Living in DFW for upwards of 15 years now, you kind of understand with Tacos what is authentic and what is not. We have such a multitude of choices to go to in the area, I found that the Tacos at Don Thomas are some of the best and most authentic. We stopped by and we tried the al pastor, bistec and campechanos. They were outstanding and my only regret was not ordering more. It’s a little of a hike but so worth it if your nearby. Personally I wish I worked closer as this would be my lunch spot.

La Primavera – Menu with Prices – 1889 N Tustin St, Orange

I live in Anaheim Hills and was looking for an authentic taco spot that wasn’t extremely far. Seen the Yelp reviews and thought I’d check this place out. First thing I asked about was their tacos. Tortillas are fresh and hand made. They have a variety, but I tried their birria, asada, and al pastor tacos. All three kinds were delicious, but I have to say that their al pastor is my favorite!!! I am extremely picky with al pastor, but their meat was soft, moist, and extremely well seasoned…I will definitely be back! I also tried an agua fresca de melon, bomb.bom! This is a small meat market that sells food, but the food is so worth it. I found my new taco spot near home! =)

Guapos Tacos Menu with Prices 2517 White Ln Ste C, Bakersfield

After a night hike at Wind Wolves I remembered several of my friends who had recommended Guapos tacos. Since I am hardly on that side of town I had yet to visit their location. We looked them up on Yelp and saw they were still open. The restaurant itself is very small but does provide some seating if you want to eat there. Since it was almost closing time we made our order to go so we wouldn’t be that “guy” I ordered the Asada torta, an Asada taco and 3 chicken pastor (Say whaaaa?!?) tacos. I loaded up on 2 of each salsa. Service was very friendly and quick. I was in and out of the place in about 7 minutes. When I got home I opened I up the containers and dug in. Torta was good , it definitely needed more meat in it. It also had a little too much mayo for me. Next time I’ll ask for it without. Overall very tasty. 4/5 Tacos- I should have ate the Asada taco first. Don’t get me wrong it was good but after eating the chicken pastor it made me regret not getting an additional chicken instead. I’m a huge fan of pastor and I know it’s made a variety of ways. It is traditionally made with pork so chicken pastor was a new experience for me. It was great! The salsas really kick up the flavor. I really enjoyed the green and orangeish salsa. The red I wasn’t a fan of. The only downside is that the tacos are 2$ a pop, and relatively small but it seems like everywhere you go now they are 1.25 plus. I miss the days when you get 2 for a 1$ Overall the food was good. I would say 3.5/4 ish borderline. 4 or more, raise the score .

Taqueria El Parrandero Menu with Prices 2651 Green Springs Hwy, Birmingham

Went here for the first time last night. I stayed for a while and saw many Spanish-speaking people come and go, which was an encouraging sign. The place has a vibe that is truly authentic; this isn’t Taco Bell / Taco Mama… Some notes: -I ordered two asada tacos and an asada quesadilla. They were wonderful. The steak is well-seasoned and well-charred. Generally, I like it more on the rare side, but this tasted great. -The fiery chipotle sauce (red bottle) is superb. I can’t say enough about this sauce. It adds a lot of flavor. -The avocado sauce (green bottle) was smooth, but too tangy/salty for my palate and not creamy enough. -The habanero sauce (yellow bottle) is not to be trifled with: I like things *very* spicy and this was borderline painful, though I may have used too much. Use it sparingly unless you want to feel it. -I saw many regulars order their tacos campechanos or al pastor. I didn’t know what this was prior to ordering, but having seen them come out, that’s what I would order next time for sure. -Their drinks are ok, but overpriced: Jarritos in bottles; Mexican Coke; 20 Oz. Powerade; bottled water; Sidral Mundet; or alcohol-free sangria… $2 each. -Sales tax is included in the listed price. Tip: Get it to go or bring your own drinks. The food is priced reasonably, but I spent $6 on drinks alone because I was very thirsty. That quibble aside, make no mistake ththis is a five-star review for authentic five-star cuisine.

Taqueria Valparaiso – Menu with Prices – 413 Maze Blvd, Modesto

Homemade yellow corn tortillas. Gorditas. Exceptional al pastor, complete w the zesty red salsa. Dirt cheap. The chicken tacos are excellent, but my favorite are the al pastor. They’re the best al pastor I’ve had in Modesto. The gorditas are also impressive. Not only do they offer them, which is an item that is not common, but they do them well. There’s tripe too, though I personally don’t do tripe. But my S.O. does, & he loved it. This is a traditional taqueria, but w above par food. The only thing is that the location is a bit rough. It’s right on Maze Blvd/Highway 132. Ladies, be sure to bring your man here w you, like I do. And that’s during the daytime. Sketchy area aside, the food is the real deal. Fresh, clean, uber authentic. Mom & pop, family run establishment. Nice people. 4 stars.

Taqueria la monarca – Menu with Prices – zip, 5813 Old Lee Hwy #7, Chattanooga

A must try. Don’t miss out on this favorite family spot. Very friendly and authentic. No set menu. Sustainable in a sense. Mom is in the back. While her daughter takes your order. There’s a variation of selections incumbent on the time of day. But the very best part is that she has fresh made tortillas daily. Anything like it never has come as close as having fresh corn tortillas from la plancha. There’s an array of delicious choices from mariscos to tacos. Menudo. No! Not the band. This is a traditional beef broth. Their tacos are so delicious that I have sat down and have tried them all. Those little tortillas are special. Double stack on each taco. Plus the carne asada. Oh my. So well worth it. Made with sautéed onions. Did I mention that she cooks to order? It’s not just the tortillas. The meats in these tacos are actually fresh and yummy. Pastor, lengua, chorizo, chicharrón, cabeza, carne asada y pollo. If you want authentic tacos or authentic delicious home cooked Mexican style dishes. Then you will want to try La Monarca.

La Casita Restaurante – Menu with Prices – 4539 Saufley Field Rd, Pensacola

This is for sure my new taco spot for Pensacola! I saw it pop up on yelp just around the corner from me and have been anxious to try it all week. Situated in a quiet store front beside a mini market La Casita’s humble storefront packs great hospitality and some damn good authentic tacos. I got 2 al pastor and 2 pollo tacos with a horchata. The al pastor was bursting with great flavor and nice pineapple chunks, while the pollo might have been the best I’ve ever had- juicy with a nice bite. Horchata tasted like the real deal and not a concentrate (like many of the other guys in town.) Pricing is very fair for the generous portions of the tacos- between $2-2.50/pc. I came in very hungry and was only able to make it thru 3 of my tacos. Well done La Casita! I’m excited to come back next week!

Taqueria La Antigua Guatemala – Menu with Prices – 156B E 004.01, Chattanooga

Great atmosphere, food, and friendly staff. Al Pastor tacos were outstanding. The sauces were amazing and complimented the tacos delicious and delicate flavor. Prices were reasonable; my meal as pictured was approximately $6.00. A beer and 4 tacos, not bad and plenty filling

Tacos El Gordo – Menu with Prices – 1510 N National Ave, Springfield

(I’ll be upfront and admit that I’ve only had their chicken and steak tacos. I’m sure the rest of their menu is just as good, but I’ve become quite addicted to the chicken tacos, and consequently haven’t had the willpower to try anything else. ) So about the chicken tacos: they are small and a bit pricey, but they are also the best tacos I have ever eaten… including in Mexico. They are really fantastic. I personally prefer to have them hold the onions, but that’s merely personal preference and no reflection on the quality of the onions. They only use quality ingredients. Each taco is fairly small, so for me four makes a full meal. You may prefer two to six, depending upon your appetite. They actually did heat up very well later though, so if you order too many, save them! Each one comes with a small slice of lime. If you squeeze some juice out, it really does add something amazing to the flavor. On a side-note, the steak tacos were outstanding as well. I’ve been favoring the chicken, but the steak was also outstanding. I’ll be honest and admit that I’d foolishly ignored this place for years, because I hadn’t been impressed with the restaurant which had preceded them, and the building was unremarkable. My foolish loss! I will be making up for that mistake over the coming years, by eating here every chance I get.

Bomb Azz Tacos – Menu with Prices – 2300 E 7th St, Long Beach

First things first …..if you’re driving along 7th street looking for this place at night and accidentally drive right by it…. you’re not the only one lmao. Once you find a parking spot somewhere in front of the liquor store and make your way to the taco truck you’ll notice a couple tables and chairs out side for people to eat after you get your meal. I ordered their well known “Bomb Azz street taco” with Carne Asada for two and two Al Pastor ones after seeing the Al Pastor being freshly cooked on a spit with a half cut pineapple on top. Waited for about 7 minutes before my order came out. The tacos came out fresh on a corn tortilla with some melted cheese and some guacamole on them as well. The next step was to sauce them up at the small little sauce bar they had to the left of the truck. They had the usual green chili verde sauce and the infamous red sauce. I stuck to the green sauce. Upon first bite you get a little bit of everything in one bite. Not to mention these tacos are a little big, similar to the authentic tacos you’d find in Mexico. The tacos had a lot of flavor and definitely hits the spot after a long day at work. Washed it all down with some horchata and called it a night. If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend trying this spot out and let me know what you think.

Tacos Garcilita Menu with Prices 6201 S Congress Ave, Austin

Awesome little truck with some authentic breakfast tacos! Note, it’s CASH ONLY! They have the usual combination of egg breakfast tacos and salsa, and they taste great! The tortillas are nice and soft and seem to be homemade. The tacos are made to order, but they come out pretty quick. They also serve lunch tacos, but I haven’t personally tried them yet. It’s also in a lot that has a mechanic, so it’s convenient to grab some food if you’re waiting on some maintenance. Definitely recommend!

The Taco Stand – Menu with Prices – 240 W Chapman Ave, Orange

I had heard amazing things about The Taco Stand in San Diego so was so excited to see we were getting an OC location. It took me a while to try it, but I ended up coming for lunch on a Saturday. I found street parking easily and the spots nearby aren’t metered so I was able to find a 2 hour spot across the street. When you walk in the menu is on the wall above the register, and then you order at the counter and find a spot to eat and they call names as the orders are ready. I opted for the al pastor and camaron tacos with a side of rice and beans. I thought the tacos were good but there was a LOT of sauce on each of them. I should have asked for sauce on the side but I wanted to try the authentic taco as it was intended, but it felt almost drenched in the sauce. The meat/shrimp were both really flavorful, and the tortilla was tasty. The rice was undercooked so still on the crunchy side which was a little disappointing. The beans also lacked a little bit of flavor so I put a ton of salsa on them to flavor them up. Finding seating was a bit tricky since it was lunch so we had to wait around a little until people got up. It ended up being fine and I’m sure the flow is good throughout the day, but I imagine it might be tricky to find seating at peak lunch or dinner. Overall the ambiance was good and the service was good, but the food was a little lackluster. If you like heavier sauces I’m sure the tacos are good, but they flavors overall didn’t blow me away and the sides were a little disappointing. I would still checkout the Taco Stand if you’re in the area, but if you’re reading this you’re probably smarter than me and looked at pictures first so you know what you’re getting.

Taqueria Amigo Chino – Menu with Prices – 5601 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago

Since I’ve only had tacos 3X’s in the last 3 days I was craving tacos again lol. Tonight is Monday we were driving by Taqueria Amigo Chino on the SW corner of Irving Park & Central Avenue and saw a sign from the Mexican Gods to go to Al Pastor Tacos for $1.39 on Mondays and Thursday. (or it could have been the sign on the window advertising it lol) So we pulled around the block and parked on Central a few doors from the restaurant. The restaurant was fairly busy (go figure for $1.39 Al Pastor tacos). Like most Mexican restaurants they brought us out an order of chips w/3 salsas. Both my wife and I ordered 3 Al Pastor tacos. I’m basing my review solely on the tacos. I’m surprised that Taqueria Amigo Chino is only rated 2 1/2 stars. The tacos that came to table were very good. They were loaded w/Al Pastor, onions & cilantro on 2 corn tortillas. The pork was very good w/a nice crispy texture. The service was good, good food w/street parking along Central Avenue. Remember Monday or Thursday for Al Pastor Tacos for $1.39
