I just had my first meal at the Peaceful Palate on a rainy day. I had a BLT (Tempeh Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich), Sweet potato fries, and the soup of the day. I have been been vegan for seven years, lived in Eugene for three, and this is the best vegan food truck I have had here and perhaps anywhere. Tempeh can often be too salty and over bearing — not this one it was perfect. I will definitely come back for another BLT. The sweet potato fries are cooked with no oil, and served with a tasteful dribble of excellent cashew cheese (I think) sauce…scrumptious. The soup was perfect, not to salty, lots of greens, and a mixed assortment of beans and lentils. The truck is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11-5. I don’t know the owner. I am writing this review because The Peaceful Palate should have a line going down the street. While waiting for your meal, visit Hummingbird Wholesale.

Gia Minh Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 6181 Fraser St, Vancouver

There are four vegan items are on the menu: vegan spring rolls, vegan salad rolls, vegan pho, and vegan sub. The salad rolls are wrapped around a mildly salty tofu/tempeh. These rolls are tender and fiberous as a filling appetizer. It is served with peanut sauce for more delicious flavour. The peanut sauce is a love or hate accoutrement. It is supplanting the tempeh flavour, and I’m not able to taste tempeh. This is despite the good taste. I would recommend eating the salad rolls as it is, and the peanut sauce is good for your bean sprouts. I recommend chomping-down with the tofu side on tongue. Unlike others, the spring rolls are thinner but sweet. The crispy outer is clean and plane. Every bite is smooth in the centre, and it is a sweet starchy inside. I am told that it’s made with veggies, mungbeans, and bean sprouts. The vegetable broth is not a simple vegetable broth from a Campbell’s stock. When you first receive it, a sip is warm enough to get blood rushing to your ears. The flavour is bold and salty to remind you of cold winter seasons behind a steaming soup that one might enjoy as much as desert. The noodles are like the typical rice noodles. They are elastic, chewy, and flavourful by the sweetness. The large bowl is a larger noodle bundle to enjoy. You should wait for the noodles to soak the broth, so it’s easy to pull. I recommend eating the noodles for a while, and you should add bean sprouts when you find the soup too salty. With the bean sprouts, the soup is balanced and a mix of salty and washed-out flavours. The sandwich is same tofu as salad rolls. The bread, the cucumbers, carrots, bell peppers, cilantros, and jalapeños are standard and good. I should ask for no butter/mayo for a vegan version. I prefer the salad rolls to this sub.

Love Food Central – Menu with Prices – 2057 Central Ave, St. Petersburg

I am a meat eater. An omnivore. A lover of bacon (sorry vegans and vegetarians). However, that is kind of a good thing in this case, because I love Love Food Central. It is absolutely a place that anyone plant based can come with meat eater friends and everyone still enjoy a meal. In fact, if you have omnivore friends who think they could never eat plant based, this is a great first place to bring them to prove them wrong (there are others but this isn’t another business’ yelp page). If you’re a meat eater like me, or a vegetarian or vegan who wants to try to get their friends to try a plant based substitution to a meal every now and then (or more often), then come here and order the buffalo tempeh. They do a buffalo tempeh sandwich, but also a tempeh reuben. However, I go with the veggie wrap and add buffalo tempeh. Its true that this wrap is solely a method to deliver veggies and buffalo sauce to your mouth, but oh my god it is good. The wrap is gluten free, the tempeh is fine – again, its just a protein to cover in buffalo sauce – and the veggies are cooked perfectly, but this wrap brings is all together. Honestly, I have never gotten anything else. I think I tried my fiance’s tempeh reuben once, or maybe it was the buffalo tempeh sandwich or maybe she got the tempeh reuben but with buffalo tempeh. Don’t know. I’m sure it was good. Doesn’t matter. The veggie wrap with buffalo tempeh is hands down one of my favorite sandwiches/wraps on central. Oh yeah, they have a case full of delicious vegan baked desserts – I’ve had cookies and I think cupcakes and loved them. They also do a vegan soft serve ice cream – I can’t remember if its cashew or soy or coconut milk or what, but sometimes its good. Depends on the flavor. They will do an ice cream sandwich with it too. Anyway, desserts are fine to great, but its not why I come here. Veggie wrap. Add buffalo tempeh. You will not regret it. Dog friendly outside tables, too. Picnic tables, but my boy Bruce doesn’t care. Doesn’t have to be fancy as long as he can come. He’s a good boy. So again, my vegan friends, or at least, vegans with whom I have an uneasy truce. I like it here. I like coming here and eating this food. You might be on to something.

Pearl Island Catering – Menu with Prices – 233 4th St NW, Charlottesville

This place (along with the Vu Noodles that shares its space) was truly a hidden gem in the area. I stopped by several times during the summer of 2019 for weeknight dinners while staying in the nearby Residence Inn for business. It was so convenient, and was never busy when I was there. I generally took my food to go, but there’s a pretty nice seating area if you have your food to stay. (I started doing this towards the end of my stay in Charlottesville and found it to be very pleasant and calm.) My favorite item on the Pearl Island menu was the vegan creole beans, and I got it basically every time I came here. There were days when I actually had cravings for these beans–they were the perfect combination of sweet and tangy, and very filling as well. I did get the pulled pork one time, and while it was great, the vegan creole beans were still my absolute favorite. There’s plenty of great food options in Charlottesville, but the vegan creole beans ranked near the top for me not just out of the vegan food I tried, but for food in general in the area. The platters come with a side of salad, pikliz, rice, and fried plantains. The salad comes with a delicious dressing mixed in (not sure if you can get it on the side as I never asked). The rice was great when mixed up with the beans and made the meal hearty and comforting. The pikliz took some getting used to for me, as they have quite a strong flavor. I always finished them, but they weren’t my favorite part of the meal. The fried plantains were light salted and complimented the flavors of the rest of the meal really well. Also, I’d never say no to fried plantains! The staff working here were always friendly and it’s clear a lot of care has been put into the food and the space. If you’re in the area, definitely stop by and try this place out!

Acadia Foods – Menu with Prices – 228 W Acadia Ave, Winston-Salem

My husband and I have been here at least once every weekend for the last month. They have some of the best sandwiches in town and you can tell they put thought into each one. The atmosphere is also very laid back and they have a patio you can eat out on as well. I’m vegan and their vegan tempeh, lettuce, and tomato sandwich and cauliflower melt sandwich are killer. My husband isn’t vegan and his favorites are the fried ribeye sandwich and fancy bologna sandwich. We’ve also gone for their brunch on Sundays which is also awesome. He loves the slappys chicken biscuit and chorizo sandwich (which is the size of his head). I’ve only had a bagel with tempeh and vegan cheese (which is made with lavender and honey’s local bagels) and it was pretty good but they have some other vegan options I’m wanting to try. They have mimosas and such for brunch but also coffee and specialty coffee drinks any other time of the week which are really good. We usually don’t spend more than $25 on an entire meal with sides which is one of the best parts. We highly recommend this place!! Winston needs a place with great food and great prices.

Gallows Hill Spirits Co. Menu with Prices 2208 S 12th St, Allentown

What would you do if you thought your relatives crossed over on the Mayflower but after researching it find that your great+ grandfather was actually the last witch put to death in Salem? Open a distillery of course. We had a great time at Gallow Hill Spirits in Allentown. A special tour, tasting and history to boot. Many cocktails available — my hubby had the Mojito, which was excellent, and I had the Expresso Martini, which was quite tasty. This Saturday there was a food truck outside, with excellent sweet potato fries. Normally the winery has some crunchy snacks to purchase, but the fries went well with the drinks.

Uptown Scratch Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1280 N Ponce De Leon Blvd, St. Augustine

This food truck has been on my radar thanks to Anthony (@devouringjax) and we made it just in time. The truck has outgrown its tiny spot and will be closing it’s doors to open a new four walls location! They open at 12 which is a little late for lunch but we spent the time exploring the two other spots near by (Creme de la Cocoa and Dos Coffee & Wine). The menu at Uptown is small but everything is made in house. We opted for the fish and chips and the shrimp po boy. Our initial impression was “wow, that is a meal” and it only got better from there. The fish was lightly battered with a great seasoning, not too salty. The rosemary fries were cut right in front of us while we waited! They even make their own ketchup. The shrimp po boy easily had 15 shrimp on it and they were so fresh. The onion rings were also a delightful change from fries. The truck offers outdoor tables or you are welcome to eat inside at Dos and order beverages etc. We enjoyed the fresh air and an ice coffee. It truly was a great meal so rush down there now if you can’t wait. Otherwise, save this spot because I see big things in their future.

Simon’s Hot Dogs – Menu with Prices – 4280 N Drinkwater Blvd #200, Scottsdale

COLOMBIANOS EN PHOENIX!! This spot is literally a hidden gem, snugged deep in old town Scottsdale by the fashion square. On the weekends, they have arepas!! They are also amazing because not only is it Colombian food but it is VEGAN food as well. Everything on their menu can be turned into vegan so it’s a great compromise spot (as some of you vegans who are married to non vegans can relate). I on my first visit I got the Colombian hot dog and it was so delicious. The coleslaw and crushed potato chips with pineapple sauce on top of vegan hot dog was so delicious, I couldn’t believe they made that happen! And the French fries are so crispy and thick and delicious, literally talking about it makes me want to eat them again. Their vegan Mac and Cheese is soo warm and delicious and if you are latina takes you down memory lane to when you would have home cooked food. Today for lunch, I had the Colombian vegan burger and the patty made of lentils, seeds and beets was so well made and put together, it was the best legume based burger I have had at a restaurant. Try this place out the next time you are in Scottsdale old town! The staff is so sweet and warm, such love in what they provide to their customers.

Peace-Garden Vegetarian Paradise – Menu with Prices – 47 Clarence St, Ottawa

Very peaceful place inside the Time Square plaza with some amazing vegetarian and vegan food. It is run by ladies who seem to be the devotees of the Chinmaya mission. Food: We went for the Daal (lentil soup), Mexican Lasagna and a Sweet Potato Burger. Daal was actually a side to the burger. Having said that, it was absolutely delicious – very homely and loved every bit of it. The Sweet Potato Burger was great as well – the patty was amazing, the tomato slide was great (although, could have been a little thinner) and the sprouts made the overall burger extremely healthy. Mexican Lasagna was good – great taste and the veggies+sprouts went well with it. Before leaving, we went for Honey Carob drink and a Cafe Au Lait. While the Honey Carob was quite good, Cafe Au Lait was terrible – largely because it was too watery and pretty much bland. So, for coffee, this is not the place. Ambiance: Very much living up to its name, the place is very peaceful. There were many paintings, antiques and books available inside. It doesn’t have a large seating space but a very neat and clean set up. Staff: The ladies operating the place were really nice and friendly. While the steaming hot soups were ready already with self-serve, the rest of the meal didn’t take much time to come. Overall, a great place to be – nothing high profile but a very humble setting and a great healthy food. Being in the Byward market area, it is also very close to all the major attractions – Parliament, National Gallery, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica etc. Definitely to be visited.

Chuck Lager America’s Tavern – Menu with Prices – 4500 Linden Hill Rd, Wilmington

Visited today for brunch and ordered the Bombolini breakfast burger – which is basically a cheeseburger with fluffy donut buns, fried egg, and sriracha aioli. It comes with fries smothered in syrup with bits of bacon. To get the simple things out of the way, first I’ll say the service was fast and friendly. The burger, however, I will not order again. My interpretation of a fried egg is cooked all the way through.. the yolk was not. I got the burger well done and it was very dry. I got the aioli on the side and it was ok, but I don’t like sriracha. Seems like whoever created this meal thought the aioli would carry the flavor of the burger. Lastly, my least favorite were the fries. It was weird, but kind of made sense in the beginning. I liked it at first but I’m not a fan of the overwhelming smell of maple syrup. About halfway through eating the fries I got an upset stomach. I think the fries were really innovative but it was definitely too sweet and too much sugar.. the meal wasn’t salty sweet like it should have been it was just…. sweet. The sugar on the buns taste like cotton candy, the meat was dry and had no flavor.. I think this meal needs to be revisited by the chef.. The preparation of the burger needs work, but I think maybe substitute the fries for sweet potato fries or something salty. This did not work for me and now my stomach hates me. It was just… odd. I thought the burger would be up my alley because I have a weird obsession with chocolate and sugar, but it’s not something I see anyone else enjoying, unless they love syrup smothered food. I would return and try the lunch/dinner menu and desserts though.

IVANOPOBLANO – Menu with Prices – 1016 Oxford St E, London

Qué rico! As always in our travels, some of the best places to eat are tucked away in place you’d never expect and so fun to find! Ivanopoblano is a food truck that is parked on the side of a business parking lot…Lyn-Dys. Not only is the owner a great cook but he is super personable as well! The food truck items are 100% organic with choices ranging from meat (chicken & beef) to vegetarian and vegan and a big bonus is he can offer gluten free as well! I’d highly recommend one of his vegan options, which is Ratatouille taco. It was so incredibly flavorful with sweet potatoes and beans and was just the perfect amount of food after having to try the Mushroom taco as well. It was just as flavorful and a first for me, having a taco with mushrooms and I’d definitely order it again! Husband had the Beef taco and Avocado taco and said they were both really good too…perfect spice, perfect flavor. I have to mention that he also went the extra mile and cleaned his grills really good because he is extremely conscious of celiac disease and when I mentioned we both had flour allergies he cleaned everything off the grills. That’s pretty cool in my books and we will be returning while staying in London because I need to try his Chilaquiles!!

California Tofu Grill – Menu with Prices – 1993 W Malvern Ave, Fullerton

I didn’t go to this place for a while because I thought it was like a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s Korean food. I love tofu soup, I mean who doesn’t? For the most part tofu soup is pretty similar wherever you go so you can really differentiate which places are better by 2 things: side dishes and broth flavor. FOOD: 5/5 So the food here is standard. Lets start with the side dishes. The banchan here is good, they have good kimchi and they also give you a little salad. My favorite banchan was thechive pancake and the stir fried green beans. The pancake was warm and crispy so you know it’s fresh and the green beans were nice and crunchy. Also the little fish that comes with the soup was also freshly cooked. Crispy and hot when we received it. Now onto the main. I always get the oyster tofu soup, my brother got the bibimbap combo with cheese and ham tofu soup, while my sister got the beef patty combo with seafood tofu soup. As always, it was delicious. Extremely hot and bubbly, perfect amount of seasoning. The seafood really gives the broth a deep flavor. The ham and cheese was good as well, similar to army stew. The bibimbap was sizzling and stayed hot throughout the entire meal. The beef patties were really good as well. The server cuts it up for you so that’s nice. Sweet and salty served on a sizzling pan of onions so the grease gets soaked up. Everything was delicious. SERVICE: 4.5/5 The service here is better than some other Korean restaurants . The ladies were very sweet and they were constantly working. They seat everyone and bus their own tables so even though there were moments when I needed a water refill it was understandable. Overall this is a great tofu place, even if you’re not a fan of tofu soup there are plenty of other options. Great side dishes and entrees so I have no complaints.

Juicy’s Wellness Cafe of Murfreesboro – Menu with Prices – 2314 Medical Center Pkwy, Murfreesboro

I had been to the Juicy’s in McMinnville and was pretty satisfied in the past, but yesterday I went to the Murfreesboro one and got loaded nachos. You’d think this place would stand out as a vegan option in this area, which is so needed, and you’d think they’d do some research and take some tips from thriving vegan places like Wild Cow and other vegan places in Nashville or even in other states. They don’t even offer burgers except on certain days, I guess. They don’t have a menu online, only on facebook. The nachos were awful. The chips were obviously cheap quality as well as low quantity. I called first to ask what’s on the nachos. I was told oh, they’re loaded with black beans, salsa, onions, vegan cheese, sour cream, etc, and she said they were so goo. Well, there was hardly any black beans, maybe 10 total, small container of salsa and hardly any sour cream, like literally a dollop of sour cream, maybe tablespoon, at most. Mostly was just a bunch of melted cheese on crappy chips. I was so disappointed. I took a picture of the nachos to show, but I don’t see an option to attach it to this review. They need a more diverse menu and they need vegan meats other than jackfruit only. They need seitan, tempeh, and tofu options. I’m not going to be ordering from here again.
