Utopia Soul Cafe, Dr. MLK,Jr, Blvd. Ft. Myers, Fl. Here is my 2 cents on the food and chatter. Chatter… It has been 5 years since I have been here. They have been open closed then open again. They are now open… It has changed. From being a full restaurant to a hole in the wall for working class folks. BUT the food is still good and for me economical. I got fish and fries with a soda, 5 bucks Taste good and cheap…You can get burger for the same price. They serve breakfast all day… :-). Staff is wonderfull. A couple of tips…Parking lot in rear, parking on street iffy. There is a hair salon next door called Utopia Salon.

Xinantecatl Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1421 N Clovis Ave Suite 101, Fresno

Tried out this new spot. The staff is very friendly and explained the menu and specials for lunch. I ordered a double cheese burger with no onions, came with fries but no soda, I added on a soda to my order. Got my order and dug in….the meat is not fresh and had that freezer Brown look to it, very dry, tough, and salty. The bottom of the burger bread was totally soggy from the juice of the tomatoes and mayo spread they put on it. I am not exaggerating. French fries are just basic frozen crinckly fries from the grocery store. The soda was not dialed in properly as I got a mountain dew and it taste horrible. All in all I think there is too much on the menu and for that reason they turn to frozen food as most of the items on the menu are frozen fried products. A small place like this may not have the volume of a McDonald’s however they should take advantage of that and cook fresh food vs. Frozen food. If that burger was fresh hand made burger patties it would taste 10 times better. They mentioned to me that they recommend the shrimp fries, well with frozen fries I will not order them. I will try you guys again for breakfast to update my review. The customer has spoken.

Johnny Rodriguez The Salon – Menu with Prices – 7500 Windrose Ave Suite B193, Plano

The short of it: they are high end place with all professional stylists and worth every penny (also, their price list is right online so there are no secrets here), open late and early Sunday-Saturday for convenience, valet parking in front or attached garage is literally right there. They want to offer the BEST experience and if you’re having a bad hair day, book your appointment now and stop looking. Johnny and Kate are a bit expensive to see, but their protégés are just as good and priced for the rest of us. I heard about the salon from the Legacy West Podcast. Yes, I’m a dork and you’re invited on the journey. The novel: I decided to go to a cheap place to get highlights. I ended up with worse than 90s chunky highlights, no toner, and a demarcation line. I called John Rodriquez the Salon 2 hours later (after a cooling off period) asking for a coloring expert–how much would it be to get this fixed and is coming in the same day too much on my hair? Lily put me in touch with Chrissie who was so sweet. She answered my questions patiently and was empathetic–it’s what I needed in the moment. She offered to take a look and do a free consultation. I said I would call back. (After conferring with my sweet hubby he said “go in and get it fixed, consult, color, cut–whatever you need”.) So I called back and booked all three for a few hours later. THEY’RE OPEN EARLY AND LATE! I came in for a 5:30pm appointment and Chrissie made my hair right again. She asked if I would be okay doing more blonde or if I wanted to blend my hair a little darker and got my input before taking the easy route (I wanted more blonde, so that worked great). She took notes about my desired cut and during styling gave me tips to style when I asked. She didn’t recommend any products as I didn’t ask, so I didn’t feel pressured to buy anything extra. I will NEVER try to save a few bucks on my hair again and I will just go see to this salon.

Style Loft Hair Studio – Menu with Prices – 1601 Kapiolani Blvd Suite 100, Honolulu

This salon is located across the street from Shokudo and next to Tea Boss and Pho One on Kapiolani. Sorry, I don’t know the name of the building itself. It’s near Ala Moana and a few minute walk to Don Quijote. The salon’s location is in an odd place (IMO) because it’s on the side of the building and can be easily missed unless you’re specifically looking for the salon. The Salon opened in January or February so it’s fairly new. Many of the stylist have been in the field for many years!! The stylist community is smaller than I thought. My stylist asked me about my previous stylist and she knew her!! I parked at Target and walked to the Salon. You can also park on the bottom level of Ala Moana. As far as I know, street parking is limited and not sure if you’re able to park in the building’s lot. As I walked in, I thought the salon had a lot of space. Great for both stylist and client to walk around and enough space between stations. The receptionist checked me in and guided me to the dressing room to put a robe on. She also asked me if I wanted a beverage as well ? On this day, I came in to color my hair. I sent my stylist a few pictures of what I wanted. The stylist did warn me that the process was long. Thanks for the heads up!! We highlighted, washed, toned, washed, then styled. The cost of my hair coloring was about $200. IMO is a great price! Overall, I loved the result of my hair and look forward to coming back. It’s hard to find a stylist that meets your hair needs. I highly recommend any of the stylist at Style Loft.

Checkers Grill – Menu with Prices – 765 The City Dr S # 130, Orange

Convenience, affordability, and taste, are the main reasons for the quantity of stars given. This is and nothing more than a simple cafe. So in the realm of competing cafes this place is pretty good. For those looking to valet their BMW, sit amongst the rich and famous in plush leather booths, and hoping to be wined and dined with the golden spoon they grew up with, I can tell you now that this is not the place for you. Shall we begin? Yes! The name is Checkers Grill, not a grill, Cafe at best. But there is seating for maybe twenty, there is a well displayed menu, lots of snacks and drinks that can be purchased and taken on the go. My favorite is the price, how hard is it to get a cheap bite to eat? Hard. Bacon avocado cheese burger with fries and a drink all al a carte was about $8. Yes and the breakfast burrito is about $4. The food is good for what it is, my bacon breakfast burrito was well portioned and had a better then average balance of egg, bacon, and cheese. At first I felt it was a little small, but after finishing it I was quite content. My burger was above decent. It was a simple burger, but once again for the price you will find no complaints from me. They serve up the Del Taco style crinkle fries and my batch was perfect. Crunchy on the outside yet light and airy on the inside. If you see the picture in the gallery there is clearly a mound of the deep fried delectables. They did not skimp on the fries. Overall I get this friendly home cooking feel. Example, the cups are left by the soda machine which gives off a comforting vibe of trust. The staff is extremely friendly and eager to make everything just right. So would I pull off the road to eat here, no, but I work in the area and may become obese and sign over half a paycheck to them so we will see.

James burger Menu with Prices 1431 James Rd, Bakersfield

We were driving by and saw this newish Burger Place and took a chance. I ordered the Bacon Burger Combo and my husband had the Jalapeño Burger Combo. It was about $13 bucks a piece. But definitely worthy of the price! It was not your average frozen patty…it was a juicy restaurant quality burger. The bun was Brioche…I think? It was soft and delicious. The bacon was crispy and my husband’s jalapeños were fresh and grilled! So 5 stars for this burger joint! Only suggestion is, turn down the air. It was a little warm inside and its a HOT day and a little cluttered…but we will definitely be back!

Jackson’s Corner Menu with Prices 1500 NE Cushing Dr #100, Bend

Wanted to try something different from our normal jaunts for breakfast and landed here. We expected it to be busy because of the Easter Holiday and were pleasantly surprised to see multiple open tables both inside and out (as we’ve seen this place packed to the gills on other occasions). We ordered a breakfast Sammy (just egg, sausage and cheese on a sweet bun) and a brunch burger (basically the same as above with burger instead of sausage and lots of sauce). We each ordered a kombucha and sat to wait for our food. The wait was unexpectedly long for what I perceived as a pretty low maintenance order (25 mins) and that was for the first sandwich! The burger came out another 5 mins later. The food was good but underwhelming for the cost. We paid 43 bucks for those 4 items (including tip) and my sandwich didn’t even come with a side! I’ve heard great things about this place. The space is really cool. The lunch items looked impressive. Maybe they were just off their game today.

Old National Suite Club – Menu with Prices – 1 SE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Evansville

DOLLY PARTON!!! Ok, now that I’ve got that out of my system, The Ford Center. We come into town from Nashville to see Dolly on her new Pure and Simple Tour. Weird, I know, but she wasn’t performing in Nashville & Evansville was the closest. Luckily I’m from Owensboro & we got a couple people together to make a night out of it. We arrived about 7:25pm & the show was scheduled to start at 7:30pm. We’d parked down the street before we’d ate at Peep Hole Bar. Therefore I cannot speak about the parking at the center, however there’s a lot of street parking near this venue. We were waved into a special entrance that seemed like a bar. The woman said we could enter through there if we already had tickets. I glanced at the prices of the bar, $7-8 for a beer. No. After paying $2.74 for a bourbon & diet at Peep Hole, I decided against a drink at the Ford Center. We had floor seats, so we made our way to the center of the building. We found the arena easily & a woman pointed us in the right direction for our seats. The floor seating are the connected, folding chair kind, but they were padded, which was nice. I didn’t feel too crowded next to a stranger, but I did keep my arms folded a lot. During the show, they had people with beer, soda & water around for sales. Four bucks for a water or soda. They had to open the bottle & pour it into a cup. We asked why & the woman said it was at the tours request. I guess maybe they were worried that someone would throw a bottle at Dolly?!? That would’ve caused a riot no doubt.

Johnny O’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 8890 8th St, Rancho Cucamonga

Came here for the first time and was so excited because I am not normally available during the first few hours of the day. This us a breakfast brunch place so it is only open for a limited time. Parking is limited so plan on parking on the gravel on the side street. Also, the place is small and cozy. This place gets busy but unfortunately has no waiting area inside or outside. On this day it was over 100 degrees outside and we had 2 people ahead of us. We waited outside by the parked cars without any shade to he called in. We got called in and quickly looked over at others’ plates. All of the dishes looked great and had large portions. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Hubby was excited to try the chili cheese omelette but when we ordered we were I formed they were out of chili. Booo. Anyhoots we got the short stack pancakes, meat scramble and corned beef hash. All were flavorful and delicious. Their homemade salsas were also mmm mmm good.

Laundry on the Fax Menu with Prices 10941 E Colfax Ave, Aurora

Excellent. The main portion of the building is self-serve but the staff is super friendly & helpful if needed. Express service is available but I don’t know the price. Coin change machine and ATM available on site. Change machine takes bills $1-$20. There is also a slot vending machine for soap & dryer sheets on site. Limited parking behind the building, but plenty of street curbside parking if you don’t mind a short walk. Lots of basket carts & machines. I went on a Tuesday & it wasn’t very busy. The man told me they’re going to open a pizza shop next door. Will definitely come back.

Del’s Charcoal Burgers – Menu with Prices – 110 S McKinney St, Richardson

Came to this place on a late Saturday afternoon, read about it on Google for things to do in Dallas Fort Worth. It said that this place had been a burger staple for 60 years, so of course we had to give it a try. The restaurant itself isn’t that big, not to much parking either. But since it was later it wasn’t to busy. Don’t be fooled be the name- they serve much more than burgers such as hotdogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, and more. I just got a cheeseburger and let me tell you it is one of the best I’ve had. The burger itself was simple but so flavorful! You could taste the grill on the burger, the bun was really good too and tasted buttery. However, I really liked the lettuce and tomato. The lettuce was shredded and the tomatoes were thin, I liked this because they didn’t fall off the burger. At other burger places, perhaps In and Out, the lettuce is big and falls straight off your burger! This burger was sturdy and did not fall apart. For desert we tried the fried Twinkie. This reminded of the Texas State Fair, the Twinkie was soft, and melted in your mouth. We WILL be back again! Thanks for reading ?

Stephanie’s Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 10700 Jersey Blvd #100, Rancho Cucamonga

May 9th, 2019. I’ve been to stephanie’s a bit and its been a while since I’ve been here. I went after getting my blood work. When I’ve got inside the place, I was impressed of what they did to the place. They added a self serve soda machine that they didn’t have in the front of the place. They did have it behind the counter the last time i was there, but now they changed the soda machine (plus). The size was a bit smaller than me, but I had no problem. They didn’t have any ice from the machine, but the person who took my order put ice behind the counter and gave me ice so i could fill up my drink. Other than the soda machine, I had a great breakfast. With my drink that i have, i also ordered the french toast sticks. Both of those were $6. The french toast sticks were awesome here because they put sugar on the french toast sticks. I like the burger king ones, but they don’t put the sugar on the french toast sticks like what Stephanie’s would do. The flavor was so delicious that I could come back again here and order more of the french toast sticks.

Lina Haircut – Menu with Prices – 1060 Willow St Suite 8, San Jose

I went to Willow Glen to check out two barbers I’d found online. I parked in the strip mall behind Baskin Robbins in a spot reserved for one of the businesses. It must’ve been obvious I felt guilty because this nice lady came out and said, “It’s ok, you can park there. Just come to me to get a haircut sometime.” I couldn’t ignore the karma. Turns out the nice lady was Lina, owner of Lina Haircut. She said this was her second salon and it had been open just a few days. Partially out of guilt for using her parking space, I decided to have her cut my hair. And boy am I glad! She did a great job at a very reasonable price and I will be a regular client. In fact, I’m writing this review before heading over to get my hair cut. If you’re looking for a quality salon with great service and affordable prices in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood, Lina Haircut is the place. #goodkarma
