When I was young I was always very involved with different reading programs, both at school and local libraries. My love of reading has carried on through my life.I’m also trying to instill good reading habits in both my children. The way we go through books, CD’s and DVD’s a good library is a must ! The Smoky Hill Library (branch of Arapahoe Library district) happens to be my favorite library in the area. It’s very well laid out, cozy, comfy and has plenty of places to sit down and read in peace and quiet. There was until recently a coffee shop inside. I don’t know if there is plans to add another one or not. Another huge draw for me is their online availability of e-resources. Both ebooks and audiobooks. They have a wonderful selection and with so many new ereaders that are compatible with library books there is no reason not use these ! Don’t forget the easiest function of reserving and renewing your books on their easy to use website ! If you haven’t been there yet… CHECK IT OUT !

Friends Of The Tempe Public Library – Menu with Prices – 3500 S Rural Rd, Tempe

It’s a lovely physical facility with a very large selection of books. I’m enjoying physical books, plus ebooks (wow, download from amazon.com and use Kindle to read), audiobooks, etc. available through their e-sharing library. The checkout/return process is thoroughly modern, as is the way you can put a hold request on a book and be notified via email or by text that the book is available and waiting for you to pick up. Bathroom (men’s) is generally clean, given the fact that a lot of street people come here. Security does frequent walk-throughs around the premises, so the street sharks don’t get an opportunity to be disruptive or use the Library as a crash pad (i.e., sleep place) for the day. It’s generally been very quiet when I’ve visited. There are many interesting activities scheduled, including coloring for grownups. I like the artwork displayed on the walls. I’ve not yet tried the coffee bar, but it always smells alluring and the prices are decent. The Library is easily accessible by Valley Metro route 72 or a Tempe shuttle bus if you take public transit. I’m withholding two stars for the slower-than-molasses WiFi. I thought Mesa Public Library was the worst in the area, with download/upload speeds around 1Mbps [speedtest.net]. At Tempe Public Library, I just got a download speed that struggled to top out at 3 Mbps and upload speed of 0.5 Mbps [speedtest.net]. Simple web pages on news sites take 3-4 minutes to load completely or they time out, embedded videos are mostly unplayable, and you can forget using Spotify or TIDAL. Spotify reports it’s offline (due to abnormally low bandwidth), and the same goes for TIDAL. The lack of serviceable WiFi is a big deal to me, since I have to use it for non-frivolous reasons that require decent bandwidth. No, it’s not my computer. Up your broadband game, TPL! For decent WiFi coverage in a publicly-accessible library in Phoenix, you’ll have to stick with Phoenix Public Library locations (10 Mbps up/down or sometimes, much better) or ASU libraries (guests capped at 10 Mbps up/down but rock solid).

Cracken Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 520 128th St. SW. Ste# A3, Everett

it’s a pretty quiet and small coffee shop but spacious enough with tables inside to sit down at. they have quite a few menu options (more than what i’ve seen at other coffee shops) including your standard latte, americano, drip coffee, etc. and other Cracken specialities! i recommend the caffe mezzo! it’s 1/2 americano + 1/2 latte and is the perfect warmth and flavor – definitely not too sweet which i appreciate. pro: + delicious coffee + variety of drinks and pastries + not too expensive + clean and spacious + nice lighting + quiet ambiance; not too loud or busy con: – location is not the best. not the safest or most interesting area (then again, you’re in middle of everett) if you’re hanging out with your friends or visiting. mainly just the albertson’s, small sno-isle library, and other businesses nearby. overall, i recommend this place if you just want a quiet & bright coffee shop with coffee that’s delicious and not too expensive. i would give this place a 4.5-4.75 star rating! side note: they close @5pm! my friend and i sat down with our coffees and started talking around 2pm. we didn’t realize we had stayed there for 3hrs already but the lady started vacuuming (kind of distracting) and cleaning up and eventually told us she had to close up ?

Momma Goldberg’s Deli – Menu with Prices – 36 Dexter Ave #112, Montgomery

Well we had an Awful Experience. I would of given them no stars but that was not an option. I took a group of kids from my job to a Summer reading program offered by the Library and as a reward for reading the given amount of books they received a certificate for a free kids meal at Momma Gs (great reward huh Especially since the kids have never been there before yay we thought!) The next day I take the same children to the Deli only to get turned down….No where on the certificate does it says you have to purchase something. It simply say accompanied by adult and they refused to honor the certificates which left 9 sad children who felt they where lied to and done wrong instead for being rewarded for a job well done reading. The Guy at the register was very rude had an attitude and in no way tried to come up with a solution. Why sponsor a reading program if your not going to go or your word, thats teaching kids it’s alright to lie and false advertising!

Fullerton Public Library – Menu with Prices – 353 W Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton

Fullerton public library has really impressed me because of the amount of areas they have available for studying. I haven’t had any issues with finding outlets to charge my laptop and noise hasn’t really been a problem in any of my visits. There were maybe a few kids screaming here and there, but nothing headphones couldn’t drown out. I know some of the reviews mentioned homeless people, but honestly I didn’t even realize homeless were sleeping or staying in the library during the day because I usually mind my own business when I come here. In my opinion I don’t see it as a big deal because it’s not they come crowd me at a table when I’m studying. The few I’ve noticed since reading the reviews have always been in individual seating chairs in areas that are out of the way. I don’t think homeless people deserve to be stripped away their right to come to a public library to get some safe and sound sleep before having to find a place to sleep after the library closes. In that sense I think some of the other reviewers should learn to show more compassion about that and have some decency to not take photos of them (I mean, really?). They are already homeless and it’s not like the any seemed to be bothering anyone in the photos that another Yelp user posted. I’m currently a student at CSUF and the library on campus is extremely disruptive and students don’t have any regard towards being quiet. So I choose to make the trip from campus to this library because of how respectful other visitors are in terms of keeping the noise level down around others. It’s difficult to find a library that stays true to the tradition of keeping libraries quiet and peaceful, so I appreciate that I can trust that I’ll be able to come here to get a good study session done. The WiFi is also fast and it’s convenient that they don’t require a library card to login. Basically this place is my go-to for when I need to buckle down and get some studying done without worrying about people eating or talking in the next seat over!!

Shug’s Coffee – Menu with Prices – 1738 E McDowell Rd, Phoenix

I love Palabras! They have a great selection and I can tell it’s well-curated. They have a library also where you can borrow books if you’re not ready to buy. Excellent selection of children’s books. Tons of books in Spanish and English and even some in both with is great for me since I’m learning Spanish. It seems like there’s always some kind of great community event going on. Rosie (the owner) is so sweet and knowledgeable. She’s got a great mission and I’m a lifetime customer now!

Shortwave Coffee – Menu with Prices – 915 Alley A, Columbia

Recently got new management and it’s still my favorite coffee shop in downtown Columbia, but now open for more hours! I find many of the coffees shops in the area to be loud, overcrowded, and with tables that are too small for me to study or do anything except have a single coffee with a friend–Shortwave is the exception. (Fretboard is another exception, it’s just a farther walk from campus.) Shortwave coffee is in a great location, is large and cavernous, has cozy areas (perfect for reading) and well-lit areas (perfect for studying), and has a comfortable quiet hum of conversation or music (perfect for coffee with a friend, reading, or studying!). I’m no coffee connoisseur, but I think it’s great, and so is the tea! The staff is AMAZING; so approachable, helpful, and chill. The manager’s just as great–he’s frequently present and interacts with the customers. I often forget to ask for alternative milks and they’ve been so understanding and it just shows how their quality of customer service! I highly recommend checking this place out–you won’t regret it!

Black Squirrel Books & Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 1073 Bank St, Ottawa

In the era of coffee shops and global knowledge of how to appeal to youth and their desire for uniqueness, it is difficult to stand out. Black Squirrel still manages to do that! It is a coffee shop with a nice selection of teas and coffee, and a ton of interesting books to browse through. While I was enjoying my cup of tea, my dad found a bunch of well priced books he wanted to purchase for a while. The place also hosts a range of events including the monthly experimental/electronic music sessions referred to as Not Normal sessions. I highly admire this effort to promote experimental music and be a bit more than just another coffee shop.

Flint River Coffee Company – Menu with Prices – 1443 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville

My husband and I stopped here a few months back on our way to hike in Winchester. We loved it. The man we seen that night was welcoming and funny, upon learning this was our first visit he offered us his favorites. Weâ??ve been back twice now and each time we try something new. We are never disappointed. The shop has plenty of places to sit but we love the mini library. I thought it was awesome that they suggest book trading and my niece and I spent a good hour rummaging through all the books. The old bibles with their crinkly, well-loved pages, the childrenâ??s books and the vintage toy cars on display….bliss Itâ??s such a cozy and calming space. Itâ??s well worth our 30 minute drive there.

Black & Brew – Menu with Prices – 100 Lake Morton Dr, Lakeland

One of the exciting things about the downtown library is the fact that they have Black & Brew attached to it. I love the fact that I can go to the library and then sit at a sophisticated little cafe and have delicious coffee and something to eat. Black & Brew is set up lovely, upscale and sophisticated in appearance but still very comfortable inside, with a lovely outside patio. As soon as I walked in from the library, I was greeted with friendly smiles. All the young people working here were super friendly and appeared to really enjoy their jobs. I ordered a frozen caramel frappe and couldn’t resist the Avocado Tartine (open faced sandwich with house made guacamole, olive oil and cilantro). Everything was prepared quickly and delivered to me at my table with a smile with real silverware on real plates. Absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The bread was from Born & Bread bakery, so it was extra good, the crust chewy but still almost melt in your mouth soft. At the end, I went to bus my dish like one does at a coffee shop, and found out that they do it for you. Nice. I really, really love this and cannot wait to try something else, next time I go to the library!

South Norfolk Memorial Library – Menu with Prices – 801 Poindexter St, Chesapeake

The library itself is highly functional with exceptional modern day resources. The staff have been helpful and curtious, however a few members of the children resource center team have the tendency to deter parents with children by allowing older children to vicariously prance and frolic especially with the Dell Computers in between the hours of 4-7pm. I recommend, for maximum quiet hours, going from 10am to 3pm, just after shift change and lunch. Also, i do not recommend requesting day passes from librarians in the childrens resource center due to potential risk factors (attitudes that may cause negative responses) and falsely suspended accounts that have credits on them. 4/5 stars.

Bridge Ministries – Menu with Prices – 6019 McPherson Rd Ste. 8, Laredo

This is my go-to place for Christian literature used books. You simply cannot beat their prices anywhere. What they don’t have, they can order for you. They have lots of events for bible study and children’s education. They also sell homeschool books! Last and certainly not least, they have a coffee shop that rivals Starbucks and costs significantly less. You will be truly blessed by visiting here.

College of Menominee Nation – Menu with Prices – 2733 S Ridge Rd, Green Bay

A unique coffee experience. Nestled in the library foyer of the college of Menominee Nation, this little coffee shop is big on flavor and choice. If you’re in the area and need some real coffee, check it out.
