I have a tendency to stay away from most restaurants when they first open. 1) To avoid the crowds and 2) Because 90% percent of the time the staff are so overwhelmed that the service lacks and with that, you tend to not get the full experience of the restaurant. With that said, it’s been a few months since 18hundred opened so we decided to swing by for date night. Walking in you get why the restaurant is so popular in Bakersfield right now. You get that trendy vibe that makes any instagramer just foam at the mouth to have the venues countless backgrounds in their pictures. The venue has tall brick walls with beautiful/modern decorations, I believe it use to be a bank . The wooded table tops are paired with these blue and white woven chairs that play on the restaurants theme. Although aesthetically pleasing the restaurant seating is very minimal and with it being a new restaurant the wait time is still fairly long. But enough of the aesthetics. The service started of great. The young hostess was friendly and let us know the wait time. She tried really hard to find us a seat. Offering many options(outside and bar) but we wanted to sit at a regular table so we waited. Once seated we got menus and water. When we got the drinks menu I ordered a IPA,the waiter said they only had 3 of the 7 beers on the menu was kind of disappointed. I decided to just grab a lemonade which was pretty refreshing. I ordered the pastrami burger with a order of the zucchini fries. The burger was once again very instagram worthy. When I picked it up, the bottom bun was already soggy and falling apart which had to of been due to the wet lettuce. As I bit it the pastrami on top was cold and bland which was disappointing because it looked so good. The zucchini fries again cold and tasteless. I mean the breading was crunchy but no flavor. The burger patties where good and the ingredients were fresh. But just the overall flavor was just not there. I gave the place three stars just on aesthetics and how great that hostess was. I hope that the food improves a bit because the venue is great and the environment seems to be what Bakersfield needs. I’ll be swinging by again to give the desserts a try. Hopefully they have a updated beer list by then.

Liberty Bell – Menu with Prices – 142 N Mountain Ave, Ontario

I can’t remember the last time I was here at Liberty Bell, I must have been in high school sooo more than 20 years ago? I don’t know but it was before yelp was invented I’ll tell you that! So my sister and I met up with our cousins here before going to the movies. You know for ordering a liberty burger combo, a colossal burger, larger zucchini and a medium drink all this was for under $30 I would say that’s not a bad deal. Burgers were good and so were the fries, now they did get mine wrong I dislike pickles (with a passion) thankfully thought I was able to remove them without any after taste. Plenty of pastrami on the burger and it’s actually pretty good. Ok this is where the eyebrows starts lifting lol, larger zucchini was a good shareable amount which is the reason I got them plus I wanted to try them. But I would not order them again some were ok other tasted rather funky, I don’t know I’ll just stick to the fries. I don’t drink soda as much so I usually get an iced tea, now I don’t what they gave me but that thing was pretty foul. We both said we wouldn’t mind returning for the burgers and fries and maybe try other things but not those two other ones lol.

Lucky Greek – Menu with Prices – 123 N McKinley St, Corona

I went for the first time today after driving past it alot. The food is a little less than as to be expected in this type of burger/mexican / pastrami/ sandwich place. I ordered 3 chicken tacos, which werent great or terrible. They were over priced at 3.25 each. They had chicken, rajas, onion, and tomato with a spicy green salsa. The salsa was the best part of the soggy tacos. The chicken seemed boiled or something. I also got the pastrami sandwich meal, the pastrami sanwich was as expected, I like that is was light on the bread, but it was pretty soggy. The fries that came with it were exactly what youd expect, but there were only about 1/4 the amount of fries you get at any other similar establishment. The pastrami meal wasnt worth the 10.50 they charged for it, especially since you only get a small fries and medium drink. My order with 3 chicken tacos and a pastrami meal totaled out to 22$ and change. Probably wont be back.

Mr. Big Fish – Menu with Prices – 754 Neapolitan Way, Naples

So let me start by saying that this is a cute restaurant inside. It is in a strip mall but the inside is very nautical and well decorated. I went to lunch with my parents. We’ve been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. We decided to get an appetizer of their fried zucchini sticks and their snapping shrimp. They both had good flavor but neither were outstanding. The zucchini is cut in thick spears and comes with a yummy ranch dressing. The snapping shrimp tasted more like a Chinese type dish. They had good flavor.. . Our server recommended the Butter bathed with rice and vegetables, which were broccoli and zucchini. We also ordered the fried shrimp basket with sweet potato fries and onion rings. The rice and vegetables were pretty standard. The fish was pretty bland, not a lot of flavor and slightly on the dry side. It did come with a butter sauce which it definitely needed. I would not recommend that dish. The Shrimp Basket was okay. However there were only three shrimp in it, two onion rings and a small handful of fries. It was a very small portion. The onion rings were pretty good as well as the sweet potato fries but the shrimp lacked flavor. With all the phenomenal restaurants in Naples, we probably would not go back to this one.

Motley School Tavern – Menu with Prices – 1903 Beaver Ave, Des Moines

Really wanted to love this place but it’s just ok. Atmosphere 3/5: nice and casual but the layouts a bit weird, they seated our party of six at a table that was divided by posts which was weird. We were also seated next to an area where the servers congregated, the result is that their conversation along with the overall “loudness” of the venue made it hard for our group to have conversations without almost shouting. Entrees and apps 2/5: we arrived starving and anticipating a great meal. We started with onion rings and pretzels. The onion rings were nicely flavored but a bit too spicy for some in our party. The pretzels were warm and dipping sauces good but the pretzels were more like Olive garden breadsticks and a bit bland. Then we had the MST burger, double stack burger, chicken fried steak, and the zucchini pasta. Honestly the best part of the entrees were the fries that came with the burgers. If you have eaten at islands in California the fries were just like those. The burgers were a bit weird, they were good but they were tiny in width and very tall. The party was more like a meat ball than a burger. They reminded me of the burgers my mom used to make, the round Patty balls in between white bread. Burgers were just ok. The chicken fried steak was gross honestly, the steak was mealy and almost cold on the inside. Tasted like they fried it while it was frozen. The worst was the zucchini pasta. First, remember that the pasta is not made from zucchini which is he description might infer. Second it was covered in a romesco that was weirdly spiced, it was spicy and minty which was a HORRIBLE combo. Don’t order this. Desserts 5/5: we ordered all of them, and the scotheroos, the donuts and the crumble. All were good but for me the best were the donuts, light and airy with a wonderful dipping sauce. Doubt we will ever be back since it’s far and I only travel for excellent meals not mediocre but I hope they stay in business. Important to note that service was 5/5 they were amazing. They even took the time to ask why we didn’t like the pasta because they noticed it was the only dish we didn’t ask to be boxed up.

Magnolia Kitchen & Bar – Menu with Prices – 1601 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington

I came here with a friend for happy hour and was very disappointed with the service and the way we were treated, thus I don’t recommend going to Magnolia Kitchen & Bar, and I certainly won’t be returning any time soon! We had ordered drinks at the bar, a little before happy hour was going to end. We decided that we also wanted to get food, but there weren’t any spots at the bar, so we went up to the hostess to see if any tables were available so we could be seated and order dinner. The waitress said that a table was available and we said we just had to close our tab out at the bar first and we’d be ready to be seated. We went back to the hostess and she led us over to our table. We literally were about to sit down at the table the hostess led us over to when a guy who works at the restaurant said we couldn’t sit there. Wait, what? The table the hostess at your restaurant led us to and we’re being seated at we can’t sit at? The restaurant worker said it was because we had purchased our drinks at the bar, so he’d be happy to seat us at the table after we finished our drinks. Well that made no sense, so I would have to chug down my drink I just ordered before I can sit at the table I was almost sitting at. It’s not as if I decided to seat myself at the table. We went up the hostess. She knew we had just ordered drinks and was seating us at a table. We had planned to order more drinks and dinner, but that didn’t seem to matter because this guy stated it was unfair to the servers to order a drink at the bar and then be seated at a table. Mind you, this rationale doesn’t take into account the people who decide not to order drinks at all or the fact that the hostess knew we had just ordered drinks and was going to seat us. Furthermore, most restaurants encourage you to go to the bar and get a drink while you’re waiting for your table and I’ve never seen a restaurant not let you bring your drink from the bar to your table or state you have to finish your drink before they’ll seat you. (Also, the difference between the happy hour bar prices and the menu was only like $2). He said he didn’t want to set a precedent that if you ordered your drink at the bar, you could bring it with you to your table. Also, this doesn’t even seem to be a consistent policy among the staff because we literally were being seated at our table by the hostess, no less, when this guy (I don’t know whether he was another host or a manager or what exactly his position was) comes out of nowhere and says we can’t be seated yet until we finish our drinks first. He then proceeded to rudely lecture us. Mind you, it’s not as if we sat at a random open table. We had been lead to the table BY THE HOSTESS! No apology, just more lecturing. Fine, we’ll finish our drinks and go get dinner somewhere else. So then we stand off to the side by the bar to finish our drinks where the guy then proceeds to bump my friend during the multiple times he walked by because there wasn’t enough room to stand near the bar, which is part of the reason why we decided to get a table to order dinner. I can’t comment on the food here because after we never even got to order or try it. (We realized we were a short walk from Lauriol Plaza, so we had a great dinner and service there instead!) So just to prove his point, instead the rude service lost us as customers. He even had the nerve to say at the end of all of this that if he had let us sit there this time, we’d then come back with friends next time and say well we had been seated last time. It was a little presumptuous to think we’d be returning after being so rudely lectured and talked down to. I definitely won’t be going back there anytime soon and I encourage you to avoid this restaurant too until they have some training in basic courtesy and customer service! If the hostess didn’t understand the restaurant&

Perch + Plow – Menu with Prices – 90 Old Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa

We arrived at 630 to a half empty restaurant. We were surprised that when we said we didn’t have reservations the hostess looked at the multiple empty tables some not even set and hesitated told us to wait and then returned saying she would set a table for our party of 4. The attitude was a bit pretentious and unnecessary. We ordered 1 round of signature drinks and sweet potato chips. The waitress said the “drop it like it’s hot” was not spicy hot just had a hint of spice. – it was too spicy for half the table and only one person said it was just ok. The tortuga drink was good but a whole lotta ice in a cute glass and very little alcohol. Drinks overpriced for what you actually get. 3 stars We got two side salads to share at the table. I loved the beet salad, great blend of beets and citrus. This is either a small main or defiantly a share. 5 stars The farm salad was decent but it didn’t stand out. 3 stars Our group ordered the burger, steak, pork chop and the sea bass. The sea bass was a small cut of fish in a really good broth. The parsnips were undercooked, the broth warm not hot, the fish ok- for $26 would not get this again. The best thing was the broth – 2 stars total disappointment by whole table. Burger looked amazing – fries came out warm not hot, house made ketchup was not good. Thankful the ketchup wasn’t put in the burger. The bun was seeded- different. Overall a good burger wish the fries arrived hot. Solid 3 1/2 stars Steak – cooked and season perfectly it was delicious. If you’re craving a steak would not hesitate. 5 stars Pork chop- hands down amazing. Everyone at the table agreed the best dish of the night. Tender, beautifully cooked thick slices – you can defiantly share this. 5 stars Service – for not being busy – the service was slow, our server checked in on us only once at the end of the meal. The person bringing water was attentive but not our server who we had to flag down. Finished plates sat on the table as we waited and waited – once we stacked the plates then someone passed by and offered to clear – again not our server. Service (including the hostess) 1 1/2 stars.

Texas Branding Iron – Menu with Prices – 1805 E Ruben M Torres Blvd Suite 17, Brownsville

Well just got out from eating possibly the worst burger ever. And I’m still hungry. The restaurant is a bit mismatched. The front door has different handles on it, like completely different designedv doors, the outside sign is confusing. It says “Texas Branding Iron Burgers, but everything else on the badging says “Texas Branding Iron Burgers Bikes & Beer”. A bit confusing. The decor is pretty sporadic and the entire dining area looks sparsely furnished so therefore looks empty when there are a few patrons there. There are no real changes to what it was 2 restaurants ago. I remember going to eat at this same location when it was the Mexican restaurant before and the interior and furniture actually looks pretty much the same. Drab and lonely. I went with my wife and we were not greeted as we entered. Actually if I did not know how this restaurant worked I would of probably sat my self and waited for someone to come and greet me a and take my order. I mean if I didn’t know you had to walk up to the register and place your order I would of been sitting there for a while. The registrar should be at the entrance so that the concept could be for-mentioned. I ordered 2 number 1’s which was a quarter pound burger with fries and a drink. When we got the burgers I would say that disappointment is an understatement. The burger was dry and cold, and the cheese was the cheapest cheese you can buy, the equivalent to American accent cheese from HEB. No flavor on the burger means the meat was not seasoned. In addition, the fries were horrible. The looked and tasted like they had been fried and just left out until someone ordered and served them then. BTW Branding Iron you must season the fries as well. When the fries are freshly cooked you must salt them while they are wet so the salt can stick to the fries. They were over cooked, dry, and cold. C’mon how can you screw up French fries for God’s sake. Also, I believe the fries were cooked in old oil. They had an unattractive and unnatural color to them. I think that there are a few things that need to be changed, the most important and I cannot stress this enough get rid of your cook. They have no business being in the kitchen. Get someone that knows what the hell they are doing. Take care of your business before the business takes care of you. P.S. Either mostly all the comments on FB that are positive reviews are friends of the owners of this business and just trying to hype it up or the do not know what good food is.

Klondike Sunset Casino – Menu with Prices – 444 W Sunset Rd, Henderson

Last evening 2/16/2019 my girlfriend and I went to have dinner and enjoy the comedy show Bonkerz. First let me state the comedy show was FANTASTIC. The headliner James “BIGFOOT” Scott was absolutely hilarious, the openers were also very entertaining. THEY GET 5 STARS ! The venue in the Klondike Casino is their restaurant Sarah’s Kitchen. I signed in for the comedy venue, and was advised to sit anywhere. I must have picked the invisible table…….then I realized there were many, many invisible tables. Where I sat was only placemats. I sat for over 45 minutes without anyone asking if I wanted a beverage. Clients noticed that I patiently sat for over almost an hour………No bus person, waiter..NO ONE even as much stopped at the table. Oh by the way they no longer offer club members the Prime Rib Special, it was $5.55 for club card holders, it is now $12.99. That being said after an hour my girlfriend ordered a salad that arrived with NO DRESSING. That fiasco required asking 3 employees for dressing. My burger was undercooked….I ate it because it had taken 40 minutes for the burger and salad to arrive, I was HUNGRY, and may never see my food again. Needless to say, the service was DEPLORABLE, AWFUL, TOTALLY INVISIBLE. Management should have pulled someone over from the bar wait staff. The comedy venue was totally packed. I have made a firm decision to never eat at that property EVER AGAIN. I will attend the BONKERZ comedy venue.

Anchors Away – Menu with Prices – 518 E Capitol Ave, Springfield

My family tried to eat at this restaurant on Saturday night. There were 6 of us and when we arrived we were greeted by the hostess and told we could wait at the bar until a table became available. Reasonable, right? We expected a wait since they don’t take reservations. Some of us sat at the bar, which had only about 10 seats, of which about 7 were already taken. Others stood nearby. All of us were interested in drinks. The bartender was not particularly busy but completely ignored us. It was as if she was going out of her way to not even look at us. She instead chatted up the other patrons and servers. Not wanting to be rude, we didn’t make a show of interrupting her and asking if we could order drinks. After 20 minutes, we gave up and decided that if the customer service was that inattentive at the bar, we didn’t need to spend any money there at all. We told the hostess we no longer needed a table, complained about the bar experience and walked out. We won’t be back. There are too many other good restaurants in Springfield to waste our time there.

Prohibition Gastrohouse Midtown – Menu with Prices – 40 Eglinton Ave E, Toronto

Terrible experience all around. I showed up with a friend after work and when we tried to seat ourselves at a free table when the hostess made no attempt to assist we were rushed very rudely by another hostess outside on the patio. This hostess informed us that we had to be on a wait list and reserve the table at the front so we obliged and went back and politely asked for a table at the back from the hostess. Ironically she reserved the same table we tried to sit at but when we got there other people were already seated (without reserving). The hostess apologized and frantically found us another table on the patio. I was very upset and asked to speak to the manager about the hostess that denied us seating. When I pointed out the hostess she informed that that WAS the manager. I still asked to speak to her and this manager was not apologetic AT ALL and informed us that we need to follow the procedures and that we are still not on the wait list and that we cannot sit at our current table. Incredulous, my friend and I stormed back. Definitely would not recommend this place or ever come back. Ashley was the managerâ??s name. I would like to express my gratitude for the professional hostess who tried to initially help us and the one who listened to my grievances at the end and professionally addressed them (I believe her name was Katerina).

Syb’s West End Deli Menu with Prices 2151 Liberty St, Allentown

When I moved back to PA after 6 years in Florida; I was dying for a Jewish Deli Pastrami sandwich. I went to Sands Casino where I discovered that the Carnegie Deli went out of business 3 months ago. I was not to be denied and pulled out the smart phone and googled best Pastrami sandwich in the Lehigh Valley. Syb’s came up and I called them. I was told their Pastrami was as good or better than Carnegie Deli, so off I went. Here is what happened. After I ordered my sandwich, I saw the the counterman pull out a whole pastrami from the cold cut case. After slicing the pastrami on a slicing machine, I saw him put it in the microwave. After cooking it I saw him put it on a plate which I saw the server pick it up and deliver it to my table. It was horrible. When the women I spoke to on the phone, who I said I was the guy that called you upon my arrival to Syb’s stated that now I have a real deli to come to! I told her I would never come back and that real deli is not microwaved. She got angry and said no one in the Lehigh Valley has a steamer table since the Carnegie Deli closed! It was then that I realized I had to drive and hour and fifteen to Harolds Deli in Edison, NJ to satisfy my deli craving. I have done so a few times since with no regrets. If anyone discovers a deli with a steamer table for Pastrami, Corned Beef, or Brisket – PLEASE let me know! REAL DELI IS NOT MICROWAVED!

Lavery Brewing Co – Menu with Prices – 128 W 12th St, Erie

Irish pub during St Patrick’s weekend! A great atmosphere; good music, intimate feel, and plenty of games to entertain the wait for food. And the wait is indeed worth it…I ordered la cochinita tacos. Although not filled like a traditional taco, this was packed with flavor. Minimal in size, but the meat was tender and juicy. I would recommend this! My daughter tried the Lavery burger, which was cooked to perfection and piled with caramelized onions, an interesting beer cheese, and sauce. She loved this! the food was great…however, the wait staff was not. I do take into consideration it was very busy, however we were not ever acknowledged at the table. Ordering is done at the bar only, which would have been nice to know before our 20 minute wait at the table. No menus were on the table so upon asking for those at the bar, three of us shared the one we were provided. We ordered then at the bar and told the kitchen was ‘backed up’. Understandably, again due to the holiday celebrations. The food came, minus our appetizer, plus an extra burger. The burger was given to it’s rightful owner elsewhere and our appetizer later arrived after we’d finished our meal. Nobody came to offer napkins, beverage refills, or inquire to the enjoyment of the meal itself. Maybe it’s the procedure of this establishment, but I personally like the interaction and table-side service. Upon checkout, a bill was placed on the bar in front of me with no verbal interaction. I paid it and left, again without a verbal exchange. Just seemed a bit cold and distant. So much for the engaging of personal contact…but perhaps I expected too much?!?!?!
