We were passing through Springfield, OR today and was looking for a good salad place so we checked Yelp and came up with Veg Salad Craft. Hey together, they specialize in salads. The concept is actually quite simple. They have all the ingredients on hand and they can put together anything that you asked them to do or you can simply order any of the 20+ salads that are listed. The format is very similar to a pizza place where they have pieces already set up on the menu and when you asked for them they put them up and bake them. Or you can custom build your own pizza and in this case your own custom salad. My wife had spring the dirty birds. It’s made up of romaine, Pico de Gallo, roasted corn, black beans, project cheese, avocado, chicken, tortilla strips, SouthWest spice mix, jalapeno ranch dressing. Yes, that was chicken. She liked it a lot. It comes into sizes and she got the smaller and she was very satisfied. It was nicely tossed and easily dressed that you like the whole thing. They even asked if you want it tossed or leave the dressing on the side. The regular is $9 and the large is $12. I had a steak and spring vegetables salad. It had arugula and mixed greens , beefsteak strips, watermelon radish , cucumber, pickled onion , goat cheese, hard-boiled egg, basil, mint, and chives. It was finished with the green goddess dressing . The regular was $10 and I got the large one that at $13. I thought it was a very hearty salad and I wasn’t hungry after I ate it but I was not particularly enthused about it. Addressing was tasty and the greens were super fresh but I thought it should add more beef strips . I also had a tomato, potato, cream soup. It was good. It was a ten thick and a bit grainy but it had a good taste. It was $4. One small quibble – they don’t have soup spoons, just the standard plastic spoon, knife and fork. The two salads, soup, plus a bottle of Honest Tea came to $29 total. There’s no sales tax in Oregon. That made it so very inexpensive dinner for two. The place is bright, clean and had a very open and airy feel to it prices were reasonable. My rating would’ve been higher except that the one loan staff person that was doing the work behind counter didn’t have her mind on the job. Getting close to closing so maybe she was distracted knowing what she had to do to close up.

Daily Greens – Menu with Prices – 28 Monument Sq, Portland

Located on the 2nd floor (and I’m glad I read that on other yelp reviews as it was rather hard to find), you enter thru a common area with other eateries (bread counter on the 1st floor and a few other things) and some kind of construction beyond the bread establishment. Elevator access is available as is a staircase to the very back of the building taking you to the second floor. We took the stairs and at the top the stairs to our left was a was a booth with Lebanese specialties, next to that a pho booth that was closed (on Saturday and Sundays), a burrito booth, a booth that sold arepas, a coffee booth and Daily Greens. There were many options as well as a make your own salad option. I chose the salmon salad and my friend the hippy bowl with chicken. As both are being made, I inquired about the seating out in front of the building and the young lady said they belonged to these businesses and was dog friendly. She even added that she thought the inside was dog friendly. We had a dog in the car and she invited us to bring him in. It took about 10 minutes or so for the salads to be made right in front of you. As my friend waited, I went to get the dog and as I returned the salads were ready. Both packed in a plastic container that was fairly tall and skinny. As my friend opened hers, she realized the chicken was missing and brought it back so they re-tossed her salad with the chicken. My salad contained a good amount of salmon with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, soba noodles tossed in a mildly spicy ginger sesame vinaigrette. The hippy bowl contained kale, quinoa, avocado, onions, hemp seeds (and possibly a few other things) tossed in a light avocado based dressing. Both totaled around $23. Very filling but the shape of the bowls made it a challenge to eat ..we thought. Open seating, artsy vibe with art work for sale by local artists hanging on the walls. Space seems unfinished but we think that’s the vibe. Good place for a big bowl of fresh greens! Very friendly counter service.

Jack’s Urban Eats – Menu with Prices – 5936, 8620 Sierra College Blvd #110, Roseville

Hubs jokingly asked as I ate my disappointing Santa Fe Chicken salad, “Is this place dead to you?” I hate to be that extreme, but yes. A few years ago they had a Thai grilled Shrimp salad. It was DELICIOUS! I ate it about 3 times a month until I came in one day and they stopped making it. I tried a few other salads and none were as tasty. Each time I asked if they’d bring it back. I stopped going for a couple years. Then one of my hubs friend’s wife said you have to try their Santa Fe Chicken salad. Still disappointing. Lots of ribs with no lettuce attached. Chips were soggy and stale. Not freshly crumbled and tossed with the dressing. Then there were random bits of things and patches of flavors that did not compute for my salad. My hubs finally said I bet they tossed your salad in a bowl that had another completely different salad and flavor profile. That made sense. Finally, I flipped the lid back down or the boneyard as hubs called the pile of naked lettuce ribs and threw it away. This place is just not for me.

Fattoush Lady – Menu with Prices – 73-99 Slater St, Ottawa

I believe Madame Fattoush Lady was located somewhere else before closing and re-opening at this new location fairly recently (this year, I think). Many people were excited for them to come back, so, of course, I had to stop in. I had been craving a fattoush salad and decided to grab one to go on the way to work. The line-up was to the door, which was a good sign that it was so busy, but service was fast. Unlike most other shawarma places, the fattoush salad here was already made and in a large quantity, rather than having to be assembled as people ordered. It was very popular, so the container kept getting refilled with fresh salad. I ordered a medium chicken fattoush salad (a large comes with one or two salads, like fattoush, tabbouleh, or Greek), which also comes with a serving of garlic sauce or hummus, and a quarter of a thin pita bread on the side, if you’d like. I saw a sign near the front that said they have spicy garlic and spicy hummus now as well. I went with the garlic sauce and asked for some tahini on top. The salad was not at all soggy, which you may expect if it was pre-tossed. I noticed it had also some extra veggies in it that you don’t often see in other fattoush salads, like little cauliflower florets and I think some broccoli – great addition for texture and heartiness. The pita bread in the salad is baked instead of fried, so not as crunchy as I would have liked, but definitely crunchier than I expected, especially when they were already tossed in the salad. I like a lot of garlic sauce, so I thought the portion they scooped on the side may not have been enough, but it was perfect and stronger than some others I’ve had, which is great (for me, but not for my colleagues). The salad dressing itself was just the perfect amount of tartness and sourness for me – lemon juice, I think, and super refreshing. Unlike the beef that was in a container with the marinade(?), the chicken was the only meat on the vertical rotating spit to shave off. Surprisingly, it was far more tender and moist than I thought it would be – an opposite experience to other chicken shawarmas I’ve had. I don’t typically prefer chicken because it tends to be overcooked, but this was done just right and very flavorful. The service was fast and friendly, and the filling meal was under $10 with tax, which is unheard of and usually at least $13 or so without tax. I was happy with absolutely everything about it, and the restaurant itself is modern and clean, so I may even sit in one day to try their other wraps and potatoes. Recommend this place 110%.

First Class Pizza – Menu with Prices – 6420 Irvine Blvd, Irvine

I used to live in this area a few years ago and I remember First Class Pizza as being super greasy and not very good. Well, fast forward to now and the pizza I ate here was delicious. I’m not sure if anything changed, but I’m with it now. We ordered a large salad to accompany the pizza and I was very impressed. Normally salads at pizza places are an after thought. Not here. The lettuce was fresh and the salad was beautifully dressed with toppings. Definitely not what I was expecting. The beer list is dope and they even have really good bottles available. My only complaint was that the service was kinda slow. I would have thought they’d drop off the salad first, but they didn’t bring it until after they dropped off the pizza. It’s always good when your local pizza spot is good.

Berry Salads – Menu with Prices – 5870 E Broadway Blvd #162, Tucson

I didn’t like this fast food salad restaurant. I ordered a “small” salad because I didn’t really know what to do. Half the menu (maybe more) is dedicated to the “small” salad. The “small” salad is an awkward large size. It was served in an industrial size steel mixing bowl with a plastic fork. It is odd to eat out of such a large bowl. It felt like eating over a sink, not comfortable. The salad itself wasn’t the best. Ordering the salad, you get a choice of one “protein” it seemed to be just a couple of different chicken options and some strange looking quinoa. It was hard to hear the women working behind the glass. I had to ask her to repeat herself, then I just gave up. Nothing is labeled so you just have to listen to your salad maker. I chose the chicken salad. I wouldn’t order it again. Then I chose a cheese and only four toppings. The dressing options seemed quite creamy. I chose balsamic but it was still super emulsified. Ordering a “small” salad is like being at a salad bar but with someone else making your salad for you. For this experience it costs over $9, when the tax is added. If you are in the mood for a custom salad I would recommend the build-your-own pizza place just up the road. Their salad option is tastier, less expensive, and they don’t limit your toppings.

Al’s Gyros Chicago’s Finest – Menu with Prices – 5932 W Bell Rd, Glendale

I love this place. Really do. Had many dishes on their menu. I cant get enough of the Mediterranean salad with chicken. Its large and plentiful with chicken. So good. My problem is with pick up orders. When I get the salad, I ask for the Greek dressing to be on the side (so it doesnt saturate the lettuce if I were to keep for leftovers, which I do) I was told it always does. That order came with dressing on the side, so when I ordered again I didnt ask, bc… dressing always came on the side for to go orders.. that didn’t happen. I was very disappointed. But since this place is so good and despite me moving and it’s a ways further, I still come here! So I order again and specifically say please put the dressing on side. Ok no problem. I get to pay and notice I dont see the dressing. I’m given one and I go home. Start to eat and noticed the dressing is all on the bottom of the container. So sad! I wont stop coming here, but please stop it LOL! Get it together

Market Street At Heath Brook – Menu with Prices – 4414 SW College Rd #952, Ocala

5 stars! You know why, same rule for all my reviews. If you provide what you are supposed to and advertise something and driver that actual thing, then I give 5 stars. I would have a different name but who cares. I had to make an educated guess what it was once I saw the name. And it was exactly what I thought. Chopped Salads with a million options and simple thin crispy pizzas again with a lot of options. The price is what you would expect for very fresh ingredients and made fresh every order. I got a large salad with a bunch of toppings and added avocado which is an upcharge. Also got a bottled drink out of the cooler. My bill was like $12. Totally fine with that for what you are getting. You can look at the menu to see all the options for salad, pizza or even a wrap. This is my favorite thing for lunch or dinner. There is like 6 different choices for greens. There are about 8 different options for cheese. There’s about 20 salad toppings. 6 different seeds or nuts. 15 salad dressings. They can chop the whole thing up before putting on the dressing. Love this option as well. They have a tool that makes it so easy to chop up and love that when you are eating it. Then they throw your dressing on and mix that up. Makes for a perfect salad. Also found out up until 3pm you can order a slice of pizza. After that I think you only can get whole pizza. So if you are jonesing for some pizza at lunch just add a slice in the oven. So yums!! I’m impressed and love the concept. It’s super fast casual environment. Grab and go or stay and eat inside. They have a lot of ToGo containers so easy to take a salad on the run. I’m on coming back multiple times. There has been one other place in Ocala that has had this concept for a very long time. If you go to that place you know what I’m talking about. If not, you have no idea they do this same thing. It’s just not marketed like it is here and there’s way more options here. See you soon!!! I would drive from anywhere in the Ocala vicinity for this place. Lunch is a must. Or early dinner to go if you don’t feel like a beer or glass of wine. No alcohol here. Good Knight Now!!

Fork & Salad Orange – Menu with Prices – 240 W. Chapman Avenue Suite 102 ON, N Lemon St, Orange

At the Orange Circle, hidden away back behind Snooze, is the gem of a cafe known as Fork and Salad. This is their first site on the mainland with the rest residing in the Hawaiian Islands. Bright painted walls, clean new fixtures, exposed tall ceilings and old brick feature walls give Fork and Salad a modern vibe in an old town setting. A large bar displays fresh healthy ingredients for a custom salad or sandwich of your choosing. If ingredients like; Quinoa, purple cabbage, roasted beets, radish, kimchi, brussel sprouts, purple potato, cucumbers, kalamata olives, hummus, feta, Kale, spinach, purple sweet potato, raw beets, kimchi…sound good to you, then this is your place! They have all kinds of combinations of protein, vegetables, cheese and grains that can be combined into you custom designed meal. So many choices, so little time…so for my first visit I went with one of their predefined menu items; Greek salad. The salad arrived in a large bowl. I ordered it without protein and it was stacked with lots of vegetables including olives, Spring mix, romaine, chickpeas and tomatoes. I don’t like searching for dressing in a dry salad and this salad did not disappoint. Lots of crisp veggies and a good portion of dressing made this item a new favorite. Give Fork and Salad a try for some modern aloha dining.

Brooklyn Pizzeria – Menu with Prices – 9702 Spring Cypress Rd, Spring

So, after three times trying this place, it’s just not for me. The first experience was horrible. I had just gotten back from a trip that I didn’t want to be on, thought I’d stop by to get some dinner to go, and have enough for that dinner and the next day lunch. I should have checked the order before I left since the cashier didn’t, so when I got home, the high cost meal I ordered wasn’t even close (small pizza in the box compared to the large I had paid for), pasta instead salad, and a roll instead of dessert. Thought I’d give a second try for lunch one day, and the manager gave me a discount due to the prior experience and cost I paid for what I got the first time. However, once again I was disappointed. My Caesar salad was literally covered in croutons and so much dressing when I picked up the lettuce the dressing wasn’t just barely dripping off, it was pouring off. The pizza again did not impress. I was SO hoping for really great tasting non-chain like pizza, but it’s very bland and basic. Today, I thought, I’ll give them another try. I’m in a great mood and didn’t want to get out so I did delivery. Once again, the crust is almost impossible to chew (or cut) – all 3 experiences have been the same unfortunately. Again, it is very bland, that is, if you don’t count the salt (it’s extremely overpowering to the point it’s almost inedible). I tasted finally the tomato sauce (on the very outside of the pizza), but it, along with the crust, just seems like tomato sauce on bland pizza dough. I didn’t expect it to be a local replacement for a gourmet pizza place, but it’s not a place I’ll be going back to again. Maybe I’m not a fan of Brooklyn style pizza, but I’m definitely not a fan of this place.

Hunter-Gatherer Brewery/Taproom – Menu with Prices – 1402 Jim Hamilton Blvd, Columbia

Went here for the first time Friday night with another couple. Got there about 6:15PM and asked the woman working behind the bar how things worked..she said just take a seat anywhere, you order at the bar and they’ll bring the food out. We took a seat at a large booth and then ordered back at the bar. Menu is mainly pizzas, salads, and several appetizers (hummus with crostini, pretzel with mustard, spicy whole grain mustard and their homemade beer cheese dip, some tortilla chips with dips, meat and cheese trays…good selections). My wife and I ordered the pretzel and the hangar salad along with the 11 inch pepperoni pizza. Our friends ordered the hummus, 11 inch margarita pizza and the pretzel. My wife ordered a chardonnay and I tried a flight of four beers….Kubaba (Pomegranite), Hazy IPA, another IPA, and a pale ale. The pretzel was very good except they serve you the dipping sauces in very small metal cups. Our friends asked for another cup of the beer cheese (which is the best). We would’ve liked to have had another cup of the beer cheese but didn’t ask. They really should serve a little more of the beer cheese, but I guess rather than wasting it they can give it to you if you ask. Our friends thought the spicy dijon was way too spicy. My wife and I liked it. The regular mustard was just a plain yellow mustard. The hummus was very good, sort of had a refreshing lemon taste. The crustini was toasted a bit too crisp, but was good. We like our crostini crispy, but not as dark as their crostini was. Our friend was worried about it chipping a tooth! Our pizza was great. The waitress at the bar recommended the pizza, along with another couple ordering at the bar. Great crust, crisp, and the pepperoni was excellent tasting. I’d order it again. I definitely did not like the hazy IPA. The kebab was refreshing. I was hesitant to order a pomegranate beer, but on a hot summer day I did find it refreshing. I guess my favorite was the pale ale, but I’m to a beer specialist anymore since moving away from Wisconsin! The Hangar salad was good, fresh, with ricotta cheese and a oil/vinegar type dressing. Menu said parmesan crusted croutons but they just looked like regular store bought croutons to me…nothing special. Atmosphere is good, quite unique since you’re in a microbrewery. Seating outside and also seating on the roof with live music scheduled for Saturday. I’d go back for the pizza.

Yamasaki Teriyaki – Menu with Prices – 9 Dixwell Ave, New Haven

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Yamasaki Teriyaki as an option on Snackpass. I think we just found our new favorite quick, delicious, and cheap Asian-fusion place in New Haven! The restaurant itself is clean and spacious, and the servers and chefs are all so friendly. We ordered the Chicken Bento (with comes with chicken teriyaki over a bed of rice, a side salad with citrus Asian dressing, 3 pieces of gyoza, and 3 California roll sushis) and the Chicken Teriyaki Plus (with comes with chicken teriyaki, a choice of lo mein/fried rice/regular rice) a side salad with citrus Asian dressing, and your choice of hot & sour soup or miso. First of all, the portions are MASSIVE. For under eight dollars, you can get dish that could probably last you 2 meals. Second, the chicken teriyaki is of high quality, and the meat is tender and flavorful. The chicken strips are quite meaty, and they are all well seasoned with teriyaki sauce. The rice under the chicken teriyaki is incredibly soft and pillowy, kind of gummy, which is my favorite kind of rice! We ordered the chicken bento with vegetable lo mein, which was so savory and substantial. The gyoza in the chicken bento box could have been a little more flavorful, but the outside wonton skin was crispy! California roll was standard, and a nice touch. Finally, I have to mention that the dressing on the side salad is one of my new favorites – so tangy and creamy. In addition, I didn’t expect the salad leaves to be so fresh, which was definitely a nice surprise. I will definitely be coming back again!

Paradise Food & Bar – Menu with Prices – 12485 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando

The name bakery is misleading because this is a wonderful cafe. They have a great assortment of bakery items, empanadas, ice cream, wraps and salads. A very nice assortment of beverages besides coffee, juices, beer, wine and cocktails. The decor theme is garden but in very clean and comfortable way. I stepped to the counter and ordered a quinoa salad and I tried one of the chicken empanadas. I chose to add chicken to the quinoa salad. This was a super salad. A large very tasty salad which could make two meals for me. I liked that the salad was mixed in a bowl instead of just quinoa placed on a bed of lettuce. It had tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, quinoa, lettuce spring mix, and nuts in a house made salad dressing which had a hint of ginger. The chicken was a generous serving and I really loved this salad. I definitely would order this again. I also ordered a chicken empanada. I actually prefer the smaller ones that are not a bunch of fried dough. This one was just the right size and I enjoyed the chicken filling. They have sandwiches and wraps available in the case and ready to go. They seem to come with a sprinkling of chips. They had a chicken parmigiana which I want to try next time. They plan to offer a happy hour. Right now they are in their soft opening. The only thing I did not enjoy was that my quinoa salad came with a plastic spork. It is a personal preference and with the small quinoa and larger pieces of chicken I am not sure which utensil is appropriate. Paradise Bakery is a great addition to the neighborhood
