Unfriendly waitress. She doesn’t greet us when we walk in and she told us to pick any seat we like in her tiny voice. The restaurant is a bit dirty. The seat kinda have oil on it and all the bottle of sauce feels sticky. We ordered the egg rolls, bun thit nuong cha gio and mi kho. I’ve never seen bun thit nuong cha gio have more veggies than noodles. I feel like I just eat a bunch of veggies and I got sick of it. The meat was ok, lack of seasoning and I feel that the egg rolls have no meat in it besides carrots and noodles. The mi kho looks good when she brought it out but it tasted bland. Overall, I think the presentation of the dish looks good for pictures but the food and the restaurant need some work. I won’t come back again because it doesn’t make us feel welcome.

Kimlan Sandwiches – Menu with Prices – 1035 N Broadway, Wichita

I’ve been wanting to try this place. I’ve read many really good reviews! So, on my day off today, after waking up from a nap, I was hungry! I first thought about getting a burger from one of our local burger places. Then I remembered Kimlan! I looked them up to find their hours and had only 30 minutes to get there! I’m about 20 minutes away. So I flew out the door! Fortunately I made it on time! I was torn between the Banh Mi Thit Nuong: thinly sliced pork marinated in lemongrass-soy dressing, no mayo. Or the Banh Mi Xa Xiu: sliced Chinese bbq pork. Both come with picked carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, cucumber and mayo (on the Banh Mi Xa Xiu). They were out of the Banh Mi Thit Nuong so that settled my decision! It was really, really delicious!!! Absolutely loved it. I bought 2 so I’d have one for work lunch tomorrow. Glad I did. The bread is light, airy and crunchy. My one issue, which was the reason for just 4 stars, was that IMO, it could have used more meat. I thought it was kind of sparse. Although at just $3.50 for a very decently sized sandwich, it was alright. I ate it at home and added some chicken breast I had. I also ordered some Crispy Egg Rolls ($2.00 for 3) which I would refer to as Spring Rolls (the smaller, thin wrapped rolls), with the fish sauce dipping sauce. They were also good. Typical Spring Rolls. So, all in all, I was very pleased with my meal! I will definitely go back! I want to try the one that they were out of tonight. Also have to try their Bun Thit Nuong Cha Goo: grilled pork & egg roll vermicelli ($6.75). That is one of my favorites! Their prices are incredibly reasonable!

Wasabi Xpress Menu with Prices 2838 Washington Rd, Augusta

I had the banh cha gio thit nuong. Which is basically a rice noodle salad with vegetables, charbroiled pork chop, egg roll and fish sauce poured over it. I had this dish for over 40 years so I know it quite well. First I’ll say their cha gio are small, thin versions of what I’m used to having. So when my banh dish came with only 1 egg roll (and the cut up pork chop), I was surprised. It just didn’t seem like a lot. Their rice noodles are different than I am used to also. Theirs are softer and larger in diameter. Almost the size of Italian spaghetti. Rice noodles or vermicelli is typically thin threads. So I’m not going to order this fish again. I did have their goi cuon. Fortunately it remained tasty and freshly made like last time.

New Orleans Po Boy & French Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1030 S 13th St Unit 112, Harrisburg

This hole-in-the-wall joint is a hidden gem of Harrisburg. On Sundays it’s bustling with almost all Vietnamese customers which tells you something about its authenticity – but at the same time there’s never a lineup, as many people get take-out. There are counters of carry-out food available, such as dessert items (che, banh cam), banh cuon, fresh rolls, etc. You can also order made-to-order food. Banh khot (V2) – I’ll admit the taste is a bit off from the traditional recipe but the portion is decent and it has a home-made hearty feel to it. It’s worth a try since many Viet restaurants don’t offer this dish. Bun bo hue (D1) – Broth is quite light compared to other places I’ve tried, but the sauce on the side provides the dish with the customer-controlled kick it deserves. Very nice meat taste! Portion size isn’t bad considering the $6 price. Com ga xoi mo (D6) – this is a VERY RARE item that I was shocked to find here – even in big cities like DC it’s not usual. It’s a roti-style chicken served with yellow seasoned rice and fresh veggies. This is da bomb! They did change the dish over the past few months – originally there was a homemade mayonnaise spread on the side, and now the chicken is noticeably more bready and the entire portion became bigger. All very welcome changes. Pate chaud – available at the hot take-out item counter. These I would give an average score – the dough is just right but the meat just isn’t as juicy or flavorful as ones I’ve had elsewhere. Nonetheless, very much worth the price and worth a try as an appetizer if you’re there. Cafe sua da – yes, yes, yes. Their iced coffee is strong yet creamy and sweet with the condensed milk. I wish there wasn’t as much ice taking up most of the volume, but I’ll take quality over quantity. I came with others who tried the hu tieu noodles (D7) and bun cha gio thit nuong (D4) both of which were highly approved of. Overall this is a solid restaurant, not the best Vietnamese I’ve ever had, but has enough of an edge in the other dishes that makes it more exciting than the typical pho joint. If you come here just looking for pho, pho-get it – this place satisfies those who desire more than just basic.

Saigon Jade – Menu with Prices – 1316 S Longmore #101, Mesa

I was craving Viet food as power food before my graduation ? Luckily Saigon Jade opens at 10am, does NOT have a wait, and exceeded my expectations Parking: giant lot in a pretty quiet strip mall. It was hard to find at first because the 1800 flowers building covers its view from the street. It’s across from Target and the flowers building, standing on its own. Ambience: not much, if you’re looking for a cute trendy hipster date night restaurant, this is not the place for you. It’s simple, down to earth, mom-and-pop feels (literally I think the mom is the chef and the waiter is her son) FOOD: yumz, I was impressed with some of the AUTHENTIC options on menu like banh canh, hu tieu, BUN MAM??? Woah too legit to quit. They even have freshly chopped chili serve with our food… yumz and spicy… Hu tieu kho (phom phei noodles) with soup on the side 4.5/5: flavors were great, portion is solid. I was missing the more authentic meat like liver/ quail egg but over all they packed a lot of great meat in the bowl. Bun thit nuong cha gio (vermicelli noodles with eggrolls and grilled pork): my fiance devoured his food so quick I didn’t get a chance to try it… but presentation was great, very solid portion as well! Spring roll: presented in this cute bamboo basket, 5 points for presentation! Flavor was good, solid appetizer. Come and support this sweet mom-and-pop shop. Their food is definitely worth checking out ?

Pho Green Papaya – Menu with Prices – 13215 SE Mill Plain Blvd Ste C2, Vancouver

Daughter took me here because it’s been cold and wet all day. Really nice relaxed atmosphere. We were sitted right away and was given a menu. The waiter was friendly and already have us our water. So many to choose from but we knew were going to eat Pho. Took awhile for me to decide but I’m the end, my daughter and I we’re ordering the same. I can’t remember the number but it was flanked steak and we added meat balls. I always eat my Pho with a sandwich. The waiter recommended to try grilled bbq pork. So I did. For appetizers we ordered shrimp spring rolls. It comes with peanut dipping sauce. I was already excited anticipating our meal! Within minutes, spring rolls were served. My kid and I dived right in. So yummy and refreshing! Light in the guts too. I had room for more that is coming lol… I didn’t even count to 10 when my sandwich arrived! It was a pretty long sandwich like a sub. I had to cut it in half. It was toasted and warm. Now people, you must eat all your veggies that comes with the sandwich! It gives it that authentic flavor that is out of this world. Without the veggies, it’ll be just an ordinary sandwich. So you must EAT the veggies! Finally the Pho. I must say, the broth itself is soothing for the soul. Ahhhhhh! Yummmm!! So much meat in it and this is by the way is a regular size bowl. Their servings are plentiful. Not unless you haven’t eaten for a few days then I recommend you order regular.so much noodles and meat and the veggies again, you must eat all your veggies!! Overall, the service, the food and atmosphere will definitely make me come over and over again. Thank You Pho Green Papaya! I’m coming for more!

YC’s Mongolian Grill – Menu with Prices – 752 W Elliot Rd, Tempe

Woke up needed noodles. Used Yelp to look at all the places near I-10 for noddles since I was meeting my friend to car shop. Anyhoo. We scaled it down to 3 places but in the back of my mind…I knew I wanted Y.C. My friend prepaid for my meal. So as soon as I arrived, we dug in to making a Mongolian treasure. I love the dark meat chicken but also add some white meat. I stacked up with all the fresh veggies. They have definitely uped their selection since I last was there. I did get noodles…hmmm so good. I favor the rice noodles because they are so yummy. I try to leave space for all the sauce but this time, I add the dry seasoning to my meat beforehand and it made a difference. Sauce: YC, Sweet Sour, Garlic, Hot Oil, Orange sauce. At least 10 laddles. My meal was well worth every penny. My friend meal was undercooked. Now, I noticed that her food wasn’t on the grill as long but literally she had pink chicken at the end. It was only one huge piece but made her feel uneasy. But for the uncooked chicken this would of been a 5 star. Love this location. Always clean, always friendly. Pricepoint can’t be ignored. Totally forgot to grab my frozen yogurt…wonder if I can go back and grab that. Had lots of leftovers for me and hubby to enjoy all Sunday.

Phuong Nam Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4413 W Walnut St, Garland

This place was a pleasant surprise. It’s your good ol’ hole-in-the-wall family owned restaurant. I normally don’t write reviews for well known places b/c they are already established. I only write for relatively unknown places, where my experiences are either great or horrible. This place was great. Food – Just like my grandma’s cooking, which is without saying homemade and delicious. I got the cm tm (came with bì, thit nuong, nem, hot gà, etc.) However, the star of the show was the grilled pork. It was clearly grilled before serving and had a nice char on it. The array of meats on the dish was fun to eat. Broken rice was cooked properly. Veggies were crisp. +2 stars Service: We were greeted and offered drinks. The waiter filled our waters when needed, and gave us to-go boxes at the end. Casual convo. +1 star Cleanliness: From the outside, the place is in sort of an old plaza, but the inside is clean and bright. Saw the waiter cleaning down other tables as we were eating. I did not need to use the restroom, so I can’t attest. +1 star Value: The rice dish I got was about 9 bucks. Plus tip, you’ll spend about 10 bucks for lunch. I even had to take home left overs. My parents, who are traditional, loved the bun bo hue (and the price). +1 star This fairly new and unknown place earned 5 stars from me.

Bubble Shack – Menu with Prices – 3205 Concord Pike, Wilmington

Food 2/5 – The banh mi thit nuong was $5.75 which is steep for a single sandwich but I’m okay with paying it if the quality is there. It’s not. The meat was salty, however the tenderness was fine. The pickled carrots tasted off almost celery like. The weirdest part was the white cheese in it… Usually the common thing to add to give richness is pate which they subbed for white cottage like cheese it seems. The baguette was probably the best part of about the sandwich soft and with just the right amount of chewiness. Sadly, I only the half that didn’t have that cheese. Drink 1/5 – I don’t know about the other drinks but the almond milk tea completely missed the mark for me. I saw that they made it with powder. Fine. However, it’s only fine if it tastes decent but it didn’t. It had this very artificial almond taste with more than enough syrup sugar. I had to throw it away. Water would’ve been a safer choice. Maybe I’m overcrtical bc I’m Vietnamese and have had my fair share of banhs mi’s and milk tea.. however for the price point it needs to be said.

Little Korea – Menu with Prices – 3354 S National Ave, Springfield

I’ve only been here once. The restaurant is relatively small, max occupancy of 49. From what I could tell, it seems like the biggest table accommodates up to 8 people. So if you’ve got 9 or more it doesn’t seem like you could all sit together. They’ve got entres here if you don’t want hotpot- but why come to a hot pot restaurant if you’re not gonna try hot pot??? But it’s still nice for people who come in a group and simply don’t feel like it. It seems to add a nice variety. They don’t have dessert yet but it’ll be coming soon. If you’ve never had hot pot they do a good job putting directions down. There’s a how to on the wall and in the menu. Pretty simple- just cook your veggies and meat in the broth and eat it with rice and their sauce- or by itself! The staff didn’t really ask us if we had any questions- or show us anything- but it’s probably because we’re asian. If you do hot pot you pick a broth, pick your protein, and pick two sauces. You get a veggie basket with Napa cabbage, carrots, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, some clear noodles, and a bowl of rice. (Although typically you eat noodles with hot pot, but I guess that’s the style here). There are also a lot of add ons. If you want noodles instead of rice you’ll still have to get charged extra since noodles are extra. Everyone gets their own individual hot pot. Broth had good flavor, beef was good. Overall had a good first experience here. I’ll admit though, I wasn’t too crazy about it (this place just didn’t wow me). However, Would still encourage others to give this place a shot, they might really like it.

Noodlelicious – Menu with Prices – 3212 N Jupiter Rd #110, Garland

It appears to be an unassuming pho restaurant in the Saigon Asian shopping center. There is access from outside the mall as well as from inside. I like this restaurant because of the fresh noodles (made in house) and flavorful broth. I’ve been here a few times and tried a few things, and I can say that you need to stick to ordering the pho here. My daughter had the chicken pho and said it was super delicious-lots of chicken and noodles along with an excellent broth. My son ordered a pho dac biet and really enjoyed it-lots of meat and noodles. They come in 3 sizes. If you have a regular appetite, the small is really all you need. That’s what I order. The large is if you are super hungry-it’s a giant bowl. Pros: clear flavorful broth that is not too oily, fast service Cons: anything that’s not pho. Inconsistent in quality of dishes-a couple times the spring rolls had hard noodles in it. Also, not a fan of the preboiled bean sprouts. Tip: don’t come late because they do run out of fresh noodles. We came within an hour of closing one time, and they were out.

Lien Hue Food To Go – Menu with Prices – 14291 Euclid St, Garden Grove

A non-Vietnamese friend accompanied me here to order food for a party. As I ordered, he asked how a non-Vietnamese person would order when the entire menu is in Vietnamese. Uh… They wouldn’t??? With that said, this place is really geared towards Vietnamese ppl. I doubt the workers speak much English. The service is mediocre. Theres only a couple of small tables inside so I recommend to go-ing your food. As Ally Wong says, “you need to leave [a Vietnamese establishment] deaf and emotionally abused.” Although this is true, the food here is really good! I ordered the mi xao thap cam for a small party, which are stir fry egg noodles with meat and shrimp. $25 for a small tray. Mi xao mem has only veggies so inquire before ordering. Guests at the party loved the noodles. Just the right about of saltiness and noodles to meat to veggies ratio. Prices are reasonable. I’d recommend this place for your catering needs. But definitely bring a Vietnamese friend.

Pho Vietnam – Menu with Prices – 8602 W 133rd St, Overland Park

Living in Lawrence I don’t get a lot of options to have a good bowl of pho. This is one thing I miss about Wichita. We were excited to try Pho Vietnam after a day of running around and my son is a big Pho fan, it’s his first choice if he’s allowed to pick dinner. When you first walk in the restaurant is clean and inviting. They sat us right away because we came at slow time and quickly served water without even having to ask. We opted to get the crab Rangoon and spring rolls for an appetizer. Those were both really good ! The crab Rangoon filling was flavorful, had a good amount of meat, and was crispy. The spring rolls had flavor which was good because there are times I’ve had spring rolls and they jus taste like rice paper. The peanut sauce for dipping was delicious as well ! If I could have just got the spring rolls I would have been happy with my whole meal ! I opted for the P1 which is a more simple bowl of pho with the steak and my son got the same with no meat. The broth was full of flavor but the portion was smaller than I anticipated it to be. All the veggies I received on the side were fresh. The only down fall were the noodles felt like they had been cooked before put into the broth so after a couple minutes good too mushy for my liking. All in all I was happy with my order ! We also had the pork chop which was a little overdone and had a marinade that was almost candy sweet like which after a few bites is a bit off putting. My husband got the charbroiled pork fried rice and it was ok but it wasn’t like WOW this is so good I’ll get it again. Overall I’m glad I finally got a decent bowl of pho and I’ll probably just stick to ordering only noodle soups here.
