We had never had jambalaya before and definitely wanted to try it on our trip to the South. We were so happy that we decided to try it here as the food was amazing. My husband had the Jambalaya Bowl which came with a roll. It was piled high with rice, huge chunks of chicken, and tasty sausage. I got the Jambalaya dinner which came with your choice of two sides and a roll. I chose the red beans and potato salad as my sides and they were very good. It must be a local favorite as there were several guests in there enjoying the food and there was a steady line of to-go orders. We highly recommend that you go here if you want some good jambalaya.

Hank’s Smoked Briskets – Menu with Prices – 3736 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr St, Indianapolis

Not worth the wait! Arrived at 4:20pm in a Friday and didn’t get our food to take home until around 5:30pm. There were 3 orders in front of us and a steady flow after us. Two people working, Hank and a lady. After they gave the customers waiting their orders they then took ours and the couple behind us. While waiting and watching it seems they take 2-3 orders at a time and after filling those they take more orders. However, they don’t explain this or greet those waiting to place an order. After picking up your order you pay. Definitely not the friendliest either. They expect you to know your order when at the window. I was surprised that they actually seemed perturbed with our larger order. You would think a large order with sides, desserts and several pounds of meat would be appreciated. Interior is small waiting area with about 5-6 chairs to sit while waiting on your order. There’s a TV with the menu scrolling and that’s about it. Do have to say the aroma of the BBQ was wonderful while waiting! Brisket & ribs, cole slaw and baked beans were alright. We like our ribs to fall off the bone and these weren’t as tender as we usually like. Brisket was very fatty and needed a little more seasoning. Side of potato salad was probably the worst we’ve had in a long time. Potato salad was almost a greenish yellow color and had a curry or funny spice taste to it. People only tried a bite and tossed the rest. Baked beans were tasty especially if put some chopped brisket mixed in them. Caramel apple and peach cobblers were okay. Being raised in Texas and growing up with BBQ, our group was disappointed especially after such a long wait! Looks like we will be looking for another BBQ joint here in Indy.

Vitek’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1600 Speight Ave, Waco

It was an epic, though not long road trip, from Austin to Dallas. It was my dream to stop and eat some great BBQ off the highway en route somewhere in a smaller Texas town. So Vitek’s in Waco looked to be a solid choice, and boy was I impressed! They don’t do a huge selection of barbecue, they do a few things and they do it FAST and right. It appears that if you want a messier, hands-on type of meal that tours a bunch of what they make – then the “gut pack” and pulled pork nachos are top choices. I actually wanted a neater, cleaner meal where I could relish and savor some of the best meats they have to offer with a couple of sides that would complement them. So, I chose a 2 meat plate with sliced beef brisket and jalapeno sausage. The premium cut brisket was expertly cooked with the right layer of fat and charred perfectly. It was not very melt in your mouth like some may like, there was a chew to it, but definitely not overly chewy. Right in the middle on texture which is A-OK with me at this speed and price point. The jalapeno sausage had great flavor, not too spicy, and the meat was succulent. Really high quality. Usually I am not too impressed by BBQ sausage but this was smoky, peppery deliciousness. Each meat gives you about a 1/4 lb pre-cooked, so a hungry man would definitely want a 2 meat plate, and keep in mind you can mix or match the meats. My sides choices were refreshingly cold potato salad and beans. I highly considered the mac & cheese, but I think the tangy sweet meets spice of the beans offsets the potato salad nicely (compared to mac and potato salad both being creamy). I love that there is a good cold, cheap beer selection which is pretty cool considering it’s practically counter service. So you could have ordered, paid and be sitting down with your BBQ and a beer within mere minutes. Amazing. My Coors Light was only $3! The inside has a charming decor too. My only complaint is the bread they give here is very basic sliced bread. I yearned for cornbread, Texas toast, a biscuit, or even a dinner roll like King’s Hawaiian. I only eat carbs when they are worth it, so I tossed my bread sadly. I have to say for really quick counter service BBQ right off the highway between Austin and Dallas – this is a must for travelers that want great BBQ at faster than fast food speeds and a much lower price tag than a sit down restaurant. Awesome taste, simple menu, meets great value. I highly recommend this place and give it two thumbs up!

Pack Road Country Meats – Menu with Prices – 7086 Pack Rd, London

Hello, It was lovely to meet you both last Saturday. You truly seem like great people. We just really felt compelled to weigh in on the food that was served. We didn’t want to say anything in front of our guests. And we’re normally not the type to complain. However, we have to say, although the meat was spectacular, the rest of the meal was definitely lacking. First of all, the Greek salad, what Greek salad meant to us was a salad consisting of tomatoes, olives and feta cheese. Not a pasta salad with very little other than pasta in it. We noticed that the potato salad was purchased at Costco and we sure weren’t expecting Hamburg buns for beef on a bun. Not for $1,000.00!!! We would never serve Costco potato salad to our guests. That’s why we hired a caterer. Also, one pasta salad for 50 people? It ran out before my husband even got any. Since you came highly recommended, we were expecting an impressive spread for our guests. Which we did not get (other than the meat). Pretty disappointed for what cost us over a $1,000.00.

Big Box Catering – Menu with Prices – 5014 Ross Ave, Dallas

The bbq sauce, both regular and spicy, are DELICIOUS. It’s really good! However, I don’t think I’d recommend. Read on… Sides: Mac and cheese, potato salad, corn bread, beans, and cole slaw. Go big or go home right? The potato salad was tasty but can’t say much about any of the other sides. Mac and cheese had the texture of thick, fake cheese, cole slaw was missing something, both were just EH. My boyfriend liked the corn bread though. Beans were ok as well. The sides were just… ok… and that’s the problem. As for the meat, ordered lean, sliced brisket and maybe that’s not a good idea bc obviously the fattier cut is always better, but it just wasn’t good. The sauce saved the meat to be honest. My boyfriend also got the sausage and when I asked if it was good he just responded with, it’s alright. It’s a shame bc the inside is pretty chill. They had football games on all the TVs inside. And there’s a drive-thru. It just didn’t WOW me like Texas BBQ should. I’ve had better, as some would say.

Ross Bridge Farmers Market Menu with Prices 2080 Grand Ave, Birmingham

I have to admit when I arrived at the Ross Bridge Farmer’s Market this isn’t where I planned on eating….in fact there were a couple other food trucks on my radar. However, when I arrived the air was consumed with some of the best smoky bbq smell ever. My decision was made! Sandwiches and BBQ plates were the primary choices. Sandwiches come with one side and plates come with two sides. Really hard to decide, but when they said I could mix the plate (pork and chicken) I was sold. My sides were potato salad and cole slaw (greens and beans also available). I have to be totally honest I’m not sure which meat I liked best, The pork was really good and very fat free (not always the case at BBQ joints) and the chicken was juicy white meat. The BBQ sauce complimented both perfectly. The potato salad wasn’t too bad, not my favorite but had a pretty good overall flavor and texture (not to wet). The cole slaw was really not for me, but I can’t deduct any stars for that because I’m just not a huge fan of sweeter style cole slaws. Prices are reasonable and they sell cans of soda for $1 (which isn’t bad for a place like this. The order taker was very friendly and had her hands full with the large crowd. Taking orders and calling out names when orders came up. She was handling everything perfectly.

The Shack, BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2309 N Frankford Ave, Lubbock

Was able to grab a quick lunch here before heading back to Austin. I called ahead to ask how busy it was around noon, they said they had a line out the door so we just placed our order over the phone on the way there for dine-in and skipped the line. Within 15-20 minutes we were sitting and eating. Had the ribs, pulled pork, chopped brisket; half a pound each, a full rack of ribs with the loaded potato salad and coleslaw. This was enough food to share among 4 people and hit the spot. My favorite was the brisket in terms of smokiness and fattiness but the flavor of the pork ribs puts it second. The ribs didn’t fall off the bone, unfortunately, but maybe we just had a back rack? Really enjoyed the potato salad, not a fan of coleslaw for the most part in general. And the bbq sauces were fine, extreme isn’t that spicy; I do love spicy food. Overall, a good bbq place in Lubbock with lots of seating, I highly recommend phoning in your orders during busy hours. I would come back to try the sliced brisket and burnt ends next time.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken – Menu with Prices – 4065 Fowler St, Fort Myers

2 stars for service, 4 stars for food. We were here at 9:30 on a Thursday night. They are open until midnight. Ordered (2)2-piece chicken combos, was told it came with a side, a biscuit and a drink. When we got to the window, the girl told us they were making fresh fries for us and it would be a few minutes. We did not order fries as our side. I told her this and she said the combos come with fries and we were charged $2.00 each for the sides that we chose. What?! Okay, so we wait and about 5 mins later she comes back to the window and says the fryer is still filling with oil so it will take a long time for fries so do we want something else in its place. We never wanted fries to begin with so we ask for another rice & beans and mac & cheese (the sides we ordered and paid $2.00 each for). But why have they drained the fryer at 9:30 if they are opened until 12:00?? When we get home, we discovered that they must have been out of biscuits too because we had none but we did have an additional side of jambalaya. I guess they decided that was a good substitute for biscuits?? Again, it’s 9:30 and they are open for another 2.5 hours! The chicken was delicious!! Very crisp and crunchy, but still light. It’s not a thick, heavy breading. Seasoned perfectly, really good flavor! The rice & beans was okay, lacked that smoky meat flavor that it should have. The mac & cheese was fine, just your basic, average mac & cheese. Jambalaya was good, had some nice pieces of sausage and meat in it. I would have loved to comment on the biscuits, but we didn’t get any! The only advantage this place has over Popeye’s is that they stay open later, but if they start running out of food 2-3 hours before they close, then the advantage is gone. If I had the option of going to Popeyes, I would! While the chicken here is really good, the sides are no match for Popeyes!

Pepper’s Barbeque & Catering – Menu with Prices – 4620 Warm Springs Rd, Columbus

I am not a Columbus local but I visit the area once a month on business. I have been to Peppers twice now and both times were very good experiences. I had the large rib platter both times, which had 5 bones (St. Louis cut spare ribs) and 2 sides. So far I have tried the mac salad, potato salad, stew and beans and my favorites among those were the macaroni salad and the beans. They have a variety of sauces, all homemade, and all very good. Give Peppers a try!

67 Biltmore Downtown Eatery + Catering Menu with Prices 67 Biltmore Ave, Asheville

67 Biltmore is my favorite place in town for catering. They have a brick and mortar location downtown Asheville which is beautiful and has a great menu but really, their catering is A+! They cater the lunches at my work regularly and every single meal is fresh, healthy and absolutely delicious. They really have a knack for creating food with rich, complex flavors while creating a healthy meal that truly satisfies hunger and is nourishing. Some of my favorite things that they make are the pesto chicken salad, their sweet potato salad, the kale salad (definitely my favorite!), white bean and arugula salad and sesame peanut pasta salad. They also offer cheese and meat platters, slaws, potato salads, bean salads, fruit bowls and wraps. Emily and Adam are so awesome and all of the other staff that I’ve had interactions with have been really friendly as well. Great place, I highly recommend for anyone looking for some awesome catering!

NKG Café & Soulfood – Menu with Prices – 2626 Rio Linda Blvd, Sacramento

I love this spot!! The inside is SPOTLESS. Dining room and bathrooms both. Angel greeted us when we came in with our two kiddos at 6ish on a Friday! It was quiet which was nice. Angel put the TV on for us; she was super friendly. The owner, Leilani, also came out and said hello; super sweet and chill vibe. We ordered 2 x 3 Meats/2 Sides and a Chicken Strips (w/ fries) for the kiddos. Sides: Mac N Cheese, Potato Salad, Cornbread, and Red Beans & Rice. Everything was delicious; husband didn’t rave about the potato salad or red beans & rice. I really enjoyed the cornbread and butter (wiped all through my leftover bbq sauce) and the Mac N Cheese was sooooo good; perfect comfort food!!! All of the meat was delicious (ribs, chicken, hot link, and tri tip!) and the chicken tenders for our kiddos were super tender! Perfect!! As we were leaving we grabbed two pieces of sweet potato pie; the girls really wanted chocolate cake so Miss Leilani just threw in two. I love the energy in this place. It was a relaxing environment and we will definitely be back!! Thank you!

Firewall Food Stop Menu with Prices 1546 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW, Atlanta

I used Firewall Food Stop for the catering at my wedding in March, and could not be happier with how everything turned out. The reception venue had a place for Food Truck parking, so we had them bring the truck over, to prepare and serve the guests at our wedding. The food was delicious, and we have heard nothing but rave reviews from the guests that attended the event. Sam provided an awesome buffet line, as well as wood fired pizzas for the main course (cooked on the truck). The buffet included their specialty sandwiches/hummus/veggies/appetizers, so guests could eat some smaller dishes, while they awaited their pizza orders. Our wedding had approximately 130 guests in attendance. With that many people, the main issue we wanted to avoid, was prolonged waiting times for pizzas. Sam’s planning and expertise ensured everything went off without a hitch. I would HIGHLY recommend using them for any/all catering needs! They are the best!

Lancaster Pie King LLC – Menu with Prices – 347 N Plum St, Lancaster

After considering several options, we selected Scarlet Runner to cater my daughter’s wedding reception (150 guests). Two major factors were the quality of the short rib dish, and Hilary. We definitely made the right choice! I’m sure it takes tremendous skill to serve a delicious dinner to 150 people, and the Scarlet Runner staff performed superbly. My dinner of sweet potato soup and short ribs was at a level I would expect of a top-ranked restaurant, and this was at a catered event. Very impressive. In the days following the wedding we’ve had numerous guests offer unsolicited praise for their dinner, questions about who did the catering, etc. I’m just delighted with the performance and results of the the SR staff, they really delivered.
