UPDATE: It’s been a few months, and this is still an awesome coffee spot. Summer time is almost here, and their cold brew is great–robust flavor, but smooth enough to drink it black if you like that. However, I must say the food is still lacking. Every bakery item I’ve had was dry and too flaky. They only put cream cheese on one side of a bagel, and then make it into a sandwich (which is literally half the amount of cream cheese you need). The biscuit also lacks enough jam or butter, and I found the nut-butter & jam sandwich was served on square, Nature’s Own-looking slices of bread—for $4.50, I expect some 2″ thick, soft, nutty slices. Overall, this is still a favorite spot, but I find myself getting coffee to go, and then grabbing food elsewhere. (It reminds me too much of the saltine cracker challenge from middle school.)

Nana’s Guilty Pleasures – Menu with Prices – 6108 SE Milwaukie Ave, Portland

Oh wow! It was our first visit and I met the owner Kim today, who does the cooking, baking, and all the service too. What a sweetheart, and does she know how to impress hungry customers! Complimentary coffee before we even ordered, and once we did order a cinnamon roll to split (along with two breakfast sandwiches), she told my husband and I to have a seat and enjoy the cinnamon roll – that we would settle the tab once the rest of the food was ready. Uncommonly good and trusting hospitality! Okay, now to the food…divine! Best cinnamon roll I’ve had in Portland! Magnificent homemade cream cheese icing, with the roll freshly warmed and iced for you upon ordering. The roll was baked to perfection, with the cinnamon, butter and sugar caramelizing on the bottom! These cinnamon rolls do not have (or need) raisins or any nuts. The coffee…a nice dark roast that doesn’t taste bitter or burnt. Perfect with a splash or two of cream! The breakfast sandwiches were served on a delicious and soft brioche that held up well to the high quality egg, sausage and cheddar. No sliding around or greasy fingers here. Served with some beautiful strawberries on the side, the sandwich was tasty and satisfying! Lastly, I had eyed the blueberry crumb muffins that were under the cake plate. We got one to go on the way out, and I’m so glad we did. Crisp streusel topping, and a soft cake-like muffin made with sour cream that is not too sweet. Plump blueberries throughout. Delicious! We will be back – a lot. Thanks so much, Kim!

Frosty Korner – Menu with Prices – 1701 S Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Lansing

I’ve been here many times before but I always get the same thing. I get the strawberry shortcake. It’s warm biscuits with sugary strawberries and ice cream. It’s so good. My most recent visit I wanted to try the soft serve. There’s over 25 flavors. Usually an ice cream shop has chocolate and vanilla for soft serve. But here you can choice from butter pecan to peanut butter to black cherry. I got the yellow cake batter soft serve. Yuck!!!! I’ve had this ice cream before at other places and it’s great but not here. I took 2 licks and tossed it.

Custom Cup Coffee – Menu with Prices – 319 E Monroe St, Springfield

Great food! The Vegan options for pastries are nice, a bit pricey for the size of a donut($3.00) and a teacake but tasty ($4.50). Lunch doesn’t start until 11 so if you have a grilled cheese in mind for breakfast forget about it! But you can get a fried egg sandwich with cheese and bacon but not just a grilled cheese. The Vegan taco pot pie is flavorful and hearty, I even loved the vegan sour cream; they should go easier on the onions in the pico. My 1st visit I had a small cup of decaf… I tried it again today, it was decent; I think I’ll stick to my $1.29 cups of coffee at McDonald’s. Over all its a cool little spot expect to spend at least $15 each visit and remember to support small businesses! #shopsmall #vegan #coffee

The Oyster Bar – Menu with Prices – 153 Paredes Line Rd, Brownsville

Great news- the ceviche was awesome. The server was attentive and answered our questions. It’s on the carb selection where things get dicey. The ceviche is served with packaged saltine crackers. Meh. The bread and butter-like spread was not great, could have been warmed more, with real butter. The fish tacos on corn tortillas tasted nice and fresh, but very under-spiced, with no sauce or salsa to out on it. If you have people who don’t like spices or sauces, and you’d like to eat a fabulous ceviche with a fork, this is your place. A coworker ordered shrimp, they had a lot of bread on them. Everyone ate all of their food, but no one really loved it.

Bagelsaurus – Menu with Prices – 1796 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

Getting a Bagelsaurus bagel is no joke. It requires a trip to Porter Square and, on a Saturday, a 30 minute wait outside in the line wrapping down the block. I’d advise you pick up 6 or a dozen and stash in the freezer so you can satisfy that craving without the odyssey. M-F you can call ahead with pre-order, but on weekends, walk-in only. On the weekend, if you’re planning to get a bunch and you’re not picky about variety, you can mostly bypass the wait via the Grab Bags express line: 8am-10am, mixed baker’s dozen of assorted flavors (you don’t get to pick flavors) for $25, option to add spreads ($5/ tub) and/or coffee. No substitutions, no bagel sandwich add-ons. Is a bagel *really* worth all of this? For a Bagelsaurus bagel, yes. My obsession began in the office kitchen: I picked up a bagel as I would any other breakfast food leftover from a meeting. I could tell by the exterior they looked super legit: crispy exterior, lots of bubbles. I toasted it and topped with some of the weird-bits-in-it cream cheese. I took a bite, and my life was forever changed. This was, hands down, the BEST bagel in Boston. How do they do it?! It’s so chewy soft inside, but so crispy eggy perfect outside! Oh, and the cream cheese with weird bits in it? Honey. Rosemary. Cream cheese. Honestly, why isn’t all cream cheese honey rosemary? On a sea salt bagel, this is the pinnacle of perfection. It’s Peak Bagel. Your search is over, but your journey is just beginning.

TeeJay?s Sweet Tooth – Menu with Prices – 8660 Purdue Rd, Indianapolis

We decided to check out TeeJay’s for a Fathers Day treat. I had heard about it, but this our first time and it didn’t disappoint. As a doughnut connoisseur, I had to go with a doughnut sandwich with peanut butter pie ice cream in the middle ….a doughnut, pie, ice cream and peanut butter all in one!! Overall, I would say the doughnut ice crab sandwich is something you have to try at least once, but the peanut pie ice cream was amazing! The rest of family tried cookie sandwiches and the fruity pebbles sandwiches. Two thumbs up by all! The owners appear to be the regular staff, so they are there making sure everyone is taken care of! The process of putting together the sandwiches takes a bit of time, so be patient with them! I would also guess the pace of this will pick up as they were training new staff while we were there. This place is a little out of our area, so it won’t be regular stop, but if you are in the area it’s definitely worth checking out! Cute spot, local owners and great ice cream!

Verrazzanos New York Pizza – Menu with Prices – 1801 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater

Tried this place for the 1st time and I was kinda worried it was noon time and there was nobody inside eating on a sunday ? But I just open my business near by and was looking for place to try . Heritage Tastings – Menu with Prices – 7664 Wooster Pike, Cincinnati

I went to the Heritage Tastings at the cottage this past Sunday with my three daughters. Goes without saying that being out with my three favorite people made the afternoon wonderful. I want to say the service was good. The teas they served were good, but sadly the food was very sub par. The top tear of the tray has 3 orange segments, 3 apple slices and 2 cubes of cheese each. The bottom tier had a mushroom pate on a toasted baguette slice and a phyllo cup with cheese topped with jam. It was ok, but not mouth watering or very tasty as you expect with a tea. The scone brought to us was good, but no clotted cream or jam. Then you had a choice of 3 entrees: crab benedict, bacon mac & cheese, stuffed French toast. Between us we tried them all.. The mac and cheese was a tad dry, the Benedict was over cooked and the French toast was good BUT nothing special. For dessert they gave us a 1 inch tart with a dense chocolate filling (just so-so) All of us took a bite but didn’t take the second. The macaroon served was very good (we all ohhed and ached of it) the mini strawberry cupcake was dry. We were so excited to find a new tea parlor but sadly we won’t be back

Haute Coffee – Menu with Prices – 1 Canal Park, Cambridge

A cute coffee shop away from the hustle and bustle. And they always have treats for you to try! I walked in once before with a friend and also had a pastry sample. This time I came in as a customer ? I enjoyed the deco and vibe and the holiday decorations. The egg sandwich was a bit small, it came on a roll with the thinnest layer of cheese. I thought it was melted butter until I poked at it and noticed it was cooling off and that’s when I noticed a small goo of cheese, when you pull away at it. I added avocado for $1 so in total my bite size sandwich was a bit overpriced at $5.30. My friends grilled cheese was on what seems like sad thinly sliced bread for $7+. I think for the price they could have added thinker bread or a bit more cheese, or even a side of 1/4 cup soup. Just as a compliment to the meal. Drinks- got a mocha latte. I was so impressed by the presentation and I think the team does its job in creating a great vibe and customer satisfaction. However my $5 mocha latte lacked a bit of sweetness and it just tasted like cacao with coffee and milk. I know, that’s what goes into it, duh! But when I walk into a specialty shop I expect to be blown away. I get it, that’s on me. I say, go in for a pastry, enjoy a coffee, relax, enjoy the atmosphere. It really is a nice little shop with a small town feel.

The Baked Bear – Menu with Prices – 1789 N Victory Pl, Burbank

First of all……..cool name. Second-I never knew of this amazing little plaza, filled with good food, hiding behind the other stores. Luckily my gf found it somehow and first thing we try is the baked bear because it felt like a cookie ice cream sandwich type of day…. The workers are super friendly and have good customer service. They let us try samples (many) and all were pretty decent. The “baked bear” ice cream didn’t live up to my expectation so I didn’t order that but it was okay. Just not….life changing. We ordered a sandwich and split it (luckily we didn’t order our own because we were stuffed after one). I like how they let you choose two different cookies for the sandwich. We chose the gooey butter and s’mores cookie. The gooey butter was delicious!! Number one fav. Not as gooey as I thought it would be but still bomb! The s’mores cookie was super good as well. They were both soft and chewy even though they’ve been sitting there for a while. The cookie dough ice cream was pretty good. If I’m going to have a cheat meal and eat some ice cream, I like for it to be super sweet. This was not. It wasn’t bland but wasn’t satisfying. The price was good for the portion. You also get one free topping with the yelp check-in! Not sure if I’d come back but I’d recommend trying the baked bear at least once in your life.

Via Veneto Italian Restaurant Menu with Prices 1309 Shenandoah Rd, Alexandria

Went by myself and was seated fairly promptly and served immediately. I had thin spaghetti in a cream sauce with ham and peas. The entrees come with a small side salad which is simple but fresh. The pasta itself was awash in the cream sauce and I was a bit surprised- but I ended up eating every bit. Peas were not as soft as I personally prefer, but the dish itself was excellent. Bread was warm and came with 3 tabs of butter. And you are provided a dish of grated cheese to dress your entree as you like. If course I had leftovers – even after eating as much as I could. It was s very nice meal and I would highly recommend. Very much a family restaurant and the happiness of the place rubs off on you.

City Scoops – Menu with Prices – 20 S Castillo Dr, St. Augustine

Dude, this place is fantastic. We got three milkshakes here…vanilla, caramel chocolate cheese cake, and brown butter bourbon truffle. All three were superb and use real whipped cream, but man oh man was that brown butter bourbon shake good. It was one of the top five shakes I think I’ve ever had and I love me some shakes. Both of the other shakes were quite tasty as well. The difference maker here is the ice cream which is most definitely top of the line. There is plenty of competition in this neighborhood for sweet treats, but they are making some quality ass milk shakes at this spot. Will be back for more hopefully soon…
