I’d driven past this place so many times and wondered if it was any good. It wasn’t. It was absolutely TERRIFIC!! I love the ambience – it’s a quiet, dim-light and relaxed atmosphere. The service is excellent – everyone is prompt, helpful and friendly. The food is what blew me away though!! Appetizers: We had three. First, the meatball. WOW – one of the best I’ve had. It has mozzarella inside as well as peppers. Second, mussels. They make them in a pesto sauce and it is just amazing. The mussels were actually a decent size and tasted fresh. Third, we had the bruschetta. The bread is to die for as well as the tomatoes! I could not stop eating them. Main dish: I had the Rigatoni alla Vodka – I could bathe in that. I could have eaten an entire second bowl if they’d brought me one. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so delicious! My fiancé had the lamb and of course I had to try it – I’m not a big meat eater BUT I will say I would totally order the lamb in the future. It was so tasty!! All around wonderful dining experience and would love to return soon!!

La Vecchia Cucina – Menu with Prices – 2654 Main St, Santa Monica

We had to pick up my daughter’s engagement ring in Santa Monica, CA. It was being downsized bc she is tiny like her father. We considered where to eat lunch. I wanted to eat at Tandoori but even though it was only 3.4 miles away she said it would take 1/2 hour to get there in LA traffic:-( So I said okay:-( I really wanted some ethnic food with a lot of loud flavors. I looked in the window and saw an African American couple eating. I kept looking at them then I thought well black people like good food, as I am also black. Perhaps we could give this Italian place a try. I looked at the lunch menu and found PRIX FIXE SPECIAL – $18 First Course: Choose any Appetizer, Soup or Salad Second Course: Choose any Pizza, Panini or Pasta I wanted CUNEO – $12 A wedge of iceberg lettuce topped with buttermilk blue cheese dressing, pear tomatoes, avocado, hard boiled egg, apple wood smoked bacon and crumbled Maytag blue cheese and MARGHERITA pizza – $13 Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and basil After eating the delicious brick oven baked bread with a dish of garlic and basil in olive oil our lunch came. The visual presentation of my wedge salad was appealing. I should’ve had them hold the avocados bc I don’t like the messiness but they are full of potassium which I desperately need! The order came with a mound of sliced avocado on to and I raked them off. The salad was DELICIOUS!!! I wished I’d have ordered a full plate of this salad. The bacon and buttermilk blue cheese dressing was ON POINT! The next part of my lunch came the Margarita pizza and it was ok BUT the basil did not top that of Olivella’s in Dallas, TX. I wanted to enjoy a cocktail but the did not have a cocktail menu like Ruth Chris Steakhouse does in Fort Worth, TX. They are all chalked on a small board so I skipped the cocktail. I really enjoyed my lunch here with my daughter and mother. Mom and my daughter shared and eggplant dish. MELANZANE ALLA CAPRINA – $11 Rolled slices of eggplant stuffed with goat cheese and herbs, topped with our marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil and oven baked I tasted the remnants of what she left in the crock and the tomatoes were delicious! She also ordered the rigatoni to go with her fixed price lunch and I was glad that I didn’t order that. Spaghetti/rigatoni is a hard dish to satisfy others. The choice and amount of meat can really throw this dish off. I like MID’s spaghetti sauce so I wasn’t going anywhere near the rigatoni dish. She must not have been too enthused about it either bc she brought it home. RIGATONI BOLOGNESE – $17 Rigatoni tossed with our signature meat sauce I’ve been spoiled with daily pasta lunches at Crispino’s in upper Michigan and Pepe’s in New Haven, CT so I was not about to be disappointed by this pasta!

Serafina Back Bay – Menu with Prices – 237 Newbury St, Boston

I actually once composed an instrumental piece named “Sarafina” for my baby niece many years ago. Always brought a smile to my face whenever I played it back. Glad to add yet another “Serafina” to my happy place. Our server Antonio was as pleasant as a modern-day young Santa Clause. Cheerful, and with absolutely conviction on the items he loved on the menu. I love a server with conviction! First thing he recommended for our salad choice was the Arugula Parmigiano. I rarely eat this because for such a simple dish, may places get it wrong. It was so good, we ordered another after we finished the first one. Loved it! 5/5! Second on the list was the fried calamari. Again, a dish so simple I remain dumbfounded that so many get it wrong. You want it done right? Come here! Perfection, perfection, perfection! The third must-have was the Rigatoni alla Bolognese. Omg good! Again….. so good we ordered a second one after we polished off the first one! It reminded me so much of my mother’s recipe I was almost brought me to tears. These 3 dishes alone are worth many more future visits. We did order a couple pizza dishes, the Margherita and Alla Norcina (mushroom and sausage). Ours were slightly over-cooked on the dough, and while good, probably need to be tasted again when they get the dough right. Was it was, I’d give it a 4/5. Definitely a top recommend place for the Back Bay!

Angelina’s Kitchen Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar – Menu with Prices – 2170 Eagle Creek Ln, St Paul

Food: My boyfriend and I were high key BLOWN AWAY by this restaurant. We’d never been here before and stumbled in last night in the mood for Italian. We started with the Veggie Dip and a Caesar salad. The veggie dip was very tasty and it’s exactly what it sounds like: vegetables in a creamy base. It’s not all mashed up into a creamy dip like a typical Spinach Artichoke Dip, rather chunks of veggies that have been marinated in a cheesy soup. So if you’re looking for a typical “dip”, this isn’t it. It’s more like veggie bruschetta. For the entree, we split the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Penne Alla Vodka with Chicken. Both were very subtle in their taste in typical Sicilian fashion, but both were also incredible. The Spaghetti Bolognese was authentic and hearty and the Penne Alla Vodka was creamy and light (a combination that normally doesn’t come together). My boyfriend said the food felt like he was back in Italy! Venue: I never would’ve expected this little restaurant in Woodbury to be as delicious as it was. There was a small patio, indoor restaurant seating and a little dessert counter. They also had live music inside which was a nice treat. I am so impressed by this place and I will definitely be back to try more!

Frali Gourmet – Menu with Prices – 217 W Liberty St, Savannah

Wow! Seriously 5 stars all around, service food and price are on point here. This was probably one of my favorite lunches in forever, I felt like I was transported back to Italy. I came here with a girlfriend and our kiddos to try out lunch and left so impressed and off course wanting more even though I was stuffed. This is another family owned business and they really put their love in each customers dish. We started with the antipasto plate for two which came with prosciutto, Italian ham, a dried salami, 3 different cheeses, some pickled veggies and bread. This was a great starter, they also brought out some baguette with a toasted pepper sauce which was amazing. For lunch I ordered the build your own pasta with spinach and ricotta ravioli in a vodka sauce with a side of meatballs for my son and I to share. This was the highlight of my day, the meatballs were so moist and I’m typically not a meatball person, the ravioli tasted so fresh and once we finished I was so tempted to lick my plate clean the vodka sauce was out of this world. My friend ordered their Pappardelle alla Bolognese and that too was amazing. The food here taste so authentic and them making everything in house or imported from Italy really comes through with the meals. Our server who I also believe was the owner continuously checked on us to make sure everything was good. The only bummer was their gelato machine was down which was ok because they still had a pretty big dessert menu and we finished our meals with sorbet imported from Italy .

Spice N Rice – Menu with Prices – 6537 W 119th St, Overland Park

I love Indian food and have eaten at many great Indian restaurants, representing all regions, from fancy places to street food. Visiting family in the KC area, we ate at “Spice N Rice.” Both of us had eaten there before and it’s been decent but not special. So we tried it again as it’s nearby. It was a disaster mostly. I honestly don’t know how this is getting great reviews here on yelp. It’s been a 3 star at best in the past and now it was truly awful. I ordered Aloo Gobi and instead of this I got a dish of stewed tomatoes with some cauliflower and potatoes floating in it. The cauliflower and potatoes were the only correct ingredients in this dish. When first served, I asked the waitress if she brought the wrong dish as it was not supposed to be a broth of stewed tomatoes. She said that yes, this is how aloo gobi is made, “with lots of tomato sauce.” When we questioned her again later, she got the menu out and brought it to our table, and read the description of it out loud, which of course was completely different from what was prepared for me. She then looked confused and said nothing, shrugging. My sister ordered chicken makhani (butter chicken), which she had enjoyed here in the past, but this time she said she wanted the butter chicken sauce without the pieces of chicken. She was told it would cost $3 more without the chicken, as “the sauce is very expensive.” My sister agreed as she just wanted the sauce on rice. Unusual, but she’s requested this at many places and it’s always been great. When her dish was served, it was a bowl of puréed sauce the color of a bright red vindaloo sauce. It tasted like Campbell’s cream of tomato soup only with sugar added. Again, the waitress said this is how it’s made… The rice and naan were fine, the vegetable samosas were fine, but the entrees were not what we ordered and also not really representative of Indian food in any capacity. Knowing they served us both the wrong food, and it was bad, they brought the bill with no apologies. I left a 20% tip and regretted it. Can’t help myself as I know they make so little, but I do want to warn people this is not a good Indian restaurant. It’s also surprising that the wait staff is not knowledgeable about the menu or this type of cuisine.

Palace Italian Restaurant North – Menu with Prices – 6120 US Hwy 98 N, Lakeland

On different errands, we passed this place 3 separate times – and on the last one, we decided we had to stop for dinner. I am SO glad we did. This place is precious. It’s huge and clean, with Italian murals on all the walls. Italian music plays softly. There’s an open kitchen to the right side, and far to the left, doors to an outside patio. We were greeted promptly and sat with menus. After ordering, we were brought a small bread basket with a dipping sauce. The bread was soft, flat, similar to pita, and warmed. The dipping sauce was fabulous. A layer of fruity olive oil over something red with a sweet, yet piquant taste. (I’m thinking possibly roasted sweet pepper? I should have asked.) It was addictive. We both ordered pasta dishes – entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. We both chose soup. I had the pasta fagioli, and my husband had the chicken tortellini. Mine was good, but his was delicious – from the broth, to the chicken, to the very tender tortellini. Highly recommend. Our dinners came out soon after. He ordered the Spaghetti with Sausage. TONS of thinly sliced, melt in your mouth slightly-spicy sausage covered a mound of al dente spaghetti. So delicious. He loved it. It was a lot of food, and he ended up taking a bit of it home. I had the Ravioli Alla Vodka. It was the most decadently delicious, savory thing I have eaten in a long time. It was the BEST vodka sauce I have ever had. The ravioli (8 or 9 large) were tender and stuffed with cheeses that paired perfectly with the sauce. It was so wonderful that I used bread to scrape the plate to make sure that I got all of that sauce that I possible could. If they had bottled that sauce, I would have bought it. For dessert, we split a slice of Limoncello Marscapone cake. It was nice, very delicate sponge cake and good mousse-like frosting. Not very lemony though. (Sadly, after that to-die-for vodka sauce, I cannot imagine anything topping it.) All of the workers here were friendly and polite. The prices here were pretty good, considering the quality of the food. The Palace Italian is a bit out of our way, but we do want to come back here and try more food!

Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 301 Brookstown Ave, Winston-Salem

I don’t live in Winston anymore, but just had to return to this spot even if I could only order it as take out (not because they didn’t have seating, but I didn’t have time to dine in). I thought I’d update my review to reflect my takeout experience. I ordered the gnocchi sorrento, which is gnocchi in meat sauce topped with mozzarella cheese. It came with a side salad (I got house with vinaigrette) and bread. I was a little bummed I didn’t get any of the delicious olive oil dip for the bread. I also ordered bruschetta, which they neatly packaged all the bruschetta topping in separate containers so that I didn’t go home to soggy bruschetta bread. The gnocchi was so delicious, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Their salad and house dressing is always amazing. I can’t get over all the great ingredients in the salad, such as olives and radish. Bruschetta was heavenly and perfectly seasoned as well… it came with a lot of delicious Parmesan to top it with! I just love this charming restaurant so much. Apparently they will be closing soon for renovations, and I’m confident things will only go up from there for Di Lisio’s. Try to get your fix in before they close!

Alla’s Armenian Restaurant and Deli – Menu with Prices – 3051 E Ashlan Ave, Fresno

We just had a very nice dinner at Alla’s. The food is a little different from what we use to, but all was very tasty. They have a pomegranate salad dressing that was different and very nice and light. The yalanchi and hummus were very tasty. I had the beef and lamb shish, the lamb had a nice marinade with nice favor, also nice tasting bulgar and pilaf. My husband had the cabbage sharma which he said he would definitely order again. The service was very nice and prompt, very nice clean atmosphere. Alla’s is located in the small shopping center at the northwest corner of Ashland an First, it faces Ashland. If your not careful you could miss it. Worth the effort to find – recommend giving it a try.

DCG – District Chicken & Gyro – Menu with Prices – 3147 Dumbarton St NW, Washington

Was super curious how a spot could have a perfect score with so many reviews, so I went to check it out. Thanking my Yelp Army for putting me on to this one. It’s good. Very basic menu. No frills. Meat – lamb or chicken. Bread – pita. Salad. That’s it. Oh, and soda pop/water. About 6 menu items and two of them…the soup and fries…the owner, Tariq, said “sucked” (lol) so he stopped selling them. More about Tariq later. Given the word “gyro” is in the DBA name, you’d think that’s what you’re getting, and you are – sorta. It’s really a riff on a gyro. An Afghan gyro, if you will. Afghanistan is where Tariq is from so it’s his interpretation. That white sauce you see isn’t tzatziki sauce, for example, although it looks like it. It’s mayo based. Not yogurt. Everything else is relatively familiar enough to legitimately get away with calling it a gyro – including the pita bread. I tried both… lamb only….and the lamb + chicken. I ordered the combo gyro to go and ate the lamb- only at one of the tables outside. When Tariq showed up I was still outside eating and struck up a conversation with him. His a very funny and engaging guy. Even let me sample another dish, which was chicken/lamb over rice with a salad sandwiches in the same pan. I asked for some HOT in it – which it was. Another winner dish. The rice is really good and a great base upon which to add the protein and build from. The food is a bit more expensive than the simplicity suggests, but then again, that’s Georgetown for ya. Good food if you’re drunk, high, or otherwise looking for some good stomach-filling goodness. I’ll be back.

Buffalo’s Best Cucina – Menu with Prices – 65 Vandalia St, Buffalo

It pains me to write this honestly…. Last night we stopped at the Barrel Factory and decided to order food from BBC ( our first time doing so) Now we have gone to Buffalo’s Best in Orchard Park and we absolutely love it… The Pizza log is to die for. Anyways we ordered the Barrel Platter and the Beer Mussels and we could not wait to try them both… and waited we did… because it took quite a long time to be served, which we don’t have a problem with, because we were out for a nice relaxing time, but when you wait for over an hour and your food is cold… not warm – cold, there’s a problem. The platter came out first and the pulled pork was cold and had on the dry side. The one thing we did enjoy was the Brussels Sprout salad, that was yummy… the potato salad – bland, the mac and cheese tasted like it was something reheated and the stuffed banana peppers.. well the stuffing was completely out of the pepper. On to the mussels… Now when someone orders mussels, you know the part you cannot wait to dig into is the sauce… When the bowl arrived that is the first thing I did, and instantly regretted it – it was just like drinking lake water, no flavor, no herbs, nothing.. I didn’t even eat the mussels, by fiancé did and we had a few in the bowl that weren’t open( that’s a no no) I’m hoping this was just an off day, and I am willing to give them another shot, just not anytime soon!

Greek Bistro – Menu with Prices – 565 Marks St #160, Henderson

Ok folks let’s talk Greek food. I Love greek food and I have been eyeing this place for a long time but haven’t gone because the outside doesn’t look like much. Thank God I took a chance to go into this establishment! It’s like relaxed 5 star dining. The inside is WAAAAAAAAY different than the outside. It is small and beautifully done. I ABSOLUTELY love the decor. I almost wish there were no TVs in it as I feel it takes away from such a beautiful “Bistro”. Plus if there was outdoor seating it would be AMAZING! You can see the kitchen from the dining room and can just tell how professional this Restaurant is. It was busy with prep. Everyone was dressed the same and still put out AMAZING FOOD! I came here for my birthday and ordered the Dolmades for an appetizer and the lamb shank for my main dish. My server was this beautiful young lady who has a GREAT presence about her. The dolmades came out and there was bread a tzatziki sauce. Now I Love Dolmades and usually they taste a lot alike. This place has an extra seasoning on them that I can’t quite make out… who the hell cares they were DA BOMB! I gobbled those things up lickety split and the bread with that sauce.. I could have died right there but then I wouldn’t have had the chance to taste the lamb shank. The Lamb shank comes out and is huge (I thought I was fred flintstone for a moment). It’s served with rice and more bread.. SCORE!!!! It’s been 2 days and I can’t get that lamb shank out of my mind….I would marry that lamb shank. It is served with a tomato sauce and is out of this world. The meat was so tender and flavorful….I swear I was in Greece at a Michelin star bistro. I want to go everyday and eat that. It would be my last meal. The rice was cooked to perfection as it was seasoned well and you could taste every grain. The bread of course was phenomenal as usual. Plus the price is WAAAAAAY ON POINT! You get to have a 100$ Plate of food with appetizers and a drink for under 30$……ARE YOU SERIOUS? Yes I Am! You KICK ASS GREEK BISTRO!! My hat is off to the Chef and all the staff and owner. You get my highest honor 17 Platinum stars and a BAZINGA!!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!

Afghan Kabab Express Menu with Prices 305 Central Ave #2, Albany

Love this place!! Their chicken and rice is so good and I love that when you dine in you get an entire bottle of white sauce and hot sauce brought to ur table so you don’t have to pay extra for it! The dishes are so cheap here and they offer pretty big portion sizes I can never finish the chicken and rice and usually have some left over to bring home. Their chicken and lamb mix with rice is really good and I definitely recommend trying it. They also have bolani which i believe is like a pastry stuffed with potatoes. Their chicken wings and fried chicken are also really good!
