This was my first trip to Summer Moon. I had heard a lot about it so I finally had come to go in and sit while enjoying a coffee treat. I wish the overall experience had been as enjoyable as the coffee. The props that I can offer this place include great cleanliness and delicious coffee. I ordered an iced mocha moon. It was prepared quickly and was quite tasty. I wouldn’t say that it is any better than Starbucks or the nearby Nerdvana, but it was served up nicely and I enjoyed it. Definitely not “one of a kind” but it was good. I’d certainly order it again if I were to return. My visit was at around 2:00 in the afternoon (on a weekday) and they had run out of many of their listed food items by then. I suppose you have to arrive early in the day if you want choices from the menu. I was a bit taken aback at how the staff behind the counter behaved when I asked about certain items on the menu (i.e., tried to decipher what they actually had in stock), as they didn’t seem interested in helping me find something I’d be happy with as a snack to enjoy with my coffee drink (they had kind of an aloof “take it or leave it” attitude). I ended up with a piece of what was called banana bread but it tasted more like a very dry and crumbly orange/brown colored coffee cake that was heavily coated in sugar. It was super dry and I only wanted about half of that piece as it was a chore to eat after expecting moist banana bread. I asked about it, as it appeared I had not been given banana bread, but the young lady at the counter argued with me. Not just limited to quality of food, the “banana bread” mishap was further complicated by staff confusion. I had to remind two of the staff members that I had ordered a snack (the barista who took my order didn’t tell her colleagues that I also had a food item coming), and it was kind of a “who’s on first” sort of discussion to try to get my food item that I had ordered. It certainly wasn’t the fault of the people actually serving the drink, but it does speak to inefficiency, as I noticed I wasn’t the only one this happened to in the group of customers there at the same time I was. The atmosphere in Summer Moon was upbeat and vibrant. There were tons of people there, but there is very little seating available for the size of a crowd that the place somehow draws. I had to sit on a wooden bench in the window because there were no tables left. Lots of teens and college aged customers made for a loud and extremely social setting. If you are ready to hang with friends and talk, this is a great locale for a meet up (if you can find a seat). But if you need a coffee shop that is a little more serene for bringing a laptop to do some work, bringing a book to read, or otherwise being quiet and low key, this did not seem to be that kind of place at all. Music played overhead and it was pretty cranked up with volume at times. My review is what it is because this is my only experience. In summary, I enjoyed my coffee drink, but wasn’t impressed with much else. I expected better, but got what I described above. It wasn’t terrible, but we don’t have to settle for mediocre in our community, especially when we have so many options to select from. I will surely come back again, as I almost always believe in giving a merchant a second try before writing them off. I hope I see a better reality next time. Maybe this was an unusual day. Maybe I stumbled on the place during an atypical pattern of business. Who knows? Maybe my next visit can result in a much more favorable review.

Sunset BigFoot Java Menu with Prices 1100 E Sunset Dr, Bellingham

YES. I was traveling through and got to my hotel around 9pm and all I wanted was a warm drink and pastry. PERFECT. I used uber eats and ordered a Large Hot Chocolate (IT’S Large no joke) and Banana Bread. By the time I got my order there was a fantastic note on it. So simple yet so kind thanking me for ordering. The banana bread was still moist and warmed in its pastry bag, and the hot coco was absolutely perfect temperature. I know your thinking it’s just banana bread and hot coco, well it was way better. Try it, trust me you won’t regret it at all. Went back by the next morning and got the banana bread and the Mythical Mocha! It was way better than any Frappuccino from a Starbucks. As an out of towner thank you for your kind service and amazing drinks and food! Definitely will be back!

Escape Lounge SMF Terminal B – Menu with Prices – 6900 Airport Blvd Terminal A, Sacramento

This is a review for the Escape in SMF Terminal A, Airside. Finally a lounge at this airport where you can work and escape the noise of the airport. Pros Clean, New, WiFi (but why do you want my email!), but best of all it’s quiet and away from the incessant announcements at the airport. Good working table for stand or sit working. If you drink alcohol then there is plenty included in your entry fee. If you want light snacks there are some. On a good day (but not my day) there is a swiss coffee machine making premium drinks. Large collection of soda pop. Very friendly staff. Cons Not sure it was the day of my visit but they seem short handed and need one more staff on duty. That said – those there were friendly and helpful. I suggest they introduce a greater diversity of snacks – vegetarian choices were poor and presumed you wanted fish or green salad. There was no fruit, nuts or potato chips (most lounges go crazy with stuff like that to fill out the buffet with cheap stuff). The only snack item that was not “lunch” was cookies. At the time of my lunchtime visit there was no bread left. Food generally looked like it had sat around a long time. Restrooms being outside the lounge is a shame but its a small place and they are space constrained so I guess it figures. The “premium” experience is spoiled by the lounge exit for the basics though. On my day of visit the fancy swiss coffee machine refused to make decaf or all of its non-coffee drinks. So I also had to leave the lounge and buy coffee at Peet’s. Bummer – decaf espresso and a banana was all I wanted and they had neither! Based on the comments from others this coffee machine needs attention and the staff trained on it! Fundamentally if you regularly use airport paid or premium lounges, you’ll find this one lacking. But not because of the staff – what there was of them was great – they need more of them – frankly more of just about everything – to be worth the door price. Summary Expensive if you pay the door price. The half price Groupon made it OK – it worked out to $6 an hour for me. If you would drink a couple of Peet’s-like drinks (and the machine works) or wine or beers while waiting at the airport then you could get money’s worth. Getting a soup and salad lunch was a bonus – but would have loved some bread. If I was stuck at SMF for more than four hours I … probably … would buy the groupon and use this lounge. Less than that, or if I was feeling slightly frugal, I might just use a restaurant in airside to work and snack and spend less.

Dark Moon Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 11041 S Eastern Ave #115, Henderson

Order: Pour Over Price: $6.50 Positives: One of the best pour overs I’ve ever had, the baristas are INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and happy to share the process with you Negatives: Still really wish I could get an iced pour over out here but it doesn’t detract from the amazingness that is Dark Moon tldr: Dark Moon is an incredible coffee shop and the best we visited in the larger Vegas area. Their beans are impeccably roasted, their staff is insanely knowledgeable and more than willing to help, they have a variety of very unique drinks, and their seating is fantastic for working. Short of not making iced pour overs I think Dark Moon is practically perfect. Thoughts: Still day 2 (though we came back on day 3 twice), and stop number 8 on our coffee, food, and desert tour. Dark Moon was our post lunch coffee stop and blew us away. We’d already been to several great coffee shops but Dark Moon took it to a whole new level. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, walking us through the process and tasting notes for several of the beans, explaining their favorites and why they were their favorites. Later, while we were sitting and getting some work done, we even overhead one of the barista’s walking a group of people through their entire process of brewing a pour over as he did it. I’ve never seen that done at a cafe before, and it didn’t seem like it was a chore for him at all. The staff of Dark Moon seem to genuinely love coffee and want all their customers to love it too (I’m on team love coffee if it isn’t obvious). While on this trip we only tried a pour over, during the course of our visits we had an espresso and tonic, two other pour overs, this insane smoked blueberry magical potion drink, and a cappuccino. The only one that wasn’t some the best coffee I’d ever had was the cappuccino, the espresso was a little dark for my tasted and didn’t have a depth of flavor that I’ve had in some other places. Everything is was ridiculously good, the pour overs all had their own unique, complex flavors, you knew that you were drinking a different cup of coffee each time. The espresso and tonic was a drink I had never tried before and is now one of my new favorites. It’s a crazy mix of tangy bitterness from the tonic and punch from the espresso. It’s honestly a bit hard to describe but it’s an amazing drink that I would highly recommend you try, unless you just don’t like tonic water. The blueberry drink thing was more alchemy that coffee I think. It involved smoking a glass, mint, blueberries, espresso (duh), and some other things I think? While it would never really replace my go to coffee it was an incredibly unique coffee experience. Honestly I think you can really only get this level of greatness at a coffee shop with an intense level of care and commitment to your craft, and Dark Moon drips care and commitment. You feel it when you walk in and talk to the staff, and you taste it in every sip of coffee. Dark Moon isn’t just the best cafe and roaster I visited in Vegas, it’s one of the best coffee shops I have every been to, and I’ve been to a lot. Anyone that can get to Dark Moon should, even if you don’t like coffee, if given the chance they might just change your mind. Dark Moon, you are truly masters of your craft and I applaud your commitment to excellence and care….at least I would if I wasn’t clutching a cup of your delicious coffee.

Derst Baking Company Outlet Menu with Prices 3338 Peach Orchard Rd, Augusta

OK, this is NOT a RESTAURANT so I don’t know why it is listed as a restaurant. It is a BREAD STORE / THRIFT STORE. It is a good store to get discounted breads and other snack items. Great to check out once in a while to stock on snacks for families with multiple children like ours. Also great to visit and stock up on buns and snack itens for church functions, reunions, or vacation Bible school. It is worth the stop once and while. They have great deals on Tuesdays also (0.79 cent items)

Not By Bread Alone – Menu with Prices – 940 Hansen Rd, Green Bay

I stopped in Not By Bread Alone for a quick breakfast while exploring the city on a weekday morning. I was greeted by a super-friendly staff and enticing aromas from the numerous baked goods. I settled upon three items to take with me: a sausage muffin (warmed to have with the coffee I had in the car), a bread pudding muffin (for later) and a loaf of sourdough bread. While waiting on the sausage muffin to be warmed, I was asked if I wanted my load of bread sliced or not. The sausage muffin was unlike anything I had ever tasted before. With a pastry crust which reminded me of a biscuit, I bit into the biscuit and was enticed by a wonderful combination of pastry and sausage. The proportions were perfect–there was enough sausage for every bite of the muffin. A perfect start to a chilly morning in Green Bay. As I completed errands that morning, I paused and had the bread pudding muffin as a pick-me-up snack. I wasn’t sure what to expect from abread pudding muffin, but it tasted like the homemade bread puddings I’ve had in the past. A wonderful treat to get me through until lunch. The sourdough bread reminded me of the bread I fell in love with during a visit to San Francisco many years ago. It tastes great out of the bag or toasted to accompany breakfast at home. I will definitely plan a return visit to Not By Bread Alone whenever I am able!!!

Bread Basket – Menu with Prices – 7804 E Brainerd Rd # D, Chattanooga

The employees are great, but even if they were mean, their baked goods would be too good to miss. Their cakes are not cheap, but they are worth the price. They almost always have samples for you to try.My favorites are the wonderful tasting cinnamon rolls (which are big and have plenty of excellent cinnamon) all the pound cakes, the thumb print cookies and all the other cookies, the whole wheat bread, the cream cheese muffins, the pumpkin bread and pumpkin bars, and the terrific banana nut bread which is huge, moist, and only $7.99. They have many other great cakes and things, as well as small loaves of the pumpkin and banana nut bread. They make gift baskets and ship them too. They have two other locations: Signal Mtn. and Hixson. All have great employees and the same great items. Please note: They close at 2 PM on Saturday. The Trip Advisor review form seems to think this is a restaurant; however, it is a bakery without any place to sit and eat.

The Pub at Laurelwood – Menu with Prices – 2700 Columbia St, Eugene

I’ve gone there twice. The food is very good — lots of brightly colored veggies grace what could be ordinary dishes. The value is excellent. The view of the golf course is lovely. And both times the wait staff have been terrific … BUT the time it takes to place and then get an order is appalling. Our first visit the service time was marginally acceptable, but today it took us nearly 90 minutes to have food set in front of us. The wait staff gave us a 25% discount, which was helpful, but before our food finally arrived one of our party had to resort to eating a banana she had in her purse because her blood sugar had plummeted. So, the upshot is: Don’t go if you’re in a hurry, and bring a backup snack just in case. Also a weirdity: they don’t serve decaf coffee. The caff coffee is fantastic, though, but don’t try to get decaf. They offer tea instead. If it weren’t for the lousy service time I’d give The Pub at Laurelwood 4.5 stars. But service counts significantly, folks. Need to fix that.

Denny’s Ice Cream Stand – Menu with Prices – 929 Parade St, Erie

This was a cute little ice cream stand I went to visit while in Erie for the day. They’ve got lots of different flavors and blue moon and orange sherbet every day! They’ve got some great prices and lots of things to choose from. They also have fried food and other simple snack items for really cheap prices. They carry a special flavor of soft serve and frozen yogurt each day so keep an eye out for something special! The location wasn’t hard to find on the corner of Parade and Tenth and I walked there in about 15 minutes from the center of town by the park. There isn’t a ton of parking here but people seem to come and go pretty quickly so no worries.

Discount Bakery Store – Menu with Prices – Laredo

I’ve been to discount bakeries before, but not one in Denton since Mrs. Baird’s closed down. I didn’t actually know this one was even here as I didn’t find it noticeable from the street in it’s unassuming lot. My husband came home with some wheat hoagie rolls and said he was happy with his sandwiches, so I told him to bring me on his next visit. We checked them out this Saturday and it’s about what you would expect. The bread products have quick expirations. The sell by date is either going to be that day or maybe up to 2-3 days away. They are good for about a week after that. They have tasty cakes, nutrigrain bars, danishes and other snacks. There is a small selection of crackers, chips and soup mixes. They also have the bread buddies, which were useful. Prices range from $0.75 to $2.50. That higher price was for Dave’s Killer Bread. I was excited to see a selection of 3 types and 2 sizes of each. A colleague had raved about this bread and I hadn’t tried it yet, so glad to get a discount on it. Note, this is organic so it doesn’t last as long as the other bread and it’s recommended you put it in the fridge to get the most time out of it. We dealt with two staff members there and the staff is very friendly and helpful and clearly knowledgeable. They also keep their small location very clean and organized. Some of the deals could have been better, mostly with the sweet items, they ranged in the gas station pricing. However, the bread was a great deal and most items were as expected. As far as selection goes, I’ve seen a larger selection, both in variety and chips/snack items, at other discount bakeries. However, this is the only one in town I’m currently aware of and the selection is good enough for most people’s prepackaged needs. We were happy with our purchases and plan to stop in occasionally.

Shabari of Hawaii Inc – Menu with Prices – Honolulu

The banana bread is sooo ono! Moist, delicious with lots of bananas! My husband is very particular about banana bread and loves this one! It’s a keeper!

Hug Life Anti-Dairy Ice Cream n’ Stuff – Menu with Prices – 14241 Euclid St C115, Garden Grove

This place was recommended by my bf sis and I was a bit hesitant at first because usually an ice cream place would have a few vegan selection. But Hug Life had an entire store devoted to vegan. I’m glad I tried this place because you can’t tell that they use almond milk, coconut milk, non-dairy. They brew their own coffee and tea so I sampled Viet coffee and Thai tea. I expected the Viet coffee to be more creamier like ca phe sua da. The Thai tea is decaf and tastes just like Thai tea. Then I went fruity and tried the mango chamoy which is a sorbet. Very good. But my final choice in a small cup 50/50 meaning two scoops in a small cup of banana boy and matcha monsta. Banana boy is exactly like banana bread. The matcha monsta is matcha with oreos. At first, the matcha sample was yummy but when I got the scoop, the oreos was too much and I could no longer taste the matcha. The bf got the mango chamoy drink. I think the guy went crazy with chamoy and tajin. I ended up scooping the mango instead of drinking it through a straw. Don’t forget to check in to get a free topping!

Med Ed Cafe – Menu with Prices – 836 Health Sciences Rd, Irvine

This little cafe is located at the school of medicine in front of the Medical Education Building. Perfect for students, staff, and physicians in the area for a quick snack and a caffeine fix. Starbucks coffee with Starbucks prices, but on occasion you get little drink samples of the new drink or drink of the day! There’s also a variety of snacks to pick up here from chips, veggies, hummus, yogurt to breakfast selections like bagels, donuts, breakfast sandwiches to quick lunch options such as sushi and sandwiches. The lunch items are all similar to what is sold on main campus. Student’s work this cafe and are always friendly and serve your drinks with a smile. There’s also outdoor seating to enjoy your coffee and the cafe itself is cute and clean. A great place to meet someone for a meeting for a study session. Remember to bring your own cup for $0.10 off your drink!
