For how highly everyone spoke about this hotel, I’m extremely underwhelmed. From the second o arrived, I was rudely greeted by the valet Austin. I mentioned this to the manager and she said that she’s had to speak to him about this before and she apologized. Not sure why you’d keep an employee who has to be constantly reminded not to talk down to guests. ? Later, I’m in my room with my balcony door open, and all of a sudden, my room smells like cigarette smoke. Someone on a patio nearby was smoking and that area is “non smoking.” Although, in that persons defense, not one single sign on the patio to tell people that smoking is not acceptable there. I called the front desk and they did address the problem rather quickly. But maybe try putting some “no smoking allowed” signs and you can avoid this in the future. Now to the room. I upgraded to one of the “nicest suites on the property,” or so I was told. The room was huge and beautiful. However, whoever designed this place put these rooms directly below the fitness center. So if you like waking up to the sound of weights dropping, or the thumping of someone running on a treadmill, then this is the room for you. However, if you enjoy your peace and quiet like I do, well, then you’re out of luck. Be prepared to wake up at 5-6am every morning to loud bangs! When I brought this up at checkout, the woman at the front desk mentioned that she has heard complaints before. Maybe it’s time to move your gym. People don’t like paying for the “nicest” suite in the hotel, to feel like theyre staying in the middle of a thunderstorm. Who woulda thunk it? the worst part, no restitution was offered. Not a discount, not any extra points, not a drink voucher. I probably would honor have taken it anyway since I probably won’t stay here again, but it would have been nice to offer. Too bad! Thought this would finally be the hotel for me when I come to Boise for work. Looks like the search continues

Allentown Park Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection Menu with Prices 7471 Keebler Way, Allentown

Poor service, do not stay here, ever! Arrived at the hotel 930pm. Assigned room on 5th floor. Was unable to open room door as it was jammed. Returned to lobby and waited 10 minutes for clerk to return to open room door, which he knew was difficult to open, but never told me. Entered room and immediately knew it was a smoking room from smell, even though I booked non-smoking room. Tried to call front desk from room, but phone did not work. Called front desk and clerk i said to wait and he would be up with new key & room. Waited in hallway 22 minutes before calling front desk again and another 10 minutes before clerk arrived with new key. New room was also a smoking room as it was right across the hall, which I am sure the clerk knew, but tried to get us to stay in that room anyway. When told this was unacceptable again due to health reasons, was told by clerk to go to 3rd floor to wait for new room. 10 minutes of waiting, we were given a room with only 1 bed (instead of 2 as reserved). At this point I was so frustrated that I accepted the room and had to sleep on the couch. The next morning, I related my experience to the manager, who apologized and said he would look into it. This was just lip service since he did not ask for my name or room number, so he could not possibly look into it. Again, there any many hotels in the area, choose somewhere else to stay!

Hilton Garden Inn Colorado Springs Airport – Menu with Prices – 2035 Aerotech Dr, Colorado Springs

*Update to review* I had a very productive conversation with one of the mangers who has purview over customer relations. She addressed my concerns, as voiced below, and very politely apologized for the experience. Additionally, without making an excuse, she explained some of the circumstances that led to everything happening the way it did. I was and am very impressed with the response! Similarly, I am convinced that my experience at this hotel was a freak experience or the perfect storm. Knowing the caliber of management they have at this hotel and how they conduct business, I would stay at this hotel again. ________________________________________________________ My worst stay at a Hilton property yet! First and foremost, the property itself is very nice. The staff at the bar, in the kitchen, and the maid staff were extremely friendly and professional. The issue I had was with the front desk staff and their handling of select other guests that were staying at the hotel. During the first two nights of my stay, there was a junior softball tournament in town and a few of the teams were also staring at the Hilton Garden Inn by the airport. From the sounds of it, I had a couple of 12-year olds in the room directly above me. Between the running back and forth, jumping off the bed, and occasional loud yelling, it was difficult to get to sleep at night or stay awake in the morning. I contacted the front desk two different occasions and was told that a staff member would address the issue. Thankfully, most of the teams check-out out on Sunday morning. Sunday night I actually had a restful nights’ sleep without any loud noises coming from the upstairs room. Monday night I was not so fortunate… Monday afternoon/early evening an elderly man checked into the room next to mine. When I returned to the hotel after dinner the TV in the next room was blaring and the smell of cigarette smoke was strong in my room with had an adjoining door to the next room. Once again I contacted the front desk to raise their attention to the blaring TV and the person smoking cigarettes next door. It took 45 minutes to an hour before the TV was turned down. The next morning I had to fly out early. I was awakened by the loud TV once again, before my alarm, and the extremely strong smell of cigarettes once again. Thankfully I was checking out that morning. I brought the issue up again to the front desk attendant who nonchalantly said “I’m sorry about that” and proceeded to wish me a good day. Between the inability to handle the other guests and one employee saying that a Hilton hotel didn’t accept Hilton gift cards, I was left with the impression that the front desk staff were incompetent and unhelpful. From my previous stays at Hilton properties, I know this is the exception and not the rule. But I will not stay at this specific Hilton property ever again!

Curtiss Hotel – Menu with Prices – 210 Franklin St, Buffalo

Very pretty hotel but…checked in very late on Friday night and the hotel was party city with large groups of people all over. Got to my room on the second floor, crawled into bed exhausted only to find loud party goers in the hall till nearly 5 am. I could also hear every conversation through the walls from my neighbors, loud music from other rooms and babies crying. Am I in Motel 6?? On my last night someone ran up and down the halls at midnight screaming and crying. What the heck. I just want to ad that although my room was “pretty” there was not a comfortable chair in the room. There was a hard chair at the desk in front of the tv, a hard stool in front of the vanity in the bathroom and other than the bed there was not a soft comfortable chair in the room. So if you wish to read it’s the bed or nothing. It would be better to have a comfortable reading chair and ottoman in a corner of the room in which to read or relax. So for me, as I said, it’s a pretty hotel but it needs a lot of upgrades for the ratings it has. Because of the expense to stay here my traveling companions chose to stay in another hotel a block away. Honestly, their room was very user friendly and comfortable. But you make your own choice and gather your own opinions. I just know I will never stay here again.

Chateau Avalon – Menu with Prices – 701 Village West Pkwy, Kansas City

This was the only place I could get a room when I had to come into town last minute. It was essentially a Motel 6 with theme rooms, except I think the Motel 6 would be nicer. The front steps are annoying to go up when you have luggage and there is no ramp or obvious signs pointing you to an alternative option. The stairs are also crumbling in parts and need to be repaired. The rooms are themed, but there are none of the things you come to expect in any hotel or motel…no coffee pot, no iron, no dresser, no clock. The rooms look, if not dirty, at least warn down. The caulk on the tub is cracked all over, the walls are dinged and need repainting, the bathroom is a sink and a toilet and you have a jet tub (nobody wants to get in a jet tub in a hotel room that looks dirty) with a shower head next to your bed as your bathing options. Then, the bar was right next to my room and it wasn’t loud because no one was there, but it smelled like dirty bar mats–for those of you who have ever worked in a bar or restaurant, you know what I’m talking about. The only thing that was loud was the music they pipe in all day outside the hotel that you can hear through the windows. So no napping. And then at 11 at night when it was still playing, I tried to call the front desk from my room, no answer. Called the external line from the room phone, no answer. Called the external line from my cell phone, no answer. Called again, no answer. Put on my shoes with my pajamas and walked to the front desk where someone was there to ask them about the music which apparently they forgot to turn off. They did not receive my calls they said. So as one of the other reviewers mentioned, the room phones don’t work. Seriously. I really could not have been less impressed by this place, and my expectations weren’t high as I just needed a bed to stay in for a last minute trip. I can’t imagine how annoyed I would have been if I had paid full price or planned to go here for a special occasion. Save your money and stay somewhere else. Truly, anywhere else would be better.

**UPDATE 6/28/19** The shitty response I expected from a shitty hotel. I still can’t believe my husband and I paid $200 to stay in this piece of dump on a Saturday night. We were supposed to stay 3 nights but ended up checking out after just 1 night. Everything from check in to our room was awful. We arrived at 5:10pm and the clueless lady at the front desk told us they were completely booked and our room was not ready. When we asked her when it would be ready she told us she doesn’t know that it could be 30 minutes or an hour. She took down our number and told us she would call us when our room was ready. My husband and I went upstairs and he was so upset he said he wanted to come talk to the lady about our room not being ready. To our surprise we went back downstairs and asked another front desk lady, Lauren about our room. She told us our room had been ready and checked us in. We went upstairs to our ‘non smoking’ room on the 15th floor which turned out to be a smoking room they tried to cover up with cleaning products and spray. We called downstairs and they checked us into another room on the 7th floor. This room was better but never mind that the hotel is old, smelly and dingy. We even had blood stain on our lamp shade and spots on the wallpaper in the bathroom. Visitors beware DON’T stay in this piece of dump! The service is nonexistent and the building is very poorly maintained. Take yourself across the river to Margaritaville instead. I feel like we got completely ripped off by this super shitty place. STAY AWAY!!!

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Modesto – Menu with Prices – 1150 9th St, Modesto

The worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. They allow smoking directly in the pool and spa recreation area. We stayed on the 9th floor and the smoke made it up to our room despite having the windows closed (they leaked, seals are worn). I escalated my concern and the staff sent a maintenance worker up to my room for a consult. The maintenance man was very empathetic and he listened very carefully to what I explained to him. He offered to tape up the window frame to prevent the smoke from coming in, which actually helped to mitigate the smoke issue. Front office manager “Tammie” sent an apology card to the room along with some vouchers for free breakfast and removal of valet parking charges to help make up for the negative experience. Unfortunately, she didn’t state what she planned to do to resolve the issue long term for future guests. Second issue I had was with an alarm in the adjoining room that kept running for extended periods during the day and at 6:20am on Saturday morning. I called the front desk to report the issue and they sent someone up very quickly to check it out both times. After knocks on the door and multiple phone calls on Saturday morning, the alarm finally stopped running after an additional 20 minutes. I stopped by the front desk later in the morning and asked Johannes to please see if the manager could talk with that guest during the day to see if he could refrain from letting the alarm run continuously unattended. I also stopped by the front desk again at 10:30pm before retiring for the evening and asked a female clerk to confirm that the manager talked with the guest next door to me. What I received was a major attitude from the clerk, with her stating they couldn’t do anything, that it was my problem, and if I wanted to change rooms, they could see if that option was available. So it turns out that I was the problem, and ensuring the comfort of my stay was not important or considered. I headed up to my room with my wife, and we got to enjoy loud talking and noise from the television from the same problem room next door. We didn’t bother calling down to report it to the front desk because we already knew they didn’t care that we weren’t able to sleep properly for the past few nights due to noise issues related to that room. There is a door between both rooms and lots of sound was coming through, and despite taping up the gaps along the door, we were still able to hear the folks next door all night. The TV was never turned off, as we heard it all night long and into the morning. We’ve stayed at DoubleTree hotels in Del Mar and in Universal City and we never had problems like we had during our four day stay here. I will be calling the head office this week to make sure that they are aware of how terrible this hotel is being managed. It is such a shame to be treated so badly. If I wanted this level of service, I could have just stayed at Travel Lodge or Motel 6. Do not consider staying at this poor excuse of a hotel.

The Admiral Hotel Mobile, Curio Collection by Hilton – Menu with Prices – 251 Government St, Mobile

I absolutely adore this hotel – from the staff to the rooms, everything! This is a gorgeous boutique hotel with the luxuries expected from it being under the Hilton Curio brand. ROOMS: Lavishly decorated and unique. You will not want to get up out of bed in the mornings because the beds are so comfy. The television was a little small for the room, but definitely not an issue for us at all. I loved the bathroom set up – a dressing area outside of the bathroom – two separate doors. Great water pressure. The bathroom did not have a fan though so I steamed it up pretty good with my long hot showers! I loved everything about this room. PARKING: Do the valet parking! It is super convenient. They have self-parking too, but the valet folks are so helpful and it made check-in and check-out super easy. GROUNDS/LOCATION: The pool area is so neat! It is a little oasis in the midst of the city. It has a retro look to it. STAFF: They were so nice! The valet made things easy – he unloaded my car for me and took my things inside. The front desk was super helpful and cheery. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs, which was refreshing! CONS: We had a great view from our room, BUT, the window had some sort of seam failure (fogging within the glass – see picture) so we could only see out of it if we stood on our tip-toes. Other people have mentioned the HVAC unit being loud. To address that: it /is/ an older boutique hotel – built in the late 1930s – so there are some quirks to the place. The HVAC units might not have been original to the building? They are in their own closets so instead of just hearing the air like you might in a newer hotel, you hear more of the process, as you would in your own home. The main thing that people might not like is the noise change from hearing it on to when it shuts off. I changed it to where the fan was set to on the whole time so it was just running and we didn’t even notice it. I do not think either of these things are dealbreakers whatsoever. TIP: Try to get a room on an upper floor so you can wake up to a great view of that skyline! I definitely recommend staying here!!

Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel – Menu with Prices – 401 Chestnut St, Philadelphia

No words can really describe how much I loved this hotel. Everything about my stay was perfect and let me tell you a little bit about this lovely hotel. I arrived at 9 am after taking a redeye from San Francisco. I didn’t sleep a wink on the plane and was beyond tired. I call in advance to see if I could get a hotel room early, but they made no promises, which I understood. When I arrived at about 9:15 am, they miraculously found me a room and I could have hugged the front desk staff for working so hard to make this happen. I was so tired I was nearly delirious but mainly so thankful to have a room to rest in. When I walked into my room, I fell in love. My room was HUGE and beautifully decorated in perfect Philly decor. I took a quick and relaxing bath and hopped right into my comfy bed. My room was a bit hot, but I didn’t care, I needed sleep. After waking up, the room was still hot. I called the front desk, and they mentioned there was an issue with the AC and they were working on it. Since they had colder rooms available, they switched me right away. The staff was so kind, they helped me move my things and made sure I was comfortable. I’m not used to this level of attention, but it was greatly appreciated. Even on the first floor, my room had an ideal view and I made sure to open my curtains every day to see was was going on in Old City. My stay here was perfect. I loved that this wasn’t a cookie-cutter hotel and it has Philly style incorporated into everything. This hotel has a great vibe and so many people commented on how much they enjoyed the decor. Shout out to my favorite people, Colin, Tim and Marcus. You guys are rock-stars and I appreciate everything you did make my stay and conference perfect. We couldn’t have done it without you and you were the VERY best people to work with. The front desk staff very kindly dealt with me losing my key three times (sorry about that) and they offered meal/dining suggestions in the area. Their knowledge and insights were greatly appreciated. The location of this hotel is ideal, you can walk to restaurants and shops as well as the Liberty Bell. There is no need for taxis/Uber and it is easy to navigate this area. I highly recommend you explore, there are so many great things to see and do. If you are coming to visit Philly, STAY HERE. You will love it!

Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort – Menu with Prices – 505 N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

We arrived at this hotel earlier than check in time so we knew we were going to be waiting for a little bit (keep in mind this was about 11:30 am) we go up to the front desk to check and they say that the guests before us just left and that the hotel room would be ready as soon as it was cleaned (which takes about 30 minutes to a hour) keep in mind we have a suite and there is a main area and another separate bedroom area. So all 6 of us have been waiting in the little sitting area for about a hour and a half (1 pm) the rooms should be done by now since at most they could take a hour to clean. So we go to the front desk and ask if the room is ready, they say no it is still being cleaned. At that point we knew they were just lying to our faces. We waited a total of 4 hours and 30 minutes for them to clean a room that I alone could have cleaned in 30 minutes. We got into the room at about 4:30 pm and found out that we wasted our whole day in Fort Lauderdale waiting for this hotel room. When we got to the room there were only 3 towels, no extra blankets, pillows, or sheets for the fold out couch. The hotel staff is full of lies, making us think that it would just be another few minutes when really it was hours. Awful experience at this hotel, for a hotel that cost 560$ we only got the resort fee back for all that happened to us today which was 36$! And a free breakfast, donâ??t forget about the free breakfast. I would rate this hotel a -15 if I could. Lots of other waiting, calling, complaining, and overall problems happened that day with the hotel but were taken out of the story to make it shorter.

Holiday Inn & Suites Oklahoma City North – Menu with Prices – 6200 N Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City

This place is a disaster. The design of the hotel is an old layout with all rooms facing into a giant lobby. Our room was on the 3rd (top) floor but EVERY SINGLE NOISE from the hotel bar/ restaurant down below was magnified somehow to where it sounded like it was literally right outside our door. I noticed this first at 11:30pm where I could understand a conversation completely between two guys-I thought they were in the room next to me but when I opened our door I found it was happening at the bar 3 floors below. Then at 6:30 am we received an un-requested automatic telephone wake up call (yay!). From that point on I noticed I could hear everything going on at the restaurant below- people scooping ice, quiet conversations welcoming guests to breakfast, dishes being loaded into buckets etc. It was ridiculous. There was lobby music playing too which you could clearly hear while trying to sleep. Only thing that helped was putting a pillow over my head lol. Oh, and the AC in the room-when that baby started up it sounded like a gasoline powered leaf blower-freaking awesome! Normally I wake up before 6 but due to other circumstances we had stayed up late-all this noise was definitely unwelcome. Anyway- this was a last minute Priceline purchase for an unplanned trip to OKC and we should have stayed elsewhere. Positives- bed was comfortable. Shower water pressure was good. Outlets on both sides of bed. Front desk service was nice. Location close enough to where we needed to go. Other than that I would definitely avoid.

Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard – Menu with Prices – 1001 Intrepid Ave, Philadelphia

This hotel hit all the bases, with deficiency in none. The room was nice: spacious, modern, and clean. Great bed. Great views. Great television. And, the air conditioner quietly blew ice cold air. Next is the cleaning staff: courteous, attentive, and effective. And most important, the front desk staff. I am a frequent traveler and in my experience, the single most important feature of a hotel visit is the front desk staff. The front desk staff here was committed to being nice and hospitable: in essence, being a feature of my visit which made me relaxed and comfortable, as much as the comfortable couch in the room with an integrated side-table or the channel list for the television placed on the capacious dual-level desk. That kind of commitment in a hotel staff takes work, and I appreciate that work from the front desk staff at this hotel. I had several requests for the staff–admittedly, I was a slightly more onerous guest than most–and the front desk staff took each request as an opportunity to make my stay better: more pleasant, more helpful, and more relaxing. Most appreciated. There are other niceties I’d like to mention: the view of the sports stadiums, the taught leather ottoman that doubled well as a coffee table, the Bistro (and the staff there too). The Bistro was reasonably priced, with prompt service. (Here, though there is no room service, you can call the Bistro, place your order, and have the Bistro call your room when your order is ready–an innovative touch.) The snacks and drinks (including beer and wine) available next to the front desk. The exceedingly comfortable chairs next to the front desk, which made any unavoidable waiting unavoidably pleasant. But, mostly the staff: I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate the front desk staff’s willingness to accommodate rather than (as some hotel staff will do) question my various requests. Sometimes–actually, oftentimes–a traveler (and especially a business traveler such as me) simply needs certain accommodations, and the traveler will reluctantly but politely request such accommodations. The way a hotel responds to such requests determines the character of that hotel, and the way this hotel responded to my requests proves that its character is strong. I wish this hotel the best success. One final note: regarding the difficulty in driving to the hotel during sports events mentioned in previous reviews: yes, it can be an issue. Although I did not experience the exit off 95 being closed, I did experience the road into the Navy Yard being blocked by a security guard and a orange traffic cone. This prompted me to turn around. When I could find no alternative way to reach the hotel, I drove up to the guard to ask for direction. It turned out that the guard was just waiting for me to drive up, and he ushered me through the gate to the hotel. So, don’t be confused if you see the guard at the Navy Yard gate. He’s there presumably to prevent fans from parking in the wrong parking lots; you’re welcome to pass through to the hotel.

Indianapolis Marriott Downtown – Menu with Prices – 350 W Maryland St, Indianapolis

The Good: Location is convenient. Walking distance downtown, there are lots of food and bar choices, Mass Ave food and drinks, Fountain Sq. food and drinks, the Cultural Trail, IN government, monuments, the canal, State Museum, Eiteljorg museum, and the Zoo. The Bad: It’s hot as sweaty balls in the middle of July in Indiana. The Marriott Downtown is expensive. Rate, the food, and anything you buy within the hotel. $2.43 USD for a 2 pack of 100 mg Advil gel caps. $4.09 for a 16 oz Pepsi bottle. Pro Tip: Walk 10 mins to the mall and stock up on supplies. Pepsi and bottled water are $1.50. The Ugly: Is a long story… I don’t typically stay at the Marriott, but for some reason my professional organization has an arrangement with them. My big complaint this stay is the gross miscommunication I have experienced with this staff. Part 1 – Day 1 check in around 7pm. Stay paid for by company credit card. Go out for dinner, come back to my room and I have a VM from the front desk that says my company credit card was declined. I call and to find out what’s up but the girl I talk to sounds unsure and says I should definitely resolve this by checkout. Okay fine. Just to be sure I go down to the front desk to get some clarification. They don’t know what is wrong, the cc just declined authorization, even thought I have a printout of the authorization form, they say oh this is not the form we use, you’ll need to submit a new one. But its an official Marriott form, so wtf… let me talk to the manager, okay we don’t know, just send us a new cc authorization, I can’t do this, its a company card you need to talk to my office admin here is the contact info. I ask him what happens if we don’t resolve this tonight, he says its okay this should be fine we will resolve it before checkout. I also email my office admin with the hotel manager’s contact info so that she can reach out to them… Day 2, I run upstairs at the conference lunch break 12pm EST and 9 am PST, and lo… I’m locked out of my room. SO back at the front desk, they’re like ya… your credit card declined so we can’t let you into the room. No one contacted my admin, they don’t have her information, and my admin hadn’t been able to get a hold of the manager yet cuz she’s on the Pacific Coast… The manager still doesn’t know what’s wrong. The card went through for my boss’s room but not mine. I’m pissed and embarrassed. Front desk and manager are not helpful. I’m like well what happens if this isn’t resolved by today? Can I get my stuff out of the room? I cannot do anything to resolve this and you have to talk to my admin… and I still need to get into the room. Okay we will send a security person up to let you in the room to organize your stuff while we wait. 30 mins later, no one shows up. I go back to the front desk. Still not helpful. In the end my boss had to call our purchasing department to figure it out. Marriott was using the wrong expiration date. They had the card info in writing… as well as the credit authorization… so with barely an apology from the manager I get access to my room 2 hours later. Everyone at the front desk seems new and unfamiliar with how things work. Part 2 – Day 2 : I wake up with a REALLY bad headache. I usually get a little headache because A/C doesn’t agree with me but this is BAD. I think okay, remember to turn the A/C all the way off tonight. Day 2/3: 3am. I wake up with a head splitting headache. Anvils and hammers are squishing my brain. I have the A/C completely turned off. Nothing is open I have no Advil. Day 3: I’m out of commission or most of the morning after I pay almost 3 dollars for 2 Advil gel caps. I start feeling better around 11 am and I go down to the front desk to ask if they can check on anything in my room. I tell them it might be a ventilation issue and that I am sensitive to mol
