I tried BBQ brisket for the first time at the Los Angeles county fair a LOOOOOOONG time ago, from some super random BBQ stand and it instantly became my favorite smoke-flavored meat. Since then I’ve searched for that flavor and texture and nothing has even come close: enter Vic’s. Vic’s was recommended to us by Joe A. from the Red Roof inn, shout out to him… cool dude with real, honest opinions about Austin’s BBQ. I knew I was in for something special from the moment I walked in: a smoky aroma filled the air. I turned to my fiancé with eyes wide open ready to feast. We wanted to try as much as possible so we got two “two-meat” plates, two sides and a big Texas-sized drink: at about $12 a plate ($14 w/ribs) this was a deal. The taste? Unbelievable. I can’t even describe the feelings and emotions I felt while eating, EVERYTHING was delicious, even the slaw and potatoes salad both of which I NEVER touch. The corn, slaw, baked beans, and potato salad were off the chain. The star of the show, the “MEATS” were AMAZING. I walked in with expectations molded from foggy memory, Vic’s slapped that memory and told it to go home. The brisket, the chicken, the ribs and the sausage were THE BEST. I feel like Vic’s collected all of my favorite smoked foods from my past and put them in one restaurant, I love it and hate that there’s no Vic’s in Los Angeles. Thank you Vic’s, you made me and my fiancé very happy people today.

PT’S Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 601 S 9th St, Springfield

Okay, so I got this referral to PT’s from my phlebotomist as she took blood out of my arm. We talked of local foods, and she asked if I had tried PT’s for ribs. I hadn’t, so I decided that I would stop by on the way home and try it out. This review is a result of that visit. I purchased a meal of a half-rack of ribs with two sides, cole slaw and baked beans, a kind of traditional meal of ribs. Here are my remarks: Simply the best ribs I have had in my memory [which has flaws now that I am older, but for food it is like a bear-trap!]. There is no better ribs in this city, and if there is, please let me know so I can give them a try. I actually smoke a heck of a rib myself, in my back yard smoker, to the rave reviews of all my family and my guests. But I can’t really compete with PT’s ribs. Meaty, smoked to perfection, fall-off-the-bone tender, with just the small amount of fat to make them taste divine yet not fatty at all. The bark was perfection, and the flavor was excellent. The most tasty ribs I have tasted. I just had ribs at Smokey Bones, and I would rate them at a 5 or 6 on a scale of ten. PT’s rate a ten, straight up! They are now the standard by which I will rate all other ribs I try for the next year or so. I am not sure I will find any better, really. I also bought two sides, cole slaw and baked beans. Both sides were of high quality and tasted wonderful! To describe the cole slaw, it was similar [but not the same as] the former KFC cole slow before someone screwed with the recipe and produced that slop they serve today. PT’s cole slaw has a sweet-tart sauce that was excellent. The baked beans were excellent, too, with a kind of flavor that at first I did not quite recognize, but I think there was just a touch of cinnamon in that brown sugar that was used, and it finished the beans in a most delightful way. A half-rack of huge ribs with two sides for only $14. Fine deal with excellent food! Try it soon.

Joe-Bear & Sons Texas BBQ – Menu with Prices – 3096 Napier Ave #3854, Macon

I ordered brisket and rib platter with sides of cole slaw and collards with a piece of corn bread. Ribs were big, meaty, and really good, nice flavor and perfectly cooked. The collards were also very good. The cole slaw was just what I expected, very nice. I was very dissapointed by the brisket, it was inedible. So dry and chewy, I would have been too embarrassed to serve it. More like jerky than brisket. It looked like pan scrapings. The corn bread was equally as bad, burned and dry. I got the spicy sauce on the side for my ribs, it was good, but not very spicy.

Big Box Catering – Menu with Prices – 5014 Ross Ave, Dallas

The bbq sauce, both regular and spicy, are DELICIOUS. It’s really good! However, I don’t think I’d recommend. Read on… Sides: Mac and cheese, potato salad, corn bread, beans, and cole slaw. Go big or go home right? The potato salad was tasty but can’t say much about any of the other sides. Mac and cheese had the texture of thick, fake cheese, cole slaw was missing something, both were just EH. My boyfriend liked the corn bread though. Beans were ok as well. The sides were just… ok… and that’s the problem. As for the meat, ordered lean, sliced brisket and maybe that’s not a good idea bc obviously the fattier cut is always better, but it just wasn’t good. The sauce saved the meat to be honest. My boyfriend also got the sausage and when I asked if it was good he just responded with, it’s alright. It’s a shame bc the inside is pretty chill. They had football games on all the TVs inside. And there’s a drive-thru. It just didn’t WOW me like Texas BBQ should. I’ve had better, as some would say.

Hank’s Smoked Briskets – Menu with Prices – 3736 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr St, Indianapolis

Not worth the wait! Arrived at 4:20pm in a Friday and didn’t get our food to take home until around 5:30pm. There were 3 orders in front of us and a steady flow after us. Two people working, Hank and a lady. After they gave the customers waiting their orders they then took ours and the couple behind us. While waiting and watching it seems they take 2-3 orders at a time and after filling those they take more orders. However, they don’t explain this or greet those waiting to place an order. After picking up your order you pay. Definitely not the friendliest either. They expect you to know your order when at the window. I was surprised that they actually seemed perturbed with our larger order. You would think a large order with sides, desserts and several pounds of meat would be appreciated. Interior is small waiting area with about 5-6 chairs to sit while waiting on your order. There’s a TV with the menu scrolling and that’s about it. Do have to say the aroma of the BBQ was wonderful while waiting! Brisket & ribs, cole slaw and baked beans were alright. We like our ribs to fall off the bone and these weren’t as tender as we usually like. Brisket was very fatty and needed a little more seasoning. Side of potato salad was probably the worst we’ve had in a long time. Potato salad was almost a greenish yellow color and had a curry or funny spice taste to it. People only tried a bite and tossed the rest. Baked beans were tasty especially if put some chopped brisket mixed in them. Caramel apple and peach cobblers were okay. Being raised in Texas and growing up with BBQ, our group was disappointed especially after such a long wait! Looks like we will be looking for another BBQ joint here in Indy.

Read Street BBQ – Menu with Prices – 421 Read St, Evansville

First time visit from great recommendations from a Facebook group. Very clean and welcoming decor looked like a real bbq shack. The sauces and napkins in the cheap tool box was kinda silly. and very sloppy. We ordered 3 meat meal with 2 sides. we got the mac and cheese and promptly returned it for green beans and baked beans. The mac and cheese was just not right. like it hadnt been cooked long enough for all the cheese to melt together. Her green beans were very overcooked and looked sad. The baked beans were pretty good but a little spicy for my taste. We chose brisket and ribs. The brisket was spot on and the ribs had a good taste but a dry rib. The smoke ring on the brisket looked like a liquid ring not a smoke ring but the flavor was good. Probably not quite worth the money as other commercial bbq places but the food was decent. We did ask after we ordered and were sitting down about burnt ends. The waitress said no and then asked what they were. Kind of disapointing in a bbq shack.

Charlie’s BBQ & Bakery – Menu with Prices – 2309 E Main St, Chattanooga

Small unassuming joint with great BBQ and some unique twists on our old southern staple…BBQ cannolis! Who would have thought to stuff an Italian favorite with a southern favorite?!?? Well Charlie’s BBQ & Bakery did it and they are incredibly tasty! I don’t believe they are on the menu yet, (may be) but ask to see if they can fix you a couple up. Delicious pork packed into what is the best cannoli shell I have ever had the pleasure of crunching into! That was a bonus for me, that the owner just wanted my friend and I to try them as she is considering adding them to the menu a couple days a week. On to the main course… I had the brisket plate and I am a bit of a brisket snob so I can be pretty hard to impress. The brisket they served up though was on point. Perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, well seasoned and passed the pull test with flying colors. My sides were slaw and baked beans, both of which were excellent. I especially appreciated the slaw as it is vinegar based dressing which is my favorite. I am not sure if you noticed but they also have Bakery in their name and from what I saw, they are total pros with the old mixer and rolling pin. I am not a big sweets guy, but my next visit, dessert is going to be a must try for me as they looked amazing!

The Bar @ Saucehouse Menu with Prices 820 W Broad St, Athens

I’m not usually a big BBQ person but I do appreciate BBQ once in a (long) while. My workplace ordered some dishes for a work lunch and although we were in the area, Saucehouse wasn’t able to deliver to us because they require a minimum of a 25-person party in order to deliver so my supervisor had to go pick it up. We ordered a variety of dishes (pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, Brunswick stew, mac n’ cheese, baked beans, green bean casserole, potato salad, slaw, peach cobbler) and we also had an assortment of sauces (house, sweet molasses, pork, very hot & sweet, Alabama White/horseradish) but I only tried a few. The beef brisket was on point. It wasn’t overly shredded but the pieces weren’t in big chunks either; it was just the right size for eating and enjoying. The pulled pork was a little dry but it was more enjoyable when paired with a sauce. You really can’t go wrong with green bean casseroles, which I did enjoy, and the mac n’ cheese looked baked, which I didn’t mind but it was a little dry. The ribs were alright; I can honestly say that my friend makes better ribs but maybe it’s a personal preference kind of thing because I like my ribs to be able to fall off the bone. The very hot & sweet was the only sauce I tried but I really liked it. I couldn’t taste anything sweet but there was a tartness to it, and the spice gradually built up as you continued to eat it. I definitely recommend it to all you spicy-lovers out there. My coworkers enjoyed Saucehouse; they like it better than Fox Bros in Atlanta. I liked the beef brisket the best out of everything we ordered. Would I recommend Saucehouse? I don’t know, but I would recommend trying it out despite my review because who knows? Maybe you’ll like it better than I did.

GD Barbeque Menu with Prices 2504 Government St, Baton Rouge

My husband brought home his leftovers for me…so thoughtful. Regardless it was delicious, some of the best BBQ I have had in a long time and the husband agreed too. The brisket was perfectly cooked and the ribs were excellent! The ribs had the right amount of pull when you bit into them…note ribs should not be “fall off the bone” that is called pat roast. Thank you to GD pitmaster for knowing how to properly cook ribs. The potato salad and beans were very tasty. I will return for my own meal very soon.

Mulberry BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2441 N 11th St, Lincoln

Amazing BBQ. I would say the best in town. The ribs are smoked in just a way it doesn’t fall off the bone, but is juicy and tender. They were dry rubbed ribs and perfectly seasoned. And there was a lot of meat on those bones. The pulled pork wasn’t dried out like other BBQ places in this town. The burnt ends were actually moist and tender with a nice spicy kick to it. Unlike other places, where the burnt ends might as well be beef jerky due to the toughness. The smoked chicken was actually half of a whole chicken and amazingly juicy. The sliced brisket was also amazing with a nice spice to it. The potato salad had a homemade quality to it and tasted great. The Mac n Cheese was super cheesy with large shells instead of the normal elbow noodles. You could tell it was made from scratch unlike the made from a box taste other restaurants will serve. The only think surprising is the bbq beans. It isn’t the normal beans you maybe familiar with. They must be more of a North Carolina style of baked beans. Not the normal Bush’s Baked beans others are serving. Still the beans were good, but with a lot of kick to it. So if you like some spiciness, you should try the beans and the burnt ends. For the price, you get plenty of delicious BBQ.

Chuckwagon BBQ – Menu with Prices – 11700 Memorial Pkwy SW Suite H, Huntsville

I was expecting to be blown away considering the reviews and reddit stating this is the place to go for BBQ. The food was decent. I got the ribs and brisket. I was hoping for a lean or moist brisket option but that didn’t appear to be the case. At first, I would’ve preferred three ribs and less brisket rather than the two ribs, but I didn’t really care for the ribs. They had good flavor, but were not tender. The bbq beans were great, and the Mac and cheese was eh. They asked me if I wanted toast or jalapeño cornbread, so I asked which one they liked, but the response I received was “I haven’t tried either”. Seems like you probably want to know what your food tastes like if you’re going to sell it to people. Might go again to check out the sausage or chicken.

Big Storm Brewing Co. – Menu with Prices – 12707 49th St N, Clearwater

We came in and sat at the bar. I noticed that today they have a BBQ menu during lunch hour. The Queen Bee, as it turns out, was in the mood for BBQ so I said why not? Good choice; Julie was our server/barkeep. Very friendly and knowledgeable, and guided us on our way. We both had Surfline Lager, which is a strong and lovely tasting brew. It pairs well with BBQ I’d venture to say, although it was a guess at the time. Meanwhile, we looked at the options in the BBQ menu. Queen Bee had half rack of ribs with Mac n cheese and baked beans. Ribs were fall off the bone tender and yummy smoked aftertaste. Beans were totally awesome with little bits of pulled pork swimming in their awesome Key Lime sauce. Mac and cheese has never been something I liked as a rule. However this stuff was smooth and creamy. Cheddar was cut with some Gouda to get rid of that crappy yellow cheese flavor. I chose the open faced brisket with a side of fries and cole slaw. Slaw was nice, crisp and creamy; the missus is fussy about slaw but even she liked it! Fries were shoestring; not my favorite but at least they were crisp and not salted as I requested. OK: enough about sides and such; on to the brisket!!! Probably about a third pound of smoky unctuousness slapped on a piece of toasted garlic bread. I’ve never had fork tender brisket, but this is as close as I’ll likely ever find. Wow! They have four sauces to chose from…One is the above-named key lime, which has a subtly sweet flavor. They also have an oddball honey mustard sauce. It actually tasted like Big Mac special sauce, but with a kick at the end; not my first choice, but not bad. Queen Bee loves chipotle peppers, so she tried the chipotle one; she liked it. However our number one pick was their mojo sauce. Wow; best BBQ sauce I’ve had in eons!! Smoky, spicy, sweet and scrumptious. This menu is only for Friday afternoon, too! I look forward to trying their regular menu and sampling some of their other beers. Hip atmosphere, good music and great service. Way to go Big Storm!

Backyard BBQ – Menu with Prices – 323 S Phillips Ave, Sioux Falls

We really wanted to like this place. I am only giving this review based on the food. Service would be a 5. We had the chislic, brisket sliders, ribs and sides- mac n cheese, fries, beans. Beans great! Sweet flavor and are really good. Mac n cheese – ok as a side, don’t except to be WOWED! Fries – oh my. Easy on the seasoning. So so salty. Too too much. Now for the meat. The chislic was good. We appreciated the waitresses suggestion on this and it was good. Ribs are a dry rub. They were good and the meat fell off the bone. We’re not huge fans of dry rub but that is us. Brisket slider- you can see the seasoning in the meat there is soooo much. It’s saltier than any meat I’ve tried in bbq. The pork. Yikes. I took 1 bite. It literally tasted like garbage. I had the most awful after taste in my mouth i could not get out. I started with the ribs poor hubby started with the sandwiches. Brisket was so salty he anticipated the same with the pork and bathed it in the bbq sauce at the table. Wish we had eaten at the same time so i could have stopped him. I could not eat another bite and was disgusted by the after taste. We paid and left but we’re certain this meat was rancid. Husband was immediately sick and this definitely put a damper on the vacation. He spent the night in the bathroom and son and I had to get a 2nd dinner. Hoping this was a serious 1 off situation.
