I’ve been here twice so far, I like that they are the only ramen place in town that actually offers kimchi. I personally think kimchi is kind of a given with ramen bowl’s, so it’s nice to see at least one place that carries it. They serve the bowls with sides in separate dishes and the sides are served cold, which i thought was strange. Kimchi I know is served cold, but the eggs and extra meat for example should NOT be served cold. I’m used to all the sides to be put INSIDE the bowl. The reason for this is because the bowls come out hot but after you add all your sides the bowl is lukewarm, which I did not like. Another thing I found rather bizarre is the fact that you only get half an egg. Really? I’ve never been to a ramen place that serves a half instead of a full egg. Can’t be that much more to just include the other half, only reason I can think of doing that is trying to save money. I really wish Japanese places served beer besides beer from Japan, most people these days enjoy craft beer w at least one IPA option, not sure people love Japanese beer that much to have it as the only option. Besides that I can say that the service is stellar, they pay close attention to its patrons and are right there to see to anything you might need.

El Coyote Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 1 W Victory Dr, Savannah

First ramen only bar in Savannah. I was really excited when I first heard about it because there are no dedicated ramen places in the area. Finally I got to try it on a Sunday late afternoon. The place is tiny but they have outdoor patio seating available. They have everything pre-made so basically they just need to put the bowl ingredients together. For the same reason, the service is fast and the people working are friendly. You can create your own bowl but I decided to get their speciality bowl – Chicken Shoyu. It was good, I liked how my broth tasted but there wasn’t enough broth in the bowl. I also got a side of Kimchi, which I decided to put in my bowl and it added more flavor to the broth. My friend got the Pork Tonkotsu but I liked mine better. The tonkotsu broth was lacking flavor. Overall, this place is average but they definitely have the potential to be better.

Ibendoo ramen – Menu with Prices – 3405 Commercial St SE suit 150, Salem

2.5 stars Firstly, I have high expectations for ramen. I am willing to try most places as I would like to support restaurants in the area. However, I am disappointed in the portion sizes compared to the prices. I’m originally from LA, so ramen options are abundant. Ibendoo is lucky they’re basically the only ramen here in Salem. BF and I tried their short rib appetizer. DO NOT ORDER IT. I swear to you it’s only 1 piece of short rib cut into 4-5 pieces, and you have the audacity to charge $6? I legit laughed as soon as the waitress put it on the table cause I could not believe that’s what they serve. I tried their dipping ramen. This is were I am torn, the broth was AMAZING and so flavorful. But, again…the portion sizes of everything is ridiculous for the price. How are you going to give me a paper thin cut of pork belly with my bowl of ramen? Pork belly isn’t that expensive, I feel like you can be a bit more generous with the portions on it. I like corn in my ramen (so, sue me) but $1 for a teaspoon of canned corn? Honestly, you’re better off sneaking in your own ingredients from home to add to your bowl. My BF ordered the Kimchi ramen and I thought it was ok as the kimchi pretty much covered all the flavors of anything else. Overall, I felt underwhelmed and unsatisfied. Not sure if I’m willing to go back to try it again without feeling ripped off. I’d rather drive up to Portland or even wait til I go back to LA for the holidays for some hearty ramen.

Crazy Fish Sushi – Menu with Prices – 11701 San Jose Blvd #23, Jacksonville

This place was great! It’s a small, clean space with super friendly staff. I ordered a lunch special of 2 rolls with salad, that came to just under $10 total. I got the Boston roll and shrimp tempura roll. I thought both were very tasty and the presentation was lovely. I’ve been looking for a reliable place to get my sushi craving, and I really like this new spot. I wish they offered agedashi tofu and beef negimaki (something difficult to find in many sushi places in Jax for some reason). But their offerings are on par with other sushi restaurants, and I feel had a more pleasant environment. Some others I’ve been to are just too dark, or just not as tasty. The salad was a nice size, cold, crisp, and presented nicely. They also offer ramen bowls, poke bowls, and a kid’s menu. I may try a ramen bowl in the future, but I think it’s not pork belly (more the pork loin, and I prefer pork belly) so it’s hard to bring myself to order it. But I may try the shrimp tempura ramen bowl. I will definitely be back for my sushi fix and look forward to trying other dishes! Highly recommend a visit here!

Ampersand Asian Supper Club – Menu with Prices – 940 N High St, Columbus

It was only a matter of time before I came here. I am the Ramen King (Self Proclaimed LOL). I love ramen so much, I once had a dream I was taking a bath in ramen ? …. Well let me get to the review before it gets too weird lol. I heard of Ampersand through my brother, he told me of a new place that just came up in the short. So I decided I had to go give it a test. Walking in, I really liked the interior. I’m a huge fan of natural light. Everything was well lit with big windows. This place also had a traditional Japanese look, with a very modern flair, clean and sleek. And who doesn’t like that? I also like the fact that they had one of those tables that sits low to the floor, like in traditional Japanese places. But I wish they had more than one. Next time ill wait for the table to open! Now when it was time to order I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. One of the basic and classic Ramen bowls you could get. So I normally use this as a baseline on how good a place is. When I got it, the presentation was done really well. It looked and smelled awesome. Now the first rule for me is to taste the broth first, this tells me a lot about how good the bowl is. If the broth is just ok, then the ramen won’t stand out. But the broth was actually pretty good. Nice depth to the flavor. Rich sort of flavor. The noodles had a nice bite, egg was good. But as I was eating my bowl and got about halfway through I noticed something alarming!! They forgot to put my PORK IN THERE! As you can see in the picture attached to this review. There was no pork included. I had to go back up to the counter and ask for my pork. It’s almost as if the guy didn’t believe me because he went to my table and looked at my ramen (that was already half eaten, so he probably really didn’t believe me ), but he got my pork really quickly. And let me tell you. When I added that pork with the nice char on it, into the rest of my ramen. It added a whole new depth of flavor that complemented the broth so well. I really REALLY wish I was given my pork from the beginning. Overall the ramen was pretty good. Having the pork from the start would have boosted it, but since I didnt I can only go off of what I had. The ramen also wasn’t very traditional, in a sense. It’s hard to explain. But this is a fusian place, so not everything will be “traditional”. But it was good nonetheless. Overall I will or sure come back: 1. To try the low table 2. To get the ramen again but with the pork in it from the start lol It’s not a traditional Japanese place. But that’s fine. They are doing their own thing which i like. It helps them build identity and their own brand. I’ll update this review upon further visits, I really want to try more on the menu. PS. Their free Tea is really good. Its has a weird sweet type of flavor thats different. Give it a try.

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka – Menu with Prices – 100 Legacy Dr Ste 110, Plano

First time having Hokkaido Ramen Santouka and it was a great experience! One of my mother’s friend recommended that we go up to Plano to visit one of their favorite ramen places. I don’t really have any plans for summer vacation before school starts again, but maybe I should make visiting the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court more often. Growing up in Dallas, there was a lack of ramen places in general nevertheless a great one. Thankfully my father is half Japanese and half white so he would always make a great bowl of ramen at home. Many things have changed since I was a child and I’m glad Dallas and its surrounding area have places like Santouka available to them. My mother and I visited this past Monday at an off time and had a pleasant experience. It was our first time and the two female employees were friendly. They recommended the salt ramen so that was what I got. I couldn’t help but notice the mentaiko rice bowl on display right next to the cash register so I had to get the combo. Don’t get the large ramen bowl unless you are hungry. I was too greedy and instantly regretted it. The salt ramen itself was delicious. It wasn’t too greasy compared to traditional tonkotsu ramen, but just as flavorful. The broth was perfectly balanced and all the toppings were all great. The chasu slices were thick and delicious. It doesn’t melt in your mouth, but was satisfying. The noodles had a great consistency. I did notice that the noodle strands themselves were pretty short compared to other places so you don’t really need to slurp them. My only gripe about the ramen was the egg. I do prefer the egg not to be hardboiled, but I respect the restaurant’s choice on making it the way they prefer it. However I didn’t think the egg marinated long enough. The marinade in the bowl that came with the egg was flavorful, but the egg itself was a little bland. If the egg was soaked a little longer the bowl of ramen would be perfect. The mentaiko rice bowl was phenomenal! I grew up eating this and not many places offer this dish. Traditionally mentaiko rice bowls are simple and let the ingredients speak for themselves. The one at Santouka has a Japanese style egg salad underneath the mentaiko and it was delicious. I think it takes away from the mentaiko itself because of how rich the egg salad was, but if you ate the two separately with the rice and nori, it was heavenly. The restaurant itself is in a cafeteria area inside Mitsuwa Marketplace and it was clean when I went. I can imagine this place being a nightmare to eat at during the weekends, but for a Monday night, it was clean and empty. Remember to clean up after yourself! Maybe I’m used to the prices of ramen in New York around my university, but $15 for a large bowl of ramen AND a mentaiko rice bowl is a great deal. I would definitely come back and try Santouka’s other offerings.

Koji Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 25403 I-45 ste a, Spring

My daughter decided that she was in the mood for ramen, so we stopped by here as we were in the area. The setting is very nice and comfortable. You can choose a individual table or a large community table. Our waiter was very nice. He described the dishes we asked about and offered suggestions as to the more popular dishes. My daughter got the spicy ramen and I asked for the kimchi ramen. She loved hers. It was a clear soy broth, with a nice flavor. The kimchi ramen is a miso base with kimchi and pork. Both looked beautiful in the bowl. I will say for me that if you have looked at any of my reviews, I tend to be a low salt type person. This to me was very salty. I love miso, but when I make it at home, I can control the levels better. I love the idea of the ramen, but I really did not enjoy it for me due to the saltiness. I will try to make a healthier version at home. Probably not as pretty, authentic or in that type of setting, but something I can control the salt flavor on. As for my daughter, hopefully they do takeout as she loved it.

Playa Bowls Fort Lauderdale – Menu with Prices – 1615 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale

Really tasty Açaí bowls!! I loved stopping by after a beach trip to see the sunrise. The bowls are really huge and you definitely get your money’s worth. I think they’re the perfect size for sharing with someone. They have a ton of options on their menu, which I appreciated. I opted to get a Tide Bowl, which is originally a Banana Bowl but they allowed me to get Açaí as a base instead. Delicious and super refreshing!! The Goji Berries were a little bit overpowering after a while but I’ll just ask them for less next time I come. They have a really cool option to split your base and choose from two if you can’t decide. Perfect for indecisive people like me! You can choose half and half of any of the following bases: Açaí, Pitaya, Green, or Coconut. Additionally, for some bowls, you can switch out your base if you prefer a different one. Overall, a really cool ambiance and delicious, fresh bowls. I look forward to trying their smoothies next time I stop by!

Yummy Express – Menu with Prices – 6441 Yadkin Rd #2166, Fayetteville

I’ll start off with saying I spent a year and a half in Korea eating out almost every day and always trying somewhere new.. so with that said my expectation might be higher because I’ve been searching for that same taste I enjoyed while in Korea. I think I’ve been here twice but I can’t remember the first time and it felt like I had been there before which automatically made me want to leave.. the staff was nice I can say that but my issue comes from the disconnect between food and cost… I spent $40 that day and what I got was Samgyeopsal-gui , and a bowl of ramen… This entailed about 8 small blan pieces of grilled pork belly a bowl of over cooked rice that had a weird taste (I love almost all kinds of rice) a bowl of ramen which was under cooked and poorly flavored.. (anything noodles are my favorite) there was Romain for the grilled pork belly but it was poorly prepared. It was just 5 pieces of extremely long leafs that looked like they were just ripped off and neatly stacked on a plate. The traditional way of eating the grilled pork belly is the leaf with one or two pieces of meat some rice and kimchi and pretty much whatever on the table that you would like to add put on top of this palm sized leaf. The leaf I got from here was so large in comparison that using 1 piece of meat some rice kimchi and sprouts I used two leafs that I had to tear apart multiple times and couldn’t even use half of the leaf. And the bowl of ramen wasn’t a lot at all like one bag of the Nissan ramen at Walmart you get for 50 cents, no it wasn’t those noodles they tasted like they had potential they were just handled with out care to how much they charge customers for the disappointment.. Now compare that to when I was in Korea, I would have spent $10 for all you can eat grilled pork belly that I cook, and a bowl of ramen at that size cooked wonderfully would have been about 4 bucks maybe cheaper depending on where I went. Who ever owns this store, I’m sorry for the bad review, please get back to the roots of taking pride in what you are selling.. when I was in Korea I got a huge bowl of Jjajangmyeon for 8 bucks by a man who spent $20,000 at a school just to learn the art behind the dish. Literally it was only for that dish now he runs a Jjajangmyeon shop. It was the best I’ve ever had

Kuma Japanese Ramen & Sushi – Menu with Prices – 3405 Battlefield Rd Suite 124, Springfield

Tried this place for the first time after driving by it so multiple times. We had the snowing mountain crab sushi roll and crab Rangoon as appetizers which were ok. For entree I had poke bowl with tuna , my hubby had chashu ramen. I have tried a lot of poke bowls all over the US so my review maybe biased as I will compare to some of the best I have had at various places. For Springfield this is a pretty good option. I wish they offered more than just 3 free toppings for poke and srichacha on the table. Mind you they charge for srichacha if that’s your third sauce option which I feel is unacceptable for any Asian restaurant. That should be offered free just like salt and pepper. If you ever had poke on either of the coasts this wouldn’t necessarily wow you but pretty good try for first timers. Poke bowl comes with a free miso soup which is just ok. Have not tried craft sushi yet so can not compare to that. As far as ramen the broth is not too salty. For some reason I prefer the flavors of Karai restaurant which is a bit pricier now as they hiked up their rates since we last visited them. I like the option of spicy miso broth which Karai offers and here I have to choose between a spicy OR miso broth. Cannot combine the two. Overall a good try considering their prices and location.

Hungry Belly – Menu with Prices – 2818 N Fitzhugh Ave, Dallas

This is really hard to write. Really, it’s 2 stars for the food and one extra star for the good service they provided. I really appreciate that the staff tried to remedy the issue, but I can’t give more than 3 stars due to the food. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl, and my boyfriend ordered the miso ramen. The bowl is served with a side of steamed vegetables, which I felt should be something more..exciting like grilled asparagus or cauliflower. Essentially I’m paying $10 for the meat. Upon my first bite of the chicken, something just felt off…it was crunchy? It didn’t quite have the texture of chicken but it was chicken. I had my boyfriend try it too to make sure I wasn’t the only one, and he agreed it tasted like freezer burn chicken. I notified the waiter, and they offered to make me a new dish, which was very nice of them. I ended up trying their shrimp tempura roll which was good. My boyfriend’s ramen was..subpar. As soon as it was delivered all we could smell was bamboo. The smell of bamboo was overpowering everything in that ramen. We’re Asian so we are used to eating bamboo, but that was too much–almost like it came from sitting in a can for too long? The broth was okay, meat was okay, egg was a regular hard-boiled egg. If you order the ramen, just don’t expect super authentic Japanese ramen, but we also felt it wasn’t worth the price. Hungry Belly has a pretty large menu: ramen, bentos, rice bowls, Korean specialty dishes, sushi. I think that’s where the problem lies because there’s so much to choose from (and so much the restaurant needs to excel in). Maybe the thing to get is sushi? But I do not recommend the teriyaki chicken or their ramen. I do want to thank Hungry Belly for having good customer service by offering to make me another dish!

Saki Teriyaki – Menu with Prices – 4795 E McKinley Ave, Fresno

Finally, some great Japanese food in Fresno. Not only was the food spot on in taste, and preparation but also the staff was kind and passionate about their work. My wife had the shoyu ramen which took a bit to come out, but had a delicious stock and was altogether very enjoyable. I went with the combo plate which came with their teriyaki meats including chicken, beef and shrimp. It was a little unusual to be served cold gyoza, but all temperatures of gyoza are served in different parts of the world so this is by no means a negative (I just dunked it in my wife’s ramen for a bit anyway). The meal came with a few cuts of sushi and some ginger which was a huge plus for me. We were very satisfied with their customer service and portions, and will definitely be back again!

EM Deli Catering – Menu with Prices – 6119 La Salle Ave, Oakland

I’m so happy that I no longer need to drive across town to KP Market! They have all your basics available. Especially the thinly sliced meats to have KBBQ at home. They put out meat daily. But, the selections do get smaller as the day goes by. So, best beat to get your pork belly or brisket is once they open. The meat I get from here produces less oils than those at KP market. So I guess it’s higher quality meat. I just know that it melts in your mouth once you pull it off the grill pan and dip it in some ponzu sauce. They even have the canisters for your home grill… They have hot meals for lunch. I got a beef bento box to take to my daughter at school. And I got a bowl of japchae and the kimchi fried rice. The lady behind the counter asked how many Kimchi I wanted and I told her I just needed two. And she asked how many miso soups. Again, just two. Both sides were complimentary with the hot meals. The japchae and kimchi fried rice bowls are big enough to be shared. But, I love my noodles! The kimchi fried rice was really spicy. But their kimchi as a side usually only has a little kick. The fried rice was topped with a fried egg. I was kind of sad because I like my fried egg yolk a little runny. Overall… I love that there is a bit more diversity in Montclair District! I love that the workers are super friendly! I love that this place saves me miles and gas ?
