I went here expecting an amazing dessert because of the reviews. However, I unfortunately have to say that this was all around a horrible experience. First of all, the ordering process was extremely unprofessional and difficult. I could barely understand the person on the phone, and they treated me very rudely when I didn’t know specific baking jargon. I couldn’t get what I wanted explained in a way that made sense, so I went with their recommendation. I got one of their special cakes, the blueberry lemon, assuming it would be delicious. The day to pick up my cake rolled around, and luckily it looked beautiful. That’s why I gave 2 stars instead of one. However, it was weirdly small is diameter but very tall. I took the cake to the restaurant and keep it unrefrigerated, at their recommendation. An hour later when we went to eat it, the cake was extremely dense and didn’t taste good at all. To top it all off, I spent over $50 for a 6″ cake for my partner’s birthday which ended up being nearly inedible. We ended up tossing over half of it, after trying (with no success) to give it away for free. I would warn anyone from ever going here again.

Boise Cakery Menu with Prices 257 E State St, Eagle

Wow. Inside and out. Not only are the cakes absolutely stunning, but they are beyond delicious. Finally a (really) good looking cake that tastes just as good, if not better than what it looks like. Shantelle is truly a cake aficionado. This was my first time ordering a cake from Boise Cakery and now I won’t ever order a cake from anywhere else. I asked for a tall cake for a birthday celebration and I really expected a tall and beautifully iced cake. What I got was a complete showstopper. I was beyond amazed at how beautifully decorated it was and my amazement only continued when I had the first bite. I ordered the Spiked Creme Brûlée and like i said, it was beyond delicious. I can’t recommend Boise Cakery enough. Very reasonably priced for the detail and quality that you get in return. I can’t wait to try more flavors, as of right now I’m already plotting to come up with an excuse to order another cake.

Miss Cue North – Menu with Prices – 216 New Towne Square Dr, Toledo

Been here before, nice place, nice tables, good service. But last night the bartender was rude from the beginning, but just brushed it off and ignored it at first. She gave attitude to most people in my party at different times and even other groups where talking about the rude bartender. She charged for doubles, when he didnt ask for a double pour. He even came back to the table saying he thought he pissed the bartender off by asking for less Sprite since it was in a tall glass. She did ask if we wanted to play by the hour when we were already 10 feet away walking to the table, so we were charged by the hour, when we could have paid an all night fee for more than half the cost. And no discount for ladies night since men played at the table. Just be aware of the underlying charges and attitude.

Deborah’s Specialty Cakes Menu with Prices 197 Holly Hills Ct, Athens

Deborah was very nice and easts enough to work with. The cake I got had a light beige look to it which I did not like. The icing, when at room temperature was very nice, not to sweet, but the cake itself was way to dense and heavy. The top vanilla layer was over cooked and the bottom chocolate layer was good tasting but again not airy/ light at all. The cake was a 10 inch square and supper heavy. It was big, but just too dense. People are little less than half, had to toss the rest because hen next day it was just dry. Only the icing would have been worth saving. Such a shame as I had spent quite a bit and paid in full. It was costly, just very disappointed. Never again, Publix next time…

Six26 – Lounge and Rooftop – Menu with Prices – 128 Christopher Columbus Dr, Jersey City

This bar has a nice welcoming atmosphere but the service is just not there. On the rooftop the bartenders were nice, bit slow. The small bites we ordered took about 40 minutes to come out but she was very apologetic and went back a couple of times to check on it. I understand that there are a lot of working parts to make a restaurant work and it wasn’t her fault so I didnt hold it against her. Then another bartender was tossing around a hand fan and hit my friend in the face but was very apologetic and even gave us a round of shots to make up for it. If this was all that had happened I still would have given it 4 stars. We went down to the basement to cool down and were having a blast until I went to get a drink. The tall white Male bartender with light hair and a long beard in the back bar was violent and nasty. I had waited about 15 minutes to get close enough to the bar to order when I saw a space open up at the end of the bar near the door to get behind the bar. I made my way over there and had to stand in front of the door for maybe 10 seconds while someone was getting around me. The bartender stepped over to the door slammed it in to me several times quickly and said “move bitch” before stepping back into the same spot he was just in. HE DIDNT EVEN NEED TO GO THROUGH THE DOOR HE WAS JUST BEING AN ASS. I actually have a scrape on my hand and bruise on my knee from him hitting me with the edge of the door. When I went to tell my friends some girl overheard and said the same bartender and just been nasty to her and called her a hoe when she tried to get a drink. Slow but apologetic service can be forgiven. You cant always control everything around. However, you can always control your own actions, and physically assaulting a customer is completely unacceptable.

soho Sushi and Teppanyaki – Menu with Prices – 1811 Douglas Blvd a1, Roseville

Walked up to the restaurant and saw a sign that read “No sushi today, sorry for the inconvenience”. We turned around and got back in our car. A lady came out waving at us, apologizing that they didn’t move the sign from lunch, so we went back in. The food portions were generous, but unfortunately didnt taste very good. I ordered the cucumber sunomono, which ended up being cucumber on top of cabbage(?!) in what seemed like watered down vinegar. My entree was no better; the tuna was not fresh, and the crunch topping was stale. The roll itself was a good size, but the pieces were unevenly cut and too large. I had to bite each piece in half in order to eat it. I also ended up leaving half the roll on my plate because I didn’t want to get sick from the bad fish. The two stars are for the wait staff, whom were very attentive and always made sure our drinks were topped off.

Last Resort Grill Menu with Prices 174-184 W Clayton St, Athens

The dining experience started a little rough. We signed up through Yelp to join the cue while digging into town. It said it was going to be a 4 hour wait: 10:17 pm… When we got to town I checked the counter, he said it should only be another hour instead of three. When we finally got sat Ott was 30 minutes past our estimated wait. Needless to say we were a little hangry. I didn’t really want to wait, but friends wanted to. Our party was only 3 people. So beginning, the bar was set extremely high on top of being told this was the best restaurant in town. The food: 5 stars, amazing. We split two appetizers, three entrees, and a desert. The apps we chose were the crab cakes and pork belly. Wow, so much flavor and so delicious. The entrees: flank steak, parchment chicken, and six hour pork. All so good and reach a little different. Not sure I could say which one was best. Finally, the dessert: white chocolate cheesecake. It tasted like a big Oreo cake. So much flavor and so good. The service: Five stars. He was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. Great spot, highly recommend. Defintely would come back if I’m ever in town. Thanks for the great experience!

Island Paradise Jamaican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4435 HardScrabble Rd suite 101, Columbia

I’m not sure why this place has 4.4 stars…. I recently went to a different Jamaican restaurant in town and was thoroughly disappointed so I decided to give this place a try due to a recommendation… it was worse than the previous place I tried. The food was extremely dry, the jerk tasted like BBQ sauce, and the plantains tasted like dried banana chips. I’m a huge fan of Jamaican food and have tried places in Greenville, Atlanta, and Charlotte and realize that everyone has their own way of making these dishes, but I’ve never had a jerk chicken plate taste this bad before. My mother got the oxtails and she was disappointed as well. She said the beef patties were the best thing about her meal and even those tasted like they were frozen and heated up.. Her oxtails taste better than what she got from here.

Meiga Sushi – Menu with Prices – 1379 E Highland Ave, San Bernardino

Had dinner in the middle of the week here at the recommendation of my son. The restaurant was very clean and organized. At first I thought the music was too loud but once we set down at our booth it was perfect. You could have a conversation at your table but not hear other table conversations. Husband ordered seaweed salad, suchimi and an ice tea. I ordered Bentos box with teriyaki chicken, beef, gozas, salad and tempura. Orders arrive very quickly and the waitress was very attentive. The restaurant even gave us a few shrimp tempura for free. Hubby loved his meal and said the fish was very fresh and flavorful. Seaweed salad was tangy and the dressing was tangy. I enjoyed everything except the beef teriyaki (reason for the 4 stars) the beef was tuff and had a lot of grissel, which was a bummer. But the goza, chicken, rice and salad was very good. Their ginger dressing was excellent and I ended up asking for more and poured it over my rice. We ended the meal with free ice cream. Plan to eat there again.

American Brew – Menu with Prices – 3584 E Stratford Rd, Virginia Beach

I wish I had read the reviews about this place before solely relying on their 4 stars. Like many other customers, this place was EXTREMELY slow. We came in and was greeted by the guy behind the counter, but no one told us whether or not we should sit, or order up at the bar. We had to go out of our way and ask. From the time we ordered to the time our food came out took about 45 minutes. 45 MINUTES FOR 2 SANDWICHES AND AN ACAI BOWL!!!!! This place was not busy so I cannot fathom how it could take almost an hour. Although they were good sized, our sandwiches were extremely dry and the bread was over toasted. The chicken in my sandwich may have been over cooked or maybe prepared the day before, but I needed water to wash each bite down. The flavors were there, so I’m not that mad at it. My acai bowl was also extremely disappointing. It was served more like a soup than a smoothie bowl and I can tell they water the acai down with fillers like blueberry and ice. For 9 dollars, I expect pure acai instead of melted ice soup. There were still huge ice chunks in my bowl and they didn’t even add the peanut butter like I had paid extra for. I was just so hungry, I didnt realize until I had gotten home that I had been ripped off ? we also got a couple coffees that were extremly over priced for what they were. The overall restaurant needed to be cleaned. I looked down and it looked like the rug hadn’t been vacuumed in MONTHS. They have games and toys for customers that are very much appreciated, but need to be wiped down as well. Everything we touched was sticky! I really wanted to love this place, but I feel like this was a one and done for me. This restaurant is gentrification at its finest. Overpriced with modern rustic decor. :/

Thirsty Whale Bakery – Menu with Prices – 4149 Fremont Ave N, Minneapolis

Ok so first off, I want to say I have previously not heard of Thirsty Whale nor had I obviously tried it. It was a gamble for me to call and order over the phone. I had a number of issues trying to reach out to a handful of other bakeries by email, through yelp, and messaging their business pages and having any sort of effort in them calling me at all or having long portions of time before I would get a reply. When I tried to get pricing at one they said no one there could give me a quote, so then I had to call another location to try to get the quote there. The couple of quotes I did manage to get were pricy and their delivery fees cost almost as much as the cake which could have been more of a location issue as I do think Thirsty Whale is somewhat close to the restaurant I wanted the cake delivered to. The girl who answered the phone was incredibly kind and helpful, she gave me recommendations, immediately gave me price quotes for both the custom cake and delivery and it ended up being cheaper than one of the cake alone quotes I had gotten! I was able to have my payment processed and a receipt sent to my email in less than 10 minutes. It was incredibly quick, easy, and painless to do with TW. They said they would deliver the cake the day of my partners surprise dinner between 3-6 pm that day, to the restaurant. I had no idea what to expect when I opened the box as I gave them free reign on the design. I only stated I wanted the cake to be a Barca soccer theme and for there to say Happy 30th Birthday Tj somewhere on it. The cake first off was visually stunning. My partner and I absolutely loved it and everyone else did too, they did an amazing job and completely nailed it aesthetically. Now on to the taste! My partner really only likes cream cheese frosting which limits the kind of cake we can get so I went with red velvet, there’s a filling in the cake and option wise the girl on the phone said either cream cheese frosting or cream cheese curd I think? Well I said you choose, and she did the curd. The cake was moist, the frosting wasn’t too heavy or too sweet. Honestly I think I might have to commission them for our future wedding cake once! Thank you Thirsty Whale for helping to make my boyfriends 30th a special and memorable experience!

Bake My Day – Menu with Prices – 1203 E Mason St, Green Bay

I had been recommended to go to Bake My Day through multiple friends, as their presentation and cake quality was respectable for the Green Bay Area. Initially, I contacted the owners and they were nothing but polite, and also went out of their way to allow us to taste the cake flavors, when they usually only do this for wedding cakes only. From there on out, the cake and the process was a disaster. We went in for our cake consultation and spent over an hour with the lady trying to capture every detail of the cake. They were extremely difficult and made it almost impossible to recreate the image, with every detail being an added on fee. We had requested a tiered cake, but would have been outrageously expensive to purchase as there were add on fees for almost everything, from the flavor of the cake, the extra words and details upon the cake, the display, fondant, and more to name. Yes, we have purchased cakes before and are aware that there are some additional fees, but this seemed excessive. We ended up switching our style of the cake, as it was an easier and cheaper, still fairly pricey, option. We had provided photos for the cakes. Upon pick up, the cakes represented nothing of the given pictures and was of poor quality. We had ordered two cakes, neither of which were of expected quality or presentation. The sheet cake that we had purchased was iced in a hideous blue, not resembling the theme or the other blues with the corresponding cake, and the words on the cake were not straight, rather in a zig-zig and crooked. It appeared that the cake was rushed to be finished this morning and there was no effort put into the presentation. For the second cake, it is similar to the provided photo, but does not have the qualities that we had requested. The frosting is speared, the details on top look ridiculous and could have been done better my a high school culinary student, and there are no fondant pieces, which were requested. Additionally, to add onto the day this was a cake for a high school graduation and when picked up the sadness and disapproval from my daughter was evident, with no concern or address to the problem. The customer service was impressive and appreciative at the beginning, but the product is not of good quality and does not meet the needs of the customer. This cake could have been made for a MUCH cheaper price at a chain grocery store with a much better presentation. I would not recommend coming her for anything but a basic cake with little to no detail.
