We checked out Sultanaâ??s Bakery and Cafe on the edge of Brighton and Brookline near the intersection of Comm Ave and Washington St. Itâ??s a very cute and cozy cafe with delicious Turkish coffee, yummy homemade pastries, soups and more. We had a olive pastry that was buttery and dense and flaky and delicious. The baklava was better than most. Gently spiced, more flavorful and not just soaked with honey. We also had a chicken, lemon and rice soup. It was clearly homemade and very tasty. Weâ??ll go back and try more items as each was lovingly made and tasty. You should try it.

Old Mill Pastry & Deli – Menu with Prices – 780 Burnhamthorpe Rd W #12, Mississauga

Hidden gem! I *love* small, indie places like this run by people who care and love what they do. I’d describe Old Mill Pastry as a café / deli / grocery store. The sweet lady behind the counter said she was from Macedonia, part of the Balkans. So their food reflects Eastern European / Middle Eastern influences such as baklava, burek, cabbage rolls, schnitzel, etc. They make and bake everything on-site and this includes the burek (meat & cheese), krempita (custard cake), baklava, breads, buns, and all their foods featured on their hot plate table. Checking out this place for lunch, I grabbed a Cevapi in a bun ($5.50/5 sausages), bean soup ($4, had some kinda meat in it), & a latté ($2.90). Prices were very reasonable, considering the size and quality. The female owner was kind enough to comp my latté, after she found out that it was my first visit. The Cevapi sandwich was more than enough for lunch and I had a coupla spoonfuls of the Bean Soup. Both tasted really good and it’s obviously homemade – not too salted. Latté was amazing! It’s close to where I live, so I’d definitely go back for a caffeinated beverage, pastry, &/or quick meal that’s different from other places in the immediate area. I will be a regular here!

Danish Pastry House – Menu with Prices – 100 City Centre Dr, Mississauga

VEGAN OPTIONS – I’m not sure. Some of the breads may be – you’d have to ask. After getting a cappuccino across the way from this bakery, I was lured in by the copious amounts of samples being offered. And the samples worked! My husband and I both succumbed to the delicious goodness being offered. He got an almond topped pastry and I got one with raspberry. Both were tasty, buttery, flaky, and satisfying. The breads looked really great too, and all the samples that we tried were nice. The staff could be more accommodating though. I requested a certain section of the pastry I wanted, and they wouldn’t cut into a new one, instead insisting on giving me an end piece that I really didn’t want. Otherwise the baked goods were good, and I would come again whenever I’m in the mall.

The Simple Greek – Menu with Prices – 100 N Florida St Suite F-2, Mobile

I had the pleasure of visiting the Simple Greek for the first time with a group of Yelpers, and I can assure you, it is well worth the trip! Angela, the owner, and her mom Diane, will make you feel right at home. The staff is smiling and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about their cuisine. Try the Greek fries, which come topped with melted feta (even if you don’t like feta cheese, this is delicious!) Also, try the Avgolemono soup, which is a delicious blend of chicken, rice and lemon. (Hint- if you get sick and your friends ask if they can bring you anything, request this soup!) The Spanakopita is a savory delight of spinach and feta baked into a light and flaky crust. The Simple Greek is kind of cafeteria style, where you approach the counter, request your desired base (pita or bowl), request your protein (traditional gyro, chicken gyro, grilled steak or grilled chicken), choose your toppings (they all look fresh and delicious so you can’t go wrong), choose your sauce, then top with Greek finishes. I enjoyed the pita topped with grilled chicken, creamy garlic sauce, and the village salad, along with other fresh toppings. Be sure to finish your meal with the baklava, or the cheesecake baklava. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church – Menu with Prices – 313 Tokay Ave, Modesto

This festival wasn’t exactly what we had expected. Someone had suggested it to us since we were new in the area. We envisioned food booths and constant revelry, and lots of elbow-bumping. But when we drove there and found out the location was in a church, we got really confused because it seemed so low-key! So how does it work, I asked. First, you pay your ticket (you save a few bucks if you pre-order). This year, it was $17.99/adult at the door and roughly around $8.50/child. The price includes a full-course meal (Greek salad, entree, coffee and dessert), entry to the pastry sale, the marketplace, the church and the entertainment arena. An usher leads you to your seat where you dine side by side with other guests. The food is brought out to you in succession and it doesn’t let down. The grilled chicken we had was flavorful and juicy. Meanwhile, drinks are offered once you are seated and you pay cash up front. I had Retsina while my husband had Mythos beer. Towards the end of your meal, you’re given a piece of homemade baklava, the most delicious baklava I have ever tasted. When we didn’t get to finish our food, the chicken in particular (we thought the serving size was more than enough), you could ask for take-out boxes. All the volunteers are just wonderful and they all work together so harmoniously. If we didn’t have another appointment that afternoon, we would have stayed to see the church interior and watch the performances. We were told it was worth it and I believe them!

Waltzing Kangaroo – Menu with Prices – 1109 W Elizabeth St, Fort Collins

Went on a Saturday night around 6PM with my wife. The first thing I noticed about this little cafe/bistro was how clean it was, and that it had about 6 to 10 tables. Next I noticed the dessert pastries in the display next to the register. We were greeted with friendly, courteous enthusiasm. The staff of two were very pleasant and accommodating. The meat pies were unique and delicious. The pastry top of those pies were flaky, as good pastry should be. I could describe the food experience in detail, but suffice it to say that it was wonderful. I highly recommend it.

China Palace 2 – Menu with Prices – 3700 S Waverly Rd, Lansing

This location shares a name with China Palace 1 (located on North M.L.K.) but other than the decor, that’s about all it shares. Building is located in a rundown old shopping plaza thats mostly abandoned. The outside and the inside of the building are old and run down looking. Holes in the walls, cracked ceilings, etc. HOWEVER, the food is great. They have nearly if not exactly the same menu as china palace 1 on MLK. But the difference in the cooking is like night and day. The egg rolls and crab rangoons are crispy and fried, very flavorful, and NOT soaked in grease. The other location tends to have everything come out of the fryer with 1 gallon of grease on it. This location actually drains off the excess grease and your left with a perfectly fresh crispy not greasy fried product. All of their fried items follow suit – flavorful, crisp, and not soaked in grease. The food is also very tasty at this restaurant. I obviously haven’t tried everything, but all of the different chicken dishes are very flavorful. The fried rice is delicious and as far as I know doesn’t contain MSG (no tingly tongue) All of the beef dishes have been delicious, as well as the shrimp fried rice. Don’t let the rundown appearance fool you – the food is great. I wouldn’t probably recommend dining in unless your on lunch or something and have no other options. Though I think eating the food in your car would be better : ) Decent prices – for about $25.00 me and my girlfriend eat dinner, lunch the next day, and then a midnight snack.

Kervan Kebab House – Menu with Prices – 1757 Parkview Dr B, Chesapeake

I am pretty sure by now that Yelp believes I have abandoned the quest for reviewing restaurants. The fact is, I have been dining out, but my dining experiences lately just haven’t been that good to report with the exception of a few great meals out of state. My friend/neighbor invited me to this Turkish restaurant today. I have never had Turkish food, so I was very excited to try it. The small private setting was quite casual with a sense of home. The owners were very friendly. The dining area was very clean, cozy and inviting. There is even a market area filled with all sorts of deserts, candies, seasonings and delicious looking food items. I had no idea what to order so I trusted my friend to select something really good since she dined there regularly. We started with a bowl of the red lentil soup. I have had lentil soup and even made it myself. I have never had a bowl of lentil soup this good. The soup was piping hot and seasoned beyond any soup I have ever tasted in a restaurant. I could have eaten the whole pot. In fact, I would go back just for a bowl of that delicious soup! We also got a cheese and spinach filled pastry served with delicious savory yogurt. The pastry was so light and airy, I could have eaten a couple of those. It was served with a wonderful blend of tea in a dainty little cup and mini spoon to stir. It was really quite elegant. Then we got a chicken gyro. The bread was grill charred to a very appealing and appetizing brown. The chicken was packed with flavor. We were so filled, there was no room for dessert, but I’m definitely going back and I’m definitely getting dessert the next time. My friend says they have baklava. I will be trying theirs soon. I saw a couple of guests enjoying the hummus and pita bread. I am definitely trying that the next time along with their delicious looking chicken kabob with rice and salad. In fact, I am seriously considering trying everything on the menu because of how well everything we had was seasoned. I highly encourage you to pay a visit to Kervan’s. I am so glad that I found it. It’s a totally different casual dining experience with great food! – – Great food! Check out their website to view all the delicious dishes they have to offer.

Casserole 2 Go – Menu with Prices – 1208 Laurel St, Columbia

I got a grilled chicken salad for lunch and two medium frozen casseroles for dinner. The salad was really good, ingredients were fresh. Chicken tasty with a homemade vinaigrette dressing…at least I think it’s homemade…didn’t ask. The eggplant parmigiana and sheppard’s pie were awesome! Hubby and kids absolutely loved them! Very flavorful and tasty. I just let the casserole thaw then popped in oven. Voila! A great tasting homemade meal without the work! Thanks Casserole 2 Go! I’ll definitely be back for more! ð??ð???

Persis grill – Menu with Prices – 2288 Tenth Line Rd, Ottawa

After a few recommendations I stopped in for dinner with a friend on a whim. We went into the restaurant to eat and they have a bring your own wine with a $10 corking fee (we didn’t do this but several other tables in the restaurant did). When we sat down a waitress brought us water and a bottle of water for the table, I always love when restaurants do this so you don’t have to bug them for more. Our waiter came up to the table with two broccoli soups, apparently that is the restaurants tradition. After our meal we were told that if you eat in the restaurant you get soup ( rotates between broccoli, carrot or mushroom) and if you are in orleans delivery is free, or you get 5% off when you pick up (delivery/pick up don’t get the free soup). I thought this was an interesting offer and love that I can get free delivery. My friend and I ordered two different chicken kabob plates, I got the Barg. The only difference is the marinade – I wish the menu clearly stated what the marinade was as the restaurant has a lot of gluten and dairy free options but you don’t realize what is what just by looking at the menu. The chicken was delicious! So perfectly cooked that it was still very juicy and flavorful. The rice was also perfectly cooked, very light and fluffy and they have 3 different rice add on options, I didn’t opt in but I think I would try next time. The house salad was delicious. The bread that came was an iranian bread and yummy, almost like a foccaccia bread/pita bread. We decided to split a baklava for dessert and they were two perfect 1″ by 1″ squares. I am used to a crispier/more honey filled baklava but this one was very flavorful and both my friend and I agreed it was delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant – the food was delicious and very well cooked. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and it is so nice to have a healthier option when eating out. Both my friend and I will definitely be back!

Cedar Palace – Menu with Prices – 655 W Armitage Ave, Chicago

My wife and I tried this wonderful Mediterranean restaurant for dinner. Everything was perfect. We had the Dolma for an appetizer. This was the best stuffed grape leaves that I have ever had. We both loved it. I had the dinner combination. This was a meat lovers dream. The beef Shawarma and the chicken Shawarma were very tasty, perfect! My wife had the Mediterranean Sautée. She thought it was fabulous, flavorful food. We had the cabbage salad, also very tasty!! We finished dinner off with the baklava, homemade and wonderful. The staff were warm, friendly, professional. The owner and chef visited all of the tables. Silvana clearly loves her to slight her customers with her family recipes. The Cedar Palace is a five star restaurant!!

La Noisette Sweets Menu with Prices 2701 Eighth St #116, Berkeley

BEST FRENCH BAKERY IN THE EAST BAY! I love this place. I’ve only been here twice but entering the bakery was like entering a small patisserie in France. So many scrumptious items to eat. It was overwhelming. I could’ve eaten pretty much everything that they had. And the things I did get word incredibly good. I highly recommend this place for anyone with a predilection for French bakery. FOOD: well of course they got me to come in because this place features galette des rois which is a special French pastry only made during the month of January. It celebrates the Epiphany or Three Kings Day and it is such a beautiful and delicate tasting delight. The one that they have here is better than almost every one I have ever had. And that includes the ones I have had in France! They have a nice variety of both savory and sweet items, mostly breakfast items. My croque was not hot but nothing a few seconds in the microwave could not fix. We also got a number of other pastries and they were expertly made. If you like French pastries which tend to be a little bit less sweet bunch more flaky in buttery, you’ll really like the selection here. SERVICE: Excellent! The owner is not only talented at baking but is also incredibly nice. So is the staff. They are really helpful especially with trying to figure out what is in each item. If you are unfamiliar with European baking terms or types, they are more than willing to help you find one that will be a good fit for you. Plus it’s just super yummy. It is obvious that they care a lot about their products and want you to enjoy. COST: reasonable. If you are used to paying $.75 for a donut, you might be a little bit shocked. But for this type of pastry, they are reasonable even if the quality was not as good as it is. But since it is so good, I think it’s more than fair to pay the price they ask. On average each pastry cost about four dollars. However some of the fancier ones like the galette des rois cost more. All in all it is a worthwhile investment.

Butterfly Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2725, 212 Laporte Ave, Fort Collins

The Butterfly cafe is a small place near Civi Center park. I tried it for the first time today and all I have to say is “Wow!”. I had the croissant sandwich for breakfast and it was the highest quality from top to bottom, and delicious. The croissant was the best I have ever had in the United States. Buttery, flaky and soft, and the equal of anything I have had in Paris. Unlike other places, they do not skimp on ingredients. The avocado for example…it was actually ripe and instead of hard slices it was freshly smashed so it did not fall off of the sandwich. I am definitely coming here again.
