minutes away. So I flew out the door! Fortunately I made it on time! I was torn between the Banh Mi Thit Nuong: thinly sliced pork marinated in lemongrass-soy dressing, no mayo. Or the Banh Mi Xa Xiu: sliced Chinese bbq pork. Both come with picked carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, cucumber and mayo (on the Banh Mi Xa Xiu). They were out of the Banh Mi Thit Nuong so that settled my decision! It was really, really delicious!!! Absolutely loved it. I bought 2 so I’d have one for work lunch tomorrow. Glad I did. The bread is light, airy and crunchy. My one issue, which was the reason for just 4 stars, was that IMO, it could have used more meat. I thought it was kind of sparse. Although at just $3.50 for a very decently sized sandwich, it was alright. I ate it at home and added some chicken breast I had. I also ordered some Crispy Egg Rolls ($2.00 for 3) which I would refer to as Spring Rolls (the smaller, thin wrapped rolls), with the fish sauce dipping sauce. They were also good. Typical Spring Rolls. So, all in all, I was very pleased with my meal! I will definitely go back! I want to try the one that they were out of tonight. Also have to try their Bun Thit Nuong Cha Goo: grilled pork & egg roll vermicelli ($6.75). That is one of my favorites! Their prices are incredibly reasonable!

Natalie’s Baguette | Banh Mi, Crepes and beignets | Vietnamese Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 10407 Main St, Fairfax

I usually go to Eden when I’m craving for banh mi, but I didn’t have enough tome to drive out for my lunch today so I yelped looking for a closer place that serves banh mi. I work at GMU and we have a banh mi stand at the Johnson Center, but it isn’t authentic at all so I don’t bother to go there. I found this place and looked at the pictures, figured it would satisfy my craving but unfortunately I was left disappointed. In the picture of the “deconstructed banh mi” I was under the impression I would have pate on my sandwich, but I didn’t. That could be a simple misunderstanding, so no stars knocked off for that. However, they didn’t include that much of the hot green pepper and my sandwich was… soggy… it didn’t seem fresh at all. I want my banh mi to be crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside- this was just… meh. I’m also a little disappointed that they don’t serve goi cuon- I got one of the egg roll and spring roll with the pork and it just wasn’t good. Eggroll was also soggy, soft, and… dripping with oil while the spring roll was just left with more to be desired. I really wanted to like this place so I didn’t have to venture further out- but I think I’ll stick with falls church for my Vietnamese food fix. I’ve included a pic- it might look halfway decent but… the taste just wasn’t there.

Kai Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5045 Cottage Hill Rd, Mobile

Let me just say I have been going to Kai for YEARS. I have sung their praise to anyone that would listen. Their Ramen truly WAS the best in the city. I have also NEVER sent a dish back at a restaurant. Me and my husband went tonight and they have completely changed their Ramen. I got the pork ramen like I always do and it was god awful. They not only changed the type of meat but also the way they cook it. The pork or what they claim to be “pork belly” was two paper thin slices of pork chop, boiled. It was bland to say the very least. The broth was bland, and the noodles were way over cooked they literally fell apart when I tried to eat them. They tasted just as bland as the broth and pork. I asked our waitress, who was sweet when we first arrived, to take it back. Now when they took it back I could hear the back of the house raising all kinds of racket and talking all kinds of crap about me and sending it back. Spoiler, when no one is there and it’s quiet your customers can hear you talking about them up front just FYI. I ordered their Mobillian roll. When I got it, it was even worse than the Ramen. It was half fried and fell apart as soon as I picked it up. I ate 3 pieces and asked for a box. The picture is of the fall out after eating just 3 pieces!! At least I can feed my dogs with it I guess. KAI has severely went down hill, from service to quality. I will never go back. Never. I advise anyone reading this to do the same. You can do better for the price, there are a million sushi places in a 3 mile radius that are better quality for the same price with much better service.
