This was one of the best, most refreshing lunches I’ve eaten in a long time! With how hot it has been, we weren’t in the mood for an overly filling, heavy lunch. We had never been here but decided to give it a try after spending the morning hiking. The tuna melt was awesome! The bread was perfectly toasted. There was a hefty helping of tuna salad covered in gooey cheese. I like that the tuna didn’t have too much onion and it had crisp apple pieces in it. The watermelon feta salad was fabulous. I could’ve eaten it as an entree. The Gorgonzola salad was also very good and fresh. Of course I had to try their custard. I got just one scoop of the flavor of the day- Chocolate almond coconut. I couldn’t believe how much they gave me! Incredibly generous. We also had the chocolate bread pudding which again was great. I can’t wait to come back here. We wish it was closer to where we work because we would love to be able to come here for weekday lunch. I am ready to try some more of the wonderful sounding things on their menu!

Cheesecakes & More – Menu with Prices – 2710 Centenary Blvd, Shreveport

Had a great Tuna Salad salad today! Really enjoyed it with raspberry vinaigrette. Contained tomato wedges, hard boiled egg wedges, and a large scoop of tuna salad on the proverbial bed of lettuce!

Lou, The French On The Block – Menu with Prices – 4007 W Riverside Dr, Burbank

A solid French bakeshop in Burbank Media District was unheard of 10 years ago. In an area known for basic food options, Lou The French on The Block, has joined other hipster dining spots in this revitalized neighborhood. Lou’s traditional croissants are made with French butter daily. I’m a purist and love butter croissants…and Lou’s can rival Chaumont in Beverly Hills. The croissants are shatteringly crisp and retain that crisp most of the day. The dough is satisfyingly savory because it has the notes of traditional French cultured butter…once you’ve had a proper French butter croissant, you’re ruined for life. There’s also an assortment of almond, chocolate, and chocolate/almond croissants. They look delicious, but I’ve only had the butter. The shop offers modest pastries, coffee, and a small lunch business. Their pan bagnat sandwiches are made with house made fresh baguettes. For about $12, you get a very sizeable sandwich (about 12 inches) for lunch. They are made in the traditional pan bagnat style where they are made in the morning and sit until lunchtime in the refrigerator…the time allows the flavors to marry. The bread still manages to maintain some type of crispness while allowing the fillings to shine. The tuna pâté is my favorite…fresh tuna salad brightened up with lemon, hard-boiled egg slices, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The flavors become super cohesive. Hungry people can be satisfied with a whole sandwich…had I not skipped dinner, I would have been more than happy with half of my tuna sandwich. The raspberry financier and the eclairs are both great. Though the icing/decoration on top is a bit too sugary and artificial for me…so I rip it off and just eat the eclair…it becomes perfect. Everyone is so nice when I come in. The chef is always working in the back, so I imagine quality control is tight. There’s a cute little patio out front, but space is limited.

Strickland’s Frozen Custard Menu with Prices 1809 Triplett Blvd, Akron

Our parents took us here starting in the early fifties. I love this place! They have the best custard I have ever eaten. Home made daily and multiple flavors to choose from. They have an extensive menu of treats. You can also buy fresh pints of soft serve custard from their freezer. My favorites are banana foster, black raspberry chocolate chunk, and a good old fashion hot fudge sundae. A must go to if you are in the Akron area! Check for their other locations in the area too.

Christi’s Cravings – Menu with Prices – 109 N Maple St # F, Corona

If you are looking for a quick spot to grab some lunch with out having to wait in line or deal with a rushing atmosphere this is a good little spot. I tried the Tuna sandwich on sqaw bread and it was delicious. Tuna salad was freshly made hours before consumed. They have various bread types to choose from. Good chip selection and salad bar too. Service was great! Just took one star for looking a bit dated inside could use some sprucing up. Way better than fast food!

Mocktails & Dreams – Menu with Prices – 30236 Mall Dr W, Jersey City

I was really excited when I saw this place pop up on Yelp, I’ve been talking about wanting a good bubble tea place in JC. There are a few, but none are spectacular. We’ve been here twice since it opened, and have tried a few things, with mixed results. First of all, we tried three “mocktails” thus far, overall, they were great, but I am not sure if they are worth the $7.50 price. Out of the three that we tried, i.e. Darling Clementine, Pineapple Express and Strawberry Affairs, I liked the strawberry one the best. I didn’t want the whip cream that came with the drink, so they gave me an extra scoop of ice cream instead. The drink itself was delicious, it tasted like a delicious strawberry milkshake. However, the straw they gave us was not adequate to use for the jelly and strawberry pulp. As such, we had to use a spoon at the end to scoop up the remnants. We’ve also tried the Obanyaki with Salted Caramel Ice Cream before they changed the menu to only include the standard ice cream flavors. It was pretty good, I really liked the ice cream filling. Lastly, we tried three standard obanyakis, including custard cream, matcha and lemon custard. The matcha one was not very good, as the match filling was too strong and bitter. The two custard versions were much better. Service was great, the staff were all knowledgeable and accommodating. The space is cute and a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the food court upstairs. However, I do feel the prices here are a tad too high for the food they offer.

Truffle Bistro – Menu with Prices – 774 N Tustin St, Orange

Came here for the first time today. TLDR; Will definitely come back!! They have expanded their menu and wine list from what’s posted here on yelp from 4 months ago We got all tapas – Gambas Al ajillo, mussels & clams, Gorgonzola gnocchi, roasted Brussels sprouts, and Gary’s stuffed mushroom. Plus tiramisu for dessert It was a Thursday night, so not too many people. All the food was absolutely delicious. We sat by the counter so we could see the chef/ owner (I think?) Henry cooking. Brussels sprouts – amazing. Would definitely get again. Easily one of the best Brussels sprout dish I’ve ever had. Gambas Al Ajillo – basically shrimp in tomato sauce with lots of garlic!!! And onions. I love shrimp and the sauce was bomb Gorgonzola gnocchi – I personally recently started liking cheese so I couldn’t handle the Gorgonzola part as much, but I still enjoyed it. Was yummy, but probably would not get again, says my boyfriend who loves cheese and gnocchi. Gary’s stuffed mushroom – was recommended to us by the server, over the pizette Margherita. 4 small mushrooms but thoroughly enjoyed them. Nothing too amazing but good and prob somewhat healthy Mussels & clams – THE SAUCE. And the bread. THE COMBINATION. Absolutely amazing. Dip the ciabatta bread in the sauce and… wow. We even got extra bread on the side ($3, comes with 2 pieces of bread) Tiramisu was good. The chocolate sauce was a bit too much on the sweet side I would say. Wines: We got the Alberino (crisp and fruity) and the Chianti, both good wines. They have a much wider Variety of wines than the ones in the pictures got 3 glasses of wine between the 2 of us and came out to be $50 each with a generous tip. Definitely worth it. Next time we want to try the calamari, truffle fries, and some main dishes… We will be back soon, Henry!

Koshi Sushi & Bistro – Menu with Prices – 201 W 21st St suite 9, Norfolk

This restaurant has lived up to the hype. I ordered the miso soup with extra scallions and it was the best I’ve ever had. Plenty of seaweed. I was then served the seaweed salad. They put a lot of effort in their presentation. Next to the seaweed there were white crunchy noodles with a lemon slice and two crab sticks. The seaweed had a generous portion of sesame seeds on top. I devoured it. My third item was the citrus garlic steamed edamame. It was appetizing and interesting. My tuna carpaccio was soon brought to the table. Six pieces of fresh peppered tuna in ponzu sauce and sliced green apples on top sprinkled with scallions. Very fresh. My entree was the Spicy Ninja Scallop roll. Spicy tuna with shrimp tempura with avocado on top with a slices of seared scallops. It was then topped with eel sauce. I didn’t know sushi could be this good? For a beverage I had beer. A dry Japanese beer that I took a picture of and a Kirin. I enjoyed the Kirin the most. I strongly suggest checking out this bistro! I asked when the fish comes in and they remarked three times a week. You can walk in and not smell anything.

The Urban Deli – Menu with Prices – 7111 S Virginia St Ste A5, Reno

If I could give zero stars, I would. The food was bad and the service was worse. I ordered the Cobb salad – I expected fresh greens, tomatoes, avacados, chicken, corn, etc. I got old bagged lettuce (they said they opened the bag this morning) – it was large (too large to eat) chunks of wilted romaine lettuce with dark green and brown spots – this was not even close to being fresh. The tomatoes were mealy, the avacados were brown, the chicken (tasted like ham) is cubed deli meat I could get at my local grocery, and the pre-cooked bacon was, well…pre-cooked. I figure at this point, the corn was out of a can. In no way was this a “fresh” salad. I did, however, get a nifty plastic fork reminiscent of my elementary school days – i.e., it’s a useless piece of plastic made to resemble a fork. My friend got a tuna sandwich which had a dab of tuna salad. A young man came out and asked how our food was, we told him the truth. He explained that the tuna sandwich was supposed to have 4 oz of tuna salad, and after checking in the back, acknowledged that they didn’t give my friend enough tuna salad. She was offered 2 “coupons” for a free soda with purchase of another meal at another time. So, I figure that’s about $20 for a sandwich and a half and a soda. Such a deal…..for them. He asked me if I’d like a sandwich instead. I said no, I didn’t want a sandwich and I didn’t want the salad. He took it and went to the back. Several minutes later, a woman came out and informed me that she “made” me a new salad with all fresh ingredients. She stated that she opened a new bag of lettuce, cut up some new tomatoes, cut up some chicken, cut up some avacados, gave me fresh corn….so now the salad was fresh. She asked me why I didn’t like the salad. I told her I didn’t like it because nothing on it was fresh. She argued that I didn’t like it for other reasons. A Cobb salad is a Cobb salad – the flavors are fine, it was the freshness (or lack thereof) of this one. She insisted she had new “fresh” ingredients in the salad she prepared for me. I told her I didn’t want it as I wasn’t confident it would be edible. She again argued with me about why I didn’t like her salad. I couldn’t get her to understand that the lack of freshness was the problem (and at this point, her attitude). Cutting up a “new” bag of lettuce isn’t fresh. When talking about the avocado, she got very defensive and told me that avacados get brown, but they’re still good and you can eat them. Yeah, they get brown when they sit in your refrigerator cut up waiting for someone to order a fresh salad…sheesh. I was also offered 2 “coupons” for a free soda with purchase of another meal at another time. Um….no thank you. We left those generous coupons on the table. Total waste of money and time – I’m out about $11 and no lunch! I suggest if you want a sandwich or salad, you should go elsewhere – this is just store-bought ingredients, cut up and put in a container. This was the first response by the owner via messaging and not as a response for Yelp viewers to review: Mrs. R. Hi S.G, We truly tried everything to make you happy and it seemed like you simply didn’t want a salad. When you said you felt the first one wasn’t fresh, I personally made a FRESH salad to ensure you were happy. However, when I brought it out to you, you said you didn’t want the salad. I didn’t charge you for remade salad hoping it would make things better. I’m sorry, you didn’t have a better experience. Hopefully, you will give us another try. Maybe next time try one of our delicious sandwiches instead. My response to that: 8/9/2019, 1:53 PM I DID want a salad. The pre-made one you gave me WASN’T fresh. You then personally assembled a 2nd salad. You didn’t charge me for the 2nd salad,

Europa Bistro – Menu with Prices – 2515 N Proctor St, Tacoma

What a delightful neighborhood Italian restaurant! What a find in Tacoma’s Proctor district! Two words come to mind: HOME-MADE and FRESH. The menu is just right, not too extensive, not too small. A good variety of Italian favorites. I have eaten here at least ten times and I always leave happy and looking forward to my next visit. Be sure to get a House Salad. All the ingredients are fresh. The lettuce is always perfect and sweet. The freshly baked bread and infused olive oil are an excellent yummy match to the salad. Every choice I have made from the entree list has been just right. My favorites are the Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti and Meatballs and their Lasagne. After your excellent and well-priced meal, be sure to treat yourself to a generously portioned piece of their home-made Coconut Cake! If you’re in the need for a great Italian dinner at a nice price, Europa Bistro is a cozy place that will leave you feeling great. On my way out the door, I always say to Chef Alfredo, “Tutto delizioso” (Everything was delicious!)

Famous Toastery – Keagy Village – Menu with Prices – 5010 Keagy Rd E200, Roanoke

We loved this place. The setting us very modern and they have a patio with umbrellas which is lovely on a warm afternoon. We ordered mac and cheese which was exceptional. Also the shrimp and grits were some of the best I have ever eaten. For dessert we had the banana pudding. It was made to order so the cookies were still crunchy. The custard was really good but I think it was a bit runny. There are a few reasons for this, it could be on the old side, the eggs might not have been fresh or it could have gone without proper refrigeration. I would recommend any of these corrections, even the possibility of trying duck eggs for custard which I feel makes superior custard. The coffee was very good served hot, fresh and strong. I wish I would have asked what beans they used. We were passing through the area so not very likely we will be back but if we lived in the area this would be my go to place. The service and food were both top notch.

White Lotus Farms Menu with Prices 7217 W Liberty Rd, Ann Arbor

These croissants are worth the hype. While I haven’t been to the farm itself yet, I’ve visited their stand at the Ann Arbor farmer’s market on Wednesdays and Fridays and also purchased their products at Argus Farm Stop (Tuesdays), and the baked goods I’ve tried were all delicious. The croissants are very good, by far the best I’ve had in Ann Arbor (yes they are better than Zingerman’s). I especially recommend the plain croissant ($3) and the seasonal croissant ($4), which changes monthly. The chocolate croissant ($3.50) didn’t have as nice of a texture as the plain croissant I tried, but it was still the best chocolate croissant I’ve had in the area. The almond croissant ($3.50) is also good but not great – the filling is more moist and sweet, but the croissant portion is a bit dry and the texture isn’t my favorite. For reference my personal ranking of almond croissants is: 1. Crust, 2. White Lotus, 3. Pastry Peddler, 4. Roasting Plant, Golden Wheat (eg at Comet Coffee), and 5. Avalon. The morning bun ($4) is made with croissant dough and is good if you have a very very sweet tooth; for me personally it was too sugary. The bread is also really good. I really love the cranberry walnut but all the ones I’ve tried have been great. At the farmers market they offer samples of bread and cheese (which they’re super friendly and generous with!), so you can try some before committing to an entire loaf. If you don’t mind day olds, Argus Farm Stop sells their leftover bread for half off the next day (Wednesdays). Keep in mind that the bread will become stale after a day or two though.

WaiWai Poke Bar and Café – Mobile – Menu with Prices – 6808 Airport Blvd Suite C, Mobile

Definitely on my list for go-to poke now!! So first off, I want to state that i’m not usually a poke fan. I’ve tried a few poke places from different areas and states and just never found the place that I enjoyed. Although i’ve had decent experiences at other ones, I still decided to try this new poke place that popped up. So they have a build your own bowl option or a list of signature bowls that you can choose from. Even with the signature bowls you can pick whatever base, 5 toppings, and unlimited add-ons with it! What I ordered: “Aloha” [1 scoop marinate salmon,1 scoop marinate tuna, sesame oil, sea salt, cilantro, red onion, and ginger wasabi sauce] with rice base Toppings: edamame, kimchi, seaweed salad, sweet egg, orange tobiko Add-Ons: nori, crispy garlic, light drizzle of eel sauce The marinated salmon and tuna are to die for!! The fish was fresh and the marinade was delicious yet light where you could still enjoy the fish taste. It may not be for everyone, but they do let you sample the fish beforehand to see if you like it! With the aloha, I really liked the combination of the signature bowl. The ginger wasabi sauce wasn’t too strong. The size of the bowl is also very generous with just the 2 scoop protein. And the toppings I chose were good and I felt went well with the bowl – I really loved the kimchi (very flavorful and much better than I would have expected!) Our very friendly poke maker (didn’t catch his name) recommended the italian soda with ice cream sorbet to us -lychee + raspberry; definitely an interesting drink since it has the italian soda. It was sweet, light, and refreshing! tl;dr: Overall the experience was great – great server, great food, great atmosphere. I would definitely go again and will recommend to my other friends. Check the pics out!!
