I took the family out to the Blue Mule for lunch the other day. I wasn’t too sure what to expect because when I saw them building it, I thought it was a sporting goods store. While I was a little disappointed when I found out it was a restaurant, that feeling didn’t last once I tasted the food! We were greeted at the door by two helpful and friendly employees who told us all about the food and restaurant, then took our order. The restaurant could be described as BBQ restaurant, but they talk about its selections more as campfire cooking. They do a good job of being extremely family friendly without being while not being what you might think of as a kiddie restaurant. Family friendliness seems to be a company value rather than a sales gimmick. There is plenty of seating, both indoors and out, with booths and tables. There is room for larger groups and it would have to be extremely busy before you would have to wait for a table. So, don’t steer clear just because it’s a busy time of day or there are a bunch of cars in the parking lot. We settled on a few items from the Smokehouse Express portion of the menu. I had the Chicken Sandwich with sides of Veggies and Mac and Cheese, while my wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with sides of Beans and Potato Salad. To drink there was a refrigerator with a selection of mini beers a fountain drink station featuring Pepsi products, tea and juices were also available. While we waited my daughter really enjoyed snacking on the packets Goldfish Crackers that were provided free at each table. The food arrived relatively quickly. Both of the sandwiches were heaped with delicious meat and the sides we reasonably portioned and tasty. After lunch we enjoyed burning a few calories outside on the playground. I’m not sure if this playground is part of the restaurant or the property, because it’s in a common area of the building. It’s not a playground with traditional equipment, there are several different pieces of equipment to ride on and there is a thick squishy rubber floor in case of falls. Overall we were very impressed with the restaurant and will definitely be going back. I think next time we have all the family from out of town come in it would be a good place to take everybody for good food and a place for the kids to play. I recommend giving the Blue Mule a try, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Gorditas Dona Tota – Menu with Prices – 123 Old Port Isabel Rd #1-2, Brownsville

This place is pretty delicious. They have many different flavors to choose from and the restaurant itself has a modern feel to it. I usually get the combo de la casa I believe it’s called, which comes with 1 gordita with beans and cheese and 2 gorditas of your choice. It also comes with a drink and a side, but I have found that their sides are not too great. They only offer rice and fideo as their sides and they’re both very underwhelming, especially the rice which is kept in a Tupperware container that looks like someone’s lunch. The workers here sometimes seem as if they hate their job often dragging their feet and aggressively handling equipment and food as if they are annoyed that they have to make it for you. All in all this place is delicious because of the gorditas, but their sides suck and there is a chance you’ll get bad service

Mother Clucker – Menu with Prices – 1707 Locust St, Kansas City

I love this concept! There’s several restaurants inside the 2-story building. Seating is all around, and it’s seat yourself. We went around 6pm on a Saturday, and while it was busy, none of the lines were more than 5 people deep. Some places didn’t have lines at all. We wandered around to look at all the menus. There’s a good variety: pizza (that looked incredible), hot fried chicken, Korean, Japanese, Mexican fusion, sliders, sandwiches, etc. I decided on Sura, which was the Korean place. I’ve been really enjoying Bibimbap in general lately so that’s what I ordered from Sura, beef bibimbap. It didn’t take but maybe 10 minutes for my food to be ready. They take your phone number and text you when it’s ready. I grabbed some gochujang and what I think was sesame oil and found a table. My food was really good! The pieces of beef were pretty large and everything was seasoned really well. I really enjoyed the gochujang and oil being mixed in. Mine was $12 I think and well worth it. It was a ton of food! My husband went to the slider place, Buns Up. He got the 4 sliders and loaded tator tots. For the sliders, he got the midwestern, the classic, and the 2 black & blue sliders. He says the beef was good quality. The buns were nice, and the condiments were good. The slider with blue cheese had an entire slice of blue cheese. He liked it a lot because crumbles would have fallen off the burger but the slice didn’t because it melted to the burger. The tator tots was a large portion with nacho-type cheese, some sort of secret sauce and caramelized onions. This could have been a meal by itself. I had a little bit of this and really enjoyed it. There are bars throughout the place that have the same drink menu. My husband got a Tessellation IPA which was really citrusy. It was $6.50, which is a little pricey but could be worse. Overall, we will be coming back because we really enjoyed the food and there’s still several other restaurants we haven’t tried. Plus it is extremely close to CrossroadsKC which is usually our reason for coming to Kansas City in the first place. Definitely recommend!

The Fried Turkey Sandwich Shop – Menu with Prices – 132 Person St, Fayetteville

We decided to give them a try for lunch and it was outstanding. I had the buffalo turkey wrap with fried okra and kids the grilled cheese with seasoned fries. All enjoyed the food. The establishment is a bit small for the crowd there. The place was busy, but not too packed for lunch. Very friendly staff. VERY. large sandwich selection. Everything here is fresh well prepared. The fried okra is a must. I am not a huge fan of turkey or even sandwiches, but this place is the exception — all of their sandwiches are great and I think they have the best fried okra of anywhere.

Doug’s Bar B Q Menu with Prices 3313 Georgia St S, Amarillo

The food is great but my favorite part of Doug’s is the employees and owners. Oh, and the beans. I love their beans. The first time I ever went to Doug’s I liked the beans so much I got a side order to take home with me and eat later the next day. Now I order them every time. They have great specials and I usually order one since I’m on a budget. I usually get a sandwich, once I tried a rib on the side and I have had their Frito pie. Everything has been good. The people behind the counter are always super friendly and helpful and flexible about what you order. For instance, I don’t usually order a drink but I like their sides so twice they suggested I could trade the drink for a side on their sandwich special. That works great for me. I’d much rather have potato salad and beans or whatever I choose than to have a soft drink or tea. They seem to bend over backwards to help their customers. That’s great customer service. The building itself can be a little hard to spot, especially if you’re coming from the south. The big building next door on 34th kind of overshadows their little building. It was kind of rude of whoever built the bigger building. But once you know where it is, it isn’t that hard to find.

Health Nut Cafe (Jim Thorpe Building) – Menu with Prices – 2101 N Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City

Rating based on the lunch counter aspect of this place. This restaurant is tucked away in the basement of the Jim Thorpe building, southwest of the Oklahoma State Capitol. It is in the style of a canteen, which probably does not elicit great thoughts in your mind. However, this restaurant is simply tasty. It has sandwiches and wraps, plenty of which are savory and tasty but really the theme here is healthful, responsible choices. That is not something you might expect in the bottom of the state building in Oklahoma. (Wild caught salmon melt? Helloooo???) Some wraps are served cold while they also have wraps in the form of a melt, which is served hot from a sandwich press. The owner might be the nicest human being on the planet as well. I enjoyed coming here. In fact, I often show up before my scheduled afternoon time just eat lunch here. This place is worth a visit whether you are in the Jim Thorpe building, or if you are in a surrounding buildings

Jack’s Bar-B-Q – Menu with Prices – 1301 N Market St, Shreveport

I had high hopes for Jackâ??s. I went for lunch during the week. The parking lot was full which further increased my excitement at hopefully finding an amazing local restaurant. I was sadly disappointed. I ordered a brisket sandwich and added the combo deal including 2 sides and a drink. They told me they were out of brisket then decided to look in the back for more. They found some and gave me my sandwich. It was a bunch of fat with very little meat. It actually nauseated me looking at it. There was almost no flavor to the sandwich, the sides nor the sauce. I am not sure now why so many people love it. I will not be back.

Matinee Cafe – Menu with Prices – 700 N St Mary’s St #150, San Antonio

This large space on the first floor of a downtown office building doesn’t really stand out. The table cloths make it seem more formal than it really is, but the menu provides a good selection of breakfast options and sandwiches for lunch. I had the “main attraction” turkey sandwich with pepperjack cheese and their homemade potato chips. While the sandwich wasn’t really anything super special (it didn’t seem like they made their own bread) it was tasty, and well made. The homemade chips were some of the best I’ve had anywhere. I took a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake to go. The coffee was pretty standard fare, as was the cheesecake, which came out of a box. The wait staff and owner were very friendly and service oriented. Overall this place isn’t likely to knock your socks off, but it’s extremely affordable, consistent and quick if you find yourself downtown around lunchtime.

Tony’s Chicago Beef Company – Menu with Prices – 6569 Superior Ave, Sarasota

We had lunch at Tonyâ??s on our way back from the beach today. We had driven past Tonyâ??s before and saw a big crowd enjoying lunch. We got two of the signature beef sandwiches with broth (much like a French dip), an order of fries, and a draft beer for under $20.The sandwiches had lots of really tender â??realâ? roast beef with a unique flavor , but delicious. The French fries were hand cut, fresh hot potatoes with the skin still on the potato. They were excellent! The atmosphere is uniquely Florida. Walk up to the outdoor bar; order your food and beverages, and sit on a concrete table in front of the building. But it was a cool experience. No, it is not a white table clothe restaurant. It is just really good food, at a really good price.Hint: get the signature beef sandwich with sauce, but be hungry! We will return.

Super Star Donuts – Menu with Prices – 1050 Kendall Dr # B, San Bernardino

We came here last week because of the great reviews on Yelp! We tried 2 of their breakfast sandwiches and 1 of the regular lunch sub sandwiches. I had the everything bagel with bacon, ham, over easy egg and cheese. I added Avocados as well. The sandwich was perfect! The yolk was runny, the bagel was fresh. Next time I’ll save half for lunch. I also had a large hot coffee and even that was good! My buddies also enjoyed their sandwiches one was the egg, turkey, jalapeno with cheese on a croissant. The other sandwich was a sub with ham and turkey I believe. They really loved their sandwiches and told me what a great find on Yelp! The service was AMAZING! Very friendly. The manager offered us a free refill on my coffee as well as on an iced coffee that my buddy had. Once the rush was over she came over and said hi to us as well us bring us free donut holes which we loved! Keep up the great work! We’ll be back very soon.

Luminary Distilling – Menu with Prices – 8270 Peach St #300, Erie

If you’re looking for a drink this is by far Erie’s best place to go. Luminary distills it’s own vodka and wheat whisky. It also makes its own apple and peach moonshines, and limoncello. You can go in for a sampling or try an assortment of specialty drinks. On my visit I tried a traditional Moscow Mule as well as an Italian Mule made with its limoncello. Both were outstanding! My guest we with a Cranberry Mule and a Mocchatini. They we’re out of this world. The drinks are all craft made. There are no ore-mixes here. Even the ginger beer is locally brewed. Though they don’t sell food, they let you bring it in. And Brooklyn Pizza delivers (which we tried) rather quickly. In all, a great experience and I look forward to going back again.

Mr. Pollo Pensacola – Menu with Prices – 6404 N 9th Ave, Pensacola

My wife and been begging me to go to Mr. Pollo, but i was hesitant because the restaurant that used to be in that building was always gross and in disrepair. I was so surprised whenever I walked in the restaurant. The restaurant had been completely remodeled. The design and cleanliness were both five stars. Now for what most people care about, the food. My wife and I split the chicken combo for two, which include a whole chicken and two sides, and my son got the kids chicken with one side. We definitely could have all shared the chicken combo for two because it was so much food! I normally am not a fan of rotisserie chicken, but I couldn’t stop eating! The two sides we got were mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was some of the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had at a restaurant! We will definitely be back because the food is so incredibly delicious, and also because the family that ran the restaurant was so sweet. I loved the family vibe. Mr. Apollo is definitely a new family favorite

Maranello Cafe – Menu with Prices – 286 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga

A surprisingly-good hole-in-the-wall cafe near the edge of Port Credit. I’ve known about this place for a long time (back when it was called Lino’s), but never had a chance to visit until today, when a colleague at my work suggested we go here for lunch. It’s easy to miss this place, as it initially appears to be part of the same building that Aielli Ristorante is located in. (And I’m still unsure if they’re associated businesses or not). The small door at the front betrays a large cafe with a lot of seating at the back. The layout of the place is a tad odd – there’s only one corridor between the front and back of the cafe, and you have to go past a set of fridges with drinks to get there. Makes for a bit of a problem when it’s busy. I was surprised that I enjoyed their sandwiches as much as I did. Both of us went for the hot sandwiches – they’re all $6 each, and come on Calabrese bread. As other reviews have mentioned, they don’t skimp on these sandwiches. I asked for everything on it and got hot peppers, onions mushrooms and mozzarella. If I have a quirk about the sandwich, it’s that it simply wasn’t hot enough. Maybe that’s just because I’ve had a lot of hot food in the past. It was very tasty, but when I say “everything on it”, I expect them to load the kitchen sink, even the hot sauce. There are also a large number of pastas they serve, and which I will try next time I visit. We did see the original owner, who briefly greeted us before going on her way, and the cashier was very friendly as well. Seems like a really nice family-run(?) establishment. I feel like this is a bit of a hidden gem in Port Credit. I’ve seen it before, but I didn’t know they offered all these options until I stepped foot in the place. I am very likely to return to Maranello’s soon, as the prices are great and the food is very filling.
