Smoke BBQ Restaurant & Catering is simply terrific! One rainy night recently, I went there with Diane and her cousin, Gary. Everyone waits in line to place their order. The menus are available so that you can choose which offering sounds good to you while you are in line. Smoke only offers one beer, but it’s a good one. It’s called Shiner Bock. It’s a dark beer. I don’t usually like dark beers but this one is very good. Obviously, they should offer a choice of beers to go with their food. I ordered the pulled pork, Diane had the Brisket and Gary had the spare ribs (they were out of Baby Back Ribs). A few different BBQ sauces are available in the rear of the restaurant. The Carolina sauce is quite good as is the Original. The server brings your meal to the table that you select. We decided to eat outside at one of the covered tables. The meat arrives at your table with no sauce. You add your preferred sauce in the quantity and combination that you desire. I really enjoyed the Pulled Pork! It wasn’t fatty. It tasted wonderfully smoky and was very tender and beautiful! Just great! I had the Mac n Cheese and homemade potato chips for sides. The Mac n Cheese was fabulously creamy and cheesy. The chips were great as well, perfectly crisp and just salty enough. Smoke is extremely clean. The staff is very professional and they do their jobs efficiently and quickly. I am anxious to return to Smoke BBQ and try some of the other menu items. I had tastes of Diane’s brisket and Gary’s ribs. They were both outstanding. Good Luck to Smoke BBQ Restaurant & Catering!!!

Big T’s Mill St BBQ Company – Menu with Prices – 242 Mill St, Worcester

We went to Big T’s Mill Street Barbecue for dinner. Bottom line, it was OK. My wife got a pulled chicken slider with roasted veg, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. I wanted to try a little of everything so I ordered their “BBQ Sundae” with brisket, pulled pork and a couple of St. Louis ribs added in. It came with Mac n cheese under the pulled pork and beans and cornbread under the brisket and a side of rice. My lasting impression was that other than the ribs the food was cooked well but no distinct flavor. No hint of smoke. No spice or bark. The mac was cheesy, tasty, and not over cooked. The sauce which was mixed in with the pulled pork made it moist but didn’t add much dimension. The sauce over the brisket was thick and sweet but one-dimensional. The ribs though disappointed, they were cooked well with a good bite, not fall off the bone, but the thing that disappointed was that they clearly reheated them over the grill and while doing so burned them, not charted – burnt – giving them an aftertaste of ashtray. The restaurant itself is gorgeous – really nicely done and a pretty solid bar selection. All in all, out of 5. Good, not to die for, and let down on the ribs but I’d give them another shot hoping the ribs are usually better.

Andrew’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 730 E Guadalupe Rd #101, Tempe

So I used to come here and eat in college and remember it being ALOT better. I used to get the green chili pulled pork fries. Anyways. I went there and ordered one pound of brisket with a mix of lean and fatty, four pork ribs and one hot link. The hot link was the best of the lot. Juicy, crisp and with just the right amount of smoke. The ribs were below average. The bark was thin with little to no spice and there was zero smoke ring. Little flavor and no smoke flavor in the ribs. The bones were super soft and when I bit into the ribs I bit off chunks of the bone which was quite gross. This has never happened to me at any bbq joint. You can see it in the photos. The brisket was a whole other level of bad. Zero smoke ring, the fat was not rendered no flavor and it seemed like it had a lot of bad smoke in it. It looked like it had been cooked earlier and then reheated or boiled in a bag. Really bad. Overall I was really disappointed and it seems like it has gone downhill. Not sure if they changed ownership. I inquired as to the type of smoker they use and it’s a gas powered southern pride smoker where it just blows heat over wood chips. I was not very impressed with a BBQ restaurant using a gas smoker.

Federal Hill Smokehouse – Menu with Prices – 2609 US-19, Erie

This place was pretty great. My family and I arrived shortly after 11 and there was already a line. It seemed like lots of folks were delegates for a large group of people and placing large orders which held up the line somewhat, but the 4 person staff was pumping orders out like pros. Though the line was long it moved relatively quickly as the ridiculously large orders got out of the way. The folks in line waiting around us were friendly and we all had a good laugh at speculating how large the beef ribs could possibly be. Between all of us we tried most of the meats: turkey, smoked sausage (kielbasa), brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The turkey and ribs were a standout for me while my family enjoyed the sauce and brisket. Pulled pork and brisket were tender and juicy, but I think it could have used a bit more salt. The sauce selection was surprisingly lackluster. They had a spicy sauce, a sweet sauce, and a honey mustard sauce. The honey mustard was the table favorite. The other two seemed like bottled sauce that may or may not have been doctored up. If you’re gonna be a smokehouse and not make your own sauce at least be smart enough to source the good stuff from somewhere else! Get the jalapeño poppers for a nice side: they’re bacon wrapped and worth it. The Mac and cheese was nothing to write home about but the pinto beans were delish and made with leftover meat. Definitely a one of a kind spot for Erie from the looks of it!

County Road Provisions – Menu with Prices – 755 State Rd 207, St. Augustine

Just experienced the best barbecue since leaving Texas! I had ribs, pulled pork, sausage and brisket and this man knows how to barbecue. The ribs were my favorite, very meaty and seasoned with salt and pepper. Very little fat in the pulled pork and the brisket as amazing. If you havenâ??t tried this place you need to and donâ??t be thrown off by his trailer, this is very good!

Crossroads Bar and Grill Menu with Prices 1255 Barkley Blvd suite 102, Bellingham

I love Barbecue. Not the kind of barbecue that hides behind sauce. I’m talking about smoky, we don’t need no stinkin’ sauce kind of barbecue. Bellingham is pretty short on that kind of barbecue. So I was excited to try Crossroads. I stopped in and ordered the Combo Plate. You can choose between ribs, brisket or pulled pork for meat and you also get two sides. I think the only way to really tell if a place saying they have BBQ is real is to eat the brisket. I needs to be tender, fatty and smokey. If it comes slathered in sauce it isn’t brisket and they don’t know BBQ. So, of course, I ordered the brisket and for the other I went with ribs. For my two sides I got fries and coleslaw. The brisket was better than and I have had in Bellingham. It was tender with just the right amount of fat. It wasn’t fancied up with sauce. It was just salt, pepper and a long smoke. Perfection. The ribs were a bit tough, maybe another hour on the smoker could have done them some good. The flavor though. It was again better than any in Bellingham. I could discern a nice spice rub and there was just a touch of sauce. I didn’t think I liked sauce but this enhanced the ribs so much. It wasn’t overpowering, it was just right. The portions are good. There was enough food for at least two people. I didn’t share. I will be eating this again tomorrow for lunch. The service was nice. I did have a bit of problem with the order but everyone was more than ready to make it right. I would have given the place all the stars but the sides were a real blah. Frozen fries and standard coleslaw. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t great. I would suggest you try out the barbecue at Crossroads. It’s good.

Fatty Smokes: A Barbecue Joint – Menu with Prices – 328 E Broad St, Richmond

The BBQ scene in Richmond is getting more competitive and unfortunately Fatty Smokes doesn’t offer anything special to bring to the table. I ordered a variety of meats and sides since they claim that they don’t have a specialty and that “everything is delicious” according to our waitress. For their meats, I got their dry rubbed spare ribs, brisket, Texas link sausage, and pulled pork. Before I even took a bite, I could tell that the brisket was dry as were the spare ribs. Their flavors were decent, but they were so texturally disappointing that I couldn’t get past the dryness. The pulled pork was decent with some sauce added to it but again, a bit dry. As for the sides, the potato wedges were crisp and were probably the high point of the meal which isn’t saying much. Their stew was made out of what looked like frozen vegetables and was very basic. The mac and cheese was a bit dry and the sauce had broken when cooked. I couldn’t really tell that it was supposed to be pimento mac and cheese either as I didn’t see any pieces of pimento. We had decided to get dessert when placing our order for everything else and I really wish we had waited because the peach cobbler had WAY too much cinnamon and was bitter because of this. I really liked the decor and overall ambience of this place. Unfortunately, the food did not match and I do not see myself returning as there are other much better places to get your BBQ fix in Richmond.

Cindy Lou’s – Menu with Prices – 3539 Commercial St SE, Salem

TL;DR: Cindy Lou’s is fantastic! Go before 6 so you can get the brisket before they run out! My wife and I got the sliced brisket and the pulled pork combos with mac and cheese. My wife isn’t a huge mac and cheese fan, but absolutely loved this side dish! The brisket was flavorful and the BBQ sauce they have with it is wonderful. We recommend that you use the BBQ sauce liberally on the pulled pork and dip the brisket in the sauce. The meal comes with a slice of cheesy toast, which is a nice addition and doesn’t detract from the rest of the food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from Cindy Lou’s and look forward to visiting again soon. We went just after 6 PM and we got the last serving of sliced brisket, so if that’s what you’re looking for, go early. This is also an awesome spot for a late lunch. It’s also good if your group is interested in a couple different types of foodâ?? since there are other food trucks around with burgers, tacos, Greek gyros, Japanese, etc.

The Shack, BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2309 N Frankford Ave, Lubbock

Was able to grab a quick lunch here before heading back to Austin. I called ahead to ask how busy it was around noon, they said they had a line out the door so we just placed our order over the phone on the way there for dine-in and skipped the line. Within 15-20 minutes we were sitting and eating. Had the ribs, pulled pork, chopped brisket; half a pound each, a full rack of ribs with the loaded potato salad and coleslaw. This was enough food to share among 4 people and hit the spot. My favorite was the brisket in terms of smokiness and fattiness but the flavor of the pork ribs puts it second. The ribs didn’t fall off the bone, unfortunately, but maybe we just had a back rack? Really enjoyed the potato salad, not a fan of coleslaw for the most part in general. And the bbq sauces were fine, extreme isn’t that spicy; I do love spicy food. Overall, a good bbq place in Lubbock with lots of seating, I highly recommend phoning in your orders during busy hours. I would come back to try the sliced brisket and burnt ends next time.

The Bar @ Saucehouse Menu with Prices 820 W Broad St, Athens

I’m not usually a big BBQ person but I do appreciate BBQ once in a (long) while. My workplace ordered some dishes for a work lunch and although we were in the area, Saucehouse wasn’t able to deliver to us because they require a minimum of a 25-person party in order to deliver so my supervisor had to go pick it up. We ordered a variety of dishes (pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, Brunswick stew, mac n’ cheese, baked beans, green bean casserole, potato salad, slaw, peach cobbler) and we also had an assortment of sauces (house, sweet molasses, pork, very hot & sweet, Alabama White/horseradish) but I only tried a few. The beef brisket was on point. It wasn’t overly shredded but the pieces weren’t in big chunks either; it was just the right size for eating and enjoying. The pulled pork was a little dry but it was more enjoyable when paired with a sauce. You really can’t go wrong with green bean casseroles, which I did enjoy, and the mac n’ cheese looked baked, which I didn’t mind but it was a little dry. The ribs were alright; I can honestly say that my friend makes better ribs but maybe it’s a personal preference kind of thing because I like my ribs to be able to fall off the bone. The very hot & sweet was the only sauce I tried but I really liked it. I couldn’t taste anything sweet but there was a tartness to it, and the spice gradually built up as you continued to eat it. I definitely recommend it to all you spicy-lovers out there. My coworkers enjoyed Saucehouse; they like it better than Fox Bros in Atlanta. I liked the beef brisket the best out of everything we ordered. Would I recommend Saucehouse? I don’t know, but I would recommend trying it out despite my review because who knows? Maybe you’ll like it better than I did.

Mission BBQ – Menu with Prices – 3912 Lenox Ave, Charlottesville

This place is a gem. The food is great – and I will get to the details later. I want to start with the staff. It might be the best collection of people I’ve come across while traveling through Virginia. First of all they provided excellent service – but went even beyond that – welcoming us, giving us travel tips and even giving my brother directions on how to get to the restaurant when he got lost! I now travel to Chancellorsville frequently and it is now our regular spot to stop. The food is bomb. I recommend : Spare Ribs – super flavorful, fall off the bone. The sauces on the table add a zing to it. Mac & Cheese – bannnnnngin’. Creamy, cheese without being overwhelmingly heavy. I order some to go on my way home, and drive it back to Rhode Island in food cooler. Drool worthy. Potato Salad – Nice and pretty light. Just the right amount of seasoning and dressing. Salad – if you want something green on the side. Get the garden salad and then meat separately. Sausage is fairly standard but very juice and has a nice snap to it. The jalapeno and cheese sausage was great. Pulled pork and brisket were also awesome. My go to are the spare ribs, pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese and potato salad. Then I pour the NC sauce on it. YUUUUUUMMMMY! Low key eyeing that menu for 10 people for myself ? Restaurant is clean, with cute décor and plenty parking. I wish it had a location open in Providence. Thank you thank you thank you to the staff for always being lovely and welcoming and making amazing food. I will go back 1000 times.

Archers BBQ – Menu with Prices – 4885 N Broadway St, Knoxville

Had heard good things about archers but mostly for their pulled pork, people had said you could find much better ribs but I decided to give the ribs a try as I already have a pulled pork place love. They tasted great and the sauce selection was wonderful, however I was unimpressed by the ribs. The full rack was tender towards the outer edges but tough in the center, and the skin over the rack was very thick and super tough, it pulled off in a single sheet which made the ribs better but I’ve never seen such thick, tough skin on ribs. I’m no smoking expert but it seems like the ribs I got were cooked too quickly with too much heat. Was hoping for a better experience as archers is the closest place to get bbq near my house. Maybe I got a bad batch but I will not be returning and will not be recommending the ribs to anyone.

Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que – Menu with Prices – 3002 W 47th St, Kansas City

I want to start off by saying I have a deep appreciation for barbecue. I’ve been fortunate to have had some incredible barbecue around this country, and unfortunately I’ve had some terrible barbecue around this country. I always get excited when I’m heading to Kansas City, knowing I’m going to be enjoying some great barbecue. I knew my first stop for barbecue on this trip was going to be Joe’s. The first surprising thing about Joe’s is that it’s inside a gas station. But don’t let that deter you. You know you’re at the right place when you see the enormous line out the door, only to find out that the line wraps around once you get inside the door. After spending an hour in line, I finally got to the front. After changing my mind several times, I settled on a full rack of ribs and a side of onion rings. The onion rings were a last-minute decision because everyone around me seemed to have an order and they looked great. There are two things that I’m on the lookout for whenever I order barbecue. Is it covered in sauce and is it served with white bread? I can tell you that the barbecue here was not covered in sauce and it came with two slices of white bread. These ribs were cooked to perfection. There was just the right amount of rub and smoke. The meat hung on to the bones but came off easily enough. It didn’t just fall off the bones. This is important! If the meat just falls off the bone, they’ve been overcooked. They had a nice pink color with a dark outside, and most importantly the taste was incredible. By the way, the staff here is amazing as well. Anthony Bourdain wrote when he listed Joe’s as one of the 13 places to eat at before you die. “People may disagree on who has the best BBQ. Here, the brisket (particularly the burnt ends), pulled pork, and ribs are all of a quality that meet the high standards even of Kansas City natives. It’s the best BBQ in Kansas City, which makes it the best BBQ in the world. The barbecue here is criminally good.” I couldn’t agree more. The ribs here were truly sublime. I will be making another visit to Joe’s before I leave.
