It’s the classic story. Boy wants ice cream, girl doesn’t want to go into a lactose intolerant coma. Cue, Hannah Montana “You get the best of both worlds.” This Shaved Ice bar has just about any flavor you could want in addition to natural flavorings and pillowy ice. The biggest shock was that The Shaved Ice Bar also has craft ice cream! The boyfriend got Dutch chocolate and cookie dough with sprinkles while I went with a classic blue raspberry and strawberry shaved ice. They also have nitro coffee and wireless charging mats on all the tables so you can charge your phone while you enjoy the shaved ice. We will absolutely be back! Pro tip: if you save your spoon and bring it back the next time you get a topping for free.

Glazed & Confused – Menu with Prices – 211 N Clinton St, Syracuse

DONUTS. How can you say no? Let’s start off saying that the donuts are all cake donuts. They aren’t super dense by any means, but don’t go in expecting any soft, light, airy yeast donuts. That being said, I ordered almost every single donuts here. The only donut I didn’t get was the powdered sugar one – I opted for 2 glazed sprinkles instead. I bought the Confused Dozen, which was 4 “Classic” donuts and 8 “Confused” donuts. The classics were cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glazed sprinkles, and chocolate with chocolate sprinkles. There were 8 other Confused donuts which I’ll mention below, and they had one weekend special, which I didn’t opt for this time. My order of best to worst (but not really worst, because donuts aren’t bad) donuts: 1. Lemon Drop with Blueberry Pop: THIS IS AMAZING! Hands down the best donut. The fruit in the cake dough kept it light, the lemon glaze brightened the whole donut. I could order an easy half dozen of these alone. 2. Up all Night: a regular cake donut with coffee glaze and crushed espresso beans on half of the donut. The coffee added a great kick of flavor and helped balance out the sweet dough and frosting. YUM. 3. Chocolate Raspberry Torte / Black Out: These are VERY similar. I love chocolate, so these are both placed pretty high for me. The 2 differences between these flavors are the toppings and cost. At $1 per donut, the Black Out is one of the classics – simple in execution and taste, but still packs a punch with decadent chocolate flavor. The Chocolate Raspberry Torte honestly tasted the same. Don’t get me wrong, its extremely good, but for $3 a donut, I would have hopped there would be more than a small drizzle of raspberry sauce and one fresh raspberry on top. If I had to get one of these, I’d opt for the Black Out to save the money. 4. What the Fluff?: I grew up in MA, so PB and fluff is a no brainer. This was a great combo. They made the fluff into a smooth buttercream that wasn’t as sickeningly sweet as straight from the jar, and the PB was strong in flavor. The plain donut underneath made it easy to taste all of the flavors of the PB/Fluff and was a great pairing. 5. Carnival / Sugar Daddy: Glazed sprinkles and Cinnamon Sugar. Need I say more? Good, classic donuts. Can’t complain – well made donuts here! 6. Notorious B.I.G: Chocolate and PB – the best pairing ever made on this planet, right? Well, in this case, all the components were delicious individually, but when put together, the chocolate cake was just SO chocolatey that it overpowered the PB cream – at least to me. My boyfriend seemed to think it was fine, but I wanted MORE peanut butter! Maybe I should have grabbed a knife and spread the buttercream… 7. Cereal Killer: Good, not great. Fruity pebbles are the best, but the glaze on mine never hardened, so the pebbles were soggy. Even fresh though, I think this would still be too sweet for me to finish a whole killer. 8. Dizzy Pig / Pardon my Strawberry French Toast: Just not my cup of tea. I don’t love maple bacon as a flavor combo though, so take my opinion here with a grain of salt. I just found the maple too sweet, and the bacon not salty enough. For the Strawberry French toast, I jsut felt disappointed with the lack of strawberries overall. I wanted more fruit, and it didn’t deliver. Overall, great cake donuts. I’ll probably come again, but maybe just get one or two donuts at a time. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area!

Lancaster Sweet Shoppe – Menu with Prices – 141 N Duke St #2888, Lancaster

This sweet shoppe was just that-a sweet little shoppe. Very cute with lots of delicious treats. Once you come in they have a large assortment of chocolates. The old me would buy the whole first and second row. Lots of things to choose from. I definitely saw some things I would love to try, but I came to try the ice cream which is located towards the back of the shoppe. They have a nice variety of ice creams flavors but not as large as the chocolates. We settled on two, a raspberry and strawberry cheesecake on a cone. I have to say the strawberry cheesecake didn’t have a cheesecake flavor at all. Though it was tasty it lacked that taste. The raspberry was also tasty but it too lacked in raspberry flavor. Overall it wasn’t bad, but I’ll stick to classic flavors next time.

Charlie’s Snow Shack – Menu with Prices – 14 NW 7th Ave, Gainesville

I adore this place. The “kiddie” size is sufficient for me and it’s a nice regular sized portion that I can actually finish. It’s $3 which once a month you can lower to $2 with the GCM phone app. The larger sizes are UNREASONABLY HUGE, so if for some reason you want a cantaloupe-sized portion of shaved ice, you can get that here! They are very friendly and patient and there are stools where you can sit and eat at the counter. So far I’ve had: cherry, coconut, blue raspberry, vanilla, “melona” (it’s cantaloupe but it’s green, so, Galia melon? LOL), and granny apple, all of which I liked. I do kinda want to try every flavor so at some point I’ll probably hit one that’s too sweet for me or gross but not yet! I am a giant “shaved ice” fan so it’s perhaps normal that I’d love my local place, but I figured it was still worth writing a review because if they were in any way not awesome, or less good than my standards, I’d have said so. So rest assured that you are in good hands here, if you are also a shaved ice devotee. Edited to add that guava and kiwi both taste like boring sugar water to me–and I know guava–and dreamscicle was very nice and not Triaminic-y at all as I’d feared. Yes, I am continuing to try them all ?

24 South Coffee House – Menu with Prices – 24 S Front St, Wilmington

I love it here! Multiple choices around the area for coffee but I come here for specifically for my caffeinated beverage of choice. Nitro Cold Brew! I typically judge nitro brews against Starbucks as I personally feels they have been very consistent in the quality of their Nitro Brews. That being said, the nitro brew here is smoother and had a slightly lighter roast taste when compared to Starbucks. They also have it in a 24 oz which is awesome!! The store itself has a nice ambiance and the staff have always been friendly and accommodating. My wife has other coffee drinks here which have tasted good when she had me sip on them. Unfortunately, I don’t know the types of coffee/espresso they were lol! Definitely stop by for the Nitro Brew!!

Little Red’s Bakeshop & Café – Menu with Prices – 1401 SW Yamhill St, Portland

I’m a sucker for a good bakery and there’s a ton Little Red’s Bakeshop does right. For one, their cookies are delicious. The sugar cookies may be small and rather spendy, but they’re perfect. Prolly best to keep the price point at $3.50 each as it deters me from polishing off the whole lot. The OR trail cookies, a mix of oatmeal, chocolate chips, cranberries, and all sorts of goodies, are equally delicious. Have also tried the almond croissant. The flavor in this is outstanding- there’s a hint of amaretto or something extra into the almond paste. Not sure, but it was delicious. The croissant had beautiful layers- was super impressed with the lamination of the pastry. The only problem was the filling made it wet inside and the dough surrounding the filling was raw. So raw that it gave me a bit of a stomach ache. The flavor was spot on, but bummer about the raw dough. Lastly, we just tried a small chocolate birthday cake with raspberry jam and raspberry buttercream. The cake, flavor of the jam, and buttercream were all delicious. I did ask for light buttercream, as I like sponge more than cream, and the cake still had too much cream. I probably scraped away most of the cream on my slices of cake, but it was delicious none the less. Would definitely recommend checking out this small bakery. They have a few indoor tables to enjoy your treats and coffee and tea as well.

Shenandoah Joe Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 945 Preston Ave, Charlottesville

Stopped in for an afternoon coffee on a whim and was very impressed. Parking in the lot out front was easy, although they have spots arbitrarily designated for the pharmacy next door so watch out. The inside space is really big – bigger than it seems from the outside. There are numerous seating options including quieter tables and larger communal spaces. They appear to roast all the coffee on premises and I saw them working on a few batches in the open area behind the dining room. They had an extensive menu with numerous beans and roasts as well as all your standard espresso offerings. We opted to try both the nitro and cold brew and got a glass of the former. We received friendly service and were served the coffee in a glass. It was a pleasant experience and would be a great spot to bring friends and catch up or get some work done. A classic coffee shop for sure.

Cherry Chill – Ice Cream Rolls – Menu with Prices – 2448 S Vineyard Ave #110, Ontario

Oh look. The DIY iced cream joint got a 5 star review from another human being with an iced cream bias. Let us find out why. Cherry Chill lets every iced cream crazed freak on its premises make whatever they want to concoct. Care to arrange a bunch of gummi bears as is they’re lumbering all over soft serve mtn.? Go for it. How about a bunch of blue sharks washed up on chocolate beach? Be my guest. Fill a cup with sprinkles and throw it skyward, if you like. Just when I thought reality could not get any more out of control loco at Cherry Chill, the mgmt. goes ahead and introduces the Cookie Monster yogurt flavor. The eerie truth about this new flavor is it tastes much, much better than I expected. I actually preferred it to Cookies ‘n’ Cream. Worse and weirder than that fact: the yogurt is as blue as the Cookie Monster’s cheeks on a chilly day. Does it turn the tongue blue? Get ready for blue-pers. Every receipt from Cherry Chill should have coupons for whitening toothpaste. I don’t want to go into too much depth about the blue iced cream. The weight of the iced cream I ate should not be a topic of discussion either. Read the lips of anyone walking out of Cherry Chill: Blue Iced cream tastes like Cookies.

Zeds Real Fruit Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 4001 SW Canyon Rd, Portland

I love Raspberry Ice Cream….and I can honestly say that ZED’S ICE CREAM TRUCK offers the best Raspberry Ice Cream I’ve eaten in my 73 years of life. I ran into this truck at a Portland park event that my grand-daughter, the gymnast, was participating in a show at. I saw someone eating what looked like a yummy scoop of ice cream and discovered it was the Zed’s truck. I got to hear the history of their ultra cool machine and watch them add fresh raspberries to TILLAMOOK vanilla ice cream..We all know that Tillamook is the best ice cream in the state, right? Gotta support our local cows and dairy farmers. The addition of fresh fruit..Sunday they were seeing Raspberry, Strawberry and Marionberry. I wish I could have tried them all, but the waffle cone I had was filled way up over the top with the ice cream turned into magic soft serve. I understand the truck is usually on Hawthorne..a sad thing for me as I live on the west side..but all you east siders..go see the guys at ZEDS..and have them tell you the story of where the machine comes from..it’s interesting.

Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market Menu with Prices 1825 W Chew St, Allentown

The Allentown Farmer’s Market is GREAT and certainly deserves 5 Stars over all, but do NOT let anyone at the new cell phone shop touch your cell phone (shop name is Deal Wireless). My daughter’s iPhone had a cracked screen, and the guy there said he would fix it in an hour, and I thought it would be a good idea to shop in the Farmer’s Market for an hour or so and pick up her fixed phone on the way out… Well, the screen was replaced with a VERY low quality screen that appeared quite dark and the phone exhibited unexpected behavior when swiping and tapping the screen. The guy would not stand by his shoddy work and said that he could not do anything to help us. We took the phone to a reputable cell phone repair shop (FIX Mobile in South Mall) where we got a higher quality replacement screen, installed by a skilled technician who showed us a sensor the guy at the Farmer’s Market had BROKEN while trying to remove the cracked screen. I would not recommend doing any business at all at the cell phone shop in the Allentown Farmer’s Market. I go to the Farmer’s Market just about every week and I intend to continue going, but I will steer clear of the cell phone place. UPDATE: I changed this to 5 Stars because the Farmer’s Market management team intervened, and Deal Wireless refunded my money, only because of this intervention. So 5 Stars for Allentown Farmer’s Market.

Sugar Mama’s Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 11208 Lee Hwy, Fairfax

One of the best, ice cream shops that make amazing homemade ice cream!! (: I can tell it’s purely homemade because it’s not too sugary like most store brand ones are. As a sweet tooth lover, it’s not overloaded with sugar that can give me a sugar coma if I eat too much haha! If I don’t have control over myself, I will actually eat the whole pint they sell lol. The flavors I tried so far were: -Cookie Dough -Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip -Espresso Chip I wanted to try Peanut Butter Cup, but they always seem to sell out fast ): All those 3 flavors were DELICIOUS. I love, love, LOVE that it has the baking chocolate chips in its whole form, instead of shredded/chopped up bits of chip. The slight, frozen crunch of chips are just so satisfying~ First off, Black Raspberry was slighty berry fruity, but it was like eating a sweet, berry yogurt (just not sour!). I can definitely taste the creamy milk in the ice cream. Just the right amount of sugar they put in! Not super sweet at all. With the Cookie Dough, I am a BIG fan of the cookie dough pieces in my ice cream. The dough pieces were surprisingly not sweet at all either. It just felt like eating a piece of fresh, homemade cookie, not a sugar cube haha. It was also soft enough to let it melt in your mouth, kind of feeling. The Espresso Chip.. not going to lie, is the best one I have tried. Espresso shouldn’t be too strong or overly sweet (that’s not espresso then….?) when mixed with ice cream. It was on point!! I love coffee. Espresso had the right amount of milk added to it, along with a tiny, slight bit of bitterness to it. Pretty much like coffee with milk with a dash of sugar (: YUM!!! Overall, these ice cream flavors they sell are great for non-sweet lovers, or even older people. I like stocking up from this store rather than buying, sugary and artificially flavored ice creams at the local stores. God knows what other bad stuff they put in those store bought ones…

La Michoacana Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 1845 E 4th St, Ontario

Just came back from eating here and I can’t wait to go back! They have so many flavors in both ice cream and popsicles! Also fresh juices, corn on the cob, fruit bowls, shaved ice, and more! Ice cream Coconut (5 stars): One of the best coconut ice creams I’ve had! Caramel (4 stars) Tequila (4 stars) Strawberry cheesecake (4 stars) Cookies and Cream (4 stars) Vanilla (5 stars): One of the best vanillas I’ve had! Popsicles Strawberry with cream at the bottom (5 stars) Coconut (5 stars) SERVICE (5 star) Everyone was so nice here! The owner came out and let us try as many ice cream flavors as we liked. The woman working there was really nice too! Very welcoming. ATMOSPHERE The plaza isn’t the most fanciest place but when you go in here it’s nice and clean. They have tables inside and outside. PARKING In a plaza so parking is easy. Usually when I go to homemade ice cream places I only find one or two flavors I like but I liked everything I tried! Can’t wait to go back. My entire family loved it. I’m probably going to be addicted to this place.

Fifth Avenue Nutrition – Menu with Prices – 414 W Avenue D, Garland

I am so excited that I found a local business near where I work and live that provides healthy options of baked treats, ice cream, shaved ice, and coffees, etc. Not only healthy but KETO friendly!!! I had a keto peanut butter cookie and a flat white and both were delicious! They serve BRCC(black Rifle Coffee Company) and it was very smooth and has a great flavor! I also sampled the nitro coffee. It was perfect and will definitely get it next time. The coffee is veteran owned and at 5th Avenue Nutrition they really support our Vets and everyone that serves our country. I love what they stand for! I also love the area they set up outside behind the building that is a great place to gather with friends and family. What a great edition to our community!!
