If you are from Bakersfield, you know that we take brunch seriously on Sunday. I rate breakfast spots on three things: (1.) service, (2.) taste and portion size of the food, (3.) libation options. The service was fantastic. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu options. She was prompt and attentive. There was a woman I am assuming was of authority standing in the sever station that stared at everyone dining and was wearing street clothes and flip flops which I thought was odd because she looked very unprofessional. The food was average. I ordered the Irish skillet which came with corned beef and scrambled eggs. It was a bit dry; I recommend getting the eggs over-easy or medium to let the yolk run out all over the dish. The server informed me that it is an option to substitute the eggs. The pancakes were a bit too thick for my liking; lacking the fluffiness that I love when eating pancakes and making them difficult to swallow. The portions were a bit small for what other restaurants in the area have to offer. They have a beer and wine license so Bloody Mary’s are not an option. The mimosas were disappointing. They were served in the traditional champagne flute glass and were a bit expensive for the amount you receive, which I am assuming is a four ounce pour to make room for the orange juice in the 6 ounce glass. There are better specials in other restaurants for mimosas on Sundays offering bottomless options or the additional mimosa half off.

Main Event Knoxville – Menu with Prices – 9081 Kingston Pike, Knoxville

I really do not like posting negative reviews, but feel I should give a heads up for all those going to visit. I went with my husband and 4 kids. We paid for an hour of bowling, which ended in the middle of the 10th frame… with no warning!! Not sure why the computer would not alert you of the diminishing time, but it didn’t. Then, went to eat. We were approached by an employee who told us we could sit anywhere. We sat at a long table. After a few minutes, we were approached by a different employee who informed us that there was no server there and we would have to move…. to 2 small booths, clearly not enough space to fit all 6 of us. A server came over and said she would have to get manager permission for a different table… and told us we could go back to the same table we had just been sitting at. At this point, I tried to order a beer. I had just been to the dmv for a new license with the star on it, and they issued me a paper license. The server said it was policy not to accept paper licenses! I told her I have my other license, but the dmv had put a hole punch in it. After the server spoke with the manager, they would not honor either! Frustrated, we left. Yes, there are a lot of activities for families to do, however the poor service we received ensured that we will not be back, and will let others know about the way we were treated.

J. Christopher’s Menu with Prices 1650 S Lumpkin St, Athens

I came into town and tired to find a place that specializes in breakfast and brunch and cake across this place. It’s set up very homey and I really enjoyed the setting. Their menu is easily to understand and set out very well. I ordered the eggs Christopher and the blueberry pancakes. It was absolutely delicious. But I would definitely substitute the tomatoes for avocado. The eggs Benny were cooked perfectly!! The pancakes were also delicious! I highly reccomend this order. Coffee was good as well. Service was excellent and extremely quick. The only reason I reduced the review by one star was because the food was slightly cold when it got to us. Mind you, the service was so fast, but the food was slightly less than warm which was a surprise. Especially the potatoes that came with the meal, they were colder. I would come here again though, because it was that tasty.

Sams Pub & Lounge – Menu with Prices – 4657 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee

It is a dive bar! It is a cheap beer and wine joint that has poker. This is not something you can compare to a wine bar. Went here because we just wanted a drink. Did not expect absolutely anything. In fact, that is the best way to approach this place. Expect NOTHING, including liquor. Just wine and beer and cheap. If you just want to get out and you are in the fleabag hotel nearby for one night, this dive bar will fill the docket. Cheap, cheap, cheap beer and wine and service was good albeit we were a party of 3 and the only party. Service was great, we had the server to ourselves. She stayed open for us. I did not look at my bar stool which was a good idea. Not sure when the last time they cleaned it. It was a cow hide over a nice wooden stool that also had not been cleaned for some time. Go in have a cold beer and or cheap glass of wine, the 3 dollar bottle wine you get at Walmart and pay I think 2-3 dollars a glass and walk back to the cheap hotel. Bathrooms were about the same as the bar, and there is a poker on some nights. Parking looked easy if you drove. Would come back if we are on that side of town.

Oby Lee Winery Menu with Prices 3000 Washington Blvd, Arlington

This is an excellent spot to grab breakfast, lunch, or even brunch. Every dish includes crepes and are plentiful. I am a huge fan of the Crepes Benedict and the Smoked Salmon Lox and Eggs. The former includes eggs in any way you prefer, Canadian bacon, hollandaise sauce, a side of salad with light dressing, and a crepe. The latter includes eggs and salad as well. The salmon in this dish is made with perfect texture and taste. Additionally, the cream used in this meal is insanely tasty, without sacrificing the flavor of the other ingredients. The sweet crepes are delicious, without being too sweet. They are a great way to end any meal. Oby Lee is also known for wine and coffee, where there’s a variety of each to choose from. When it comes to the coffee, it is fresh and brewed perfectly. You can also buy their different coffees in bags for a decent price; for example around $6 for a 16 oz of flavored coffee. The wine comes from a wine fountain where you can choose from different fill levels such as a tasting level glass, a medium glass, or a large glass of wine. Additionally, the pricing differs depending on the quality of the wine. The wine is controlled well in the fountain, so the taste is always A1. The staff members are respectful and quick to serve. The atmosphere is clean, casual, and plays great music. This is a nice place to enjoy a meal by yourself, or with friends and family.

Pints Alehouse – Menu with Prices – 10111 N Newport Hwy, Spokane

Great experience! Really cool options for beer and wine that can’t be found in any other place in the neighborhood, and for that matter Spokane. Stopped in for an after dinner barrel aged beer type “dessert” and incredibly had 3 different choices on tap!!! It really shows the owners are passionate about the craft beer market and introducing the rest of us to beers we might not get elsewhere. My wife wasn’t in the mood for beer and the owner was gracious enough to put together a few half glass pours of Madeira for her to try, again something that is a new, and as it turns out, enjoyable experience. They have a wide variety of options for both beer and wine drinkers that won’t leave you feeling like you just left the grocery store aisle. This place rocks.

Herb’s Social – Menu with Prices – 6305 N President George Bush Hwy #8101, Garland

We ate Sunday Bruch here today. We were seated by a friendly hostess who sat us on the patio, at our request. At 11:00 AM their were no other diners inside or outside. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the very limited brunch menu. My husband and I ordered the American Breakfast; two pancakes, two eggs over medium, and two strips of bacon. Our friends ordered pancakes only. Here is why I gave this restaurant a one star rating. The eggs were cooked well , well done. But the pancakes were much worse. I’ve never had any that were so dense, dry, and heavy. In fact, when I first saw them on our plates, I thought they were made with cornmeal and flour. Needless to say, not one of us had more than two bites of the pancakes. We did have much discussion among our foursome as to how any cook could so screw up pancakes. As we were leaving an hour later, I noticed there was only one inside booth occupied for dining. However, there was three people drinking at the bar. The lack of diners at noon on a Sunday speaks volumes. Herb needs to monitor the fare his cook is sending out, or there won’t be a Herb’s Social much longer I’m afraid.

lou nashville – Menu with Prices – 1304 McGavock Pk, Nashville

I met two friends for brunch at Lou yesterday, and we all really enjoyed our visit! We had a reservation (I’d recommend this if you don’t want to wait, because Lou is tiny) for 11 and were seated immediately. Lou focuses on brunch and natural wine. (Nashville’s just started to get into the natural wine trend, so in case you haven’t learned about it yet it’s just wine made with minimal chemical and technological intervention; sort of going back to how our great-grandparents’ wine would have been made.) Both of my friends got a glass of their “breakfast wine,” their discounted by-the-glass wine derived from unfinished bottles from the day before ($8). I got a glass of one of their skin-contact (or orange) wines for about $14/glass. The wine selection was great! One of my friends got the chorizo, potato, and egg sandwich with guajillo-cocoa chili paste, preserved lemon aioli, cotija cheese, and lacto fermented hot sauce, which she liked (but it was so much food she took the second half of the sandwich home)! My other friend tried the baked egg cazuela with chorizo, mashed leeks, fermented chili yogurt, potato crust, with side salad and lacto fermented hot sauce. I’ve always seen this dish served in the cazuela/baking dish, but the look of the baked egg cazuela was very modern and tasty-looking. My friend liked her dish as well (especially the fermented chili yogurt served with it). I had the poached eggs and broccolini with mint yogurt, chili oil, chermoula, walnut dukkah, and charred sourdough. This dish is pretty much exactly what I want for breakfast or brunch. The chili oil was spicy, but the mint yogurt was cooling. The eggs were beautifully poached (I’m not a fan of cooked-though yolk, so I notice when eggs are overcooked). I loved the way the broccolini was cooked. And the sourdough (which I think they get locally from Rolf & Daughters/Folk?) was excellent and perfectly charred. The decor is charming (if you ate at the restaurant when it was Fort Louise it looks about the same), and the service was good. They don’t have enough parking, so be prepared to find street parking and walk. My only real complaint is that the restaurant is SO loud that my friends and I (sitting at a small, round table) had a hard time hearing each other! I’m not sure if there’s anything you can do about that (the restaurant is in an old house that is very small), but it did affect our experience a bit (it was the only real complaint we had about our experience). This female-owned restaurant (owned by Mailea Weger of LA’s Gjusta/Gjelina) has a great pastry program (Sasha Piligian from LA’s Sqirl), and it definitely adds something to Nashville’s food scene. A lot of Nashville’s newer restaurants are expansions of restaurants in other cities, but Lou feels fresh and different. And as a person that immediately jumped on the natural wine bandwagon when I learned about it, I’m excited to have a restaurant with a natural wine-focused wine list. Great first experience. Lou’s opening will definitely drag me to East Nashville more often.

Pour Company – Menu with Prices – 136 W Wilshire Ave, Fullerton

I haven’t had an opportunity to come here other than brunch but in Fullerton this is the best outdoor patio you can find and never disappoints in regard to the quality of their food and drinks. I like how Pour has kept it simple with their design, making sure there is ample natural lighting without being blinding. There’s a bar in the patio to make sure that your drinks are never dry and best part is their bottomless mimosas are not pre-mixed if that’s what you so desire. LOVE cause bottomless mimosas which are pre-mixed have never been a good experience for me. Although some of their brunch items may seem underwhelming as it is just the one item with no sides. Trust me that they know how to do that perfect balance in comfort brunch food that looks delicious while not sacrificing any taste. Most recently my husband and I ordered the banana pancakes and the Breakfast Sandwich. Absolutely mind-blowing how amazing they both were. Just think banana foster’s pancakes with just enough sauce dripping off the stack of pancakes but not so much that it becomes soggy. The breakfast sandwich can be made with your choice of sausage or bacon. I chose the sausage but with the other components it was to die for with the perfectly toasted, flaky croissant, the perfect amount of oozing cheese, the eggs perfectly done. After finishing our dishes, my husband and i were stuffed which trust me never happens we eat an insane amount of food. The staff is friendly and nice although when they are really busy sometimes it is harder for them to notice you right away when you need something but overall they’re service is great over the few times I’ve been here. Our go-to spot for brunch in Downtown Fullerton.

Tokyo Bangkok Menu with Prices 4959 Pan American, West Freeway NE ste B, Albuquerque

Will Never Go Back! I was excited to try this place as it’s been on my “list” for quite awhile. Well, finally the eve of 11/18/19 we decided to try it. Lets start with the experience. First of all, don’t come to this place thinking your going to have a glass of wine or a beer this will not happen and our server Jenny said it most likely never will even though they have the glass ware hanging. The restaurant was empty except for a man sitting at the Sushi bar where we sat also. (reason being thinking I was going to be having a glass of wine with my meal). For some reason the Waitresses were so infatuated with him they could not keep their hands off of him so it was very unprofessional having them flirting and giggling and playing “grab as..” with him. Hind sight, we just should of moved or left the restaurant then. They really need to conduct themselves professionally or go into a “back room” and do what ever just not in front of paying customers. In the restaurants web site they indicate they have a “relaxing atmosphere” this was not the case in my experience. Food, I had the cold noodle salad “Yum Woon Zen” and the noodles were overcooked and stuck together in a large clump. I had asked for the chili dressing on the side as it’s so salty and in past experience restaurants tend to drown the salad in this. The dressing tasted like a stale powder, it was horrible. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this dish. My Husband had the Pad Thai and it was absolutely tasteless. So, I was hoping if the experience was not good here possibly the food would make up for it. Nope not at all. In conclusion, there are quite a bit of choices for Sushi/Japanese Cuisine in ABQ with a better over all experience with food and ambiance with out wasting your evening or money!

Grain to Glass – Menu with Prices – 5921 N 23rd St, McAllen

I recently visited GTG for the first time since the reopen after the fire. Honestly it was disappointing. Things looked mostly the same as before. But there were several issues. First, it was uncomfortably cold inside. And since people outside were smoking that wasn’t an option. Second, the music was so loud that my wife and I couldn’t even talk to each other. Third, the service was terrible. It took almost 10 minutes for a server to even talk to us. And it was going to be closer to 20 before we could make an order. We came for the May the 4th event, which basically was just a regular day except that they offered a special glass you could purchase for $10 plus the price of the beer, making it $16-$20 for a beer in a souvenir glass. That’s it. The whole event. Pay too much to take home a glass. So the event was very disappointing. If you want a souvenir glass just go on a Wednesday pint night and you get the glass for free. (I have a cabinet full). Basically after almost twenty minutes of no service we decided to leave and go to whataburger where we had a delicious burger (in a matter of minutes) and could hear each other to talk. GTG needs to get their act together.

Castaway Bar and Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 3293 W 4th Ave, Vancouver

Once again this location has changed names, and The Blenheim is now Castaway. Totally didn’t know what to expect, but for the most part the experience was pleasant. The interior is the same as it was when it was Displace and The Blenheim, with the wood tables, black booths and white walls. Small changes in decorations, like little mirrors that are supposed to be boat windows??? Otherwise, it’s pretty much just a different name and menu. The menu seems to be Mexican/Caribbean inspired, with things like Nachos, Burritos, Fajitas ect. The food was my favorite part of the experience, with huge portions for both the nachos and fajitas. Prices seem a little expensive, but honestly with the portions it’s quite fair. Loss of stars come from the service and the drinks. The drinks are a rip off! A classic margarita; 1 ounce, and I dunno how you even make a 1 ounce margarita for $7.50, or 2 ounce for $10. Naturally, I ordered a 2 ounce (if you read my reviews you know I like to taste what I am paying for). My 2 ounce margarita tasted like a 1/2 ounce margarita. I actually thought they messed up the order because my bf ordered a single rum and coke and his you could actually taste the alcohol; the server was certain mine was a double lmao!! Also, service was initially fast, and then died down… We ordered guacamole which was completely forgotten and when our fajitas were delivered the server dropped the sour cream and it went flying all over the floor. I saw at least 5 people walk through it before they cleaned it up. OMG Lol. Oh, and they didn’t even pick up the sour cream container it was left under another table (I shoulda said something but….). I was impressed by how well our left overs were packed up. All in all, I would go back, but I think I would go during happy hour and kick it on the patio (hello spring). Just watch out for flying sour cream and remember the nachos is enough for two people as a meal (freaking massive).

Old Town Spring Tasting Room – Menu with Prices – 206 Main St, Spring

Texas wine? Yes, please! This was my first time here. My co-worker friend recommended it to me after we had tea and walked around a few shops at Old Town Spring. You can sit inside or on the porch. They were doing free wine tastings. The lady hosting the tastings was friendly and knowledgeable. We settled on a bottle of the cherry flavored wine over the other 2 options. It was delicious. Apparently, it’s also a healthy option with antioxidants and helps you sleep. Perfect! Reminded me of Lindeman’s Kriek, which is also cherry. We decided to get a bottle to share for $28 and sit on the porch. One glass is $8. One of the employees opened it up for us, got us two glasses, and set it up on one of the porch tables. Today was a hot day, but there is a fan, and the shade made it bearable to sit outside. After a while, he asked if our wine was still cool enough. He brought us a bucket of ice to chill it in. Nice touch! They serve a variety of beer and wine, but no rosé. Had to ask! Haha. Their wines come from a winery near Aransas Pass. Might have to take a trip out there some day!
