Okay. This place might not be the fanciest gay bar in the world, but I’ve never had a bad time here. Then again, I usually have a good time when I’m drunk as a skunk. This is a small town gay bar. If you’re looking for fancy & classy, take your ass to a major metropolitan city where the cover is in the double digits & so are the drink prices. The bar is located in downtown Evansville on Main Street, right off the Lloyd Expressway. I’m honestly not sure what was here before the bar but the building is very old. Walking in, you’ll see the front counter to your left. There you’ll get your ID checked & pay the $5 cover charge. The bar has two levels. On the bottom, ground floor level is a large bar, some tables & chairs, a smallish dance area, pool table, & bathrooms. There’s also a door to go outside on the patio. The patio is basically a fenced in area with some tables. Upstairs you’ll find a satellite bar, chairs & tables, bathrooms & drag stage. This upstairs area is lovingly called THE MAGNOLIA ROOM. The drag shows feature different levels of talent. The drag shows here are long in my opinion. I’m used to a 45 minute show. The last one I saw here started at 11:30pm & lasted until 1:45am. The performers really do entertain the crowd. They actually move around & work for the tips. Remember to tip! The drinks at the bar are usually okay. I wouldn’t say amazing but the prices aren’t too high at all. I think depending on who the bartender is, the price can fluctuate. The bar used to allow smoking throughout, but it’s now non-smoking which is nice. I didn’t really mind the smoke but it’s nice to not reek of it when you leave. The building being so old, the bathrooms are a little small & odd. The doors to the stalls are small & I think even one of them upstairs didn’t have a door. I’m glad my bladder isn’t shy when I’m intoxicated. Overall this is a place to experience. It’s not the grandest gay bar but the people who work & entertain here give it their all. It’s nice to see a small town (I know Evansville is 3rd largest in Indiana but you know what I mean) with such a busy gay bar on the weekends.

panaderia San Miguel – Menu with Prices – 2004 Washington Ave, Evansville

Senior Miguel impressed me with his pastries. My husband and I were visiting Evansville for the weekend. We were up late Saturday night and I was looking at a book that was named Evansville something something…It introduces one to the city of Evansville and some of its restaurants…….any ways I was flipping thru it and I ran into Mexican restaurants and other things. I noticed some delicious Mexican pastries and immediately I told my husband that I wanted to go there Sunday morning…. Departing our hotel, we went straight to Panaderia San Miguel a few miles down the road. Nothing fancy about the building, just good freshly baked sweet bread… Mr. Miguel……gracias, you out did yourself. Till next time…I wish I could post pictures here. Look at trip advisory there are some there.

Maidens Brewery – Menu with Prices – 209 N Wabash Ave of Flags, Evansville

I truly don’t even know what to say about this amazing brewery & pub. The atmosphere here is great, it’s a small looking place off Franklin in the heart of Evansville featuring a nice bar, great room upstairs & cute patio space. The workers are all very friendly. The selection of Beer is constantly changing- a while back they even had a beer that was featuring GRIPPOS! The owner of the business even comes out to socialize with the patrons. They sell tasters of the beer for $1 each & crawlers to take home. Three crawlers gives you a free custom koozie to bring home. The crawlers are canned right in front of you at the bar. I highly recommend this place for people of all ages!

Kings Head British Pub – Menu with Prices – 6460 US-1, St. Augustine

There’s a parachute on the ceiling and a bulldog smoking a cigar. All of the chairs and tables are unique, the drafts are flowing, and the nostalgia and history on the walls could have me walking around them for an hour. The atmosphere is fabulous. My wife and I went for lunch and the best part was the food. We had a round of Guiness, some indian curry, a fisherman’s pie, and mushy peas. All of it was fantastic, including the service. This place is one of my new favorite places in St. Augustine. It’s a bit of a hike from town, but worth checking out, especially if like British Pub’s or you have any reason to go to the airport or Palencia. The Kings Head Pub is only a few minutes past the St. Augustine airport. There’s also a great little outdoor patio although it may be a little hot in the summer. I look forward to going back with some friends for a drink sometime after dark. It’s family friendly as well. No smoking inside. I feel ready for my trip to Ireland now. Enjoy!

The Doris Building Menu with Prices 930 Broad St, Augusta

Talk about a downtown building being multi-functional and in a prime location. Just to the left of the Book Tavern, you will find this place. Just standing outside, you realize it has an amazing covered patio area in the front. But looking in through the glass, you see a carpeted area that seats 200+, a stage, and a full sound/light system. There is a foyer on the other side of this large space, inside, that can be entered via the JB White’s building. It has a single restroom for use and a open space for any ideas one may have. This building proves its versatility on a regular basis. It hosts a local church on Sunday’s and occasional during the week, it was the home base for Mahogany Lounge for a number of years, it served as the Troubadour Stage for Arts in the Heart (the only indoor stage I might add), and it is used for trainings, birthday parties, and wedding receptions. With parking provided via the Broad Street medians, there is plenty to choose from. And if you are having an event during the hours New Moon Cafe is open, it is right next door for your convenience. I have been told there are some spaces upstairs that are available for workspace, something to keep in mind as well. Overall, the nostalgia of this historical building has been preserved. The brick walls remain exposed and down the hallway you can even see a old barn door. It is what you would imagine in a downtown building, but with relevant function. *Insider’s Tip -Twice a year the Handmade Fair takes place here. It begins outfront on the patio, goes through the large space, into the foyer, and actually curves around into the JB White’s building beside the Book Tavern. Admission is free so come try to “window shop”, though I am sure you will leave with something in your hand.

Done Right Inn – Menu with Prices – 861 Queen St W, Toronto

This was my second visit to The Done Right Inn and I was just as taken with it as I was on my first visit. Now let’s be clear, right up front, this is no fancy schmancy cocktail bar, this is an old school drinking establishment with an awesome back patio. The room itself is deep and narrow like you would expect on Queen Street West in an old building. Seating is a limited to a few tables and along the bar and then the patio. The back patio is big, pet friendly and features a massive tree that is probably as old as the neighborhood. The tap selection is small but a nice mix of microbrews and old school stand bys. After all do you really need 30 different choices on tap to have a good time? Service on both visits was friendly and effecient. While sitting at the bar attention is quick when you look to need a refill but no one is pushing you to place another order or rushing you out the door. This will definitely be a place I will continue to frequent everytime I am in Toronto.

Rack & Grill Menu with Prices 3481 Old Petersburg Rd, Augusta

Wide area for multiple games of pool to be played without too much distraction. Fairly diverse crowd and the majority of people are jovial with a repertoire of sports, fishing, race cars and pool knowledge which they are eager to share. The tables are discounted until 6pm and you can get yourself a half pitcher with a FROSTY mug of umm(refreshments) also. Highly recommend giving Shock Top a try even if you do not favor citrus libations. You might pass up the pool hall if you blink, but look for a neon sign on the front, left corner of the building or else you will have to U-turn. The pool hall is smoke free, but for the smokers and e-smokers, there is a door at the end of the pool hall that leads to a small patio on the side with a couple of chairs and railing if you need a little assistance or you can step outside the front door about 50 feet. Dealer’s choice. If you are looking for league play then you have found a spot to meet and mingle with amateurs and semi-pros alike. The pool hall also have a few electronic games if you feel lucky with tables and chairs around this area if you just want to hang out and converse. It is a good place for just hanging out and very safe if you are wondering! Their music is played through a TouchTunes jukebox with a decent selection. Bartenders are cool!!

Divicious Deli & Coffee Shop – Menu with Prices – 128 E Main St, Lakeland

Today was our first experience at Divicious and it is tasty. This is a very small deli with an extensive coffee bar. There is room for 8 people at tables inside and a couple of tall chairs at a bar. There are a couple of tables and chairs outside on the patio by the street. \nToday we ordered a Reuben sandwich, a mesquite turkey sandwich with garlic cheddar cheese on Cuban bread pressed and a Turkey Pastami with Swiss on croissant. We tried sides of macaroni salad, pasta salad, regular potato salad and Tri potato salad made with sweet potatoes. All were delicious and the prices are nice too with sandwiches ranging $4.40-$6.99 each and the sides were $1.69 each. They have a small selection of baked items baked in house too. \nYou order at the counter and they deliver to your table. This is a nice place to visit downtown Lakeland.

Beer Thirty – Menu with Prices – 1316 Front St, Toledo

I like to try new places no matter how seedy it looks. Mike P came here and didn’t die and I wanted to play that bowling game. We stayed for two rounds only because to use a credit card you have to spend $10. They had a surprising amount of bottled beverages, bud and bud light on tap. Somewhere in the building someone was smoking. It smelled so heavily of smoke I had a stuffed up nose the rest of the day. It doesn’t seem like a bad place but I can’t do the smoke. 1 star because I didn’t die, 1 star for the cool bowling game. – 3 stars for smoke and sketchy bathrooms. Also I wouldn’t advise lone women to go here. I was the only female. Man after man came through the door. No females. The second review of this place is pretty accurate.

The Backlot – Menu with Prices – 209 10 Ave SW, Calgary

Lemme take you to a gay bar! Lol. Im not usually the type that would go to a gay bar, but I was visiting the city, so I just figured why not! In Calgary, you have like… 2(?) clubs/bars, and from what I’ve gathered, one is a sketchier club. So I decided I would go out on a limb and check out The Backlot. The entryway was a bit sketchy as it was kind of on the side of the building and in a dark alley. The establishment was nice overall, dimly light as most bars are, with quite friendly and welcoming bartenders. Got a drink with a friend and decided to sit in the corner of the patio to chat. People came and left, but it was quiet enough in the corner to carry a conversation without being heard by everyone. They do have an upstairs area that had a performer that night, but we never actually went up to take a look. The only other odd part for me was the open washroom where the urinals were. No door to get to the area, which is quite scary knowing someone could just come up behind and … I would prefer a door that leads into a washroom. A nice quieter bar to grab a drink with a friend(s) that is gay/straight friendly, but not exactly the ‘party’ place. Felt like it was an older crowd that was in attendance and not quite the place for a young man out on the town! Maybe head to that sketchy club? Lol

The Grove Hotel Menu with Prices 245 S Capitol Blvd, Boise

For how highly everyone spoke about this hotel, I’m extremely underwhelmed. From the second o arrived, I was rudely greeted by the valet Austin. I mentioned this to the manager and she said that she’s had to speak to him about this before and she apologized. Not sure why you’d keep an employee who has to be constantly reminded not to talk down to guests. ? Later, I’m in my room with my balcony door open, and all of a sudden, my room smells like cigarette smoke. Someone on a patio nearby was smoking and that area is “non smoking.” Although, in that persons defense, not one single sign on the patio to tell people that smoking is not acceptable there. I called the front desk and they did address the problem rather quickly. But maybe try putting some “no smoking allowed” signs and you can avoid this in the future. Now to the room. I upgraded to one of the “nicest suites on the property,” or so I was told. The room was huge and beautiful. However, whoever designed this place put these rooms directly below the fitness center. So if you like waking up to the sound of weights dropping, or the thumping of someone running on a treadmill, then this is the room for you. However, if you enjoy your peace and quiet like I do, well, then you’re out of luck. Be prepared to wake up at 5-6am every morning to loud bangs! When I brought this up at checkout, the woman at the front desk mentioned that she has heard complaints before. Maybe it’s time to move your gym. People don’t like paying for the “nicest” suite in the hotel, to feel like theyre staying in the middle of a thunderstorm. Who woulda thunk it? the worst part, no restitution was offered. Not a discount, not any extra points, not a drink voucher. I probably would honor have taken it anyway since I probably won’t stay here again, but it would have been nice to offer. Too bad! Thought this would finally be the hotel for me when I come to Boise for work. Looks like the search continues

Hicks Canyon Park – Menu with Prices – 3864 Viewpark Ave, Irvine

Overall a very well maintained and superbly clean park that contains a children’s Playground that is often patrolled by police officers so you feel nice and safe and secure. This park is a no smoking park, many Irvine public places are smoke free environments, to help better our community. This park also contains baseball fields and a soccer field! It has bathrooms!!! Great for when you want to spend a long time at the park with somewhere to use the restroom. They are in a tan-sand colored building. Often times there are baseball games here and the snack concession stand is open. Overall a great park that is well-lit and has a couple of pokestops.

Sharp 9 Gallery – Menu with Prices – 4608 Industry Ln, Durham

A jazz club in a warehouse/industrial building? Believe it – this is a hidden gem offering a mix of music artists hosted in a very unlikely place, but it works. We paid for our tickets online, made the short drive from Chapel Hill, parked right in front for free, and entered the building wondering if we had the right place. The host had our name at the door, and we could see the stage ready for a show. There are about 25 small tables with 3 chairs each – we found a nice spot off to the side with a great view of the performers. We brought a small cooler with a bottle of Chardonnay and some cheese and waited for the show which started right on time. There was also a refreshment stand, but the option to BYOB was nice. And the music was first class. Selfishly I had hoped we could keep this place a secret – but it deserves to be shared! Check out the website for upcoming performances and give it a try.
