Taj e chaat makes very good samosa chaats. I also like their lamb boti wraps. Taj e chaat is more of a 3.5 star place. I’ll bump it to a 4 star rating are for the 2 items I like there. The other items like the mixed grill plate is kind of pricey for a small amount of food you get. Usually can go to a Indian buffet and eat to your hearts delight lots of Indian dishes. I really wouldnt make a practice of eating at taj e chaat too often bc an Indian buffet is better, quantity and the quality is comparable. Lately their prices have increased by $1-2 which makes it less of a value. When I do have a hankering for samosa chaat or lamb wrap, I will frequent this place sometimes.

Chatpatay Casual Indian Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 9211 N Tryon St Ste 13, Charlotte

My partner and I were craving some Indian food. Unfortunately, there were no good places near the Concord Mills area so we drove a little out of the way to make sure we filled our fix. This place doesn’t look like much but the staff and owner were so nice! They told us their favorites and what their customers like. We took all of their advice with no regrets (except maybe on my wallet). We got the mango papdi chaat, plain & gobi paratha, 2 Indian sodas, lamb biryani, and chicken tikka masala. It was reasonably priced, but I definitely wasn’t expecting to get so many things. We’re a sucker for trying new things. The mango papdi chaat was good – refreshing with a surprising amount of heat. The Indian sodas were good too – very slightly spiced though I don’t know how to quite describe them. The plain paratha was A+ crispy and buttery. It went very well with my partner’s chicken tikka masala, which was SO RICH and tasty, with exceptionally moist chicken. The lamb biryani was good as well. Good spices, big pieces of lamb, and just so so good with the raita. The only thing I wouldn’t order again is the gobi paratha. It was a little dry, but I could tell their parathas are more authentic than other places – they definitely use whole wheat flour, not using enriched bleached flour for American tastes. The owner stopped by to talk with us a couple times and ensure the food was good. I was very happy with the food and service. I liked that the restaurant was casual in that you get your own silverware and water. It’s worth the detour to ensure you get solid Indian food.

Afghan Kabob Cville – Menu with Prices – 400 Emmet St N, Charlottesville

Food for buffet only is definitely overpriced. The people who rate it highly claim high quality but sadly this is probably the best Afghan restaurant so they don’t care. The food was just chicken, totaling at 6 dishes plus rice bread and salad. Sure the meat fell off the bone for chicken tandoori, but it was very dry even though this dish is expected to be over cooked. The chicken kofte was a dry meatball that was flavorless but salty. The chicken samosa was just a fried exterior wrapped around the chicken kofte. The eggplant with yogurt is probably their best dish but it does not compare to the dishes that you can order. At other buffets you get a selection but at this buffet you get scraps. I’ve dined here for dinner and it was pretty good, but I ordered lamb. You don’t get lamb for lunch. I’ve been here 4 times once a year for the past four years just to see if it has changed and it is consistently bad. The reviews about poor service are all true. When I went in I asked to look at the buffet and the guy almost denied me, as if he wanted to sit me down before I could leave. My server refilled my water only once and when she came back offered the check but didn’t serve water or even ask if I wanted some even though the water pitcher was in her hand. I don’t write many reviews and when I do it is because the food was surprisingly good…not here. This food and service was terrible for the price. I would say the food quality ratio is comparable to Hibachi without the large selection. Go to Milan or East Garden or even Wood Grill for better quality. Perhaps the only advantage is if the meat is halal, but I am not Islamic and am thankful that I don’t have to suffer this. Sultan kebab is where I would go for good middle eastern food. Edit: Came here today and the lamb was there for lunch. Less people were here and the food was pretty good. Still lacks variety but most of the dishes were palatable.

Elhariri Hot Halal food Menu with Prices 301 Ontario St, Albany

The best lamb around!! This is my new favorite place for lamb- it is by far the best quality you’ll find. With the lamb over rice and the lamb wrap, you’ll get your lamb sliced off right in front of you- that’s how fresh the meat is. The meat is well seasoned and has a great texture. For the quality of lamb, the price is reasonable and definitely worth a try! Tip- try not to come too late in the day or there won’t be much lamb left and the core was significantly softer in texture- not very tasty.

Bawarchi Indian Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 711 Pleasant Grove Blvd #140, Roseville

Below, I am leaving my original review unchanged. I am updating to say that I have been back five or six times over the past few weeks, and trying different items. Still, all has been outstanding at every visit. Original review: Ordered from menu, not buffet – no idea about the buffet. I ordered three menu items and they were all fantastic. Very creamy and savory, and just enough heat to satisfy without being over the top. They also did adapt one dish for me, switching in lamb for goat. They charged $3 for the change. If it is just a matter of changing the meat, and it was, and if everything is fresh, then I don’t think there should be that charge. But they told me about it when I ordered, and I accepted. I also obviously left a five star review, so I am not taking away for it. Just sayin’. I’ll be back for sure whenever I am in the mood for Indian food…maybe tonight.

Abhiruchi Indian Cuisine South & North – Menu with Prices – 233 NE Chkalov Dr, Vancouver

Are you kidding me right now? Everyone in Vantucky that ate here has obviously bumped their head or had their taste buds burnt off ! If you gave this place a 5 stars, 4 star, 3 star or even 2 star review your reasoning had no reason! Ok, when I think of Indian food, I think of sweet and spicy with buttery sauces and dips for the appetizers. Fresh and flavorful! By the way I didn’t not come for the Buffett this was dinner and I ordered several things! I really wanted to give it a go. I guess I should have taken the hint when my daughter mentioned that motel 6 was next door … Now the last time I checked, chicken Tikka wasn’t served on a bed of raw onions and sliced up from a loaf for Jenny”O” chicken breast in rectangular shapes! But mine was and it was as dry as the Mojave desert! No joke, no flavor nothing but a quarter of a lime slammed in the center ! The paneer pakora was so-strange , truthfully l couldn’t even wrap my mind around it. So when the lamb samosa arrived I was a little taken back and they should have been called lamb small-oosa. These were obviously made for small people, because I could have fit the two in my shirt pocket . By the way, I don’t have a pocket on my shirt and they were deep fried last week for sure ” hard as Kelsies nuts” as my dear departed papa would say! I had to ask for the dipping sauces and when I finally requested mango chutney the guy looked at me like I was crazy, kept bobbing his head repeating it over and over like I was speaking a forgiven tongue … mango chutney, mango chutney , then turned and pranced off… the leg slapped part is he brought me Trader Joe’s mango chutney … Now here is the clincher I was there a maximum of 18 minutes and I was asked if I wanted a box! Mid stride in trying to evaluate and stomach this $29.00 over priced Indian food imposter ! I stand down …

Minerva Express Menu with Prices 4815 Lee Hwy, Arlington

Good hole-in-the-wall. It’s a small counter restaurant inside of an Indian grocery store. I saw shoppers both times, so it has community support. Tables are tiny and not the most inviting, but you don’t seek out these places for ambience. You seek it out for a shot at well-priced, authentic Indian food and this place delivers: The Good -All flavors and spices on point. I did medium spice for everything, and it had the proper Indian style heat with the spices and chili heat cooked into the food throughout the process. Tastes great, the kind of built-in spiced heat that wrecks my stomach every time. Worth it once in a while ? -20 min. to cook for a large order, no complaints on time -Biryani is very good -Chiken tikka masala and chili chicken are very good -Samosa chaat is EXCELLENT -Naan and rotis were good, but I could see how they might not be unless super fresh. Mine always were. -Dosa was large, fresh, and well made. The Bad -The little man behind the counter is helpful enough…but, ahem, picks himself in various places casually. I get its a cultural thing that I’ve seen in other parts of the world, but kind of gross when he’s handling your food and what not. -Dosa was good and large, but could have been just a bit more crispy to my liking. I’m nitpicking, but that’s only because the quality was so good. An Indian friend mentioned the butter chicken is also great here and I believe it. Worth the 10 min. drive for me when I’m craving no-frills Indian!

Emperor of India – Menu with Prices – 5825 Cottle Rd, San Jose

UP FRONT: Lunch buffet everyday 11:30 – 2:30 ($13.99) Generally speaking, I don’t like to eat at buffets. Occasionally, I’ll get roped into eating at one because I’m with a group or something, but I try to avoid them. I make exceptions to the “no buffet” rule when it comes to Indian food since it seems the buffet tables are always out and hard to avoid. Quality over quantity, anytime, all day long. First time here. I came with my daughter who ate here once with her friends and liked it. Wide open space, lots of tables. We came toward the end so it wasn’t crowded at all, but other reviewers have warned it does get crowded at lunchtime. Pretty standard spread of Indian food, your standard BUTTER CHICKEN, DHAL, TANDOORI CHICKEN and several other kinds of curry including some vegetarian varieties. There was a huge vat of GOAT CURRY which will definitely catch your eye as you approach the buffet tables. I mean HUGE. They bring the NAAN to your table. If they don’t, ask for it. I liked the naan, not the best ever, but it was served warm and I enjoyed it. Best naan for me is at Zareen’s in Mountain View. For dessert they had the CARROT HALWA, which I thought was pretty good. If you haven’t tried it, it’s a sweet mixture of carrots, nuts and spices. Indians will sometimes refer to it as a “pudding” but it doesn’t really resemble a pudding. If you like carrot cake, you’ll like it. KHEER was also on the table and this is more like a pudding – a loose rice pudding. There are so many different varieties and versions of kheer. This one was decent – looser than most I’ve had but it helped to bring up my blood sugar level to avoid slipping into a food coma! ? I notice a good amount of haters reviewing this place. Some Indians get really finicky about their food and think it’s their place to play major food critic and tear the business apart for no good reason. Some of them really go off and get brutal. It’s sad and unfair, I think, to the owners of this family-run business who work hard every day. I’m a white guy, but I’m married to an Indian. I’ve been eating Indian food for decades and have been to India a dozen times or so. I found the food here tasty and consider this to be one of the better Indian places I’ve been to in our area. It’s hard to find good Indian food in the bay which is insane given the amount of Indians living here. My wife, who is from India also liked the food a lot and said she wanted to come back. I feel the same. I def want to come back despite my disdain for buffet places. And for $13.99, all-you-can-eat? That’s a deal that’s hard to beat!

The Indian Bistro Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 671 Ohio Pike H, Cincinnati

Indian Bistro offer authentic Indian food. Diners may enjoy their food ordered off menu, during their lunch buffer, or three nights a week from their dinner buffet. That’s right. Indian Bistro is one of the few Indian restaurants offering a dinner buffet. We got there as they opened. Everything on the buffet was hot and either looked fresh, or was sufficiently stewed. Nanna was fresh. Flavors were balanced. I enjoyed the variety offered. Several vegetarian options with protien from either chickpeas or tofu were available. I did not feel that anything was too spicy. The spiciest dish I tried was the fish. It had a slow burn. My youngest did not have much on his plate. They noticed, and brought a plate of chicken not offered on the buffet for him. It was a kind and appreciated gestures. Several people were picking up to-go orders. One order was even being picked up Doordash.

Planet Bombay Indian Cuisine Menu with Prices Planet Bombay Indian Cuisine, 619 Edgewood Ave SE Suite 101, Atlanta

First to review! Went here last night. Have to say everything was on point. Service was very fast, but truth be told I was the only person in the place dining in. It was clean and I loved the interior. Located in a safe part of Edgewood. My server was Golub?, but just about every staff member came to check on me including the manager. Food: delicious and filling! I ordered the samosa chaat and tikka masala with naan. Somosa plate was huge and soo delicious and flavorful. Just the right amount of spice. The tikka masala had big tender chunks of chicken. My only negative thing to say is the masala sauce was a little too sweet and tomatey. I like a little more spice. The naan was probably the best I’ve ever had! I couldn’t even finish a third of my food and they brought me boxes and a bag to take home. Prices were standard..$16 plates. Except I noticed the biryani was like $18-yikes. In sum, this plate gets high ratings and my recommendation. It’s nice enough inside to take dates or family and the food is quality. Get the naan and somosa chaat when you go;)

Madras Mantra – Menu with Prices – 2349 Windy Hill Rd SE Suite # 120, Marietta

I wasn’t even aware Madras Mantra existed until I drove by it looking for somewhere to eat. Being a fan of Indian cuisine I decided to give it a try. As it’s name would suggest, it is vegetarian only. I ate from the buffet. I’m not a fan. For me, there just weren’t enough “unique” options. By “unique” I mean that they appear to be using the same ingredients for multiple items. For example, they had two dishes based on bitter gourd. One was fried and the other had a sauce. But they both were bitter. If I don’t like bitter gourd, and I don’t, that’s two items from the buffet that are off the list. They had three dishes containing vada! One was just the plain garden variety doughnut thing. Another was manchurian vada. And yet another was some soup with vada doughnuts floating in it. That’s a lot of use for vada and if you don’t like vada…that’s three less items for you to enjoy. I guess you could just avoid the vada in the soup but you get my point. Since there aren’t a lot of items on the buffet, it wouldn’t be hard to have few viable options. I suspect there is some recycling going on too. For example, some bites of my manchurian vada were very tough. I couldn’t even stab my fork into some! This makes me think that they are reusing older vada in it. I don’t know that. It’s just a suspicion and I could be wrong. Regardless, some bites were unacceptably tough. The interesting thing though is that the manchurian vada was very dense and has a texture more like meat than anything I can think of…short of meat. In some ways it reminded me of meatloaf. That kind of texture. I don’t know that there is any value in that to a vegetarian but since I’m not, I appreciated the texture. But, with the limited number of unique items, plus the number of better Indian options in the area for me, I doubt I will return.

Hutkay Fusion Menu with Prices 3022 Packard St, Ann Arbor

Hutkay Fusion (formerly Hut-K Chaats) is reopening! The owner has returned after needing to return to India for the last year. Me and a few friends found this place recently and had a great experience. The owner has a Ph.D in food science and it shows with the ways he’s able to combine different flavors and unique ingredients. All the foods are vegetarian and most are vegan so it’s friendly for everyone! I got the Shanu Chaat that was recommended and it had colocasia leaves with spices chickpeas, potatoes, and peas. It was topped with some spicy sauce for a delicious combination of flavors. The chaat is a great combo of sweet, salty, spicy and crunchy flavors/textures. When you order, you have the option of setting your spice level from 1-10. I found it endearing that they set the “michigan” spice level as 3, “Indian” spice level at 5-6, and “thai” spice level at 9+! The owner also explained that colocasia leaves are actually inflammatory if eaten raw, but safe to eat when cooked (fun fact!). Hutkay is a family owned restaurant and the owner is super friendly. He offered us all a sample of the chaat before we ordered because we were new and walked us through the menu. I can tell he has a deep love for food and is proud of the menu that he’s created. I’m excited to come back and try some of the other dishes! My girlfriend got the Paneer Tikka Wrap Roll and it was also amazing.

Swagat Indian Cuisine Menu with Prices 15380 George Oneal Rd, Baton Rouge

This was our FIRST.TIME.EVER! to eat Indian food. We had passed by here on Sunday and when we got home, I looked the restaurant up on Yelp. I read ALL 85 reviews, good & bad, took notes of the foods people raved about, etc. First off, soon as we came in the door, we were greeted by not one, not two but three people. All very friendly. We were shown to our table asked what we wanted to drink. I told the lady this was our first time eating Indian food, so she and everyone else was curious as to how we liked it. She said it was the buffet so, try everything. And that we did! Butter Chicken, Chicken Chettinadu, Onion Pakoda, Lamb Biryani, Badamkheer are the ones I can remember. Everything we ate was good, it just hasn’t left an impression on us like other ethnic foods we’ve eaten. We probably will return, just not tomorrow. Lol.
