Stopped for lunch two days ago. What a mistake. Ordered a taco/enchilada platter. I noticed the rice container was nearly empty and the rice on the bottom looked burned. I said something to the young guy preparing my plate. He said “oh, we have more rice” as he scraped the bottom of the pan to put a spoonful on my plate. I also noticed the pinto bean container was nearly empty and the remaining beans looked burned. I opted for the refried beans. As he continued making my plate, the taco looked just like the enchilada. I asked the young guy (who was sleeping his way through the preparation) what the difference in a taco and enchilada was. “Oh, I put red sauce on it”. Never mind I said and just took the plate as is. My first bite of rice crunched on my teeth. I thought of going back and asking for fresh rice, but during the plate preparation, the owner/manager stood behind the young guy rolling her eyes as she overheard my concerns. I figured it was my loss. I noticed the owner weighing out the chips for anyone ordering chips and salsa. A side of rice/beans is the same price as a small bag of chips. Who weighs chips (which are an inexpensive side)? The final straw is when I went to the drink machine for a refill. The young guy and female owner were standing/walking on a wet dirty floor as they continued serving customers. Something was either leaking or had spilled and neither stopped to clean it up. I about chucked up my rock hard rice. Needless to say, I’ll never be back. Lousy food, high prices, dirty environment. Ada County Health Department needs to pay them a visit.

Abelardo’s Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 1200 S Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls

Went there Friday April 26th. When I arrived I asked the young gentleman what was good (I like to find out what the staff likes to help me decide). He said “Everything”. I ordered the two taco plate. A friend ordered the taco and enchilada plate with a shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada. When our food arrived it was interesting that the amount of beans and rice was different on each of our plates. They use a Styrofoam plate that has three sections. Since the rice was in one section, the beans in another, my friend definitely had more of each. I expected the taco to be one of three things: 1) a flour tortilla (ie softshell) 2) a hard yellow corn fried tortilla (hardshell) or 3) a white corn tortilla lightly grilled (street taco). What I received was a flour tortilla deep fried and dark brown (on the edge of burned). Same with my friend’s taco. When I picked up my taco, there was nearly an 1/8th of an inch of grease in the third section. As I held the taco, the grease literally dripped out! I thought about adding a enchilada to my order at first, but now I was glad I didn’t. Here is the take-away. My plate had less beans and rice than my friend. My ground beef tacos were greasy and had nearly burned deep fried flour tortillas with very little seasoning. My friend’s shredded beef taco meat was tender, but without flavor and his shell was also nearly burned. His enchilada had little flavor also. The salsa bar was nice, as as the other reviewer mentioned, the salsa is a little spicy. They had sliced carrots and pickled jalapeno peppers, as well as radishes and fresh lime. The menu looks like Giliberto’s, the salsa bar looks like Giliberto’s but the portion size and flavors are not there. We felt like they were trying to imitate a good thing, but fell short. We cleaned our plates there and went to Taco Johns. I had a super burrito and small Ole’s. He had a hardshell taco and small Ole’s. Kinda sad when you have to order a meal after you have just finished one….

Via Delosantos – Menu with Prices – 9120 N Central Ave, Phoenix

Saturday night. 6ish. Not very busy inside but the parking lot was jammed. Sat immediately. Chips and salsa along with waters brought quickly. Chips greasy and hot. Mild salsa had great flavor with a slight kick. Hot salsa was just that. Hot but good. Order a shredded beef chimi, kid’s enchilada plate, #12 combo. (Taco, enchilada, rice and beans) ordered the bean and cheese dip appetizer to start. Don’t bother with this one. It’s just refried beans in a dish. Good beans but not really a dip. We added salsa and it was much better. Food arrives. Everything looked good but instead of the kid’s enchilada they brought 2 mini tacos. We didn’t want to wait so my son said he’d eat them. I’d have thought we’d get a small discount for the mistake but nah. He ate them so no foul. Husband’s combo was average run of the mill mexican. Nothing wrong. Nothing special. My chimi was soggy but the tortilla mised with the guac and sour cream was good. Shredded beef tasted like something I’d cook in the crock on a long day. Overall was a decent meal and a good value if you’re looking for large portions. Just average though. Building is in dire need of a remodel. Missing tiles and chips in tables. If in the area I would dine again but not go out of my way.

La Parrilla Mission Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 7372 Mission Boulevard Suite 104, Riverside

The parking lot looked busy, so we decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly – they all looked very busy. I ordered a taco combination plate. It said 2 tacos, beans and chips. Mine came with rice, which I preferred. My husband ordered the chili rellano combination plate. Both came with a soft drink. I ordered a carne asada burrito to go. The server brought us a variety of salsas and chips. A red tomato salsa, a tomatillo salsa(best flavor), an enchilada type sauce and another yellow green salsa. These need work. They need some heat, salt – something’s missing. The server checked on us and I asked if we could get our sodas and then she additionally checked on us 2x more while we waited for our food. The chili rellano plate came first. The cheese was not melted on the inside, the server told us it’s because it’s queso Fresca. Didn’t matter because it still was cold inside. The homemade tortillas are yummy! Rice and beans were ok. Nothing exciting – seem to be missing something. My food still hadn’t come, so I asked when it was ready could I just get it to go, they said sure. Called me over to get it at the counter and I reminded them about my “to go” burrito. I sat back down and waited for it to be made. They did not offer and salsa to go which is ok since I didn’t care for it anyway. I tried my tacos once I got home. The meat needs seasoning. They definitely needed salsa. My son had the burrito- he said the beans need help and the meat needs seasoning too. He was bummed we didn’t get salsa. All in all, I wanted to love this place. Maybe I’ll give them a few months and try later. I’m giving 3 stars because they were trying hard.

Taqueria La Familia – Menu with Prices – 2642 W 32nd Ave, Denver

This is the best dine in Mexican establishment I have eaten at in North Denver, period. (Admittedly there are some taco trucks on Federal with better tacos but I consider these different genres.) If you dine in, they serve you chips with housemade salsa and warm red chile. I highly recommend the warm red chile! I ordered the combination platter with a chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and steak street taco. It was served with a side of rice and beans and your choice of tortillas. I ordered it with corn tortillas, which were amazingly fresh and excellent to scoop bites of chile relleno. The street taco was top notch and the enchilada had great flavor. My husband ordered chicken gorditas and these were great as well. We were able to dine al fresco on the small sidewalk patio and it was a wonderful experience! I already can’t wait to return. Extensive vegetarian options on the menu as well, for those looking. Also pro tip: finish your meal with a $1 churro from the Rosales Panaderia two doors down.

Vallarta Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2151 Fort Benning Rd, Columbus

Decided to give this place a shot since we are on the lookout for a new favorite Mexican restaurant in Columbus… I ordered a combo plate with a soft shredded beef taco, chile relleno and chicken chimichanga. Right away i noticed I received a hard ground beef taco instead of the soft shredded I ordered (honest mistake). The waitress quickly fixed it. The shredded beef, although flavorful, was tough. I had to open my taco and shred the meat myself just to be able to take a bite. My Chile Relleno was the worst I’ve ever had (I order them at every Mexican restaurant. Every single time). It was the smallest poblano pepper, maybe palm sized, with hardly any cheese inside. It was so tough I HAD to use my knife to cut it because my fork couldn’t do the job. The sauce wasn’t anything special. After the one bite and telling the waitress I didn’t like the Chile Relleno, she took it away from the table, but did not offer any type of replacement or discount. Then I realized I was given beans when I had asked for rice (No big deal. Honest mistake just like my taco). HOWEVER, I then realized my children’s orders were equally messed up. What was suppose to be a shredded beef enchilada and ground beef taco turned out to be ground beef enchilada and shredded taco (different orders for different children). I didn’t think it was worth making a fuss over since we were already so hungry. I didn’t want to have to send the kids food back as well. The only thing I ended up eating was the complimentary chips with salsa and the small chicken chimichanga from my combo plate. My husband liked his fajitas well enough and the Horchata was delicious. The staff was friendly, but not attentive. This just wasn’t the place for us. I guess we will keep looking for our new favorite spot.

El Mundo De Mariscos – Menu with Prices – 2936 Oceanside Blvd, Oceanside

I stopped in yesterday for the first time. I ordered the two chicken enchilada combination. The enchiladas were filled with fresh, shredded breast meat, but they were dry because there was barely any green sauce inside. I also ordered a shredded beef burrito with guacamole ($1 extra–very reasonable). It was a giant burrito; fresh and delicious. No complaints there. The reason for three stars: It’s expensive. The enchilada combo was $12. I ordered “a small bag” of chips ($3) not knowing that the combo already comes with a small bag of chips. The man taking my order (the proprietor?) didn’t mention that it was already coming with chips. He asked if I wanted beans on the burrito, and I asked how it is usually made. He said “either way.” So I said yes, with beans. I was charged 50 cents extra for something..? The beans on the burrito, the salsa? He didn’t say. The total for one combination, one burrito, and the chips was $24.48 before tax. That’s very steep for low-overhead items. The same order at R******’s would be considerably less for the same quality/quantity of food. Probably won’t return because of the prices.

Chacho’s Tacos – Menu with Prices – 3700 Ayers St, Corpus Christi

This is a fantastic restaurant with delicious homemade TexMex dishes and great friendly service. The food is excellent and all homemade. Nothing processed or from a can here. The building is run down looking and looks skectchy with bars on the windows and in an old house converted into a restaurant. Parking is limited out front but additional parking is available on the side street by Dairy Queen. This is the kind of place that is easy to drive right by and not even notice. Don’t judge the food or service by the outside appearance though, as this is really good food and in a quaint homey setting inside. The dining rooms are small, but it’s got a couple of dining rooms so there is room for several parties to dine. They do have daily specials and I spotted a mole dish featured on one of the days, I think it was Thursday’s or Friday’s special, but it wasn’t today so I couldn’t try it. I had the Mexican plate which came with an enchilada, a tostada, a crispy taco, beans, rice, and a tortilla. I could have had chips and salsa too but I didn’t ask for them. The plates are generously filled with food and I couldn’t finish all of mine. The taco shell and tostada were definitely made in house. They were both very crisp and fresh and a perfect way to serve those tasty fillings and toppings of beans, beef, lettuce, cheese and red and green hot sauce. The enchilada was really good and the red sauce was mild and one of the best enchilada sauces I’ve ever eaten. It was a nice blend of chiles without being spicy or bitter tasting. It was smooth and mellow and had just enough spice to add flavor without taking over the dish. They had a busy drive thru service here too, so you can get the food to go. This is some of the best Mexican food in town and worth the drive over to get. I feel like I was eating at a friends house and Grandma was cooking this, it was like that. Really good food.

Chihuahua Charlies Cantina Menu with Prices 5835 Interstate 20 W, Arlington

Ok-so I’ve been there twice in one month now…and both times service, although GREAT, is just a little slow. The tables are dirty and it seems like they are understaffed…that being said, however…their food is YUMMY!! Let me just say that green salsa is DA BOMB! But NOT for the faint of heart!! It’s spicy, but the flavor ir amazing! The chips and thin and just the perfect amount of salt. The red salsa isn’t bad either, I just really prefer the green. First time I had the fajitas. Not bad! Not the best I e had, but definitely not the worst! They were moist and tender and flavored well. I can’t speak for the rice and beans personally, because I don’t eat rice and beans-but my friends that had them said they were delicious! My other friends had the poblano enchiladas, the chicken bowl, and the flautas. My friend raves about their Elote. I also don’t eat corn, but it looked delicious! The second time we went, I had their menudo. Definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food, the history of the restaurant and was super attentive. My 4 yo son had their queso (that’s his staple at all Mexican Restaurants) and their cheese enchiladas with the beans (no rice)…he LICKED the plate, so two thumbs up from the 4 yo. My husband had the poblano enchiladas with beans and corn, also licked the plate! Needless to say we will definitely be back!!

Brownsville Coffee Shop No. 2 – Menu with Prices – 3230 International Blvd, Brownsville

We are in Brownsville on business and as such, ordering in to our hotel room at strange hours. We decided to use Door Dash and order delivery. This review is based on our experience with the food only and as delivered. Food is never quite as good when it has been sitting steaming in styrofoam. My review has been adjusted for delivery sadness that occurs. My husband and I both ordered the 2 enchilada, 2 taco plate, our kiddo, the enchilada kids’ meal. We also ordered gorditas…or, so I thought but received some sort of beef stew and maybe I’ve been to one too many Taco Bells in my time but, I feel like that was a mistake. Except it wasn’t. I should mention that the food is ridiculously cheap lol, which is why we ordered so much. The portions are huge but taste like sadness for the most part. All in all? Pretty bland and tasteless. The tacos lacked any seasoning at all. The enchiladas were fairly mediocre, beans meh, rice…well, can’t really screw up rice too badly no matter who you are. That stew that I don’t think was ours was deeeelicious. Straight review? A solid 2, a 3 to account for delivery food. I really wanted to see what the rage was about the place…sadly, we came away disappointed.

Tacos Cancun – Menu with Prices – 459 W Broadway, Glendale

LOCATION Tacos Cancun is located in a little strip mall at the corner of Broadway and Pacific on Broadway. The parking is tight at lunch time with all the businesses around the Restaurant. There is no questioning this is a hole in the wall. Usually the best! And this was! ATMOSPHERE Restaurant is small and looks to cater the take away menu. Many people called in their food and came to pick it up. Not a place to hold a party. Great location though as it is right in town. Good to meet just a couple people for lunch. FACILITY The restaurant itself is very small having only about 8-10 two seat tables or so. INSIDE Very cute. Not flashy and not decorated but efficient. OUTSIDE At this place, there is no outside seating. SERVICE Friendly, efficient. You even get chips and salsa. THE ORDER Ordered the #3, Taco and Enchilada.- 4.5 out of 5 stars – I actually swapped the regular taco with a street taco. A much better choice in my opinion. This was such a satisfying meal! The enchilada (cheese) had onions. Not my favorite but ok. The red sauce was flavorful. I added some of their hot sauce to everything and was superb. Beans were very good and not mushy. Rice was also tasty. As I mentioned, a hole in the wall and very well worth the title! Everything is served on a paper plate and you use plastic utensils. ONLINE ORDERING You can call ahead and order but there is no online ordering. Go orders can be placed at 818-396-5584. They will even cater your event! Beans were very good and not mushy. Rice was also tasty. STAFF Friendly, speak great English as well as spanish. OVERALL Fresh dependable menu items served by friendly staff. I’m very excited to have found this place. It is one of the better Mexican lunch spots in the area. Price is spot on with nothing on the menu over $10. Definitely a good spot for lunch. Go Here! I put a picture of the menu but it is also on Yelp elsewhere.

Rosa’s Café & Tortilla Factory – Menu with Prices – 13011 Indiana Ave, Lubbock

In the world of fast-casual Americanized Mexican, Rosa’s is pretty solid option. The menu choices are plentiful while the prices are relatively painless. While it may not rival some of the independent neighborhood establishments, it is in my opinion, well ahead of typical fast food fare and I’d definitely choose it over say a Chipotle. You’ll find all of the usual Tex-Mex suspects here – tacos, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas and nachos. The menu has an assortment of plate/ dinner options or you can mix and match with individual items. I went with the Mexican Dinner (#3) with includes a cheese enchilada with red sauce and a traditional hard shell picadillo beef taco with rice, beans and two tortillas. I’m still not sure how the tortillas fit into the equation though. Am I supposed to make a double decker taco with it, eat it plain or use it to create a rice and bean concoction? At any rate, you get two extra (presumably) fresh house made tortillas. If they served them warm as opposed to at room temperature then they might really be onto something. The taco and enchilada were both very good. Not “I’m going back to have them again tomorrow good,” but definitely fast-casual enjoyable. I also ordered a side of the chips and queso which I couldn’t get enough of. This Rosa’s location is brand spanking new. So new in-fact, that I’m pretty sure there was still some wet paint on the wall. I was truly impressed by the ambiance highlighted by all of the bright colors and Mexican decor. It really feels as though you’ve stepped into a different world which is a nice touch rarely seen in the fast-casual arena. The salsa bar would probably rival or surpass any that I’ve ever seen. The salsa options are extensive and well labeled to avoid any confusion. In closing, this new location is great and the food is categorically good. Remember, don’t skip out on the side of queso and that you may have to get creative in figuring out what to do with the extra two tortillas. Lastly and possibly most importantly, Rosa’s does have a frozen margarita offering and a small selection of bottled beers to wash down the tacos.

Red Bridge Barrio – Menu with Prices – 11118 Holmes Rd, Kansas City

The decor and outdoor seating are lovely and very inviting for a night out. We were greeted by the hostess who was friendly but clearly bra-less WTMI anytime, but especially noticeable in the 70+ year old hostess. Again, great atmosphere and great staff, but the food was lackluster at best. Everyone is served a small side of chips and salsa while you wait for your order…chips were clearly freshly fried and served warm from the kitchen. They were both decently flavored. The chips were served with a sprinkle of chili-lime flavored salt. The chips and salsa set my expectations for tasty entrees… We ordered mushroom/kale enchiladas and chicken fajitas. The enchiladas came with a side of Mexican corn and rice, the fajitas came with all the usual sides of pico, cheese, flour tortillas, lime, onions, poblano peppers, sour cream, guacamole plus a side of black beans served in a mini taco bowl, and rice. Lots of food for the money. The food came out of the kitchen fast in about 10-15 minutes despite being super busy during happy hour. But sadly the chicken, beans, rice and enchiladas all lacked spices of any kind. When our delightful waitress checked in with us, I let her know I was disappointed, and gave her feedback, but was willing to get a salt shaker and make due, when she insisted that she have the kitchen remake my fajitas and sent her manager to the table. She was very apologetic and eager to please. The manager stopped by and apologized and we chatted briefly. The second order of fajitas came to the table lickety split and sadly was worse than the first serving. Again there was no flavor and the chicken had been cooked so fast that it was tough and chewy. A second manager stopped by the table to check in and he was charming and helpful, and very apologetic. The food was edible so we picked at it a bit, but the food was lacking across the board. The outside of my plate had food stuck to it… We’ll likely go back and give them a second chance sometime just because of the wonderful and caring staff!I
