The restaurant is bright and clean and their tasty breakfast is a good value. The tacos were really good and weren’t greasy at all. My egg & cheese taco was packed full and the scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly – fully done yet light and fluffy. E. is a stickler for chorizo and said the chorizo in his taco was crispy and delicious. Their flour tortillas were the star of the show. They were perfectly thin, not greasy at all and stayed soft and fresh throughout our meal. On this trip they also served a basket of crispy, cinnamony, sugared banuelos with our meal. What a treat! Service has been just fine too. The only drawback I’ve seen is that I don’t care for the bottled orange juice they serve, but their iced tea was a fine substitute. We may have just found a new favorite Brownsville breakfast spot! orange juice was Tropicana.

Paleterias Tropicana At The Med – Menu with Prices – 2160 W 39th Ave, Kansas City

Wow. Where to begin? I am a student at the Med Center and I used to go to Tropicana all the time to get food before and after class. The food is extremely hit or miss and its really frustrating, so I stopped going as frequently. I usually get a breakfast burrito with chorizo and ask for it to be grilled. Half the time, the employee hands me a non-grilled breakfast burrito that still has frozen shredded cheese inside of it. The breakfast burritos are supposed to come with scrambled egg inside of them, and twice I have gotten hard-boiled egg just so they could get rid of their extra. The customer service is also very poor. My most recent visit, the employee was bringing me my burrito and dropped it on the floor. Normally, the employee would offer to make a new one. Instead, she handed it to me and said that it was fine because it was wrapped in foil. This situation was laughable to me because knowing the specific employee, it was expected of her to do. A different time with the same employee, she handed me a sample of ice cream (That I did not ask for). The next time I came in to Tropicana, she accused me of not paying for the ice cream that I had ordered. I have had more bad than good experiences at Tropicana and I am done spending my money there.

Esmeralda’s Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 8750 S Presa St, San Antonio

I’ve only had the breakfast tacos so far. If lunch is anything like breakfast, I’m coming back! Tortillas are truly homemade and made well; pillow soft! Salsas are picosas AND flavorful! Barbacoa was just right greasy, not dripping in pools. Chorizo and egg taco was fat and actually had chorizo (not just cooked in chorizo grease). Papas rancheras were not above average but I’ve had so many sub par, maybe they are above average? I will update when I return for lunch. Can’t wait!

Popover King – Menu with Prices – 74 Canal St, Boston

Popover King is located on Canal Street between Haymarket station, and North Station (but closer to Haymarket’s side). It is a spacious cafe where you place your order at the counter and they bring out the food to you on actual plates with metal utensils wrapped in napkins. Make your choice among the little round tables scattered about and set with two or four chairs apiece. Since my visit, my pick has gone off the menu. So, RIP Classic Maple Bacon Rum Tum Ditty $10.00 (tomatoes, onions, eggs and melted cheese with maple bacon). Such a rich, gooey, satisfying meal. I ate 2/3 and my leftover in the box still weighed 10.7 oz., though admittedly, cheese tends to be quite dense. The bacon was thick cut and crisp. The skillet popover light, crisp, and eggy. I was content. Service though quite nice was limited as there was only one fellow outside serving the patrons, and 3 individuals working away in the kitchen. The lady would pop out every so often with a bag in hand for the take-out orderer, or plates held in both hands for their dine in patrons. It took me 10 minutes to get a box for my leftovers. So my tip to you is, if you think you might be having leftovers, consider asking for a box ahead of time when things are a little quiet. You never know when a bunch of folks might suddenly drop in and rightly commandeer the attention of the staffer at the counter. What’s a Rum Tum Ditty? Well, a search online turned up something with cream of tomato soup and cheese… nothing like what Popover King made for me. My impression (later confirmed by words written on their board) is that a Rum Tum Ditty at Popover King is basically popover batter baked up in a hot cast iron skillet (I peeked through the back window into their kitchen). Until the first day of summer 2019, their hours are 7am – 3pm. They offer breakfast specials from 7am – 11am with the discount written straight out on the sheet of $4, for a specified breakfast item, mini popover (original or sugar cinnamon), and fresh fruit bowl ($3.99) Drink options add on 12 oz for $2: Organic drip coffee, tea fauchon paris, orange juice, apple cider, lavender lemonade They also have lunch specials from 11am – 3pm which include a dessert (The Royal or Sir John with a mini popover, or a fresh fruit bowl) and a drink (San Pellegrino (orange, lemon, blood orange, sparkling), orange juice (12 oz), apple cider (12 oz), lavender lemonade, Tropicana apple juice, Tropicana orange juice, Poland Spring water) with savings of around $4 (basically a mostly free mini dessert). 3.5 stars. *** I ordered one of their dessert popovers on my second visit: Sticky Monkey $8.50 (banana-maple filling topped with lemon cream). The popover was still warm and crispy, and was filled with sweet cooked diced banana, and topped with whipped cream. Not sure if that was the lemon cream mentioned in the description, as nothing in the dish was particularly lemony. Still it was a tasty and rather filling treat. I had hoped to ask the lady about the lemon cream when she brought out the water I had asked for when she brought me my popover, but I guess things got busy in the kitchen. I asked the gent out front for my water and he brought it over promptly. *** Since my impression is that Popover King’s Rum Tum Ditty’s tend to be more filling than the popover based savories, I elected to give their Chicken Broccoli Rum Tum Ditty $11.50 (garlic cream and cheese) a try. Visually, it resembled an overflowing personal pan of white pizza, but with the crust a satisfying contrast of textures of tender beneath and within the crisp outer edges. The flavor was terrific and the broccoli florets perfectly firm tender. Unfortunately, the chunks of chicken weren’t consistently tender delicious, as I discovered a number of dry pieces of meat lurking within the pool of cheesy sauce. Still, a nice warming meal on a cooler spring day, and just a bit over half sufficed for my lunch. The basic cheese popover $5 arrived split open with MELTED cheese within. A decent l

Rosalita’s Backyard Tacos – Menu with Prices – 3319 N Rampart St, New Orleans

Tacos are my favorite and I have had quite a few in new orleans area. Rosalita’s is my favorite taco spot. Most importantly, the tacos are the best in the city. Rosalita’s tacos are not overly complicated like some other taco spots, yet they are still flavorful. The flavor of the pork in particular is spectacular (and it happens to be the least expensive one so load up!). All served on traditional corn tortilla that is perfectly cooked – not hard or mushy. Topped with a light cabbage slaw. Not drowning in cheese or sauces. They offer the perfect selection of everything you’d want at a taco spot (amazing from a small operation). All the meats (chicken, pork, brisket, and even chorizo), fish, and veggie. The price is low every day not just during happy hour. $2 for pork, $3 for fish, brisket or chorizo. You can get it in taco, burrito, quesadilla or nacho, and even though they are a 2 person shop operating out of a backyard alley, they even fry up some taquitos if you want them. They don’t slack on the drinks either. You can get 2 kinds of homemade lemonade, or fruit juice, or a mexican soda. Love it. The only other thing that would make it even better would be some house made horchata. Lets talk about the location. For some, its an unappealing alley in a difficult to find spot. You wouldn’t find it unless you are looking for it. But for me, that IS the appeal. Its reminiscent of trips to mexico where the tacos are best from a street vendor. Sadly, I don’t live in this area so I don’t get here as often as I’d like and Rosalitas has short hours. I would highly recommend you make your way to the bywater and experience Rosalitas before some New Orleans law shuts them down. A few tips, its cash only, there is little to no seating. Bring cash, and a chair, stay a while, make a friend or two.

El Centenario Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 10301 Leopard St, Corpus Christi

Sunday morning the boyfriend and I are jones-ing for some breakfast tacos. Our usual place had a drive-through line out onto the street, so we went further down Leopard and found this hole-in-the-wall gem. Quite possibly the best breakfast tacos in this part of town I’ve tried yet. We went through the drive-through, and the tacos were still piping HOT when we got home. Homemade tortillas and the chorizo and egg were cooked to perfection. No vulcanized mishmash of dry rubbery egg and barely-there chorizo like I’ve gotten elsewhere in the past. I was also surprised to see my bean and cheese taco came with an abundance of REAL Monterey jack cheese, not that fake, processed velveeta that some places deign to slather on your meal to save a buck. I admit, I’m guilty of passing up places that look a little shabby from the road. This place might not look like much on the outside, but much like the taco itself, the goodness lies within. Will definitely be back to sample what else they have in store.

Cantina Taco – Menu with Prices – 117 S Main St, Rockford

We’ve been fans of their tacos getting them at the market as well as through Stewart Square Eatery for years and now we’re so excited that Cantina Taco finally has its very own restaurant! I have not had the chance to eat inside yet but I did order delivery to my work one afternoon and was not disappointed. Here’s what I ordered: 1. The fish tacos – I’m a seafood fan and I tend to lean towards fish tacos whenever I stop at a taco place but I think these may be my new go-to. I was extremely impressed with how well seasoned and perfectly crisp their fish batter was without overpowering the fish itself and their slightly sweet slaw offered a great balance in the taco. 2. Chorizo brunch taco – chorizo, egg, potato – nicely cooked and delicious! 3. Chips and queso – Whatever is in their queso is creamy and addicting. Be warned, you’re probably not going to want to share (though there’s more than enough to.) Overall, I was happy as always with their tacos and would definitely recommend it ?

Paco y Lilia Tacos & Antojitos – Menu with Prices – 14158 Highway 377 S, Fort Worth

They are the beeest, the woman there is always so nice and kind and has such a happy glow. I come here at LEAST once a week and I love their chorizo breakfast burrito and their tortas the best (kinda going through everything on their menu slowly hehe), also, it’s rare to find good taco trucks by me so not only is it great to live by a taco truck but an amazing one.

Taqueria Sinaloense – Menu with Prices – 4418 Edward Rd #4498, West Palm Beach

My review is for the taco truck they have outside some evenings. I haven’t been inside the building. I ordered an asada burrito , chorizo, carnitas and Barbacoa tacos. It was after 11 on a Friday . Service was friendly and cashier spoke perfect English. I started with the burrito. It was medium sized; steak was flavorful and tender, came with some rice, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, with their orange sauce, radishes and limes in the side. The tacos came with their green sauce on side and more radishes and limes, plus a big cooked jalapeño. They were heavy on the cilantro and all three were outstanding. Carnitas was excellent, Barbacoa was delicious , and I LOVED the chorizo. Their chorizo is the spicy sort and the best I’ve had in the area among the other taquerias I’ve tried. Liked that they included the cooked jalapeño as well. Can’t really comment in the service, but this is some pretty good Mexican street food.

El Taco Shop – Menu with Prices – 3271 Malcolm Dr, Montgomery

Came here one weekday for dinner. They weren’t too busy and the service was pretty swift. They operate in a fast casual system. I remember seeing beer as an option but do not believe they have margaritas (insert disappointed sigh). We got an insane amount of food for a very reasonable price. We definitely didn’t need the guac, but we got it anyways. The guac was good, but wasn’t anything too special in my opinion. My friend had steak nachos and was disappointed because they were just very basic with steak and queso. I had the Burrito Gandalla with chorizo. I love chorizo and understand the greasiness of it but it was excessively greasy in my opinion. I felt like I was close to having a heart attack. The chorizo overpowered everything else in the burrito as well so it was very one note. Overall not a bad meal but could use much improvement.

Elys Breakfast Restaurant & Burgers – Menu with Prices – 2855 N Green Valley Pkwy, Henderson

I’ve been to the original Ely’s on Tropicana Avenue multiple times because of their fast service and cheap but delicious breakfasts, so when they opened a new location on Green Valley, I was excited to try it out. My husband and I purchased a Groupon ($10 for $18 worth of food) and went for breakfast. We were surprised to see that the dining area was relatively empty but happy to secure a booth in a quiet spot. Our waitress was extremely attentive and immediately brought us menus and waters. My husband ordered pancakes, I ordered French toast, and we got eggs, bacon, and breakfast potatoes to share. ALL of this food somehow still only came to $16 with tax! The portion sizes are extremely generous and the food was fresh and delicious. Our only complaint was that there was a loud banging sound coming from the kitchen during our meal, but fortunately it only went on for a few minutes. We would definitely return based on service, taste, and overall value.

Green Lechuga – Taco food truck – Menu with Prices – 23033 Gosling Rd, Spring

Seriously do you want REAL AUTHENTIC Mexican tacos, quesadillas, tortas or burritos??? You need to visit this food truck. It’s on Sawdust before that real sharp turn in the road a little ways past Grogans Point. The map is almost spot on now. I’ve tried all the other three local taco joints: 1. Cabo Baja and Mexican Grill and nearly puked on their fake can bright orange cheese (want a dose of chemicals?). Plus no thanks to mozzarella cheese on tacos!!!). 2. No to Taco USA’s flaccid microwaved burritos and very Americanized tacos with mush meat. 3. Hello Taco – a wanna be to please the American palate and Hispanic IMO and can’t please me. Sorry get an identity!!! Anyway back to Green Lechuga who’s young men know the “real” secret ingredients to Mexican tacos etc. Their cooking of the al pastor, chicken and beef fajita, chorizo w/potato and chipolte beef are spot on in flavor! Ask them for a sample. They offer the freshest flour or corn tortillas. Someone is obviously making these for them because they are too fresh! Btw if you order your tacos on the flour tortillas you get more food because they are larger. So for a $2 taco you get your choice of taco meat, beans (guy next to me was loaded with them), cheese, avocado, sour cream, onions, cilantro, tomatoes and lettuce. They also have an authentic tasting hot green sauce (Yum). So pretty much order want you want. The guys freshly cook up your meat and add your sides. Not sure if there is an up charge for guacamole. Really good customer service. They have a huge white tent with bright green picnic tables to sit at. Nice place to relax out of the hot sun. I noticed a couple fresh juices and one with chia seeds. Not sure if they rotate them daily. This is the closest Authentic Mexican taco, (etc) place that I have found in The Woodlands area next to La Palma on Ave G in Conroe. Now I just need to talk them into cooking those fried onions like La Palma. They are open for breakfast also and offer egg, bacon, ham and sausage also. What a way to start the day with “real food” that tastes so incredibly good! I love their egg, chorizo, potato with a lil sour cream. Actually I love everything! Yes picky me :))! I noticed they have a tiny sno cone building next to them. I haven’t tried it. Not sure of the hours. Thank you guys for opening near my hood! Just please keep up the quality and you’ll be rewarded :))!!! Yelp Review #314

Renee’s Crêpes & Cakes – Menu with Prices – 2020 Augustine Ave, Fredericksburg

What a wonderful crepe experience! We arrived for breakfast to find a quaint, clean, well appointed little nook of a place that made us feel immediately comfortable and optimistic about our choice. We weren’t disappointed. Two of us devoured The Chefs Crepe, The Breakfast Crepe, and the Nutella Berry Crepe. There are so many to choose from but these hit the spot. The coffee was foamy, smooth, and tasty. The orange juice was not from concentrate and perfect with the savory breakfast crepes. The owners were the staff and were friendly and proud of their craft and establishment. Delightful people! We would happily return for more the next time we are in town.
