Once is a while you have to take one for the Team or in this case to please the wife, she’s been asking me to come here because OH you have to try this salad! “Disclaimer” this review and Stars is based off my wife… Entrees come with… Cabbage salad https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skafs-lebanese-cuisine-glendale?select=L7ZWB-Ft-iQdRe8QpN2vmA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg sorry I don’t know its specific name but it was pretty good, I don’t even know how to describe it as I don’t know what the dressing is/was. They also give you Hummus https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skafs-lebanese-cuisine-glendale?select=4pqxwFDhoh0ABYhuohcAjA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg and Pita Bread https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skafs-lebanese-cuisine-glendale?select=7-wjHyZGybzDgJNrnZEIFg&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg both were good. Maquina Taco – Menu with Prices – 1274 N Lake Ave #1, Pasadena

La Maquina esta Quebrada…………. I was actually headed next door to Bonnie B’s when I noticed Maquina Taco so I thought I’d check it out, bad choice. Don’t be fooled by the pretentious menu of 20+ types of Taco offerings, this is NOT your typical Taqueria, I will compare it to the style of Guisados or CaCao but unfortunately the food is not even in the same league. Tacos at Maquina range from $2.50 to $9.00 per taco, and Bowls or Burritos range from $7.00 to $19.00 Al Pastor y Carne Asada https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=jfx4GY3miW21CaHbhGh3eA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Chicken+Bacon+Jalapeno y Baja Fish https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=xI4IAS7DAnH4SzWbq7_Omw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Carne Asada ($3.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=3L7ehXGhz_CmUEKlkGlrdQ&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Just let that photo sink in for a minute……………. NO Sear, NO Seasoning, just anemic and bland, nice blue corn tortillas though. 1-Star Al Pastor ($2.50) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=zdzLRtqM128yiyqeBSMLfw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg YELLOW CHEESE does NOT belong on Mexican food….. NO Trompo here, cooked on a flat top so NO charring, Pineapple was canned and only used as garnish. 1.5-Stars Chicken+Bacon+Jalapeno ($4.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=sFvRggGaBRxZ-eegB3OPYA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg The Chicken itself had NO seasoning or flavor, the only saving grace to this taco was the Bacon y Jalapeno 1-Star Baja Fish ($4.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/maquina-taco-pasadena?select=M7k1JDmRjX9ShY7_o4EDFQ&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg While this was the best out of the four tacos it still wasn’t all that good, batter was a bit thick, not sure what that crema was and a couple of chopped tomato’s is not a pico de gallo. 2-Stars You want a proper Baja Style Fish or Shrimp Taco? GO to Tacos Ensenada at less than half the price. Should have stuck with Bonnie B’s……..

La Perlita Cafe – Menu with Prices – 6645 N Figueroa St, Los Angeles

This “Cafe” if that’s what you really want to call it is located inside the Panaderia which I’ve not stepped foot inside in YEARS like pre-yelp long ago, never like their pan dulce, looks like they might have new people but not sure if that just workers or owners. Seems like the Cafe is attempting to put a healthier spin on your typical Breakfast and Lunch or whatever else they sell, not sure the operating hours. Breakfast Burrito – Turkey Bacon ($7.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-perlita-cafe-los-angeles-2?select=B0VPz7TVOlKT22S8UtbM1Q&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Yeah they don’t have real bacon, Booo! Turkey Bacon it is, I didn’t ask what they put inside I assumed everything else would be similar, wrong! yeah I’m not a fan of bell peppers and onions in my eggs….. after seeing it https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-perlita-cafe-los-angeles-2?select=ENdMs_9SmWSHYCDidFYbHA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg I was a bit disappointed but must say tasted pretty good or better than I expected, would have liked a bit more bacon. 3.5-Stars Salsa Verde – https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-perlita-cafe-los-angeles-2?select=W6LERT4fWZj0zhKM-HTQNA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Had great flavor and a little heat to it, my only issue was as you can see from the photo they only filled the small container half full…..that pissed me off. (Minus .5 Star)

Submarine King – Menu with Prices – 261 W Olive Ave, Burbank

They might be KING of menu selection but KING of making Subs they are not! I was fooled again by Yelpers and all these 5 Star ratings; the place was clean and service was friendly but the sandwich I had was about one step up from Subway which I despise. Meatball and Italian Sausage (small) ($7.57) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/submarine-king-burbank-2?select=U3X0NCWQ97FHpZ4GOGaZBQ&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg First off this should be called Meatball and Italian Sausage Bits & Pieces, yeah, I was disappointed they slice up the meatball and sausage, the ONLY reason people do this is to s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t the limited amount of meat they put into the sandwich https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/submarine-king-burbank-2?select=vFBwhYKVSeu_y1XPufV_Vg&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg and the Mozzarella Cheese is shredded too, the bread resembles a French Baguette in diameter but was soft, they did toast it which gave it a nice crunch https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/submarine-king-burbank-2?select=Nwb7_1Ad-NEO_OlQjTO58w&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg the limited amount of Italian sausage I got was pretty good but the meatball pieces seemed to be the frozen type/taste. Maybe they do a deli sandwich better? But I don’t think I’d return to find out.

Glass House Coffee Bar – Menu with Prices – 520 Blair Blvd, Eugene

Wonderful Coffee Stop in Eugene! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/glass-house-coffee-bar-eugene?select=Qmus_BSB0cVUvtqojJ11Fg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w SITREP If I only have time to make one stop in the City of Eugene while blitzing down I-5, then I will jump onto the I-105 exit and make a beeline to Glass House Coffee Bar for some delicious lattes & mochas! As far as baristas go, April is the bees knees and would be a fantastic rep in whatever city she would find herself. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/glass-house-coffee-bar-eugene?select=x4RA9V2txtT-7Wanlc3voQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE COFFEE! The house brew is outstanding. But if I’m on a stretch for a BIT more time (like 30 mins to an hour), I’ll pop for something a bit more extravagant, like the Salted Bourbon Latte – now THAT’S how you kick start your day for a blitz trek all the way back to Sacramento. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/glass-house-coffee-bar-eugene?select=TpRkPfCFlgfNOIVFkb0IJQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE ART! At Ease Brewing Company – Menu with Prices – 1825 I St, Sacramento

“At Ease Brewing” Is A Fantastic Brewery In Midtown! SITREP Or as my colleague and fellow Yelper Tammy P. likes to say, “A Tease Brewing” (It’s all in how you space your letters *cough*) ? Talk about a total win for me: there’s a new brewery only two blocks away from my front door that just went *online* over the 2019 Memorial Day Weekend. THE SETUP “At Ease Brewing” brings a lot of refreshing taste variety to enjoy – from the current menu since Memorial Day: * Buck Sergeant Brown – a Brown Porter (6.1% ABV); https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=YFvzhYoKHN7scvPkn5NTpQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w * Black Hawk – a Black Saison (6.8% ABV); * Top of the Line – a Lemon Coriander Wheat (6.1% ABV); * Full Battle Rattle – a Pale Ale (5.9% ABV) * Army Brat – a Brut IPA (7.5% ABV); * Fog of War – a Hazy IPA (6.4% ABV) Each is refershing in their own way, and I enjoyed a flight with all of them. You can pretty much set up a flight in any ounceage configuration that you like: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=PXMcL5G6XsFARpDv8yUnXw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w In general, the pricing is pretty consistent for all of them: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=hReOMr96oCFjTBfh3Sa1iw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w A. A Pint is $6 (Hazy IPA is $7) B. 8 Ounces is $4 (Hazy IPA is $5) C. 5 Ounces is $3 (Hazy IPA is $4) D. 32-Ounce growler is $10 (Hazy IPA is $12) E. 64-Ounce growler is $16 (Hazy IPA is $18) MY FAVES & GROWLERS Like I said, I enjoyed all of them. But you really put your money where your mouth is when you decide which one you want to put in a growler. “At Ease” has a wonderful contemporary 32-ounce for $30 ($40 incluidng a fill up of your fave brew). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=Hoomes50SC7jsYAt9gn64g&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w But I was also able to recycle a couple other growlers I had sitting on top of the fridge which i used: = For a fill up of the Buck Sergeant ($10); and, https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=rnYl1AEQGFf4fnQSFOGURg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w = For a fill up of the Army Brat ($10). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=AFHGWYz6rKg8pgfQnuuqdg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w I’m set for some wonderful brew tasting the rest of the week now. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=F3aG0_DnsRqERktRPlsdQw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w COOLEST TAKEAWAY: Your growlers get their own dog tags. ? https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/at-ease-brewing-sacramento?select=AFHGWYz6rKg8pgfQnuuqdg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w And speaking of dogs, this brewery is pooch-friendly and has watering stations for them on the back patio. THE LOWDOWN A enjoyable and refreshing Midtown brewery you need to check out!

Yuanbao Jiaozi ???? – Menu with Prices – 2110 Irving St, San Francisco

To be quite honest, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to overlook Yuanbao Jiaozi. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside and the inside doesn’t appear all that interesting either, save for the “fishbowl” where the workers make the dumplings. However, at the risk of even more people finding out about this place, it would be a mistake to write them off! Not when they offer some of the best dumplings and beef noodle soup I’ve come across in the city! While Yuanbao Jiaozi isn’t a hole in the wall joint in the truest sense, it’s definitely got a different feel to it than most other places on Irving. By comparison, the menu is definitely thinner than most. They offer a decent mix of starters alongside a half dozen types of dumplings, but only one noodle dish! Kind of weird, since it wouldn’t be hard to offer more, but that’s only until you try their beef noodle soup and realize it’s all you need! Well, that along with a plate of their dumplings! — NAPA CABBAGE & PORK DUMPLING…$8.99 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yuanbao-jiaozi-san-francisco-2?select=WzcgalufSW9oqMzbT4ENbw) Not too shabby, though more solid than amazing. The skins had just the right thickness and I liked how juicy and flavorful the filling was. I just wish these were plumper, as it seemed like there was a lot of excess skin that could’ve held more meat! — SHIITAKE MUSHROOM & FISH DUMPLING…$8.99 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yuanbao-jiaozi-san-francisco-2?select=VvSCceubC6Ets2pJpW8hbA) I had never tried fish dumplings before, but these were fantastic! The skins were just as soft and tender, but the taste of these was far better – perfectly balanced between mushrooms and fish. Would get this again in a heartbeat! — HOUSE SPECIAL BEEF NOODLE SOUP…$10.99 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yuanbao-jiaozi-san-francisco-2?select=QDuRnhRmluOFAg8wDLm5tQ) Not sure how this compares to legit beef noodle soups in Taiwan, but this is one of the best I’ve had around here. The noodles had a nice bite to them, the cubes of beef were tender, and the broth was super rich and flavorful (even despite getting the mild version). Beyond how tasty the food was, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service (the workers are all friendly and responsive), as well as the prices. Maybe it’s just a sign of the times, but $11 for a generous bowl of noodles felt very reasonable. Tack on a dozen dumplings for $9 and you’re talking about a lot of good food for just $20! Even despite how King of Noodles (another personal favorite) and their awesome noodles and dumplings are just four blocks away, Yuanbao Jiaozi has definitely found its way into my rotation of spots for noodle soup!

Burbank Deli & Market – Menu with Prices – 1414 W Alameda Ave, Burbank

The sign out front says Burbank Deli & Market http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/burbank-deli-and-market-los-angeles?select=RaQZvUdmAovM5oFLJua5Kg#RaQZvUdmAovM5oFLJua5Kg but if you ask me it’s more of a Liquor Store than Market! but they do have a Deli section where they make Hot and Cold Sandwiches with a variety of meat and bread choices… I got a Large sandwich ToGo as they have NO tables or chairs inside the market…. Roast Beef (Cold) – http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/burbank-deli-and-market-los-angeles?select=RaQZvUdmAovM5oFLJua5Kg#OawevbgbnaIQp6g06QgVug The meat was pretty good but Boars Head it’s not!, the rest was fairly disappointing, lettuce had no crispness, tomato’s… well see for yourself http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/burbank-deli-and-market-los-angeles?select=RaQZvUdmAovM5oFLJua5Kg#hVNs5YEJvrj5XycDz-YyKg they also put vinegar, who put’s vinegar on roast beef? bread was not fresh and while it was a roll, it’s NOT a french roll like I asked for http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/burbank-deli-and-market-los-angeles?select=RaQZvUdmAovM5oFLJua5Kg#Ifks2zmEdowh0zba26xjfQ That sign on the roof also says they Cater but I sure wouldn’t want them catering my anything!

Little Garden Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2786 Lancaster Rd, Ottawa

Serving an all day breakfast and Lebanese fare, we frequently visit the Little Garden Restaurant for a late breakfast on Saturdays. Their menu accomodates both my love of bacon, and my wife being vegetarian. The food has always been the perfect diner-style breakfast, prepared to our tastes. The Lebanese potatoes served as a side with most breakfast combos add a somewhat unique and enjoyable twist to the classic breakfast. My wife and I have both tried a variety of things from their breakfast menu, and have never been disappointed. In what may bit a bit of an odd combination, the Little Garden Restaurant specializes in both diner-style all-day breakfast and Lebanese cuisine. While we haven’t tried the Lebanese cuisine ourselves, I can note that while we have “breakfast”, we do see a fair amount of traffic from other people ordering their lunch. I do believe the Lebanese cuisine would be just as good as the breakfast menu, and wouldn’t hesitate to order it if I was passing by and hungry for lunch or dinner.

Alma’s Paleteria – Menu with Prices – 1215 E Seminary Dr, Fort Worth

Alma’s popped up a while back on my radar screen, and I was happy to finally get a chance to try this place. My wife and I were heading up 35E, and as the Seminary Dr exit sign appeared, I thought, “Why does that sound familiar?” Well a quick check of the Yelp bookmarks, and Alma’s was there. So we each went for a cone. I went Rum Raisin. I forgot what Thuy had. Both were very good, and homemade. But I think the best part would have been the bars. Some really good sound flavors, including my favorite, mango with chile. Lauren N. has a photo of the flavors – https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/almas-paleteria-fort-worth?select=jNOiqN-gADtl_HMxXm4oTw Prices were very reasonable. Super friendly staff. I regret not getting the guys name who served us. He was very personable. I was surprised to see savory meal options too. If we had not just had lunch, I would have like to try one of the tortas. Bottom line: If you are ever on 35W near Seminary, it a short drive east to Almas’ frozen goodness.

Tacos Los 3 Reyes – Menu with Prices – 1610 Old Bayshore Hwy, San Jose

Closer to 3.5 stars overall, but their corn tortillas are super fresh and one of the best versions I’ve had in the South Bay. Tacos Los Tres Reyes is located in more of an industrial area. They weren’t busy around 1:30pm on Memorial Day. You order at the food truck, and they have covered seating inside, in addition to their salsa bar. I tried their Chorizo, Suadero, Asada, and Pastor Tacos ($2.20/each, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jsF9eCkRQTM2J85n_8rL5w&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg). The suadero and asada were my favorites, since they were the most flavorful and seared well. I liked the pineapple in the pastor, but there wasn’t much flavor otherwise. The chorizo was my least favorite- it was spicy, but very dry and crumbly. I would recommend the suadero and asada, but not the chorizo or pastor. However, the corn tortillas were delicious. They were the perfect consistency, and also had good flavor. The salsa bar (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=GElnqnYWRN0mDeUhnXKJvg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg) had a good amount of options. I only tried the orange and green salsas, but I liked both. The majority of tacos and salsas that I tried were spicy, so this isn’t the best place to go if you don’t like spice! For those that like offal, they have a few different options on their menu: buche (stomach), cabeza, and lengua. Pollo and chicharron are also available. I would come back if I was having a taco craving and in the area, and/or for late night eats. However, this is one of the better street taco places in the South Bay that I’ve been to. There was plenty of parking in their lot and also some street parking available.

Al’s Gyros Chicago’s Finest – Menu with Prices – 5932 W Bell Rd, Glendale

I love this place. Really do. Had many dishes on their menu. I cant get enough of the Mediterranean salad with chicken. Its large and plentiful with chicken. So good. My problem is with pick up orders. When I get the salad, I ask for the Greek dressing to be on the side (so it doesnt saturate the lettuce if I were to keep for leftovers, which I do) I was told it always does. That order came with dressing on the side, so when I ordered again I didnt ask, bc… dressing always came on the side for to go orders.. that didn’t happen. I was very disappointed. But since this place is so good and despite me moving and it’s a ways further, I still come here! So I order again and specifically say please put the dressing on side. Ok no problem. I get to pay and notice I dont see the dressing. I’m given one and I go home. Start to eat and noticed the dressing is all on the bottom of the container. So sad! I wont stop coming here, but please stop it LOL! Get it together
